Submerged in Psychedelia
Let's dive into the technicolor waters of the Yellow Submarine! In 1968, when the world was spinning to the beat of peace, love, and trippy tunes, Pyramid Publications and King Features Syndicate jointly published the Official Beatles Yellow Submarine Magazine/The Beatles: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. The Beatles created this far-out treasure trove to celebrate their colorful fantasy film Yellow Submarine. The magazine features behind the scenes tidbits, an illustrated film synopsis, and even a few groovy sea creatures.

Billboard - August 21, 1965 - U.K. Pop Jazzfest Filmed By Epstein, U.S. Producer
LONDON - The three-day Richmond Jazz Festival (6-8), which attracted popular music fans from all over Britain, was filmed jointly by American producer Leon Mirell for Selmur Productions and Brian Epstein’s Subafilms, which was associated with making the new Beatles’ film “Help!”
It was filmed by American twin ‘Gemini’ cameras in both film and VTR process; in both color and black and white. Mirell and Epstein plan to make it available to the world for TV showing this fall. Mirell has been in Britain filming acts for ABC-TV’s “Shindig.”
Popular stars of the jazz festival included Manfred Mann, the Animals, the Yardbirds, the Moody Blues, Georgie Fame, the Who and the jazz bands of Kenny Ball and Chris Barber.
But there were many variations of the groups as opposed to their normal lineups. For example, the Animals were augmented with a brass section, Manfred Mann added a drummer so that Mike Hugg could play vibes. The event also highlighted the New Jazz Orchestra.
The filming was directed by Peter Croft and the festival was presented by Harold Pendleton and Georgio Gomelski on behalf of the National Jazz Federation.

The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (From "Yellow Submarine") Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Revolver with the digital release of the video for “Eleanor Rigby” - revisit the album now: http://ift.tt/2bmMySf Released as a double A-side with the song "Yellow Submarine in August 1966, Eleanor Rigby marked a giant leap forward in the way that The Beatles thought about their art, following their exploration of new and more complex musical ideas such as “Day Tripper” and “Paperback Writer”. Written and performed by Paul McCartney as part of the Revolver sessions, this features a string composition from George Martin that helped to change the way that people considered “pop music”. The film is a sequence originally used in the movie Yellow Submarine", released in July 1968. With it’s surreal, ground-breaking visuals it both brought a new concept of creating a visual video to accompany a song and also ushered in a new style of animation which helped to inspire Terry Gilliam’s animations for the TV comedy series, Monty Python’s Flying Circus. It is reported that The Who will star in a pilot television project, now in preparation, which could develop into Britain’s answer to the Monkees. Brian Epstein’s Subafilms company is to produce a thirty-minute programme intended to be the first of a possible series of shows designed for worldwide television. The pilot will be produced, in colour, in association with Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp who will also direct the film. The idea is soon dropped.
