Dietary Fibers Market: Fueling Healthy F&B Choices
Tumblr media
Across the globe, constipation is a prevalent medical disorder intricately linked to insufficient fiber consumption. According to the World Gastroenterology Organization, the prevalence of constipation varies across countries, ranging from 2% to 30% in the general population. Beans, broccoli, berries, avocados, popcorn, whole grains, apples, dried fruits, nuts, and so forth are excellent sources of dietary fiber and help GI disorders. Thus, the burgeoning awareness surrounding nutrition and health among individuals and the inclination towards nutraceutical products is pushing the dietary fibers market.
Globally, the dietary fibers market is expected to reach $13421.33 million by 2030, with a CAGR of 8.77% from 2023 to 2030.
Dietary fibers possess natural laxative properties that stimulate and promote the frequency of bowel movements. By regulating the digestive system’s rhythmic functioning and preventing stool stagnation in the colon, these fibers actively alleviate the discomfort of constipation. Including fibers in a diet can effectively support regular bowel movements, ensuring optimal digestive health.
A Spectrum of Product Offerings: Soluble and Insoluble Dietary Fibers
Regarding product categorization, the market is segmented into two distinct subcategories, soluble dietary fibers and insoluble dietary fibers. Soluble fibers in food sources such as apples, bananas, barley, oats, and beans offer exceptional nutritional value. On the other hand, insoluble fibers derived from whole grains, various vegetables, wheat bran, and legumes provide an impeccable foundation for dietary enrichment. Premium food skillfully incorporates soluble and insoluble fibers, achieving a harmonious fusion of nutritional excellence.
In 2022, soluble dietary fibers emerged as the dominant segment, with a remarkable revenue of $3764.84 million. Exceptional properties and wide-ranging applications are the top drivers of the segment.
Soluble dietary fibers dissolve in water, forming a gel-like substance that offers various functional benefits. They find extensive applications across the food and beverage industry, allowing manufacturers to enhance the nutritional profile of their products while improving texture, stability, and overall quality.
Few Notable Examples:
Kerry Group PLC offers Emulgold Fibre, a soluble dietary fiber renowned for its digestibility. This product enhances texture and enhances flavor, particularly in reduced sugar systems.
Tate & Lyle produces STA-LITE Polydextrose. This easily utilized soluble fiber imparts minimal color or off-flavor, making it an ideal choice for products aiming to reduce calories and sugar while maintaining desirable texture and taste.
Addressing Nutritional Deficiencies
Developing countries face significant challenges in public health and nutrition, characterized by insufficient access to balanced diets and nutrient deficiencies that impact millions of individuals. However, the food and beverage industry has undergone a transformative shift driven by increasing awareness of dietary fibers pivotal role in maintaining optimal health.
For instance, the Indian Council of Medical Research emphasizes a minimum daily consumption of 40 grams of dietary fiber. Consequently, the country’s population has enthusiastically embraced incorporating fiber-enriched products into their diets, acknowledging their potential to enhance digestive abilities and overall well-being.
Tata NQ’s product FOSSENCE® is a versatile prebiotic dietary fiber supplement. This product, derived from fermented cane sugar, is 100% water soluble. Through clinical studies, the company has demonstrated the positive impact of FOSSENCE® on the gut microbiome, particularly in enhancing the relative abundance of lactobacillus and bifidobacteria. Also, a healthy microbiota, supported by FOSSENCE®, can improve immunity, nutrient absorption, lipid transport, and overall digestive and bowel health.
As per our experts, the Asia-Pacific dietary fibers market is projected to exhibit a promising growth rate, with a projected CAGR of 8.69% from 2032 to 2030.
Navigating the Future: A Fiber-Rich World
As the market expands, businesses must stay informed about evolving regulations and compliance requirements. Additionally, consumer education about the health benefits of dietary fibers and their role in a balanced diet is paramount. Food manufacturers are increasingly fortifying their products with dietary fibers. This approach allows them to leverage various fiber sources, including locally available options like carrots, chicory root, asparagus, Jerusalem artichoke, leeks, and whole grains. By incorporating these fibers, they can create food products with elevated fiber content, catering to the growing demand for high-fiber options. This trend extends to the functional food category, where fiber-based supplements are also gaining traction.
Examples of consumer goods manufacturers fortifying their dietary fibers products are:
KIND offers a variety of cereal bars with dietary fibers. They use ingredients like whole grains, oats, and chicory root fiber to enhance the fiber content and nutritional value of their bars.
Nature Valley incorporates fiber-rich ingredients such as whole-grain oats, wheat bran, and inulin to provide a satisfying and nutritious snack.
Fiber One uses a combination of soluble and insoluble fibers, such as chicory root extract and wheat bran, to boost the fiber content of their bars and promote digestive health.

What Is An Integrated Curriculum? Introduction And How Is It Beneficial?
In a top nursery school in Gurgaon, integrated curriculum is are not uncommon. And these informal performances revolve around various themes covering different topics. In one skit, you may find the nursery students depicting the concept of the solar system, clearly explaining how the Earth moves around the Sun.
Tumblr media
In another, you may see a performance where students showcase how technology has both helped and divested humanity and the necessity to keep an emphasis on the former. Are these skits only about arts? Are the students only learning how to act, sing or dance? As you might have already guessed, the participating students also learn about science and technology through the theme they enact and this is the simple definition of an integrated curriculum.
So, what do we mean by integrated curriculum?
The technical definition of integrated curriculum is any pedagogical approach that integrates or unifies two or more subjects and experiences. The correlation can range from casual attention to remotely related topics to a planned explanation of interrelated disciplines.
An integrated curriculum binds multiple subjects into a common theme and strives to provide a depth of knowledge at all levels. Although the concept is not new, the integrated curriculum became a buzzword in the 21st century. The top schools in Gurgaon have it mentioned in their educational mission as a crucial aspect of their pedagogy.
Types of integrated curriculum
Integrating multiple subjects into a common theme can happen in the following three ways:
Interdisciplinary
Bringing together all the branches or subcategories of a broader subject and teaching students the connection among the same. The classic example is social sciences where government functioning, economics and math are taught as an integration. The relation is direct and teachers plan the connection intentionally.
Fusion Or Multidisciplinary
Science is the best example. Forces taught in physics can easily be connected to chemical reactions in chemistry which, in turn, is an influential concept in biology that explains human metabolism.
Multiple disciplines are taught together and students are shown the bridge that connects them all. In contrast, teaching these subjects as standalone topics can become monotonous and may often seem without purpose.
Service-Learning Or Transdisciplinary
A type of integrated curriculum where real-world issues are connected to the theory taught in the classrooms. Through various social drives, students can come across real-world issues that are challenging humanity now.
From climate change to food scarcity, these need solutions. Transdisciplinary integration connects the science and skills that the top nursery schools in Gurgaon school teaches to these issues and prompts students to brainstorm solutions that can be put into effect.
The benefits of learning in an integrated curriculum
The first outright benefit that an integrated curriculum has on students is 21st-century skill development.
Today, the world is integrating almost everything where healthcare is receiving a boost from technology and history is helping financial analysts. Teaching related subjects in isolation no longer make sense.
Second, an integrated curriculum creates intrinsic motivation. A student may not be solely interested in learning physics but its connected with chemistry or biology may seem interesting.
Students who are intrinsically motivated to learn something show better performance than the group who learns just for the sake of education. Studies have shown that learning in an integrated curriculum has almost always led to deeper knowledge retention.
Third, integrated curriculum directly helps in collaborative and communicative skill development. A professor in Florida, United States, found that her students reported better reading and writing comprehension when she changed her teaching strategy from lecturing about science to building wind and rain machines.
The act of building something prompted students to communicate with each other, work in a team and develop their soft skills.
And lastly, students learning in an integrated curriculum has shown the capacity to think on a higher level. The Florida professor also noted that when students built wind and rain machines instead of just reading about condensation and evaporation in textbooks, they could actually relate to the mechanics of the same and started brainstorming about ideas that could harness wind’s and rain’s powers. Integrated learning opens up the mind’s imaginative potential by giving it a broader view.
Today, if you list top nursery schools in Gurgaon that have always focused on having an integrated curriculum, the Alpine Convent School has to be the first name. The school’s management has been forward enough to include the concept in its pedagogy since the institute’s inception.
Alpine’s vision is to make responsible citizens of the society and to turn its students into inspiration for others. The management along with the faculty continues to strive to fine-tune the quality of education in the school and uphold modern approaches like integrated curriculum in the best possible way.

Addendum!!!
thanks to @tobiatobia and @collector1observer for adding in more crossover setups. Both are soft subcategories of Number 3: Scenery Change imo, so I'm doing a base rundown of them under that umbrella.
3.1- Always There AUs
So, the setup for this is that one fandom's characters are made to have always existed in another fandom. This was pointed out by tobiatobia, who included the example of Edward Elric being an additional member of Aang's team, instead of replacing anyone. The character's backstory can be changed completely to fit them into this new world they are in, as can their abilities and areas of expertise. It's an AU with few canon implications from the side of the characters that have been shifted over, on a surface level.
However, how much of the shifted characters' story you want to keep is purely up to the person writing the fanfic. It's like... if Tim Drake was Always There in the MLB universe but there's no superheroes except for Miraculous users. You have the choice to simply let him be Tim Drake. But you could also just as easily bring all his motivations and backstory and current stories into this. But its all being reframed to happen inside Miraculous Ladybug.
For this, I'd suggest visualizing a slider scale, with how much you want to retell their story alongside these new rules on one end, and how much you want them to have a new adventure on the other end.
3.2- Normal World AUs
Brought to my attention by collector1observer on my Fandom Fusion Guide, Normal World AUs are a Scenery Change where instead of characters from one of the fandoms being translated into the world of the second fandom, both groups are translated to a 'normal world', whether College AUs, Office AUs, even Historical AUs in some cases.
These are more reliant on the characters themselves than the magic and the world they come from, which is... kind of the major appeal in crossovers in general, and I've found makes it a fun way to dig into what characters are and how they interact with each other.
Mostly it is anthropomorphic, or otherwise very fantastical fandoms that are considered to be hard to mesh together, yet people don't want to create the added confusion and anxiety of a Portal Crossover. If you're facing that kind of problem, this type of AU is the best of both worlds!
---
If you have more crossover setups to bring to my attention, please don't hesitate to tell me ^_^ I'm not exactly an expert or anything. Just noting down genre conventions and suggestions into an easy-to-read format.
With over 400k words under my belt of purely crossover fanfiction (no really) I feel like I've dabbled enough in the genre to pinpoint three distinct types of Crossover Fanfiction Setups. With no one else to rant about this, and the hopes that this will be helpful to someone, here's you go:
A Breakdown on All Three Ways to Cross Fandoms Together
1- Fandom Fusion
My favorite type. This is where the worlds are happening on the same plane, simultaneously with one another. So, both stories are happening, or have happened, or will happen, without meshing with each other. Except they don't. Characters from each world meet, and get pulled into the other world's shenanigans. Very easy to do when both stories are both taking place in modern day Earth. Or in similar time periods of Earth.
2- Portal Crossover
Breaking out the isekai trope here. It's a classic work, with a built in setup in stories where grand cosmic scale is introduced. I'm talking the Gate sending Edward Elric into another world, or jonmartin finding Somewhere Else to be another medium entirely. Or Amphibia's music box, or Owl House's Between Dimensions or- or- or- you get it.
It's easy to do, and people are generally willing to accept PORTAL happening esp in superhero media and the like. You dont have to figure out how to make the fandoms compatible either, and gives a good common goal for all parties to work towards (i.e. return the interloper home)
Doesn't have to be a trans dimensional portal. Could be a time travel thing. Or visions. Or whichever plot device you find fits most. I enjoy this a lot because it forces characters who would never normally meet to interact and we need that. The two fandoms being transported could easily be fictional in each other's universes. Or not. The possibilities are endless with this one, just on a surface level.
3- Scenery Change
Last, there is the Alternate Universe Setting. Or, as I prefer, the Scenery Change. This is where the characters from one fandom are taken wholesale and translated into another setting, never having experienced their Original World. You know which ones I'm talking about. The Percy Jackson AUs where characters from another fandom are given godly parents. The Hunger Game AUs. The fandom w four easily separated groups that we do not talk about anymore but is prolly still v prevalent.
There's a lot that can be done with this, ranging both from fluff oneshots to 100k plots, but I've found that this is most effective when unique characters are placed into a very structured setting from another media, where their unique perspectives and reactions will color the overdone situation and give it life. The appeal of these crossovers lie solely in this: "We've seen it happen before, but what would happen if these characters were here?"
And. It. Works.
--------
So, yeah, careful observation has made me categorize these three premises. Tell me if you think there are more. Probably might do some breakdowns on the themes and the possibilities each premise holds the best weight for, and what goes into a crossover AFTER the two fandoms meet.

Writing Fanfic: A Third Weird Trick
Yet another thing easier in fanfic than in canon: pick up your favorite characters, put them in a different setting, time, or planet, and see what happens. Yes, Hercules: TLJ pulled this one off too. The actors playing characters in the French Revolution will never not be funny. All hail the Chartreuse Fox!
Trick #3: Another Time, Another Place, Another Story.
Many, many ways there are to pull this off. Let’s see some of the classic subcategories.
The Fantasy AU. Exactly what it says on the tin; characters written into a classic fantasy world instead of the canon one. Dragons optional but definitely recommended. Knights, wizards, kitsune and shapeshifters common.
The SF AU. Ditto, but with space travel. Sometimes a generic space setting, sometimes a deliberate fusion with worlds like Star Wars, Star Trek, and the Firefly ‘verse. BTW I firmly hold that while Wei Wuxian may look like a disaster to anyone outside the Jedi Council, he’s actually one of the sanest and best they have. While Lan Wangji is one bad day away from being a Sith. All those attachment issues.... Escape Your Destiny is a good fic for that one.
The Superhero AU. Neither SF nor Fantasy, though it has elements of each. Superhero AUs are about characters having flashy powers, Fighting Crime, and otherwise being even more Dramatic than canon. BNHA and MCU fusion fics are common varieties; garden-variety superhero worlds abound as well.
The Time Travel AU. This is a particularly tricky one because it’s also often a Fix-It Fic. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just often a lot of plot is one character desperately trying to set right what in canon went wrong; sometimes with better results than others. This more than the other varieties relies on canon as a backdrop. The characters have to know what they’re trying to fix!
Some stories do mix it up with a side character who doesn’t know half of what really went wrong. Meaning you get the readers on the edge of their seats, trying to guess what will get fixed and what will be missed with horrible consequences....
Finally, you have various flavors of Modern AU. This can range from “characters in a completely normal life” (coffee-shop AUs, high school) to “characters think they’re in a normal life, but there’s actually going to be an unexpected genre shift to Urban Fantasy, Zombie Apocalypse, or Alien Invasion inside three pages”.
Canon provides a background for all these fanfic variants to play out, adding color and substance far beyond what your own wordcount would let you pull off. It lets everyone spin countless variants on a theme; much like the myriad King Arthur stories written centuries ago drew on the central “knights of the Round Table” concept everybody had heard of. Note, I’m not sure anyone beck then wrote King Arthur IN SPACE... but I wouldn’t be at all surprised!

SPN Reclist: Desolate Post-Apocalypse! There’s this amazing subcategory of apocalypse stories that are dismal, dreary, depressing, and it usually serves to put in sharp, evocative, heartwrenching relief how love is fundamentally vital to survival, to carrying on when you feel all has been lost. I love that whole thing. So here are my favorites. ✧ My fic recs are updated regularly on DW and quarterly on Tumblr. Link to the possibly updated reclist on DW here ✧ My entire catalogue of fic recs on tumblr here ✧ This post was last updated 1/21/2022
✧Category: Gen✧ Great Blue World series by vailkagami. Rated NC-17, Gen, 269k words. Summary: A man wakes up in a ruined wasteland, without memories, without a name, without knowing the strange guy who claims to once have been an angel, or that he once had a little brother. All he knows is that the world is dying, everyone is lying to him, and that somehow, somewhere, something went terribly wrong. Because someone said Yes when they should have said No, and someone else paid the price. ao3.org/series/24515 my thoughts: This fic is in my top favorite spn fics of all time. I think this might be the most bleak and violent dystopia AU I’ve ever read yet I’m recommending it because there was so much love and affection in it at the same time. There aren’t many words for how intense this fic is. My eyes were watering and hands a bit shaky when I finished. It was the equivalent of still being a little drunk with a book hangover.
The Winchester Road by meus_venator. Rated R/Mature, Gen, 20k words. Summary:  The world has ended. Lucifer and his legions have moved on, their new battlefield heaven. He has left Earth a barren wasteland, he has also left behind the shattered shell that was once his vessel. This is a story of two brothers finding each other again at the end of the world and facing it’s passing together.A tale of abiding love.Initial concept based on the book and movie The Road. ao3.org/works/442149 my thoughts: So beautifully written, full of such powerful scenes of evil, graphic torture, and then the sweetness of the brothers together. Sam's mute and childlike in this fic, traumatized beyond belief, but still somehow capable of so much love and trust that keeps Dean going. Both voluntary and survival cuddles in this story. It's truly so desolate which puts their love in such sharp relief. Heart-wrenching in the best way. There's MCD but I'd still call it a happy ending. Loved this fic so much. This fic’s also in my movie fusions reclist.
✧Category: Sam/Dean✧ The Last Outpost of All That Is by gekizetsu. Rated NC-17, Dean/Sam, 59k words. Summary:  For the spn_apocasmut challenge. The world is over, and it’s a Winchester’s lot in life to cope with anything – no matter what. The actual prompt is the first quote below, courtesy of innie_darling. Language, angst, humor; all the usual. NC-17 for graphic Sam/Dean. This assumes Sam was not killed at the end of season 2 and that Dean never had to make the deal. Notes follow the tale. ao3.org/works/1786042 my thoughts: Incredible, desolate tale featuring a world where all of humanity except for Sam and Dean inexplicably vanish somewhere around season 2 (oddly prescient for what happened end of 15x18 and into 15x19, eh? but not very similar; there’s no answer for why humanity suddenly goes extinct in this story). I adored the author addressed various infrastructure breakdowns and how Sam + Dean studied and predicted ways to protect themselves from like nuclear plants leaking radiation, finding sustainable power once most grids failed, etc. Just really amazing research went into this, I think. Also featuring Sam and Dean as so in character for S2 for me, and so it was a fantastic slow burn.
The Land of the Blind by candle_beck. Rated PG-13, Sam/Dean, 10k words. Summary: Even the post-apocalypse looks good in certain lights. ao3.org/works/218151 my thoughts: amnesia Sam & post-apocalypse. This story was so gentle and contemplative. Chronicles the first couple times ppl around where they live "at the end of the world" actually see Sam and confirm he's real. The emphasis on no moon was spooky, their house at a still ocean edge spookier still. Fantastic story, so interesting.
the house at the end of the world by urchinesque. Rated PG-13, Dean/Sam, 3k words. Summary:  God turns out the lights and leaves twenty-six trees, a sliver of ocean, seventeen stars, two humans, an angel, and a tiny stone house on a spur of rock. ao3.org/works/6197668 my thoughts: This post-apocalypse is so quiet, ethereal, transcendent. The prose is lovely, contemplative. The 3 of them growing so soft to the point of becoming metaphysical, basically, is amazing. Short fic, but so rich and heavy. Like red velvet chocolate!

@vacantgodling On it king !
The guardians (A Guardian's Tale) are basically non-human entities living as humans. They exist in a sorta regeneration cycle; as the current iteration begins to fade the next is born into the bodies of any lifeform in the universe. This is to both become accustomed to their powers over time and as a "this is what you're protecting". As humans, they have access to a 'demo version' of their guardian form which is called their Peiker, and is much easier on the human mind. This form needs to be unlocked though through things like badassery (Amber), faggotry (Max and William), and self-reflection (Kim).
The Hellion boys (Witchcraft and Alchemy) were marked by Lilith, the Demon they summoned because it seemed like a good idea at the time, which is what makes them Hellions; a sorta subcategory of Magicians who possess demonic magic. They're also rare because the likelihood of surviving a Demon summoning is extremely slim. Their demon forms are sadly only used fully when doing Lilith's final bidding and they've fully embraced being Hellions. Until that point, it's only teased. (Funnily enough, the final bidding happens like, right after an attempted exorcism like not only did you fail you made it worse)
André (The Neon Trilogy) is, spoilers, not human. He was grown in a lab, designed after humans and phoenixes (mainly humans, the phoenix bit is for ideological reasons and swag), so his "true" form is that of a hybrid. I have ideas for how it'll look, so I might doodle it sometime in the future. Obviously for André his truest form is the one where he's wholly human.
In the world of the Maledictus (which needs a new name because I kinda hate it lol) magic is sentient and chooses who wields it. They're contained in objects known as curios, with the maledictus having been split between eight chess pieces. And here's the thing; it's a curse. I'm continuously flopping back and forth as to what it is exactly, but the gist is that nobody should ever wield its power. However, like I mentioned, magic is sentient and does a little whatever it wants. The cursed forms take after the respective chess piece, and is a slow transformation set over time as the mc's use their powers more and more. Because of course I gotta add some body horror into it <3
Speaking of body horror; Leo and Vega (All The Stars Are Watching) ! To make a long story short; Vega is the host of the Astrum pillar, which reigns over magic. Being a host basically means you and your respective pillar are keeping each other alive. Some dumbfuck scientist wanted to study the pillar, and so swapped their places through a ritual. Disastrous mistake as proven in the Abomination trilogy. The pillar, fighting for its life, bonds with Leo (because Vega died in the ritual) and as it's getting settled back in its home realm, Leo and Vega momentarily fuse. It's not a Dragon Ball or Steven Universe fusion, as people can very easily distinguish between the two. Kinda like when you're clipping through someone in a video game. Anyways, it's only for a short period of time, soon as the Pillar is properly back they separate with Leo as the new host, and Vega as a dead person who can finally move on in peace.

My worry for the Justice League crossover is that, from the description, it's not really a crossover, it's more just a RWBY story with new characters inspired by DC characters in the same way RWBY are inspired by fairy tales. I get that this is supposed to be 'Remnant AU' versions of the trinity, but if you change the characters so much, it kinda takes away the appeal of a crossover; i.e seeing these different characters and settings interact.
If we’re using fandom terms it would probably be more accurate to call this project a “fusion” rather than a “crossover” (or acknowledging that this is a subcategory, a specific kind of crossover). For me, crossovers are simply two fandoms meeting somehow, like the Star Trek crew accidentally beaming themselves into the Marvel Universe and working to keep a low profile due to the Prime Directive. It’s still Star Trek, still Marvel, still the two functioning as they should under the new condition of meeting. But a fusion requires more AU elements, like this RWBY story. Not the Justice League meeting the RWBY gang, but rather asking, “What if the Justice League grew up in the RWBY universe?/How would the RWBY universe differ it if existed with characters like those from the Justice League in it?” As you say, it’s a “Remnant AU version of the trinity.”
Which I don’t think is inherently bad in any way. It’s some kind of crossover, just not many’s preferred kind, perhaps. Whereas fusions are obviously popular in fanfic, for a mainstream audience they may indeed be more interested in keeping the characters as is, then seeing how they interact, rather than coming up with what’s essentially a new cast. There’s a LOT of (fascinating!) things to be said about how you balance identifiable character traits with presumed changes that come about in an AU, but at the end of the day something is changed. So others are right to be asking questions like, “Who is Batman if he grew up in a world filled with mindless monsters rather than willful crime?” For one fan, they look forward to the answer to that question. For another, the response is simply, “Yeah, but it’s not really Batman anymore so I’m not interested.”

Lets make some AU terminology
Disclaimer
I cannot possibly go over, mention, or hit, every single type of AU out there. I only hope to generate and/or explain some terms and invite the creation of more. Some of the ones I've ended up with here are: genre, trope, home grown, canon divergent, toss the canon, butterfly effect, reality twist, classic crossover, transplant crossover, framework, hog wild, character fodder, and world fodder.
Okay here we go
The Genre AU
A genre, or genre-bending, AU is an AU which takes the characters of a given canon and transfers them to a generic or original setting based on a specific genre. These are most commonly fantasy AUs, sci-fi AUs, or modern (realistic fiction) AUs. These AUs may or may not retain many or most of the original canon's story beats and plot elements. Often, however, these elements are translated through the lens of the new genre to take a new shape. For example, a character who's original fantasy story and saw themselves locked in a tower with a dragon, may find themselves in a modern AU with an overly protective parent who's installed way too many parental controls on their computer, phone, or living space.
A subcategory of the genre AU is the trope AU. These are some of the most common AUs, which take the characters of a given canon and move them into a well-established environment. (Note: this environment is not created by another canon property. Those are considered a type of crossover.) These include coffee shop AUs, high school AUs, or soulmate AUs, and fusion AUs (more on this last one later).
The Home Grown AU
These are AUs which alter a story or character canon based on ideas or headcanons unique to the canon it alters.  There are two major categories of this:
First is the canon divergent AU. This AU follows canon story lines up to a specific point, where it branches into a new string of events based on certain events playing out differently than they did in the original canon. This could be based on a character making a different decision, or a previous plot element no longer existing, or a new plot element being introduced. Longer canon divergent AUs either toss the canon series of events out the window for something entirely new; or become a kind of experiment on the butterfly effect, reaching similar canon plot beats but in different orders, with different results, and/or to different emotional effect.
The second category is the reality twist AU. These AUs change a fundamental aspect of the canon world and let a story play out based on that change. These could include characters being born under different circumstances, or powers and authorities functioning in fundamentally different ways. Maybe there's a fifth Hogwarts house, or maybe a magical girl's powers hurt to use, or maybe Green Lanterns all permanently turn green. The world is at your fingertips.
Crossover AUs
There are two different categories of crossovers, and we're going to start this section by having a short naming party about them, because one of them doesn't really have a name and the other's name conflicts with a specific type of AU which is referred to by the same name.
The first one's easy, I'll be calling them classic crossovers.
The second category is traditionally called the fusion AU BUT because "fusion AU" also refers to a specific type of trope AU, we'll be having a short interlude here.
Fusion AUs
In 2013, a show called Steven Universe premiered. While it can't take the original credit for the concept or the idea (I don’t know what can, though I hear Transformers has a similar concept), Steven Universe popularized the concept of two characters being able to merge their minds and bodies into a single, new, individual. AUs which incorporate this idea of characters being able to do this do not always incorporate the mechanics by which Steven Universe goes about it, and therefore I classify fusion AUs of this kind as trope AUs, unless explicitly put in the Steven Universe universe. When a fusion AU comes up in conversation without clarification, in modern fan-talk, a typical interpretation is that this is the kind of AU being talked about.
However, "fusion AU" has, for much longer, been a term used to refer to a certain kind of crossover AU. These crossovers take characters from canon A and transplant them into canon B. For the sake of clarity, moving forward, I will be calling this category of AU (the second category of crossover AU, as mentioned above) transplant AUs.
With that out of the way, we can go into greater detail.
Classic Crossovers
The first category I will be calling the classic crossovers. These are the kinds you typically get out of TV shows and movies. In classic crossovers, story-lines and characters stay within their own individual canon and then meet another's canon on the same level. This can happen through the two worlds existing in the same setting all along, or through travel between two universes in a connected multiverse. Classic crossovers include the likes of the Avengers movies, or DCTV's CW crossover events, or some of those classic Disney Channel crossovers. Details of how these two worlds could exist in the same space may be glossed over, or pieced together where they overlap in order to fit the same space, but neither of these options fundamentally alter the canon.
My own crossover fanfic, Heroes Under Drinking Age, is a classic crossover because it combines the worlds of the shows without altering the initial stories that their canon presented.
Transplant Crossovers
As mentioned before, transplant AUs involve taking characters from one canon (canon A) and transplanting them into another (canon B). The types of transplant AUs discussed in this section have canon A's characters replace canon B's characters as the focus of the story. There are two kinds of basic transplant AUs: the framework AU, and what I affectionately call the hog wild AU.
In a framework AU, the characters being transplanted from canon A take on the same rolls as the characters originally inhabiting canon B. This results in canon B's major characters being put to the side or eliminated. If you're making a framework AU, you'll ask yourself questions like "Which of the Harry Potter trio best embodies Luke Skywalker? Who, at that point, would be Leia? Who would be Han?" et cetera, et cetera. A framework AU will largely stay true to the plot beats of canon B, however a framework AU could just as easily go off the rails from the initial line up of characters and venture to new territory based on the new characters involved. At this point, the AU begins to resemble the second kind of transplant AU.
A hog wild AU does not care to line up character roles from one canon to another. Major events of canon B's world may still take place, but the insertion of canon A's characters do not match up with canon B's original cast, and may consequently alter the world in new ways. Hog wild AUs treat canon B's set up as a playground for canon A's characters to explore, and to allow those characters to be explored in a new way by the author. In this way, these AUs share much in common with generic genre AUs, but the inclusion of a secondary setting with it's own canon solidifies the crossover classification.
A hog wild AU may or may not eliminate canon B's characters entirely. If they do not, canon B's characters are far out of sight and do not appear within the new story. Transplant stories which include canon B's characters fall under another category,
Classic-Transplant
At the middle of the spectrum between classic and transplant AUs is another type of AU we can call the classic-transplant AU. These AUs transplant characters from canon A to canon B, but retain the characters and story of canon B. Maybe canon A's characters go through the story alongside canon B's characters. Maybe canon B's characters make minor appearances, implying that the new story with canon A's characters is influencing canon B's story. Either way canon B is not fundamentally disrupted by the inclusion of canon A’s characters.
The Fodder Effect
While I'm here I want to talk about a concept I've considered while thinking about transplant AUs: that is, good canon ends up becoming either character fodder or world fodder.
Character fodder refers to canon which presents characters that are fun, well-rounded, and easy to move from world to world. Canon which can be considered character fodder is largely a matter of taste, but can generally be spotted by the size of the fandom and how prolific that fandom's spread of transplant AUs is.
World fodder refers to a canon which presents a world which is so well-structured, fun, and inventive, that it's easy to transplant characters from anther canon into it's set-up. World fodder stories are easier to spot, as transplant AUs which use a world fodder canon's world as a model can be found across many, many, completely unrelated fandoms. The most popular world fodder story is probably Harry Potter, given that it has it's own AU title: the Hogwarts AU. Other examples would be Star Wars, or the Hunger Games.
In Conclusion
This could obviously get even more complicated and I've probably missed a major category somewhere. Hopefully this can at least create some level of ease of talking about AUs, either when describing them to someone or when attempting to build one with someone an wanting to pick a category you feel the most comfortable writing from. For example, I do most crossovers as transplant AUs. From there I usually choose a framework style and refrain from going too hog wild with it. In other words, I tend to enjoy true framework transplant AUs. In canon divergent AUs, I also tend to prefer butterfly effect stories rather than tossing the canon entirely. In other words, butterfly effect canon divergence.
I hope this can be helpful for future AU discussion!

TIP FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT ARTWORK FOR YOUR LIVING ROOM
Living rooms are the core space in a home. It’s that one common square where all the other squares of the house overlap. Whatever be the style of your living room, formal, informal or semi-formal, its purpose is usually to socialize and interact. Thus it’s the one space in the home that deserves a generous dose of art.
Here are 5 reasons why art is a must-have for living rooms:
It’s a great conversation starter: Art brings with itself many perceptions and interpretations that make it a perfect ice breaker when it comes to conversations. How one interprets a piece of art also speaks volumes about one’s views and ideologies of life. In fact, a conversation about art is a great way to understand compatibility.
It adds character to a room: It’s like the finishing touch to your living room. Its colors or lack of it, its texture, definition, and personality adds character to a room and makes it a complete picture. Depending on the kind of art you choose, you can lend a contemporary, classic or fusion look to the living room.
It is a window into your personality: Whether you are an animal lover or a nature enthusiast, a fun-loving person or a secretive one, have unfulfilled desires or a go-getter, your choice of artwork will define your personality greatly. So choose carefully!
Makes a lovely coordinate: One can choose artwork that complements not just the walls of the living room, but also it’s furnishing. A stunning grey cloud patterned rug goes very well with a monsoon inspired artwork. Or a colorful hand-painted cushion coordinates well with an artwork of a villager, or maybe a black and white abstract. Art offers multiple possibilities of mix and match and is a great way to make or complete your decor story.
Allows experimentation: Art is the most versatile medium of expression and even within a frame, one can experiment with multiple mediums. Oils, watercolor, mixed media, all work very well in living rooms. Being one of the largest rooms of the house, one can also experiment with sizes, combinations, and paneling to create stories with art.
Once you have decided to invest your time, effort and money in the art (good decision!), and you know how impactful it can be to add that perfect finishing touch to your living room, it’s important to select the right artwork. Here are valuable tips for choosing the right artwork for your living room:
Identify the right position: The right position of artwork is where it adds value to the room instead of appearing to be a liability tucked in a corner. It has to have visual accessibility and the right amount of light. One must also identify the right orientation depending on the wall you decide to display it on.
Contrast or complement: The artwork has to either complement your decor and its color scheme and fuse with it or completely contrast it to stand out. For example, a white-dominated room can either have a stark black and white painting or bright orange and red painting. But a room dominated by pinks and purples might not want to go for a red piece of art.
Get the right size: Just like an outfit too loose or too tight can make you look unflattering, an artwork which is not the right size can take away from the beauty of the room and the artwork itself. It’s a good idea to measure the dimensions of your wall before you go out to look for artwork. It is also important to measure the sizes of the furniture it is going be placed above or around (a sofa or a console) and ensure that the size of the artwork doesn’t exceed 2/3rd of the size of the furniture.
Choose a piece of art that showcases your personality: As we mentioned earlier, the art you choose defines to a great extent your persona and your taste. So, it’s best to select a piece personally and something that defines who you are, what you believe in and how you view the world. It could be a window to your desires, your inner motives or simply something that you strongly promote.
Representational Art: This kind of art is usually realistic and represents actual subjects from reality. It’s the oldest form of art and is usually sub-categorized into Realism, Impressionism, Idealism, and Stylization. In Realism, one usually creates a truthful and realistic image of the subject, while Impressionism is the artist’s impression of the object depicted with relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes. The focus here is on capturing the light right and depicting the essence of the image artfully. Idealism is the reproduction of an idealistic or beautified image of the subject while Stylization is a skilfully stylized version of the actual object.
Abstract Art: Abstract art takes subjects from reality but presents them in a way that is different from how we view them in reality. Here, artists usually use lines, shapes, and colors to transform the subject. The fun part about abstract art is that it leaves a lot to the imagination and allows the viewer to interpret his own version of the artwork, or simply leaves one guessing about what the artist has in mind about the subject. Abstract art includes the subcategories of Minimalism and Cubism. In Minimalism, unnecessary elements of a subject are eliminated to create minimalist forms while Cubism is one of the first abstract styles of modern art where the natural forms of the subject are reduced to their geometrical equivalents.
Non-objective art
This type of art is commonly mistaken for Abstract art although it is entirely different from it. Non-Objective art takes nothing from reality. Its sole purpose is aesthetics. Once you have chosen your piece of art, it’s time to highlight it in the right way to make it stand out.
Here are 5 tips on highlighting artwork in your living room
Lighting: It’s best to choose from ceiling lights, track lights, wall washers, and picture lights to highlight your precious piece of art. Experts suggest that ceiling-mounted lights should be placed such that the light beam hits the center of the artwork when the fixture is adjusted to a 30-degree angle. Track lights are usually the right lights for artwork but not the best fit for living rooms since we don’t want something other than artwork jutting out near it. Wall washers are a more casual way to light up artwork but more suited when there are multiple pieces of art on one wall. Picture lights are the lights that have been used traditionally to highlight a specific piece of artwork.
Framing: The most common types of frames are ornate gold, wooden frames, metallic frames, and minimalist frames. Ornate gold frames can be used to highlight a simple piece of art elegantly while wooden frames complement wooden or leather furniture well. Metallic frames allow one to pick a color from the artwork and highlight that in the frame while a minimalist frame lets the artwork be the hero and simply provides a definition.
Positioning: The safest and most common way to position your artwork is in the center. However, if you are in the mood to experiment, try going off-center, but make sure you have something to balance on the other side. If you are looking to display a bunch of art pieces, opt for an odd number and start from the center.
Here are other things that you need to know while selecting art for your living room.
Complementing: Artwork needs to complement your decor in all ways. Repetition of colors from the artwork in the decor increases its impact in the room. To achieve this, opt for furnishings in complementing colors. Or add flowers or plants.
Knowledge: It is important to be updated about the artist of the artwork, his style and to gather as much knowledge as possible about the piece of art you possess. After all, you have many conversations that will revolve around it soon.
