The fourth time the awl slipped and stabbed the tender point where his thumb meets his palm, he couldn't help but let out an unnaturally long string of curses.

"Oh, baby," Silena cooed. Beckendorf shot a dark glare at his beloved girlfriend, who just smiled and continued sitting on the bench, looking pretty. He considered just throwing the thing away and hope that sharing Silena with their boyfriend was an acceptable gift, but then he sighed, and continued working. Percy deserved more for their first Valentine's day together.

It wasn't Percy's fault that he, instead of using metal, he tried his hand at leather work. He was the masochistic one.

Beckendorf steadied the leather in his grip, then pressed the tool in the drawn out pattern. It was going to be useful, the studs were going to hide pointy needles Percy could use in a close combat - but hopefully it was going to be pretty too.

Determined to get the whole thing right, he focused completely on his work. He was going to get it even if he had to visit the infirmary after this.

The bracelet took him longer to finish than he wanted to admit, but when he completed it, he assumed it was decent enough. Not his best work, but-

"He's going to love it," Silena said, pressing a kiss on his cheeks. "It is a lovely gift."

Percy wasn't in his cabin, so the lake was it. Nobody was there, only the naiads, and Beckendorf preferred it that way. Even though he had the daughter of Romance herself as his girlfriend, nobody would have believed him to be a romantic, and he liked it that way.

"Hey, Perce," the older demigod murmured, sitting next to his boyfriend.

"Charlie!" Percy beamed, his whole face shining with happiness. "I thought it was your date night," he frowned. Beckendorf frowned in return.

"Yes. Date night with my partners. But before that, I wanted to give you this," he said, offering the bracelet.

"Oh!" Percy exclaimed. "But I- I didn't get you anything."

"It's okay. You being my, our boyfriend is enough."

Percy blushed, looking down in embarrassment. His fingers rubbed over the soft leather and the cold metal studs, a small smile dancing across the corner of his lips.

"You made this?" He asked, blinking up with big, baby seal eyes.

"Hm," Beckendorf grunted.

"It's perfect, thank you!" Percy beamed, wrapping his arms around Charles, squeezing him in a hug. Beckendorf returned the hug, completely surrounding his lithe lover with his much bigger frame.

"I love what you made me," Percy's muffled voice came from his chest area. "But nothing can be compared to your hugs."

Beckendorf's lips curled into a small, secret smile, and squeezed a bit tighter. "Happy Valentine's day, kitten," he whispered warmly.
