#mondaymorning Kita, hanya perlu cinta yg sederhana. Terkadang penuh, terkadang menjauh karna jenuh. Sama seperti ombak. Ada waktunya pasang, ada waktunya surut. Jangan terlalu dipaksakan. Jika tak ingin terlalu kekanan, maka jangan terlalu diayun kekiri. Sederhana kan? Sesederhana pagi mencintai sang fajar. Ia rela menanti dua puluh empat jam untuk kembali dipertemukan. Entah bersamaan dengan datangnya awan, ataupun terpaksa tertutupi kabut tebal. Sesederhana cinta antara senja yg cantik dan malam yg gagah, kala senja menyingkir menyambut malam bertahta. Dan malam tadi, aku ditemani sang bulan. Tanpa pernah sekalipun bertanya kemana perginya sang bintang. Dan kamu juga mengaminkan semua do'a baik yg datang padanya. Selamat menikmati purnama. Untuk aku, kamu, dan purnama berikutnya. . . . © redmoon Page 10th, of April 2017. #suka_iseng #abaikan #tujuannyatumblr #moodbooster #storygraphy #photography #rhaevelling #traveller #travellingcolors #quotebyme #quotesdaily #instashoot #instamoment #instadaily

story trigger warnings: islamophobia, racist attacks
Hmm so Hana Khan Carries On? Let’s review:
Would first like to preface this review with the fact that I’m forcing myself to do a proper one NOT because I didn’t like this book, but because I owe it to myself and to the author (who won’t even read this but someone on booklr might) to write down some or many of the thoughts that coursed through me head while reading. I really enjoyed this book!
(review lifted from my GR/Storygraphy):
I truly loved this book. It made me laugh out loud in some parts, weepy in others, and mostly reflective and somber throughout the story. I love the movie You’ve Got Mail, and this book was so much more than a remix on that tale. I relate very much to Hana’s feeling adrift, her innate need and draw to storytelling and importance of family. There’s a romanctic plot line but surprisingly that’s not what I find myself taking away from this book.
Alrighty!! Now for the ‘ramble’ part of this review, where I take some quotes I highlighted and flush them out with my thoughts and opinions.
If we then grow up to grow apart, have we become ungrateful villains? My parents would say I’m being dramatic. Maybe I am. Then again, the beauty of running an anonymous podcast is that I can be as dramatic as I like.
Nine times out of ten if you’re a 1) female protagonist who 2) doesn’t like or embrace change and 3) have a stubborn streak, I’m in danger of relating to you. Or falling in love. Or both. There’s SO many examples (some I highlighted) that show Hana’s sharp (cutting) wit, as well as her emotional and reasonable reactions to the things that happen and are said to her.
Mom wasn’t freaked that I had been talking to a boy. I should make that clear, because some people have funny ideas about Muslim women.
I don’t claim ignorance in the negative sense, and I don’t spout ridiculous, stupid nonsense. However I’m a Black, Christian American so every time I read Muslim literature I’m always learning. And anything I don’t understand still I Google like a sane person. All of this to say that there’s something warm and fluffy about reading about others cultures and way of life through books and two books in, Uzma Jalaluddin has become one of my favorite others with her vibrant books and the heroines who star in the reads.
Aydin’s words floated back to me: The only thing you can count on is change. I hated change.
See??? See!!!
We made our way out of the airport. Pensive, Smiling, Disdainful, and Athletic—my family. May God have mercy on us all.
This is but a mere taste of Hana’s family and community. The people she loves, who annoy her but have her back, and who and what she holds dearly above most things. Her cousin Rashid, who’s both immature and wise beyond his years and who I couldn’t help but love. There’s also Fahim who makes me wish for an older brother myself. And Kawkab Khala, who I went back and forth on how to feel about, but I can’t deny the strength, conviction and balls she posses and how she inspired and supported Hana in many ways (even as she had her own agenda for visiting Canada).
I blurted out, “I want to talk about family. Not my family. Just . . . family. The way different families work, the dynamics behind relationships, the way that family can both help and screw you up. I want to talk about secret family histories, the stories we keep hidden from the people closest to us, even though they hold the key to everything.”
Aside from being the same age and about in the same mental place in life, Hana is a storyteller, who’s gift is encouraged and nurtured by her parents and spurred on by her father. (side bar, if you read The Ex-Talk, I recommend this book, and if you read Hana Khan, I recommend Ex-Talk). Storytelling runs in my blood too, though rather in radio broadcasting, it’s found a home in video game deving and screenwriting. I completely understood where Hana was coming from and I was so annoyed and crushed on her behalf between her boss Marisa and co-intern Thomas who continued to be obstacles in her way and thorns in her side.
If you see someone struggling, don’t be afraid to reach out, to show them some compassion and maybe even empathy. Tell them you can see who they truly are, underneath their pain. You might find yourself similarly enveloped by clouds at some point. No one knows when the dark days will descend, only that they come for us all.
I think this a good quote to end this ‘”review” on. In the book, there is an attack on Rashid, Hana, and Aydin while they are literally out and about doing absolutely nothing wrong, and later the video recording of the traumatic event is posted on YouTube by Hana’s well meaning but slightly misguided cousin. It turned my stomach and cranked up my anxiety to read how this event had a domino effect, but thankfully in the bitterness there was hope to be gleamed. There’s always going to be racist, evil, destructive people out there with so much hate in their hearts they can’t see straight, but that’s just all the more reason to fight back and stand with others to make sure that hate doesn’t prosper.

Yesterday, I walked past Singapore’s abandoned old airport. I came across an Australian traveller taking in the art deco-inspired architecture and struck up a conversation. I realised how much he knew about Singapore’s architecture, both past and present. It was inspiring how much depth a non-architect cared about his passion, so much as to travel across an ocean to pursue it. So, an ode to this random chap I met. Here’s to his travels, yours and mine. . . . #travel #travelphotography #street #streetphotography #fujifilmasia #fujifilm_uk #fujifilmglobal #fujifilmasia #repostmyfujifilm #streetlensmag #streetclassics #streetphotographer #streetphotographers #streetphotographerscommunity #streetdreamsmag #natgeotravel #natgeo #art #artphotography #abstractphotography #storygraphy #fuegoshots #londonphotographer #singapore #architecture #architecturephotography #blackandwhite #bwphotography #iphonography #everydayphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/B0GKgPQHB3y/?igshid=1ht322l3cmbw2
