Was really tempted to get a new case for the trip. My current case only has two wheels and they're shit. Like, one wheel skips every other second -- not one specific wheel, they take turns doing it -- so wheeling that thing over anything smoother than ice has it lurching from side to side as one wheel fucks up and then the other wheel trips. It's a real pain, especially if you're in a hurry. I'd been using it for trips out north west and I've been drooling at the four wheeled cases for years.

But like. It'd cost hundreds of bucks to buy a new case. So I ignored the siren song of The Case.

But. I do need a carryon for next year when I start making weekend trips down south to go apartment hunting. And I'd really not like to deal with those shitty wheels when I'm in London and sleep deprived.

So when Mum made a comment today that the old case was "buggered" I just went. fuck it. @nevertrustanoracle mentioned that there was a sale on at Strandbags so I went there, looking for a bright, appropriately visually offensive case. Because my sleep is a precious little fairy and there is a fair chance that, worst case scenario, by the time I get to London I will have gone 40+ hours without sleep, so I need something nice and bright and unmistakeably mine that even sleep deprived non-medicated me can immediately recognise it and yank that shit off the carousel.

Strandbags had some revolting cases but I'd seen something online that was nice and bright without being revolting so I went to RainbowBags. I didn't actually intend to buy anything from them but WHAT A COINCIDENCE they ALSO had a 30% sale on

so fuck it

bought a couple of fire engine red cases. one in medium size, the other in carryon size primarily for Melbourne, but I'll use it at London too. when I go to London it'll be late spring here and late autumn there -- I can pack a coat, cardigan, gloves and beret in the carryon and put everything else I need on the plane in my airport jacket so that when I get to London I don't have to go rooting around in my big case for something warm to put on. Because I googled it and apparently late autumn temperatures in London are worse than deep winter Sydney temperatures. and Anglesey is gonna be EVEN WORSE. I should buy a beanie next time I remember, the berets won't be enough.

so yeah I did that. Cost a fair chunk of my London budget, but still less than I was dreading -- just under $400. Which is how much it costs to breathe in London for like three minutes (affectionate, despairing).

Definitely not wearing the London winter outfit on the plane tho because my stopover is in fucking Singapore and fuck that.

Traffic-stopping red

I haven’t done a clothes post in a while, and today seems like a good day. I’m pretty fat at the moment, as I’ve been having some trouble exercising. On the plus side, I hate tight clothes, so about 70% of my clothes still fit. I’ve also discovered that the fatter I get, the more I love to wear bright colours. They make me feel happy. I’m sure they make me look enormous, but I pretty much don’t care.

Behind the cut, a red dress, tights, slip on shoes, scarf, handbag, and necklace.

When I’m on the fat side of my natural body-shape range, I tend to like to wear stuff that’s cut with long lines. It helps make my body look more balanced, but it also means the clothes aren’t cutting in anywhere. Comfort is the goal!

To that end, I found these spectacular jersey dresses on Navabi, which tends to be far too expensive, but occasionally has pretty decent deals in the sales.

I picked up this three-quarter sleeve dress with a discount, but it’s actually one of the more reasonably priced pieces on the site even at full price; it’s in a cotton/elastane blend.

Boris Jersey Skater Dress

Isn’t that completely spectacular? All swooshy and red! I love it to bits. It reminds me of a dress I had in kindy, which I wore until I couldn’t squeeze into it anymore.

I teamed this up with viscose-wool blend stockings from Myer (Australia). These are both stretchy and warm, and are in a wine-red marl colour. The red is dark enough that they don’t clash with the traffic-stopper red of the dress. These are my new favourite stockings, and I’ve bought several pairs in khaki green, wine red, and black to last out the winter.

It was a fairly warm day while the sun was out, but it’s starting to be a bit chilly in the mornings and afternoons, so I also wore a pretty little silk scarf with roses on it from Hobbs. It’s even more lovely than in this pic, especially against the bright red of the dress.

Isn’t that just the floatiest bit of delightful flim-flam? Silk is always surprisingly warm, and this scarf is turning out to be perfect for the change of season. It’s just enough to stop the chill without being too hot.

I was going to wear some new licorice-coloured lace-up shoes that I have (they really are the most gorgeous colour -- slightly metallic and a kind of rusty black), but my feet were a bit sore due to a blister, so I wore my most comfy slip-ons instead. These are like slippers, and go with nearly everything without looking too much like sneakers (which is what they are, really).

ECCO Aimee - Granite Green, from Stride Shoes (Perth).

Not quite as elegant as a lace-up Oxford, but I would honestly buy these in six different colours if they had them in colours I actually wear. They are that comfy. It would be worth the money, and then I could just not buy shoes for a decade.

I have a new handbag that got it’s second outing with this outfit. The colour I have is no longer is stock from Strandbags (Perth) where I picked it up in the sales, but this is what it looks like.

Colorado - 3 Compartment Tote

The actual colour combo looks prettier in real life. I added a matching brown leather cross-body strap from another bag I no longer use. I’m still getting used to having so many compartments, but I’m liking it a lot so far. You can cram a lot in if you need to. In addition to the large tote-style sections, it has enough pockets that zip for things you don’t want to risk losing. It’s so lovely to have lots of pockets. Bliss.

The jewellery I chose to go with this is one of the pieces I made at a recent conference on beading, which focused on Indigenous Australian artists. Great conference, and I made several really nice necklaces. However, I’ve just realised I don’t have a pic of the necklace in question. Darn it. To give you an idea, it’s very like the one below, but with bright red quandongs rather than green/blue, and black seed beads and a toggle clasp instead of string. It’s choker length, and went really well with the dress.

And that was me today. I felt fabulous!

Victoria records zero new cases of coronavirus

Victoria has recorded zero new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday morning but hundreds are still on alert for possible exposure.  

The state recorded three new infections in hotel quarantine from overseas travellers, but popular retailers Strandbags and Sketchers in Melbourne’s CBD have been added to the long list of exposure sites.

Both stores are located in the Spencer Outlet Centre in Docklands.  

An infected shopper visited the Strandbags store on May 18 between 12.00pm-12.25pm, while another attended Sketchers on the same day from 12.10pm-12.40pm. 

The Victorian Health Department listed the stores as tier 2 exposure sites, with those who visited the store advised to get tested urgently and isolate until receiving a negative result.

A Coles express, on the Melton Highway in Taylor Lakes, was also added to the list as a tier 2 site on Monday after positive case visited the petrol station store on May 21 between 10.30am-11.00am.
