Saying our goodbyes to Sue Bird after announcing her retirement from @seattlestorm @wnba. So many memories from the 6 years of season tickets before life became too busy. #letsgostorm #stormcrazies #suebird #wnba #seattlestorm #makesomenoise (at Climate Pledge Arena) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfnIM8Kpmtjx4HqR30w4BpiXgUg0Ch2bvB6_5g0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Breanna Stewart gave a thoughtful response to Candice Wiggins’ comments about the WNBA
The top pick in the draft hails the league's inclusiveness and says the WNBA's popularity is rising.
On Monday former WNBA star Candice Wiggins told The San Diego Union-Tribune that she had been bullied due to her sexuality throughout her career. She went on to say that the league was struggling, saying that tickets are being given away and not used, rather than true attendance.
Breanna Stewart, the top pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft appeared on SportsCenter on Thursday to discuss Wiggins’ claims, but wanted to further clarify some things that didn’t air. You can read the tweets she posted here, but here is a compilation of what she had to say.
Thank you, @SportsCenter + #TheSix @jemelehill @michaelsmith for having me on. It was impt for me to join my W colleagues in speaking out. I wanted to share some things we talked about that did not make the cut #WNBA #TheSix. I am not denying Candice her experience. I am truly sorry for any pain she has endured, but my time in the W has been very different.
I have found the WNBA to be one of the most affirming places you can be. Our league has been a leader on inclusion + progressive action. We also are young, but growing. The @WNBA can share specific business metrics, but there is no evidence to support we are not making gains. The #StormCrazies and all the little girls waiting after the game ARE evidence enough for me that what we do matters.
Let’s worry less about if 98% is “accurate” and ask why: Why does anybody care? Even if it was 100%, WHY DOES IT MATTER??? Second why: Why is this story getting so much coverage? Why are outlets who never write about us picking THIS 1-source story up? Regardless of her personal experience, her broad based stereotypical claims amount to an attack on the LGBT community and WNBA. I will not stand for that and shame on any outlet that would push a story with only 1 source making broad statements that do real harm. People must be accountable for the things they say. Words matter and #FactsMatter.
I want to make sure that every little girl understands that basketball is a safe place for her to be herself and achieve things. I see this as an oppty for dialogue. Like we stood with #BlackLivesMatter I am proud to represent a league unafraid of impt conversation.
WNBA players’ union president Nneka Ogwumike said the following in response to Wiggins’ claims:
Loyalty + diversity + inclusion as cornerstones of the @TheWNBPA, spot on @Nnemkadi30 http://pic.twitter.com/Rvh4fNJEaO

Stormcrazies are thrilled to know things are moving along as planned!
For the second consecutive year, Sue Bird spent her fall rehabbing from hip surgery. After having her right hip labrum repaired following the 2011 season, Bird had the same surgery on her left hip - which left her playing through pain late in the regular season and into the playoffs - in October. Bird is back on the court and scrimmaging against players at her alma mater, the University of Connecticut, in preparation for reporting to her overseas team (UMMC Ekaterinburg) at the start of January for the second half of the Russian and EuroLeague seasons.

There wasn't a glitch on the score board... The Virginia Mason Injury Report showed NO ONE injured and with LJ back, Coach Agler had ALL 11 players at his disposal... A first this season! He must have felt like a kid in a candy store! The result: a devastating blow to the NY Liberty. Big W that made all Stormcrazies forget the Indiana buzzer winning basket of the previous game.
Let's face it, the Storm are playoff bound even when LJ missed half of the season. That says a lot for the work done by the coaching team with strategy set during the trading period and the unsurmountable effort put by every player on our roster. They held it together despite the challenges faced by having to create synergy/chemistry, read each other's moves on the court, learn Agler's play system and the numerous injuries that plagued them. It is a matter of time before we get over .500 and clinch that #4 playoff spot. Go Storm! It is great to be a Stormcrazy!

After the worst start in team history, this is just what StormCrazies needed to read before tonight's game...
It's crazy how accomplished the Storm are. At point guard, Sue Bird, college player of the year for the undefeated UConn Huskies in 2002 and seven-time WNBA All-Star. At shooting guard, Katie Smith, member of two title teams in the WNBA and the all-time leading scorer in professional women's hoops. At center, Ann Wauters, five-time European player of the year. Coming off the bench, Tina Thompson, four-time WNBA champ and the leading scorer in league history. And returning after the Olympics, Lauren Jackson, winner of MVP awards on three continents, including three times in the WNBA. Four of these five players (Bird, Jackson, Thompson and Wauters) were the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft. An overlapping group of four (Bird, Jackson, Smith and Thompson) was named among the top 15 players in league history last year. It's hard to think of any team in any league, ever, whose members collectively rank so high in the history of its sport. Maybe the closest: the 1977 New York Cosmos, who brought together Pele, Franz Beckenbauer and Giorgio Chinaglia.

"Those [Storm Crazies] are the people you respect the most," Taurasi said. "There's nothing like a die-hard fan. I'm one. I've got my teams that when I go watch them play, I'm on them. Don't come into Staples. I'm on them. The Key really is a special place to play at. No matter college, men's, women's, it's a special place to play. You feel that energy and that momentum and it's really cool."
