Holy balls this was one of my biggest projects yet. Made some stairs for my grandfather/pops to allow him to more easily water his plants, but no allowed drilling/digging, so had to rely on weight and measuring, on uneven rocks. He's 80 so he doesn't want it lasting forever, maybe another 5 years, so mostly used scrap. Going to add a railing another day.
Used a bucketful of old ardox 3.5" nails (probably 30+yo), some scrap 2x4's, 2x6's, and 4x4's he had sitting leftover from my uncle building my pops his second deck. Only new wood was a single 2x10" by 12ft board for the stringers. Second time ever building stairs, first time outside school.
All told only 25cad in new materials, but he did pay my labour, which was nice (9.5hrs in heat (including getting materials and setup in a random yard), but with breaks with my nan sometimes in ac). Hope to put it towards new or used tools. Built solo, zero help.
Also Ardox (spin nails) is the bane of my existence, take way too long, twist worse on a bad hit, harder to unbend, impossible to remove if you mess up (only had to remove 2 thankfully). But will rot/rust less and stay stronger, plus free nails.
Mostly used a circ saw (stairs, 2x6's), sawzall (2x4's and 4x4's), hand saw (edges of corners), and hammer for it.
But in the end I did it, and I feel did it well. Zero rocking, on a very uneven surface. It feels solid. And with no help. Feels amazing peeps, feels amazing
