Happy Monday, friends. I hope you had a good weekend and that it’s sunny where you are. Here are this week’s tulips - they are actually a softer more crystalline pink in real life but photographed darker with my macro lens. I’ve been quietly working on a bit of a rebrand lately and kinda forgot to post about it, but I’ve changed my LadySmith Etsy shop a bit to better reflect my creative life - I wanted my drawings and my jewellery to coexist a bit more completely, if that makes sense? Drawing (painting, printmaking) is an important part of my life, it has always been with me, so I really want my shop to better reflect the spirit of my overall creative work. So, instead of just “singular silver”, my shop now presents “artistic ephemera” as well. This plants+animals gift card set is my first offering of this new endeavour, and I’m tickled pink that a few orders have already left my shop. Hey remember when I used to post jewellery? 😬 Lately it seems that I’m more about monsters than making, but such is the reality of this November. I’ve been taking on a lot of freelance design work in addition to my huge #stupidanimalhybrids project because with the almost-certain next round of lockdowns hovering, I am concerned that my p/t (aka bill-paying) job may get frozen again, so I’m making hay while the sun shines, so to speak. I am very, very tired. Like, in my soul/bone marrow. Retail at Christmas is a special kind of hell on a good year, but this year... *trails off*. Respect and hope to my fellow retail/service workers out there who are staring down the same possibility. Anyhow, it occurred to me today that I never posted this little aquamarine pendant that I finished last month. It sold so quickly I never had a chance to post about it, but I wanted to show it off; I mean, look at that glow! Aquamarines are most often some degree of tropical blue that bares the same name, but I was lucky to get my hands on 2 uniquely cut soft minty green stones at a gem show last year. This one has gone away to its forever home on the west coast, the other is on my bench where it will likely stay - I’m so in love with it I might just keep it. Thank you for supporting stupid animal hybrids during this stupid, stupid year! 😂😘 This year’s calendar features monster/animal mashups and each drawing is accompanied by a little verse or poem (there’s even a terrible haiku! 😂) about each fiendish freak. It is with so much excitement (and so much relief, omg...) to report that my fifth edition of the #stupidanimalhybrids calendar is finally finished and off to the printers! Because this year has been fiendish, this year’s theme is monster-animal mashups, but of course my pal Cyclobster here thinks the book is all about him 🙄. Pre-ordering for this limited edition run will be opening Friday morning at 10 am in my #etsyshop, with the expectation that the calendars will start shipping out early next week.
