Great talk by Jonathan Gottschall, author of The Storytelling Animal: How Stories Make Us Human, at ‘Story 19′ in 2020 on the effects stories have on the human mind.

Much like Cobb (played by actor Leonardo DiCaprio) in Inception describes ideas as a virus, so too are captivating narratives that grip us and change how we see the world. With such power comes great responsibilities or sometimes devastating consequences.

Hari ini, tepat 3 minggu ibu berpulang pada Sang Maha Hidup, setelah 10hari di rumah sakit. Ibu, sosok yang menjadi teman sekamar saya sejak bertahun-tahun. Ibu, yang sering berkata pada saya " Tanpa Dini, ibu ndak bisa ngapa-ngapain". Ibu, yang selalu tidak habis pikir pada kesukaan saya pada jalan-jalan (ibu selalu bilang itu kegiatan mubazir, hambur2in uang). Ibu, yang jika jam 6 petang saja saya belum nyampe rumah, beliau akan wara wiri menelpon. Sekarang, tidak ada lagi teman sekamar saya itu. Dan saya norak tiap malam sesegukan sambil peluk selimut ibu. Saya, yang kata beliau adalah segalanya, sekarang berbaik saya yg blank tanpa ibu, kenyataannya saya buyar tanpa ibu. Saya yang selalu mengajak ibu pergi jalan-jalan, sekarang tidak ada lagi ibu yg akan saya ajak pergi jalan2....dan tidak akan ada lagi ibu di rumah ketika saya pulang.  1. Edited and filed a article with a dog magazine 2. Sent links of articles that ran to experts who were interviewed in them3.
