This is my "well that was dumb" look. WTH! It was hot as balls out! I finished. Not the race I wanted to run when I signed up, but I ran/walked it and I finished it. This marathon is dedicated to the 22 plus 1. My bib number couldn't have been more perfect, #221 coming across the line in about 5 hours and 51 minutes (turn those fives around and you got 2s you know!). There were tears but not for the pain. There was cussing but not for the distance left. There was a constant ache in my heart but not because it was beating too fast. Here's what I learned as so traversed that concrete jungle of bridges and the island. ... Survive. It's all we have to do every. single. day. Until we reach our personal finish line. It might be ugly sometimes, but keep fighting the fight. Keep your chin up. Put your shoulder into it and drive on. For now, I will be driving on from a recline or my bed. Peace out peeps. I'll be sleeping for the next 6 days. I love ya all. The messages and comments - it helped! 💕💕. I love my peeps that came to support me today. Knowing you were at the finish line waiting meant so much more than I could ever tell you. Crossing the finish line with my girls on each side, priceless 💗. Till we meet again marathon challenge. It might be awhile, but I'll be back, someday. When I returned from Iraq in the year 2008, I, like most veterans who thought that everything will be good. I tried to take myself to work and rebuild their lives, trying to not focus on its deployment. This worked for a while, but eventually I pushed the people who loved and who cared about me. October 2008 my PTSD. I stopped to chat with their friends from the air force, stopped going to work. I totally isolated myself and tried to commit suicide, when in fact I had to ask for help. I went to the VA, which is located in the North of Chicago, where they had one of the best PTSD treatment centers in the country. I was lucky enough to have taken the treatment there. I would like to say thank you SMSGT. Cox , all my family and friends for help. Now I made a good career in the Marine Corps, as well as help their comrades from the air force, which has still not recovered from this annual deployment. Last long run done today and one week from the starting line of a marathon for which I am seriously underprepared. I have missed *a lot* of training plan workouts and runs during these past 16 weeks. Less so in these last six weeks or so, but still quite a few. A small part of me, the more sane and reasonable part, is considering dropping down to that half yet. I can decide at packet pickup the day before. But the rest of me doesn't want to take the easy way out. The rest of me wants to make this a tribute, for Keith, for suicide awareness in general, for the 22 plus 1 who tragically end their silent suffering everyday, and for those of us who are left behind to make sense of it. I am not sure I will finish sans injury. Heck I am not even 100% sure I will finish. Having a whole in my heart has made every training run so much harder to even start and more exhausting to finish. I signed up for this race at the beginning of the year with a goal to BQ my time. Today, last pre-race long run done, I can only hope to finish and meet or perhaps slightly best my barely sub-5 hour time from 10 years ago. How the course of life before me can change so much in just a decade is beyond my ability to comprehend or explain.
