Flask WTF 'StringField' object has no attribute 'translate'

I am relatively new to Python, and I've been following the Miguel Grinberg Flask Mega-Tutorial.

I have a very simple form which, when I try to submit, I receive the following error:

AttributeError: 'StringField' object has no attribute 'translate'

Here is the form:

I have been unable to solve this problem, but here is what I have looked at.

One concern arose from the fact that PyCharm tells me that it cannot find wtf in flask.ext in the line from flask.ext.wtf import Form. I am using Python 2.7. From research it appears that this is the correct way to import for 2.7. I tried changing it to from flask_wtf import Form and the PyCharm error goes away, but the behaviour is the same.

From the traceback I thought it looked like something has gone wrong with versions and packages. I double check I had everything installed with pip.install and it appears I do - here is pip.freeze from the virtual environment:

This side blog is dedicated to learning and studying French. I started studying French on the 23rd of May, 2023.

I can speak Finnish (native) and English (fluent), and know bits of many other languages, such as German, Dutch and Spanish (all beginner level). Here in Finland we also have to study Swedish from a somewhat young age, and I am no exception.

My reason for studying French is, in all of its simplicity, my will to study in a university in France. Topics that interest me include (veterinary) medicine and pathology.

Hey everyone! 🌟 Can you believe it’s September already? I’m feeling super motivated this month, it’s like a fresh start, and I’m embracing it with all my energy. I started the week with my favorite Pomodoro app, Focus To Do. It’s cool because you can create study groups with friends and have challenges to see who studies the most daily. 📚✨

I’m sharing a pic of my new wallpaper today; it’s simply too cute! I’d love to share it with you all, so if you’re interested, just let me know and I’ll drop the link <3. Not only that, but I also have these little boxes on my desk with funny photos and Taylor Swift quotes. I play a game during my breaks, trying to guess which song the quotes are from. 🎶

Today has been super productive, but I want to be real—sometimes my days aren’t always this great. I think the start of September has me feeling especially energized. I’ve also been enjoying a lot of chai tea with oat milk lately; it’s my new favorite study fuel! ☕️
