Cyril had been tinkering with a bit of salvaged magitek for some time now. He was often quiet whenever he worked on such little projects, maybe humming some obscure tune quietly to himself in the back of his throat now and then. He was itching for a cigarette, it practically felt alien to be working with machinery in his hands and yet not have the familiar scent of smoke wafting about. But Elizabeth was with him today, and he knew she’d scold him for smoking. She always did. And then naturally the smell was unpleasant and obtrusive to her, so he resolved to keep his cigarette case tucked away, albeit rather forlornly, in his pocket.

Steady hands felt about the treated metal and only slightly rusted workings of an outdated carburetor. One of the many little pieces he and Elizabeth had found on their... excursion. That’d been some time ago, now, but he’d slowly been going through and cataloging each piece, checking and rechecking serial numbers and the amount of wear endured. Meanwhile Elizabeth was content to either scoot up against his shoulder on the workbench next to him and quietly watch whatever he was doing, or else bury her nose in a tome that she deemed more interesting.

He didn’t budge when the first little poke found his ribs, but when another one followed it in a rather impatient manner he smiled. He shook his head and set down the trinket, straightening up and looking down at the woman beside him.

“Very well. You have my attention, love. What is it?”
