working on making a stylophone from scratch using this guide:

issue is, I realise now all the keys are gonna be playing the notes the wrong way around. whoops. this is what I get for trusting a random search on the internet.

I haven't soldered for a good few years (back in high school when I was like 14?) but I think I've been doing a decent job :) ordered in components and got to work figuring out the resistor values I needed because there's like 30 unique values in this thing oh my god. still a WIP (and I've got series and parallel mixed up so gonna have to unsolder some things -w-) and a lot of this still needs to be soldered but I'm making good progress for sure.

it's really fun to get hands on with electronics again and I miss doing physical things like this so, maybe I'll do this again sometime :3 the future goal would be to start building a eurorack modular synth setup sorta from scratch because fuck how much they cost dude holy shit but idk anything about that yet so I thought this would be a good initial project.

as always for every post, happy to receive advice and tips :)

Meet Zzzomnyth!

A fanmade Ethereal monster based very loosely on Zoot I made for fun. :)

Instrument is the Stylophone, and it can be bred or bought on Fire Haven and Ethereal Island

The hardly-spotted Zzzomnyth absent-mindedly escapes from the Pocket Dimension into the warmest areas it can find- which results in finding itself misfit amongst groups of Fire monsters. Cleverly hiding the fact behinds its sunglasses to come off as attentive and alert, this monster sleeps for 18 hours a day- performing most of its tasks using the Ethereal power of Dream. Collecting the liquified product of its dreams into a dish, it channels high-voltage currents generated by its tail rings into its claws. The liquid creates a distinct buzzing sound as its submerged claws vibrate at high speeds. While it pairs well with the sounds of other Monsters despite its contrasting appearance, the Zzzomnyth quickly becomes exhausted! It thumps its foot rapidly under high stress, which makes it vulnerable to accidentally transporting itself across dimensions- just like its close relatives.

Played on the stylophone. I'm still stumbling over Sailor's Hornpipe, but it's surprisingly hard.

I just spent a solid twenty minutes trying to find the name of a song (it was Jerk It Out, by Ceasars Palace) because I had that one stylophone meme stuck in my head and apparently they don't even yell "LET'S GO" in the song?? My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

SONG OF THE WEEK— 55 years ago, David Bowie released his first version of “Space Oddity” to celebrate the pending Apollo 11 moon landing. When I was a teenager, the song reached me in the deepest way, and it radically affected how I create music. In recording my cover of it I was blessed to work “a galaxy of talented personnel” (credits):

Some interpret “Space Oddity” as a dystopian story of futility and failure. I beg to differ. If you study the indicators in David Bowie’s music, he enjoyed a spiritual quest, a pursuit of God’s heart in the cosmos, inner and outer. There’s no sign that Bowie killed off Major Tom. Instead, Bowie reprised the Major Tom character as a conflicted man, “…Strung out on heaven’s high, making an all-time low,” seeking redemption from his foibles while expressing awe at the vast potential of creation. 

My goal in covering this song point towards the childlike faith/sci-fi themes of my next full length album (in the works), WE’RE GETTING CLOSER TO THE SUN.
