My sibling and I were talking about the awl remake bachelors and they legitimately forgot what Matthew looked like when I mentioned that I wish he looked more like Marlin. They were surprised when I said “I wish Matthew at least had black hair”. They only remember what he looked like when I said Matthew looked like every Isekai protagonist.

I love Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. But also, tfw you can’t show your Anyone your favorite bachelor/bachelorette bc they’ll 9 outta 10 times say “They look like a child 🤨” , and then you have to launch into the spiel and explain that Yes, they do look like a lot like a child in this specific, odd, chibi art-style, but:

1. The only people who kinda don’t look like children are the people who are already moderately-to-severely unhappily married; or at least moderately-to-severely unhappily laid and absolutely not willing to mingle again; or the priest and police officer with questionable work ethics. And also absolutely not willing to mingle like that. Or with you.

2. Or they’re not even human. They’re some Duck God instead.

3. And there’s kid-ier looking children who are actually considered kids in the game, as opposed to everyone else.

4. And no matter what you do to your avatar, they also look like a child. Despite the age never being specified, they are the same age as the bachelorettes and bachelors. And that age is APPARENTLY of marital age.

5. and working age, and living alone age, and traveling alone age, and house-owning age, and land-owning age, and seemingly drinking age, and wreaking-economic-havoc-by-being-able-to-buy-and-sell-this-whole-entire-shocking-diety-ridden-rock-town age.

So we just gotta do a lot of taking the game’s word here and praying. And hoping that they’ll look a touch older in any future games if they even show up again-

Daryl's Introduction Event

Trigger the event by walking towards Turtle Pond.

You find Daryl examining the trees and pond. 

Daryl: “Hmmm… I see, I see… “

Daryl: “Yes, most intriguing indeed.” 

Daryl: “GAH! Who are you?! Another adversary from the city? I’ll have you know my lab is encrypted. You’ll never crack the code to enter!”

Option 1A: What are you doing?

Daryl: “Hah, I wouldn’t expect you to understand. As an expert in environmental science, I was observing the efficiency of this site. I’m proud to say my observations have confirmed the turtle pond is assisting in flood protection and shoreline erosion control and naturally improves water quality.”

Daryl: “The area also provides natural recreational opportunities for citizens of the valley. The main one is the opportunity to fish. I’m still studying the correlation between this turtle and the appearance of larger and rarer fish within the pond.” 

The Player Character loses an hour for the day but eventually escapes Daryl’s lecture and earns affection. 

Option 2A: I’ve already cracked the code. 

Daryl: “T-THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!”

Daryl leaves the scene with the sound of him crashing into obstacles as he scurries away to protect his inventions. The Player Character does not lose time but loses friendship and affection points.

So I'm playing the new Story of Seasons game

Me: alright, I think I'll romance Gordy for my 1st playthrough.

Game: Gordy is the hardest marriage candidate to romance because he won't accept gifts in his resting pose.

Me: I'll take that challenge.

*skips to Autumn*

Game: okay you got Gordy to 8 hearts, you can propose to him now

Me: *staring wistfully at Matthew being a dumb little nerd* ...nah, I'll get Gordy on my next playthrough...

When I start a new file for awl I’ll figure out which of the guys to marry. My current file I went for one of the girls so I want to marry a guy in this one. Problem is my favorite guy from awl/Ds is completely different in the remake, and if his personality wasn’t changed from the original awl I wouldn’t want to marry him.

I’m standing by that Matthew is just a down grade from Marlin in the design aspect but I don’t know if his personality is better. I loved Marlin in DS cute though so I’m conflicted. They couldn’t even make Matthew look slightly more like Marlin. Give him a mullet or side burns. At the very least they could have had him have black hair
