"Stop Killing Farmers"
Seen in Bulacan, Philippines.
In the Philippines, there have been hundreds of documented killings of peasants, farmworkers, and fisherfolk related to land dispute cases and agrarian reform advocacy since former President Duterte took power in July 2016.
These attacks are not coincidental instances of brutalities, but are part of a systematic program by the most rabid fascist elements in the government.
On December 4th, 2018, the former President issued Executive Order 70, forming the National Task Force to Eliminate Communist Armed Conflict. Since then, this publicly funded task force has released unsubstantiated statements accusing legal organizations and even elected officials of being terrorists. It has consistently red-tagged KMP and other poor people’s organizations as “front organizations” of so-called “communists-terrorists” through press statements, public banners, leaflets, and other activities.
The threats precede arbitrary arrests and killings, followed by more accusatory and mocking statements from officials and government spokespersons.
Memorandum Order 32, in particular, worsened political killings, militarization, and other human rights violations in Negros, Bicol, and Samar regions.
Worse, misuse of the Anti-Terror Law, allows any criticism and opposition to government policies to be construed as acts of terrorism and lead to arrest.
I'm the Philippines, widespread repression and killing of farmers fighting for their right to land is a state policy.

Oppression of the society and refusal of marginalized communities must be eradicated. Injustices are rampant in today's authoritarian system, thus resulting in atrocities. #EndStateFascism #JusticeForSagay9 #StopKillingFarmers

Yesterday, the House of Representatives in the Philippines passed the Anti-Terror Bill into third reading. It now only needs one signature to become law - Duterte's.
For people outside my country, the signing of this law is essentially an infringement of our rights. It endangers free speech. This allows us to be arrested, imprisoned, or KILLED because of posting DISSENT against our own government OR donating to organizations they do not sponsor! It aims to silence us all f4om calling out the government's abuse of power which includes the following:
1. Releasing 300Billion Pesos emergency funds and powers to President as response to the pandemic. WE HAVE NOT SEEN IN 3 MONTHS OF LOCKDOWN WHERE THIS WENT.
2. To this day, we do not have any form of Mass Testing or contact testing. Our coronavirus is reaching 20,000 with no visible action from our government. What's more, there is suspicion of data manipulation happening with more than 7,000 backlogs that one day they suddenly said was "resolved." Yes. As if those vanished into thin air.
3. The police brutality throughout quarantine has been rampant. An individual who suffered from PTSD named Winston Ragos was MURDERED on the streets for "carrying a gun." He was not. He also had a quarantine pass.
4. They are moving with the Jeepney Phaseout and have imprisoned 6 union leaders who were fighting their fellow drivers WITH NO CASE - making it an illegal detention. The phaseout aims to replace traditional Filipino jeeps with modern PUVs without considering these drivers are from impoverished communities who only have this as their source of income. They want them to pay 1 Million Pesos for these modern vehicles, which they don't have and this would take away their livelihood.
5. The Military has been terrorizing the lands of our indigenous Lumads for YEARS. Now, their presence put the indigenous who have no coronavirus cases in danger of being exposed to it.
6. In the midst of the pandemic where information is CRUCIAL to us all, they have SHUT DOWN THE BIGGEST MEDIA NETWORK OF THE COUNTRY. This is the only network that could reach very far provinces and many Filipinos who would not have even known measures to prepare for the virus without them. This has resulted negatively when a storm hit us a month ago as the residents were barely aware of the storm!
7. They have allowed ILLEGAL POGO (online gambling) services from China to continue operating and have been PRIORITIZING mainland Chinese citizens to be tested for Coronavirus without doing anything for US, their own citizens. A big disclaimer: we are not against the Chinese but we ARE AGAINST THEIR GOVERNMENT who are relentlessly saying that we are THEIR province, been establishing businesses here that don't actually seem to follow our law (the pogo), BEEN STEALING OUR SAND, DESTROYING OUR ISLANDS, MINING OUR MOUNTAINS. ALL OF THESE, ILLEGALLY. WE KNOW WE ARE BEING COLONIZED. A G A I N. And the government SEEMS to be in on this.
8. They have been KILLING FARMERS in the Negros region who have been fighting for the rights of their lands! This has been ongoing for YEARS. They tag them as terrorists, the same to which they will do to all of us.
9. To this day, they have not taken accountability for the MILLIONS of lives they have killed through the drug war (extra judicial killings). And they are going kill again.
It hurts me to say that I may have even missed an issue or two but ALL of these have been ONGOING THE WHOLE PANDEMIC.
PEOPLE ARE DYING. COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION IS IMPORTANT. DISSENT IS IMPORTANT. They are taking away our voice! I'm simply posting this to ask for HELP in spreading the word. We might not be able to do that any longer.
Please also feel free to correct me should I have any wrong information posted.

STOP KILLING FARMERS!
As we celebrate Peasants’ month, we should bring forth the continued struggle of the farmers, and persuade everyone to act against injustices, in unity with the farmers.
The ones who feed the nation, are struggling to feed their own families, and suffer from exploitation by the ruling classes. Until now, hundreds of farmers are being killed across the country. Furthermore, they suffer the most from the anti-poor policies and unjust doings of the Duterte regime, such as TRAIN law and inflation.
The farmers’ call to end the inhumane distribution of land continues. They also call to end the political killings, not just of farmers, but to all activists and countrymen who try to voice out their demands for a more peaceful society.
Lastly, the farmers call the government to act on the decades-long legislation promised to them, and stop the abuses imposed on them.
Sagay Farmers Massacre. Digital painting. October 20, 2018.

A Nighttime Story
I remember the sun was high that midday, I remember how it hurt when hunger pangs Father returned from the fields with nothing Not a single grain of rice was on his hands
I remember the sun was high that midday, I remember how the heat scorched the earth How the harsh drought robbed us of bounty Of anything we could put above the hearth
I remember the sun was high that midday, I remember the noise, the comrades calling "We need to demand for the aid!" they say "Act now or we all die in hunger!" they say
I remember the sun was high that midday, The march to the capitol, the calm, then the fray, I remember clutching to my father's hands We scampered from the scuffle, ran away
I remember the sun was high that midday, I remember father fell to the ground that day I remember the words said unto me as he lay Dying from a bullet wound on the chest, he say:
"Child, tell our story to your sons and daughters So my blood would be avenged someday"
I still remember, children, I still remember How I swore to the heavens, at the lords and their men- The remorseless, how that day was not ours nor theirs, And how the night just like ours, will give an answer.

This poem is dedicated to the martyrs of the Kidapawan Massacre on March 30, 2016. Two years and some months of no justice. As an unjust agricultural economy that maintains a feudal character ruled by antagonistic landlords, massacres of peasants by the state armed forces have riddled Philippine history. But the struggle for land, rights and justice could only intensify with these atrocities.

Over 100 Filipinos gathered today, calling to stop the killings in the Philippines, calling to cut funding of U.S. military aid to the Philippines. Over $185 million dollars have been sent in the form of U.S. military aid to the Philippines, which help assist the US-Duterte regime in occupying & militarizing ancestral lands, extrajudicially killing our people through the form of the drug war, and red tagging/surveying activists of all forms. We as the youth, have a duty to fight for the liberation of our people, no matter where in the world we are.
