i adore your takes on stalia and i agree with all of them. stiles was completely and utterly in love with malia. their bond was just too strong to ignore and downplay as hard as so many in the fandom do. malia would love stiles for the smallest of things, appreciate and adore him every time they’re together, something stiles wasn’t used to and was always surprised knowing he’s someone’s priority, to have someone that he knows loves him so much and is so dearly loyal to him the way he was to her. I can talk about each and every one of their scenes for hours because one line has so much deeper meaning in it always when you look through its context. stiles would get mistreated and judged, he had to be the coolest guy to even get lydia’s attention. when stiles approached her wanting to get to know each other better she wasn’t even listening and rudely said “is it worth repeating?” meanwhile malia would go out of her way to notice what’s wrong with him after the donovan incident and he would just not say anything because he was so afraid of judgment. so afraid that he would lose the ones he love when malia had made it clear she would never judge him ever since they first properly met at eichen house. “i won’t judge, promise.” to malia saying “it didn’t matter to me, that’s why i never said anything.” malia knew when stiles didn’t answer her question about his shoulder that he needed time alone and wasn’t ready to open up, and she gave him that. stiles in 5.01 says how constantly gets anxious

and begins to open up about his issue after she was worried first and reached out to ask him and listen to him again. she highlights how stiles thinks stuff “obsessively” and that means she knew him too well. and was always there whenever he needed that support. malia understood after he he spoke about his dad losing contact to everyone from high school that that’s the reason he wanted everyone together that day, “because you don’t wanna lose all your friends after senior year.” says malia and stiles responds with “and i hope they don’t wanna lose me either.” referring to malia specifically at that point because malia smiles and they kiss. he said “what if scott is my best friend now, but he’s not my best friend for life.” stiles straight up said he wanted malia in his life as his girlfriend. like literally forever. and malia wanted that as well.

that cure scene in 4.11 where malia noticed how stiles was helping her looking for her biological mother, in his board written “who is the desert wolf?” and the second she did she flipped him waking him up in the cutest way, stiles thought she would probably mind him not brush his teeth but she didn’t. and the look on his face when she said she didn’t care is so precious, he is shocked she would say that, like asking her “really?” and then his soft smile before they kiss again, they’re just always so sweet and gentle with each other. there are so so many more scenes of theirs i can mention that shows just how effortlessly in love stiles was with malia. they deserved that endgame. s6 is awful, which is glad it flopped, the ratings are embarrassingly low and for a reason. people can tell when something is forced. and both dylan and shelley were disappointed by how stalia broke up and wished both for them to stay together forever.

He had absolute trust in her, seen when he stayed with her on the full moon when her chains broke. He was her anchor, he brought her back. And he knew she was strong enough to control her shift. And just that scene. Like she, indirectly of course because it wasn't her fault she was just a small child, caused her mom and sister to die because she couldn't control her shift. And she was terrified of that happening again and Stiles heard that, validated her, but still stayed because he KNEW she was strong enough and wouldn't hurt him.

He couldn't even sleep without her! Stiles went through A Lot. He has lots of trauma himself and she helped him feel safe enough to sleep. That's why the position of her spooning him was the only one he could get comfortable in. Stiles took care of a lot because of his love for Scott, but he really didn't have anyone taking care of him. Now a lot of that was because he didn't open up (and in Scott's defense, I'm a Scott McCall stan first lol, he had like so so much going on himself, it makes sense he wasn't really able to keep up with everyone, though he also tried) but Malia kinda saw through that. Like I don't even know if she realized what she offered Stiles, but she was def his safe space. The sleeping scene showed that. And he was her safe space, as established by the chain breaking full moon scene.

Like S5 started and he flat out said his life plans included being with Malia. That was "the plan" and that's when Malia was like "I love the plan, especially cause I'm in it!" Like how Allison planned to be with Scott past college, Stiles planned being with Malia.

For the absolute life of me I don't understand why they broke them up. And not just broke them up, but in such a bullshit way. Like the breakup scene wasn't even a breakup scene? It wasn't mentioned at all that they were done. Even Shelley had to be told "oh yeah y'all broke up" and she was like ...umm did I act that scene out? Which means it wasn't even explicitly clear in the script, ffs. But they still had to me tied. Malia's bio mom legit went after Stiles cause she knew that was how to get to Malia. And then Stiles flat out attacked her trying to help Malia when she was fighting with her mom. Like they were still very much each other's person!

I didn't watch S6. I watched 601 and that was it. I did notice how they literally had Malia in Stiles's clothes in 601 and still had him do the "i love you" to Lydia and was like???

I said, since S2, that if they ever put Stiles and Lydia together I was out. And when that happened, I was out. Which still pisses me off because I genuinely love this show. I own S1-5 on DVD! I didn't even really keep up with it on tumblr back then. I would occasionally check the tag but everything I heard was so outlandish, not even just Stalia related, that I was just like "well this show only had 5 seasons, such a shame it was cancelled after only 5 seasons." I didn't even know the ratings were THAT BAD until like right before the movie came out. And I let out a hearty chuckle when I found that out. Couldn't even clear 500k viewers. 

And what you said about Dylan is so true! He was always like "I think Malia's it for Stiles." "Stiles loves Malia." "Stiles should end up with Malia." "I still love Stiles and Malia together." And Shelley also thought they should be together. She's dropped the "coyotes mate for life" line. And fun fact, Holland didn't like Stiles and Lydia either. No one wanted that ship except people that wouldn't move on from S1/2!Stiles. And not even those seasons!Lydia cause she could not have cared less about Stiles then. They were never even close! Never! It made no sense! lol

Anyway. Yes. I agree with you on how Stalia was IT. And it made no sense to throw that away for ratings, they were never going to get.

So I finally sat down and watched the Teen Wolf movie, but it's been out long enough that I feel like it's okay to talk about, but just in case... 🚫*spoilers ahead*🚫

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK WAS THIS?!?!

1st complaint: literally every single romantic relationship for Malia has felt incredibly forced, even in the show, but none more than whatever the hell she and Parrish had! I might except some arguments for Stalia, but I always knew Stydia would be endgame...

Speaking of Stydia... let's talk about my 2nd complaint which is that trash throw away ✨️reason for Lydia leaving Stiles✨️ "idea" are you- are you really telling me, the girl that was able to convince a whole group of people and HIS FATHER that Stiles even existed after everyone forgot him and was able to bring him back into existence would just... leave him after a DREAM?!?! She fought against everyone telling her she was crazy for remembering someone who supposedly never existed, but she wouldn't fight for a reason to stay with the love of her life??? Cause that's not the Lydia I remember! She was stubborn, brave, and most of all she believed in her ideas cause she knew how smart she was! This just seemed like the "must use woman's pain to further plot" trope. On top of having a reason for Stiles not to be there since Dylan couldn't be in the movie.

3rd complaint: did none of the relationships the show workout or something? Like... why did Scott AND Argent not want Melissa to know they were in town? Argent and Melissa were so cute! She helped him heal and move on, he actually liked and let her be the strong independent woman she always was. I don't particularly care that Allison came back, I wasn't crazy about how they handled it, but whatever. I think Allison would've been happy to see her dad happy again after how he was after her mom died and then eventually her... instead of lonely and grieving his life away.

But no, Melissa and Argent gone.

But also Stydia... gone.

Scalia... gone.

And from what little I gathered Ethan and Jackson are... something. But Jackson is apparently comfortable just being gone and lying to him about why.

Speaking of being gone... onto my 4th complaint! ALL OF PETER HALE'S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT WAS JUST GONE!!! Like they had me in his first scene with the blow torch, that was just regular old sassy Peter, but then he was just all Gung-ho for killing Allison and right back to his revenge filled ways. He was so protective and ready to finally be a dad for Malia at the end of the show, granted he still had a long way to go, but he was finally fighting with the pack and mending his relationship with Derek. When Scott is monologuing at the end of the final episode he says "Now we have allies who used to be enemies. We have protectors." And it cuts to a clip OF PETER FREAKING HALE!!!!! Like I wasn't expecting perfection, Peter was always a bit of a d*ck, but for all of his progress to just be gone was heartbreaking. Only redeeming part was the cigar and blowtorch bit because it had so much Doc Ock 2004 vibes.

And finally Derek... I just- I can't... I know it's cliche and cringey to say, but this movie is not canon for me. Because if it was, that means I would have to admit all the garbage I just watched was real. And I will not accept that. Most of all Derek's fate... Just no.

Anyway... I could continue, but I would be going on forever with complaints. The way I see it is, I still love the show and I will still watch it. This movie doesn't exist and the characters are all still out there together living their best lives as they should be.

Jeff Davis and Tyler Posey's jealousy, bitterness and obsessive hate boner for Sterek is SO big that they literally burned Derek (rape victim and survivor of the Hale fire) alive and gave Derek's son to Scott (the toxic scumbag who told Derek that his family deserved to die and who violated Derek's bodily autonomy and consent for his own gain throughout the whole series)

I think if anything Jeff Davis lives vicariously through Scott McCall and envisions himself as the Scott that would've been, which is why he got so frustrated when his plan to turn Derek Hale into the villain failed. Stiles was supposed to be the irrelevant comedy relief sidekick, too, and it had the same outcome.

As for Sterek; while its certainly the biggest example of how any ship that overcame Scallison was trashed, its not exactly a lone case. Scisaac was another example, and Stalia/Stydia as third and fourth. Essentially any ship that went against Jeff's endgame plan was simultaneously butchered and baited. Queer ships especially were the target of this because Jeff was marketing Teen Wolf at straight, young women an straight, young men and was of the misguided illusion that queer ships would turn off his target audience.

There's an entire list of people with a more logical, reasonable and believable claim to Eli than Scott. But alas the apparent only way Jeff could've given Scallison the ultimate happy family endgame was to brutally kill the one character who did actually deserve to be a loving, present parent, and give his child to them.

Which ultimately means any movie sequel or spin-off series is going to be about Scott and Allison and their difficult adjustment to the modern world and to raising a child. Gag.

(Also its very apparent that Paramount+ funded this is a desperate attempt to rake in new subscribers and money off the back of Teen Wolf, so if you really want to make sure the Teen Wolf legacy dies with this movie, cancel your subscription. Even if only for a few months.)

Look as quick as I am willing to be to excuse this movie as an au, I kinda feel like the Stydia breakup feels like not nearly as out of character as I imagined it would be?? Like tbh I think Stiles getting hurt would be the only reason Lydia would ever leave him and as much as I think he would want to fight for her, I also think that he respects her enough to give her space (especially if he doesn’t know which I think is absolutely the case)

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU HERE. To be clear, this movie is trash and I will not be condoning its existence. With that in mind... let's talk about Lydia, shall we?

Lydia Grace Martin has spent her entire life being the one who got left instead of the one who leaves. Over the course of her life, she has watched people leave whether they wanted to or not. People being gone from her life has become familiar to her, to the point where she clearly became comfortable being lonely in s4 and s5. She watched Scott grieve Allison and probably knows, very intimately, what it was like for him to lose the person he considers to be the love of his life.

Who is the love of Lydia's life? Stiles. The girl who was constantly getting left finally found someone who wouldn't leave her, who would commit to her and stay by her side for better or worse, and when she starts having these dreams, at first they feel like nightmares. One can assume that they're years into their relationship; her fear of him leaving is gone, they're settled and everything is fine. And then these dreams start coming and they won't leave her alone, and she starts to get this itch in the back of her brain that tells her it's a premonition, and at first it doesn't even occur to her to leave because Lydia Martin does not leave. She is the one who gets left, not the one that leaves.

But the fear mounts, and it's like she's living life half frozen. She refuses to get into cars with Stiles, she feels shattered every time she wakes up from the dream, she thinks about what she can do to protect him, all that she would sacrifice, what she could do to ensure that he would be saved. And that's when she realizes that Stiles' safety, his existence, is more important than her happiness.

She knows him well enough now to know that he will never be happy without her, but he will be okay eventually. He'll be fine. He'll exist. If she leaves him, it will be the ultimate commitment to him, the ultimate act of love, because she is choosing his life over her own happiness. And Lydia has never thought of leaving being an act of love before, but as she talks herself into it, she thinks of Stiles with gray hair and wrinkles and suddenly being numb for the rest of her life feels like the best solution.

So because she loves him, she tells him that she doesn't love him anymore, and they both know she's lying but she packs up and leaves regardless. Because she loves him so, so much, she does what everyone in her life has always done to her and goes. It's because she loves him (enough to rip a hole in the fabric of space and time) that she has walk around every day knowing that her person is out there, that she's one phone call away from having him back in her life. But it's because she loves him so much that she never, ever dials.

I only saw spoilers and I'm definitely not watching this movie.

But right now I'm remembering myself back in 2015 trashing and throwing up bc I'm waiting and waiting for Stydia to finally happen (and I got them together a year after) and I'm tired of waiting. And now I'm in 2023 after a movie that was supposed to bring back my nostalgia for happier moments in fandom life, to tell me at least some of the details of my forever most loved OTP's life together.

And instead we got one of the worst writing that ever existed in the history of television and with completely ruined... idk everything?

Bc it's just gave us ruined character arcs, characters development in general and... a queerbait? And this time it's a Destiel level of queerbait?

It is year 2023 and I'm still reading stydia fan fic. With the tw movies coming out it made me really miss stiles and Lydia. the show was trash but man did we really get some some good characters out of it 🌟🤍. The way you wrote Lydia was so special to me 🥺 The breath before is truly one my fav fics of all time. Your stydia fics were the 1st fics I've ever read. I hope you are doing well and thank you for the gems you dropped over the years. ✨🌸
