           "poor sweet elena. the tragic girl who will go down in history as a martyr. i mean, i’m glad you do, but the lack of survival instinct is really remarkable." and sometimes katherine is really surprised that elena is so different from her. which is per se something good because katherine had feared a doppelgänger is an identical version of every aspect. nonetheless, elena seemed to have some kind of longing for death which is something katherine couldn't quite understand. perhaps, if katerina had known the entire truth of what was going to come, she would have acted similarly. but katerina is long gone.
