i get what you’re saying, it’s an interesting perspective. i can’t help but think though, there isn’t really a universal ‘right’ thing to do is there? there’s always going to be people who gain and people who lose. like the story mentioned it’s impossible to have a story without sacrifice. yeah kdj hurt kimcom by sacrificing himself but the fact of the matter is that the world would have come to a stop if not for it. i don’t know if he ignores the fact any more than he realises that the benefit of them being alive living their lives outweighed the loss of his presence.

even kimcom had accepted that it was something that had to be done. if not for kdj, who could’ve stepped up? the world would’ve never gone back to normal and the author told us from the beginning that kdj hated endings. he hates it when the story fell out of his grasp and he hated being alone. being selfish would’ve meant finding a way to stay with kimcom even if it meant staying in the library. all those times he sacrificed himself throughout the book were so that he could see an end where he’d be with his family but he had to give that up.

i think doing what you believe is right doesn’t necessarily coincide with what you want to do. being selfish would mean putting your own desires over that of others. but sometimes fate forces your hand and you have to work with what you have to the best of your ability. yes kimcom would’ve rather died than let go of dokja but what about the rest of the world? yes kimcom were hurt but they survived. dokja is by no means a hero but he weighed the pros and cons and decided that that was the best path he could take. when you think about it, hsy dooms millions of worlds just so that dokja made it past fifteen. so our measures on who is ‘more’ selfish can be subjective.

i remember recently reading a chapter where dokja said that on first glance you might think yjh is a realist because of how cold he is but the truth was that he was the most idealist person of them all. it was dokja’s realism that allowed kimcom’s idealism to exist. i’m not saying dokja hasn’t made some selfish choices but i don’t think becoming the oldest dream was one of them.

In case anyone missed it... There's a Korean fan musical group called Team Spade that's doing a fan musical of ORV.

They recently posted this segment of the Dark Castle/Demon King Selection arc on their channel! For free! In 4K quality! And they will be adding English subs soon!!

For an independent, not-for-profit fan project, it's really well executed! They composed & wrote all the songs themselves along with the choreography and costuming! They also delivered stellar vocal performances, particularly the actor for Kim Dokja and Lee Sookyung!! Even when there weren't any subs, I could more or less understand what was going on and be immersed in the scene because of how emotive the singers were.

What's more, their staging is really cool. They put so much thought in how they chose to interpret these scenes, e.g. the opening sequence, the Demon King Selection, Jung Heewon's internal conflict in Reinheit's "Paradise", Lee Sookyung "trapping" Kim Dokja to protect him, etc. I think both artists and writers alike can draw a lot of inspiration from how these were interpreted and portrayed on stage!

It's clear that this project was made with a lot of love and thought! Please support them by watching their performance on their channel!!

'serials' and 'textpia' are slightly misspelled 'series' and 'munpia' in the kr text, i changed it to similar sounding words. don't remember if i mentioned that before (it shows up in star writer too)

lhh seems to not believe him, but most people are convinced at this point. well, it seems it's time for him to step in

now this is interesting, because this also applies to him.., lhh asks if the author would know more about orv than the readers, and proposes a small quiz, which the author accepts

these are questions the host of the original kdj's banquet asked, and obviously the author wasn't there so he just gets humiliated. but he was just joking around, so what's the final question?

this is true, actually! it's not the 14th but 41st. both the epub and official webnovel text it has it as the 14th regression (it's fixed in the webtoon tl). presumably when orv was translated the typo hadn't been fixed at the time, and when it was later fixed in korean the english translation was not updated (expected, tbf, there's also a lot of typos. no fault to the translators, but webnovel is huge could they not have paid a little more attention to the translation they're hosting?)

now, if this guy was actually the author, he obviously would have known about the change. so why does he only know of it from before it was fixed? the 'author' asks who lee hakhyun is and how he would know all that, and lee hakhyun says that he's read orv more than 100 times. obviously the author doesn't believe him, but lie detection confirms his words.

i don't think this would be added for no reason, singshong might have considered this at one point too? that's really cool if so, singshong adding in extra facts about orv into the side story in a perfect way,,

they roll again, and get a 5. however, they hit a trap stage, and go down three steps, and enter a regular stage. they end up in a movie.. and the landscape is familiar. it's the dinosaur movie that was in orv.. and the system mentions that there are other contestants in the movie.

The apocalypse happened but imagine instead being an office worker, Kim Dokja was a Idol, that the [Kim Dokja Company] doesn't know except for Yoo Sangha and Han Sooyoung since they're the only ones that knows and might be interested into music/idols.

So, a commissioned sub scenario is were Kim Co. had to perform like an idols, be in duo, solo, or in group, which they have to perform a specific genre given. Suprise suprise! Uriel almost went bankrupt from the unexpected un-filtered KDJ performing. It's not even erotic.

KDJ had done all kinds of fan service, so when the kids asked a video or a photo of Idol!KDJ because the live performance wasn't enough, HSY, much to KDJ horror, showed a clip of him doing a Aegyo in a outfit. (Up to interpernation)

first impression on ‘once upon a small town’ (first three episodes)

lately, i’ve been in the mood for healing and heartwarming drama (plus points if it’s set at the countryside) and that’s why i started watching a romance of the little forest. though, that was also influenced by my longing for more LBFAD content so i seek it through esther yu’s presence in AROTLF. but as AROTLF is still airing and the pace of which the subbed episodes are uploaded is quite slow, i decided to watch another drama while waiting for the whole show to be fully subbed and the drama i chose to watch is once upon a small town, starring choo young woo as han ji yul and park soo young as ahn ja young. 

despite having known of park sooyoung or joy as a member of red velvet, this is actually my first time watching her drama. i didn’t have much expectation, to be quite honest, not because i look down on the ‘idol actor’ label, but because i’m not familiar enough with dramas or her acting to form any pre-conceived opinion on it. however, this didn’t stop me from being amazed at how natural her portrayal of ahn ja young is. i also enjoy choo young woo’s acting; it was actually his acting in the first few minutes of the first episode, when he thought that something bad had happened to his grandparents, that convinced me that i’m going to enjoy this. i find his acting to be very convincing; han ji yul is ‘alive’. 

another reason why i knew that i’d enjoy this drama is because of the characters. in the first episode alone, the show managed to introduce us to not only the three main characters, but also supporting characters such as the nurse working at the vet and the three fierce but kindhearted aunties and they caught my attention right away. i like the chemistry among the cast; i think that everyone did a good job with their respective role. 

speaking of chemistry, ahn ja young has good chemistry with both han ji yul and lee sang hyun. (i’m calling them peach guy and vet in my head). after watching three episodes, i have to say that although i’m certain that the end game is going to be ahn ja young/han ji yul, i still quite enjoy her interactions with lee sang hyun. they’re cute together! every time they sit together at the coffee truck my heart just begins to warm. they look so good together. it would be nice if they end up together, but they’re cute as good friends too. 

i may or may not write a follow up to this post (once i finish watching the drama), but we’ll see!
