One thing I haven’t seen much discussion about in Kevin Can F**k Himself is the moment in season 2, episode 7 where the sitcom framing stays after Kevin leaves the room. When it’s just Allison and the affidavit that can ruin Tammy’s life.

The moment when Allison realizes just how easy it is to become a Kevin. To dismiss the consequences of your actions, to put your own needs and opinions above everybody else’s even to the point of destroying somebody’s career.

Because the thing is, Kevin’s not some mastermind trying to get any sort of powerful career or run a crime network. He’s just a regular man. A man who wants to feel above others, believes himself not beholden to anybody’s feelings but his own. Anybody can be a Kevin.

We know the rest of the cast has their flaws. Have their moments of selfishness. But the difference for the majority of them is that they consider the impact they have on others and make efforts to fix their mistakes or alleviate the consequences for others. Kevin never does.

So back to s2 ep7 - it’s Allison being confronted with that same choice that Kevin has. Kevin actively chooses not to care about anybody’s feelings. Allison wavers - it’s tempting to put her needs first, to benefit from Kevin’s behavior that has so long hurt her - and you don’t know if she’ll choose to stay in the sitcom. I think there’s a version of the story where she does choose to stay, and that moment is just long enough for both the character and the audience to consider what that would mean.

I was watching AAA with my dad last night and he was like “oh so Agatha is gonna have to fight Rio” and I’m like “ya… wait how’d you figure that out!??! I hate the Audacity of cis men. this dude has access to our laundry even though he lives in another house bc their washer/dryer is broken. cool great fine. it's on our landlord to fix, which he hasn't in coming up on 2 years. I wouldn't care, but this dude will leave his shit in the washer for HOURS, like rn it's been over 7 hours and usually he leaves them overnight. multiple times he's been talked to about this by our landlord. but he has the fucking nerve to leave out dryer sheets & money, expecting us to dry his clothes for him if we have laundry to do.

so I DID just maybe leave his wet ass clothes on top of the dryer with a note that says "hi :) please get to your laundry in a respectful timeframe for the residents here. leaving money and dryer sheets does not mean we're going to do it for you, as none of us are your mother. thanks!"

got into yet another fight with my mom, again about voting/the election, she said that she’s only voted once in her life and never cares to again because she ‘doesn’t care about politics’, saying that shit almost proudly?? and it set me off for obvious reasons, then she got mad at me for saying it’s because she’s privileged and ‘most’ shit doesn’t affect her directly so she can afford ‘not to care’

I really, genuinely hate the argument that Elphaba was just as selfish to ask Glenda to come with her, as Glenda is asking her not to start a revolution.

Like- the argument is that Glenda has shit to lose, right? That being a revolutionary takes away shit like shelter and food and water-

But. Even if she didn't go with Elphaba when asked. She didn't have to help the wizard. You can make an argument that she was in the perfect position to be groomed into it- but herein lies the issue.

She knows what is happening. She doesn't do a single damn thing to help. She tells elphaba to drop it, to be happy that the establishment chose her. Then refuses to go with. Its heartbreaking BECAUSE she has chosen a life of comfort, and privledge, over helping the animals (a very explicit metaphor for oppressed people) and her best friend, who is now being treated as a villain.

She spreads propaganda. She doesn't do shit from the inside. She actively fuels the fire for her best friends persecution and then cries because she feels bad about it. (While making very very minor chances at humanitizing her to the people WAY too late)

She IS the rich white woman who chose the system over everyone else. Because she was too scared to do anything.

This isn't to say she's an outright villain, because that's not my point at all- I just think we can acknowledge Glenda's privledge in the situation. (Also keeping in mind that she's being coerced by older/more powerful people she looks up to. I'm not ignoring how pivotal that is to the plot, it's just a lot to cover in one post and my focus is on this specific aspect of a take I've seen repeatedly in multiple forms)

10. I think it's just interesting how sometimes a fic will be super popular and another won't be and I have no idea why. Especially my episode style burn notice fics I pour a lot of brain power into and sometimes they don't do well

14. I'd want my transgender Anakin who never falls to the dark side to get a film adaptation and I'd want a trans actor to play him

17. I actually haven't really done much research for my fics? I think I double checked once how long boot camp lasts and went oops it's a lot shorter than I thought and just went well this is a fic I don't have to be realistic lol and I left it alone. Unless you count fact checking burn notice canon b/c I do that a lot to make sure I get their guns right or pull quotes from Michael's voice overs b/c I think it's fun to use them

26. Oh god any of my smut fics. I don't want my family to read them. Only internet friends lol. I did have my brother beta read part of my Anakin fic when we were both working on our writings in a Starbucks together three years ago. My younger brother has an English degree and has one short book published through the university :) and he complimented my writing. He doesn't know my AO3 account b/c I'd shared the google doc with him of my fic

Btw the book my brother wrote is about Lady Luck, a superhero who is common domain. She fights against Nazis and the Japanese internment camps in WW2 in the US and her bestie is queer but he had to take that subplot out b/c they only wanted a novella to publish but I read the original longer book and I love my ally brother :). He's a 6 foot tall white dude with a beard and wears plaid but is gentle and kind hearted and writes superhero stories. Right now he's in volunteer service to build houses for people :)
