Chapter 3.4: 0.16 Years

Year 1, day 60: We need to get out of here. That’s the short of it. We have no idea where to look for Jiggies and I’m getting really tired of dinosaurs. Who knew when T-rexes would start showing up.

Both Terra and Piddle tried their hand – or paw or whatever – at removing the boulder blocking the main entrance, but to no avail. Terra’s strength wasn’t enough with whatever wedged the boulder in. Piddle tried using Water Pulse, but if that had any effect, enough to open a way out would take the entire decade.

Bitbit could actually fly without needing to find a Flight Pad or use Red Feathers (though he also had the Beak Bomb attack which did), but even though he could get over the mountains surrounding the valley, he had no way of carrying Terra. My backpack refused to resize to fit her.

That left braving the train station tunnels to Glitter Gulch Mine, moving to Witchyworld, or hoping the Banjo Switch responded to “bears” in general. Today, we tested the last of those.

Getting Terra up to the Stomping Plains was a little tricky to figure out. The Warp Pads still existed, thankfully, and they considered us a “party” for the purposes of “activating one for someone else to use.” The fires in the Bonfire Cavern weren’t a problem with Piddle’s Water Pulse, then he turned her into a frog so the rest of us could easily jump her over. Honestly, being able to turn her into a lightweight frog was the best transport option we had for her at this point.

“Wait wait, if we can turn her into a lightweight frog,” Bitbit exclaimed, “why can’t we do that and I can carry her over the mountains?”

“Because strong as you might be to be able to fly with a bear, you can’t fly with all three of us at once,” I replied. “It’d take multiple trips and it’d likely get overtaxing really quickly.”

“Ah ah...”

So there we were, looking out over the vast plain with the footprint indentations in it… and the Stompadon doing its thing of stomping down the entire place.

“How do we get over there without getting flattened…?” Piddle asked.

“I know I could roll or probably burrow my way over...” I said.

“Burrowing wouldn’t work,” Terra said. “The soil’s too compressed. No, I have better.”

“Wonderwing?” I asked.

“More like Wondershell, really,” Bitbit commented.

“As long as everyone stays close, the protection should extend to the rest of you,” said Terra. “Get ready; we’re going to have to be fast.”

It didn’t take long at all to get across the plains and get to the other side, I mean we were an expert exploration team, though it was very harrowing having a massive foot come down on you. The switches were there, at least. I had Bitbit get off Terra’s back and asked her to stand on the switch with the bear face. She did, and the switch activated and the door opened!

It was at this exact moment that I remembered that not only did this lead to a dead end, but that dead end was the icy side of Hailfire Peaks, when Terra was now fully cold-blooded, and her human form outfit couldn’t be less prepared for cold temperatures.

You could cut the awkwardness in the silence afterwards with a knife before Bitbit said, “Y’know... y’know... if you bothered to mention that before, I could’ve pointed that out before we got all the way over here.”

“Can we just say I’m ashamed enough already?!” I cried. “C’mon, let’s take that tunnel there and get back...”
