Reed was, indeed, too out of it for any comprehensible response. Sera's ttempt to coax him into genuine sleep had been met with a fake response, only pretending to make her happy. The narcotics surging through his system coupled with the accumulated sleep deprivation rendered him a living time bomb for a heart attack.

Reed crumpled to the floor with the slightest guidance, appearing lifeless. With what little strengtg he had, he grasped feebly at Chains' arm

"Lay... Mmmere... Here..." he rasped, the words slurring together as he tried to pull Chain down to the floor with him.

“Reed. Reed, are you asleep???” Chain knew the ghoul wasn’t asleep, but he still shook Reed as if he was trying to wake him.

Reed had been ‘resting his eyes’ while sitting at his desk. He was exhausted after days going without rest, but he’d tried his best to stay awake at all times. He was used to it by now, although that didn’t mean he wasn’t tired anyways.

He opened his eyes to see Chain standing in front of him.

…Chain….?

Although it was blurry. Everything in the room was blurry to Reed due to lack of sleep (and because he was probably a little high,) although something about Chain’s blur was different. He seemed to emit a red glow as well, as if he was a ghost with a physical form.

“Dude, you’re a mess,” Chain grimaced, crossing his arms with a worried expression.

Reed's eyes, heavy and unfocused, crawled upward to meet Chain's. Each blink was slow, his eyes just about rolling to the back of his head. For a few seconds, he gave Chain with a vacant stare, deciding if the figure before him was real or not.

"What the hell..." Reed finally murmurer. The precise way of speaking he usually put on was replaced by a slurred drawl. He was fried in more ways Chain had ever imagined seeing him.

"What's... What's you..." he began, his voice trailing off into a mumble. His eyes fluttered shut, lingering like that for an unnaturally long time. When they finally reopened, his was clouded with confusion once more, his thought completely lost. The question he'd intended to ask vanished, swallowed by the fog of his overwhelmed consciousness.

THE BEST CLOSING NIGHTS IM CRYING SO HAARD

tired of being mean to the movie there were a lot of good parts:

first of all the bros' dynamic was everything i could've asked for, even if there wasn't at much of it as i'd hoped. the entire opening scene was so charming, the separation scene was gut-wrenching (though not as much as if i hadn't seen it in the promos, annoyingly), luigi succumbing and naming mario to bowser but taking the opportunity to truly sell his brother's good qualities, mario going through rigorous training overnight (including eating multiple mushrooms which the movie very much emphasised his hatred of) and willingly fighting a giant monkey to save luigi, their reunion (BIG emphasis on this one i was losing my mind over that hug -- or more accurately those hugs), luigi defending mario from bowser's flames, them absorbing the star power together (i called that one babyyyy!!) and defeating bowser together.

although i feel like it took up a little too much screen time, the mario and dk dynamic was pretty good. mario saving dk in a manner that risked his own life in spite of their rivalry was a neat little nod to the aspect of mario's personality as someone who saves no matter what. the powerups scene was nifty, even if (again) a lot of it had already been spoiled by the promo. they use their own strengtgs to work together, highlighting that both of them truly shine as part of a team (as shown in games like the m&l and paper mario series, and the dk games where he's paired with diddy kong and/or dixie kong).

again much of mario, peach and toad's dynamic was spoiled by the promos (i really should've taken "movie promos these days just show the entire movie" to heart), and regrettably there wasn't much else aside from those between them, but what we got was great. they were silly and fun (and i will talk about them in more detail if i watch the movie again, this time with a more analytical lens).

then there's the production aspect of the movie. the soundtrack didn't interest me that much (movie soundtracks never do, really), but i did like the remixes of game music in there (the airship theme, the smb3 athletic theme, the smb1 overworld and underground theme, the mk8 menu theme, the captain toad theme... there was definitely more but they don't come to mind as of right now) and the nifty references to songs like the super show theme and the dk rap. the animation was stunning, and i kept finding myself looking at everyone's clothes and the gorgeous environment. excellent quality stuff.

the bros reunion hug is SO significant to me actually it was the highlight of the movie for me and i NEED a gif or video clip of it to preserve it forever godddd.

I started a new game from the beginning (no chapter hopping). I had intelligence 5 and strength 4 as my highest skills, but when choosing the 'say nothing focus on using strength' choice in the third/final choice I lose. I tried the other two choices just to check and still lost (i kinda figured since my charm was 3 and i had low aggression). It kinda felt like I was being punished by the game for not building my character 'correctly' because i got the first two right but no matter what, even though i chose the third correctly according to what skills were highest, it still failed me. so I'm not sure if it's a bug or what, but basically the duel is impossible to win if MC's intelligence is their highest skill and strengtg is second highest.

Ah, I see. As currently written, that fight depends at least as much on traits of personality as actual combat stats, as you note. We've gotten a lot of mixed feedback on it; it's something we decided to try in a smaller, optional fight to see how it went.

Given the very ambivalent reception to it, we'll probably be adjusting it in the edit phase, so it has more straightforward, universally-obtainable win conditions. Maybe those will just be normal stat checks like the other combats, or maybe it'll not involve stats at all and just be strategy choices, I'm not sure yet.

In either case, I'm sorry it feels punishing to play! It should hopefully not be like that in the final version, but our priority has been writing forward rather than doing heavy edits like that so far, so rest assured it's definitely on our queue of things to patch up before we submit.
