there are so many cultural differences between the eastern fandom's general characterisation of characters and the west's general characterisation of them but one of my favourite ones has got to be that a lot of eastern fans (esp. in taiwan and japan) view leonard as being extremely smart/well-educated where if you ask the average western fan you'll more likely than not get "oh he's STUPID lmao"
it seems like both seem to agree that he's wise (albeit laughably pathetic and a little masochistic on the eastern side) and there seems to be a general consensus in the west that he's skilled in several areas (Namely cooking) that's also shared by fans of Leonard in the east but the snap-off between academic intelligence like DOD1 Fandom in the east: "He probably aced all his classes and was the smartest kid in his school, everyone looked up to him........" DOD1 Fandom in the west: "is illiterate and probably scared the letter u is some kind of demon"
which is another thing i love that the idea of midgard having public education is SO popular in the east it makes me almost want to check the novel to see if there is because there is a LOT
#gu6chan's musings#drakengard#drag on dragoon#ofc there are exceptions to both in both fanbases this is just a general thing but#THE SCHOOL THING??? its so fun like#i could never imagine midgard having a public education system of any sort looking at it from a more#'medieval europe' type angle but also looking at it from the alternative 'jrpg' angle i almost get it#or at least get why that would be the case LMAO#but really; ive seen two different fanfics from japan from VERY different times (2008 and 2018 i believe) telling almost the same exact#story of leonard being a teacher of sorts before he hermitted himself AND IT HAS ME SO CURIOUS??? because it could be just coincidence#but they were like the EXACT same story lmao#so im just 'is this a cultural difference thing between 'dod as medieval fantasy' vs 'dod as rpg'' or is this like#a literal thing in the side content#BC IF SO????????
