If It Doesn't Fit....

"The witness said Jenkins parked the car, walked toward a home and never never returned to the car after 45 minutes, so the unnamed witness left, according to the report."

In the vast majority of cases, kidnapping and otherwise, there are components of the case that make no sense to a casual, disinterested observer. Here, we have a witness that was driving with the victim. We can extrapolate that at some level there was a relationship, professional or personal. Yet, after 45 minutes, the witness simply leaves the victim.

The ransom demand? 10-15 pounds of marijuana.

London has quietened down apparently. Can’t imagine young Britons rioting and running amok. If I could travel back in time, I'd like to visit England, a bit before WW 1, or perhaps in the middle of the 2nd WW, or right after, when England was witnessing a changed world outside their sphere of influence, the beginning of decolonization. The London on the telly seems a watered down and slightly depressed version of other great cities of the world, mainly New York. Of course, all this is in my mind, but, it seems to lack New York's spunk.

I saw the worst of everything that Calcutta has to offer, on full display when I went home this time. Big power cuts, construction holding up traffic, dirt, waterlogging, and dacoity (and bloody murder) in my neighbourhood. It's taken 6 months for the city to take on the vibe it had in the late 80s and early 90s, when the old idea of Kolkata was frustrating (perhaps stubbornly beautiful, but frustrating nonetheless). The re-newed idea seems to be hanging by the cranes towering over the city. Aloft, but somehow, suspended in a precarious position. 

My Kolkata number no longer exists, I could not revive it, and I must confess, I am a bit disconcerted by its untimely demise.

london bridge is falling down, my fair lady... so build it up with wood and clay/bricks and mortar/iron and steel/ silver and gold... silver and gold will be stolen away, stolen away, stolen away...
