[Ruby makes her way down into the Atlesian sublab ,checking her surroundings for guards . She comes down into a large open room with a single stasis pod on the middle]

Ruby - [takes a deep breath] Ok Ruby, it’s just like Doctor Polendina said . Penny’s birthday ]

[1,2,3,4 keystrokes and….]

[The pod opens]

[Penny Polendina lurches out of the pod, and Ruby catches her , lowering her gently to the ground]

Ruby - Penny are you ok ?

Penny - [waking up] I am fine Friend Ruby

[Ruby stroked her cheek]

Ruby - How did you get here ?

Penny - ….what do you mean

Ruby - Did Ironwood capture you ?

Penny - ….ive always been here

Ruby - What ?

Penny - I have always been here

Ruby - That’s not true , what about Beacon.

Penny - I was there too

Ruby - Penny , that doesn’t make sense

Penny - Does it make you happy ?

Ruby - ???

They take a trip to the (now refurbished) mcd remote sublab. Gyro's here to evaluate some newer specimens that feth has been taking care of/monitoring. most of them are just little planktonic fellas or new species living at the vents, all in neat temporary enclosures in the lab. Gy mostly just listens to fethry's extensive doting rambling on each one while using a little digital recorder.

Nothings been groundbreaking, but gy likes how passionate he gets about his work and is enjoying himself tagging along and listening.

All until they reach a much larger door, and now feth knows he's got gyros interest for sure. He unlocks it, and the doors slide open. They're greeted with a dim room that houses a wide, still pool. At first, Gyro's confused and a little scared of this new dark room, but Fethry confidently strolls inside, kneels by the pool and starts talking to the water as sweet as can be, greeting something until finally, a tentacle pokes up out of the water to say hi.

"He's a little shy, but I've told him all about you and how thrilled you'd be to meet him" Feth says, gesturing gyro over to sit by them. He's gotta admit that fethry knows a lot about his *ahem* tastes, Gyro's wide-eyed and nervous as he sticks a hand out and swallows. The tentacle gently and affectionately coils up his arm and Gyro has to hold back shivering.

Fethry says "oh, he likes you!" excitedly, as a few more tentacles emerge from the surface of the pool. gyro tries to see how deep it is and it's impossible to tell.

What made you ship it?

at it's core, fethsteel is the "grumpy character fell in love with the sunshine character" to a tee, and i'm always a sucker for those kind of ships

i also feel that both fethry and steelbeak were treated poorly in their premiere eps, fethry by his entire family and steelbeak by his own team, so they both have an underdog thing going on that could unite them.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

being with Fethry gives Steelbeak an excuse to be a little softer and vulnerable with someone, while Fethry would feel more confident in himself by finally have someone on his side who doesn't take him for granted or think his interests are pointless or silly

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

not sure if this is unpopular but i don't see fethry "fixing" steelbeak. steelbeak isn't a good guy, and being with fethry wouldn't change that. he still cares about fethry, but steelbeak isn't gonna end up being the newest member of the mcduck family, but that's okay because fethry really isn't either

like we saw in fethry's premiere ep, he's got a little bit of darkness going on too, even if he is a sweetheart over all. but after getting stuck in the sublab for so many years alone, i can imagine fethry wanting to distance himself from the family too

(I love how almost everyone thinks of Fethry's four years at the sublab as unwilling and/or traumatising for him.)

(I think that "four-and-a-half year" part in the episode ("The Depth of Cousin Fethry!" [S02E02]. Bless that episode for my boi's screen debut) is supposed to highlight Fethry's extreme passion in the ocean life, so that he would willingly stay that long underwater just to study something he likes.

But we are all like "Nah fam, you are forced to stay there. You are just coping. You need therapy".)
