One thing I don't often see people talk about in Steven Universe.

In the series most of Stevens powers come from a need to protect those around him. His shield, his bubble, healing spit/tears, all designed, and come from the desire to, protect those around him. With the exception of his floating which comes from a sense of joy and happiness.

In Future his new powers stem from a subconscious need to protect himself, instead of a need to protect others. He's dealing with a lot and his powers are reacting in an explosive way to keep him safe. Super speed to escape a dangerous situation, explosive screams to throw the threat away from him, and panels, thicker and stronger than his shield and bubble, to shield him from the perceived threat.

Which then makes me wonder, since Pink on Homeworld was known for destructive "temper tantrums" how often she must've felt so unsafe, scared and unhappy that her powers reacted the way Stevens do in Future.

When she became Rose Quartz she felt confident, comfortable and more safe as Rose than as Pink. She had a strong desire to protect the Earth and the Crystal Gems, developing her powers into the ones we see most in the show.

I think a lot of people forget that Garnet's future vision isn't, like, accurate? That's the whole point of Future Vision; Garnet sees so many timelines, and she has to pick and choose which to follow, and they aren't' always accurate. Pool Hopping reinforces that concept, with Garnet being unable to pick which future Steven will follow because she's ignored his development.

She even does it in Future! She's so sure that Steven is in the "pepperoni timeline" that she doesn't even consider that he might be taking the vegetarian option.

Garnet has an approximate knowledge of many things, and she just kinda picks which future she thinks is true based on characters and how they act. Her future vision isn't a solid thing that she can just Know how things will go down. She guesses. A lot.

Like with any media I get into, an AU is sure to follow, so here’s something @sleepysquib and I have been cooking up!

We wanted Haibara to live, that was it :D

Here’s a “brief” summary of his whole deal:

During August 2007, his second year at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, he went on a mission with fellow second year Nanami Kento. The mission’s level turned out to be higher than expected. Haibara received critical wounds, but was able to escape with Nanami with their lives. He was healed by Shoko’s reverse curse healing technique.

After his brush with death, he realized that he needed to be taking this more seriously. That, combined with Geto’s betrayal, led him to becoming less naive. However, he didn’t want to lose his positivity, so he focused on increasing his abilities through his emotions, eventually becoming promoted to Grade 1.

After graduation, Nanami still ran from the life of a jujutsu sorcerer, while Haibara stayed in that world. He saw his role as something akin to a superhero, and took it in stride, calling himself “Cupid” and being very public about his status. He quickly became popular and gained a fanbase, taking pictures and signing autographs for them when he has time.

Being received well by the media and being good on camera, Haibara became somewhat of a PR boy for the jujutsu sorcerers. He could make a bad situation sound less terrible through his natural charm.

Nanami and Haibara remained best friends during the time that Nanami was working as a salaryman. Eventually, Nanami learned the bakery lesson and realized his place was as a sorcerer. He returned to that life and was quickly paired with Haibara for many missions.

Haibara knows that the world isn’t the happy place he wishes, but he tries to be the change he wants to see and spreads positivity. He also does this in hopes of lessening the amount of cursed spirits created by the negative emotions of humans.

As a result of always expressing positivity, his negative emotions are naturally bottled up. He does this on purpose, stockpiling his negative emotions so he can release and harness their power if a battle becomes that dire. His last resort is to unleash his negative emotions, which increases his power greatly for a brief period of time. After this burst of power, he is left exhausted and drained and will need to recover. He is aware that he is being “toxically positive” but does so to increase his power with negativity later.

He doesn’t express joy all the time and doesn’t force himself to express it every moment of the day, but he will always express positivity in public and during battles to keep up morale and his image (although he doesn’t care about image in a narcissistic way).

He is liked by most people and others vent and confide in him. The personal sharing of their negative emotions adds to that stockpile that he can use if necessary.

Haibara tries to not express his own negative emotions to others because it will decrease that stockpile inside and he knows he needs to save that for dangerous battles. He knows it’s not healthy but he does it for the good of Japan, seeing himself as a superhero.

Much like a cursed spirit, his greater power increases when those around him have expressed negative emotions, but he doesn’t like to acknowledge the fact that he has something in common with cursed spirits.

Lives by the mottos of “With great power comes great responsibility” and “greet the world with open arms”

Back in Far Harbor gang… I get they probably didn’t want to extend a cutscene where the player had no control out too long, but I do wish in the Acadia meeting that you can eavesdrop on they brought up Nick 😭 but they do Not so here’s me making up scenarios. The Usual. 😏

Thinking about this post and how Alastor pulled apart the screen first while Vox did the surrounding thing first.

I think it could reflect to how their relationship went.

At first, Alastor started to pull away, but it wasn't anything final yet since it feels more... artificial in a way?

But then Vox started to become more obnoxious, making Alastor feel like he was being surrounded before Vox fully tore their relationship apart.

(It honestly worries me how in Vox's parallel it shows him dividing Valentino and Velvette apart and I hope to god that's not foreshadowing that Vox will push the Vees away the same thing he did with Alastor but the leaked audition sheet for Vox is making me chuckle in danger)

Alastor surrounding Vox shows how after their relationship broke off, Alastor started to intentionally make Vox to continue to remember his existence, not letting him to forget who he is since we see him going in front of his cameras.

At least that's my interpretation.

Steven universe and Oswald fighting there pibbified selfs

You’re lucky I’ve drawn SU characters before, so it should be sorta easy.

Oswald and Steven are getting ready to fight against their pibbified selves. Oswald had landed in Steven’s world and needs together back into his own as he feels unsafe in a foreign world while his younger brother and Significant Other has to prepare for a threat looming in Oz’s world. Suddenly, Pibbified Oswald appeared and from behind came Pibbified Steven.

Oswald: looks like we’ll have to fight off ourselves.

Steven: I’ve done that before so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Pibby Oswald: *Turns into a big version of himself.*

Oswald: oh- oh- ah- oh, uh oh. I think I’ll have more difficulty…

The crystal gems comes into battle.

Garnet: Reinforcements are here!

Pearl:I’ll take care of the little rabbit’s big corrupted self.

Amethyst: Don’t worry Steven, I’ve got your back!

And the epic battle begins

Queen Karma: Now Destino, remember who you are speaking to.

Destino: Yeah, I remember. I’m talking to someone who clearly doesn’t trust me enough to tell me the truth. No games. I get you don’t want to tell me where it’s from but could you at least tell me what’s so special about the crystal itself? I don’t want this thing suddenly mind controlling me or exploding in my face.

*King Nox gives a very subtle nod to Queen Karma.*

Queen Karma: I guess I can reveal a little. On our trip to get some ores cut and gather some more food, we managed to find a Pokémon who had expertise in different types of crystals. He showed us his collection and so we asked him for a necklace with one of those crystals to help you. He struggled, admittedly, but was able to find what we were looking for. I’ve forgotten the name of it. X stone?

King Nox: No, I think it was a Y shard.

Queen Karma: oh yes, I think you’re ri- *the Queen looks directly at you, eyes furiously staring at you.* A fairy type! Nox, you know how to deal with them.

King Nox: *the king readies himself to pounce, claws ready to tear into you.* Damned fairy. How did you get in here, scum?!

Destino: Whoa whoa, hold on. It’s just the communicator. None of these Pokémon are real. They’re just copies. We can all get along here. Besides, I can just turn off the communicator and they’ll all disappear.

Queen Karma: …

King Nox: …

Destino: Look, I’ve had this communicator on and they’ve not caused any trouble. None of these Pokémon have. Sure, some of them have decided to piss me off but they’re clearly jealous of me. Besides, they’re only here to speak to me. If any of them did decide to take action, I’ve given them plenty of warning about them having to deal with me.

King Nox: You better damn hope that they are only copies, because if I find out that they are real Pokémon, every last one of them will be slain by my paws. Understand? Karma, we need to have a talk. In private.

Queen Karma: Of course dear. Now Destino honey, you better go and try out that crystal. Let me know if it works. If it doesn’t, a certain Pokémon will be catching these paws. See you later, sweetie. *she gives Destino a kiss on the forehead. The King and Queen both head off. However, as they’re leaving, you hear the Queen quietly muttering, “They don’t look like copies at all. I hope they haven’t found it or who knows what Pokémon will be down here.” Destino doesn’t hear this. They’re too focused on the crystal.*

*Destino tries to call after them.* Destino: You forgot to tell what a z crystal, stone thing is! Ah f*ck them. Well, time to relax for a bit. You lot can find me in the throne room if you need me. Clearly my parents ain’t gonna use them anytime soon. *Destino puts the crystal in their room and heads upstairs. They shuffle around for a bit, trying to find the perfect comfy spot. They finally settle.*

I apologize for being a huge butthurt SU fan on main today.

It will happen again. Probably whenever another story driven cartoon's finale occurs and people use that to bash SU too.

Honestly the only thing making that a "probably" is that I can't think of any current story driven cartoons right now.
