I’m skipping over several pages of action here because I know I’m gonna have a VERY hard time cutting down the backup story in this issue, but anyway: Nicole is unable to stop Sonic and Ash from stealing the Chaos Emerald she currently has in her possession and giving it to Mogul as his ransom. Mina, Mighty, and Tails are freed from Mogul’s control and saved from a terrible fate, but in exchange Mogul is now powered back up, and all of the villains who’ve been cooped up in the detention center are now free. Sonic tries to remain optimistic in the final page after this, but he’s been soundly beaten this time

What’s most interesting here is Mogul’s change in strategy. No more attempts at attaining godhood and getting thwarted by Sonic or a grotesquely buff Tails. The thing Mogul has over other villains in the Archieverse isn’t Chaos power, it’s patience. The guy is thousands of years old. He’s immortal. He knows how to play the long game. And he also knows that he’s going to outlive Sonic and all of his friends if he simply waits. So that’s what he’s going to do. We haven’t seen the last of him, of course, but his tactics are changing. No more brute force

I know I shouldn’t be surprised at this point by Ian’s ability to make lame characters interesting, but man, I really like his take on Mogul here. He didn’t even radically reinvent him. It just feels like someone’s finally playing to the guy’s strengths

Mogul Rising (Part Two: Devil's Due)

Sonic struggles to fight against Mina, Mighty, and Tails at once, as Mogul speaks to him through them. He angrily tells Mogul to let them go, and when Mogul mocks him for not listening earlier that day Sonic rightfully points out that Mogul didn't even begin to explain his own position in any amount of detail, instead just basically saying "haha, surrender." Ash, alerted by the noise and the empty bed, appears in the doorway of Freedom HQ and seeing the chaos, leaps in to grab Mina, not realizing she's being controlled.

Abruptly, all three mind-controlled friends break off the fight and run away in opposite directions. Ash is upset and confused as to why Mina would act so strange, so Sonic explains what's going on and then offers to bring him along to interrogate Mogul, something which Ash immediately accepts if it will let him save Mina. Once they get back to New Mobotropolis Sonic furiously orders Mogul to tell him where his friends are, and Mogul happily obliges.

Both Ash and Sonic are horrified, especially with the knowledge that Sonic wouldn't be fast enough to save all of them in time, something Mogul gloats over before offering them a deal - he'll bring them all back unharmed, if Sonic brings him the Chaos Emerald currently being kept within the city. Sonic, seeing no other choice, grimly agrees, before rushing away with Ash to sneak into the castle, into the chamber where the emerald is. Nicole, realizing they're trying to steal the emerald but not knowing why, starts putting up barriers trying to stop them, but they dodge without breaking stride and nab the emerald, rushing it back to Mogul as a montage shows the three puppets coming closer and closer to their deaths…

Nicole hysterically asks Sonic why he would do such a thing, and Sonic and Ash explain why they didn't really have much choice. Mogul, tiring of their conversation, uses his magic to force Nicole's hologram to dissipate before knocking Ash aside and telekinetically grabbing Sonic. To Sonic's shock, Mogul immediately announces that he has no further need of his new Fearsome Foursome and "releases" him from his service. Why? Well, apparently, he's realized one key rule of this universe - Sonic always wins.

With that, Mogul teleports himself and the other prisoners away, and Sonic and Ash return to Freedom HQ, which the three formerly-enslaved individuals have returned to. Ash comforts Mina while Sonic talks to Tails and Mighty. They're both embarrassed at what happened, Mighty even admitting he now knows how Knuckles must feel, but Sonic reassures them both, saying that while the villain may have won this time, they're going to get their chance to strike back sooner or later.

Hey, speaking of Knuckles! He's having a pretty bad time of it as he flies over Albion in secret, watching the last of his people work to rebuild the city while blaming himself for everything. He's glad that at the very least Remington has been returned to normal, but can't bear to face his own family or anyone else, believing that for now they'll be better off without a Guardian looking after them. He uses a warp ring to leave, but Kneecaps notices him and babbles, and Lara-Le barely manages to catch a glimpse of him before the warp ring disappears. Man, poor Lara-Le. I miss when she was a much more major character, to be honest. She's so sweet, and doesn't deserve any of the terrible things that have happened to her. Knuckles warps himself to the oasis in the Sandopolis desert, where the entire dingo army has set up camp. With General Kage gone, General Helmut von Stryker, who has apparently been hanging out here all this time, has once again taken control of his people, and upon seeing Knuckles curtly informs him that his people are thriving here, and expect to make their way back into the heart of Angel Island before long.

Knuckles, I'm sorry, but what the hell are you thinking?! Look, I agree that the dingoes have been wronged by the echidnas over time, but have you forgotten that not long ago these guys turned into literal Nazis as soon as Eggman gave them a chance to? Did you completely miss the fact that they are the ones that ran the concentration camps that killed off ninety percent of your people?! I would think that that alone has completely robbed them of any chance at redemption. Like, Knuckles seriously seems to think here that Kage is the sole mastermind behind the echidna concentration camps, but meanwhile here in the real world we kind of all agreed that "I was just following orders" wasn't a good enough excuse for all of the grunts who served in the Nazi regime, and I would think the same should hold here. Do you really want to welcome an entire army of people back into the heart of the island who not two months ago were gleefully torturing and slaughtering your people? Again, we are talking about a literal Nazi allegory here, this isn't me projecting, these guys were literally modeled after the Nazis. I think forgiveness and "live and let live" is not the right choice here, especially if Knuckles is already feeling so guilty about hurting his people, because the dingo regime hurt his people far more than he ever did during his single day as Enerjak.

Jesus Christ. Anyway, Knuckles returns to the main part of Angel Island, hiding in the bushes near "Shrine Isle," which is apparently what we're calling the tiny floating island that houses the Master Emerald shrine. I guess everyone just decided that keeping it blatantly out in the open is the best plan now, so the Chaotix have worked together to build a bridge over to it for easy access. Ray had spotted Knuckles using a warp ring earlier but was unable to follow him, and Julie-Su says sadly that if he doesn't want to be found, he won't be. Knuckles, watching from within the bushes, hopes they'll go away now that the bridge is finished, but Rouge's voice from behind him interrupts his brooding, asking if he plans to just go back to being a hermit once again. He's irritated, not wanting to talk to her right now and insisting that everything bad that's happened on the island only happened because he left, but she presses on, reminding him that with Eggman's sheer power and Finitevus' unpredictability, the island likely would have been attacked and decimated anyway and it's not solely his fault. Knuckles gets angry at this, yelling that the Brotherhood's methods protected the island successfully for hundreds of years and he's the only one (besides Athair) who's really broken tradition.

Well, good on you, Rouge! Knuckles thinks on it for a moment, watching his friends play around next to the shrine, and then concedes the point, deciding that he should protect everyone he can after all. He walks out to greet everyone, who are overjoyed to see him… and then Rouge smirks from her hiding place, murmuring to herself about how gullible Knuckles is and how she can't wait to "wrap him around her little finger." Oh come on, Ian, really? Look, if there's one character I think Ian has not at all figured out yet, it's Rouge. He seems to see her as this scheming, callous, manipulative bitch who's only interested in treasure and breaking up relationships for fun. Hell, Penders wrote her better than Ian currently does, and that's saying something. In the games, yes, Rouge is manipulative and a bit shady, but she's not at all a bad person. After her experiences with Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2, she explicitly mentions how she's been influenced to become less materialistic and to search for "something better" in life, and by the time of '06, she's nothing but a positive influence on those around her. Sure, she's still not above using shady or illegal means to get her way - she is part of Team Dark, after all - but in general her morals always end up lining up with those of the heroes, and she's intensely loyal to those she considers her friends. There's hints here and there within the games that she may have a thing for Knuckles, but to be fair, there're just as many if not more hints that she's not into anybody and only flirts at all to get an edge over others. Adding in this little bit at the end where she's acting all scheme-y while watching Knuckles just makes her seem like this terrible and insincere person when that's not what her character is supposed to be like at all. To be fair, Ian does get better at writing her later on, particularly when she finally starts being paired up with Shadow as a team, but for now, I'm definitely pretty salty at how she's being treated here, considering she's one of my all-time favorite Sonic characters across all canons.

Tonight might not have been one of these nights, when he noticed them all but as he was walking down the road to his apartment, a certain aura attracted him, luring the male into a small yet busy street, filled with booths and people trying to sell souvenirs. The presence came closer and closer, he smelled something familiar yet he failed to name the scent. Only then, Yuya noticed the person in front of him dropping an item and he was quick to pick it up. "Excuse me, you just dropped this?" Oh, were they a foreigner?

Gymnophoria - The sensation that someone is mentally undressing you. She read that some time ago and now the word snuck up on her again, very much like his gaze. Quietly yet with such an intensity that it made the mermaid shiver. But distraction was greeting her through the actions and words of the crew members, most of them rather talkative and friendly by now. And what a treat it was to hear from vampires, druids and - was that a medusa? THE Medusa perhaps? She surely covered her snake hair pretty nicely. Yet, distractions only lasted as long as he had been distracted too and now nothing stood in their way, Nachim obtained direct view on his new object of interest. A pretty mermaid with a sassy mouth. Who really would like to know just how many piercings were hiding underneath the clothes. She really wanted one herself. A piercing, all she wanted was a piercing.

Swift steps brought her closer to his chambers, what was it that the captain wanted to tell her? No, Hana seemed pretty certain he would not discuss the next adventure with her but when beckoned like this, the mermaid needed to know. As if she was a magpie and saw something shiny. Hana somehow ignored the feeling from earlier, the sensation of having layer by layer of clothing removed by invisible forces and told herself this was merely to satisfy her curiosity. Simple as that. "Hello? You wanted to tell me something?"

How did these age so well??? I remember lil' old me in like the early 2010s being absolutely blown away by how good this looked, but when I look back at it more than a decade later they still hold up incredibly well. Like what the fuck that's fascinating.

For reference, Prince of Persia came out in 2008. Its fully rendered cutscenes looked like this

It didnt look bad for the time but holy shit Sonic Unleashed had some astonishing rendered cutscenes.

Okay finally got around to organizing my thoughts on Reigen MAX131 after hyperventilating for a good while

The yellow cover made the whole experience (reading session in bed with a friend, pounding on pillows and screaming together) like opening and popping a lemon-flavored candy in our mouths. Strong, saturated, and bright. It really was a rollercoaster, seeing all the new and changed dynamics between everyone, especially with Tome added to the party and bringing in a fresh perspective. We were in a sense rediscovering the characters we’ve gotten to know over the course of sixteen books, and Tome’s new perspective made it all the more like a short and sweet visit into their lives.

Onto my overall impression of the book: I really felt seen. It’s weird to have this feeling from a comic book, but the read was strangely personal. It may be because I could relate to a lot of the human tendencies mentioned in the book. There’s something comforting about private thoughts and tendencies being represented in a medium, and the story casually moving onto a different subject matter. It says that the thing you see yourself in is simply just one of many in a bustling collection of interesting components, not a bottomless pit you have to deal with on your own. Especially since the medium for this story is a simplified comic, it acted as a nice pull toward the surface.

Some of the ideas/private tendencies that I was surprised to see represented:

-Making a mental note to look things up when you get home

Roshuto and Jodo getting swept up by Reigen’s random coining—they both make a mental note to look things up in private instead of asking him outright.

-Looking at people as a character trope and thinking your life is different

Tome observing the girl with the bread. It was a hilarious opening by the way, and I loved how Reigen could fall in pace with Tome’s ranting ahaha Reigen and Tome have such an organic dynamic. It might have something to do with their observation skills/the way they relate to others. It’s also just hilarious to see them together (Tome slamming down a cup Drink this tea Reigen!!!)

-Realizing that you’d have to work hard to fit into a group conversation

Tome with her friends and letting the usual subjects of the group conversation take priority over what really sparks her interests.

-That awe in realizing that the people that you thought worked on a different level actually felt the same discrepancy

It turned out that Tome’s friends all had sth they were keeping locked away in a box. I could really relate when Tome asked her friend to reveal more of what really sparks fire in them. It’s that excitement from actually getting to know people and your world widening. Having the same interests isn’t what’s really important when it comes to connecting with people (though it is really cool when they do share your interests). It’s when you can see them as a subject similar to yours navigating these different levels that the connection really solidifies. And this whole process is so fun.

-+Awe and then the slight embarrassment that follows when you realize that you thought you were the only one feeling the discrepancy

Tome thinking: ‘why was I so full of myself’ after she has that talk with her friends.

- Your previous image of a person(formed by rumors and your assumptions) dissipating when you actually get to talk to the said person

Tome deciding to talk directly to Hoshida instead of talking behind his back. She got to hear the full story. We think that we can talk more honestly when the subject of the conversation isn’t present since we won’t have to keep up a social face, but this shows how we can get at the truth/the real story when we talk directly with people. Tome got to move on with the story and have more authentic experiences instead of remaining in her head/the rumors from her friend group.

A lot of these are tied to Tome’s perspective, and I’m glad that a young female character got some spotlight this time.

Also. I’m just really happy for Reigen. The book ends with the same scene he first appeared in (I, Reigen Arataka, will take on the task!). It’s a contrast from how Mob’s series used the ending scene (Mob laughing aloud for the first time), and I love how this emphasizes that Reigen’s change is more internal. It’s not really visible in the social face he keeps up, but his growth and change manifest in the way he interacts with people around him. There are still various things going on in his life, even with Mob away...there are people who stick around and people who just randomly walk in. He’s still a conman but he knows when to talk truthfully (he revealed himself to Tome when he saw that she was put in danger trying to take after him) and to accept the people who stick around (Dimple, Serizawa, Tome...more on Mob later). Oh, and I really liked how the spinoff rode off of Tome’s perspective; we were just making a visit into Reigen’s already stable (and changed) life. Just a visit, not a journey. This keeps with the theme of looking for special things within your realm without having to reach too far.

I was confused why Mob wasn’t getting screen time for a good way into the book but now I love how everything played out. While Tome’s perspective acted as a vehicle for us to get a look into Reigen’s life, Reigen’s relationship with Mob seems to have advanced without us having to check in. Their relationship has been running for longer than his relationship with Tome (which makes up most of what we get of him in the book), and it represents how there are more sides to Reigen. Reigen shares something very private and strong with Mob that doesn't need further validation in this spinoff.

This is too big for me to summarize on the spot, and I’ll have to mull over it in stretched periods of time to really get it...but their relationship really runs deep. The trust, the time spent together, and Mob already being familiar with all the ways Reigen could come out. (‘I told you not to call me out of the blue’, ‘...I wasn’t expecting compensation anyway,’ ‘Do you want ramen’).

P.186 I was dead AHHHH Mob!!!!!

And Reigen probably knew straight away that the Tayori wasn’t Mob (he doesn’t reach out to grab Tayori Mob’s hand when he just naturally grabs Mob’s later). Everything about their short interaction was natural and right aAHH they just belong with each other.

Okay, back to Tome: Tome’s main motivation seems to be to search for the real thing, the really interesting thing that’s supposed to be beyond her reach. It’s that interest in the unknown that drives her.

But then Dimple says: there are loads of things you don’t know about your own world. The only thing that draws you toward this side of the world (the spirit realm) is your false and shallow image of the ‘unknown’. For you it’s just a hobby. Keep it that way.

I loved the final message, with Tome turning her interests back to her surroundings and to things within her reach without giving up her ‘hobbies’. The final narration says that things are special on their own, that there’s no need to look further. They do require some seeking out, but they’re all within our realm and actions. The book seems like a friendly push toward action, reminding us to live in the moment instead of taking interest specifically in things that aren’t connected to our reality (I’m guilty of this). I felt both exposed and seen. This was such a fun read.

토메 시점으로 넘어가서 우리에게 보이는 레이겐이  ‘외로운/공허한 본인’ -> ‘재밌는 주변인’ 이렇게 바뀌는게 좋다. 레이겐 이미 성장했고 우리는 토메 시점에서 그걸 문득문득 보는 것 뿐.

그나저나 악령을 뒤돌아보게 하다니 미친놈 진짜 난놈이야 레이겐ㅋㅋㅋㅋ악령 둘이 싸움붙이깈ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ아 진짜 어케 이런놈이 다 있지.

아무튼 내가 느끼는 책의 메세지: 있는 그대로의 진짜의 것.

최근에 소중한 절친의 죽음을 경험했고 아직 받아들이는 중인데

이걸로 실감하는 것들 중 하나가 있는 그대로가 진짜라고. 진짜가 따로 있는게 아니라 모두다 진짜의 구성원이라고.

내 경험과 책을 깔끔하게 떼어서 생각할 수 없으니 책의 주제 의식이 어떻다고 단정지을 순 없지만 레이겐131을 읽으면서 내가 새로 받아들이는 이 관점을 다시 연상시키게 되었다. 진짜인것은 멀리서 찾을게 아니라 주변에서 행동으로 나를 찾아오는 이 순간순간에서 찾을 수 있다고. 뭐 이미 위에도 적었지만. 이 관점은 나에게 이 책을 선물해주고 침대에서 같이 읽어준 친구에게서도 배우는 관점이라서 이렇게 깊이 각인되는 것일수도. 레이겐 131 첫 독서 진짜 의미 있는 경험이었다. 개재밌음 진짜...

What is the perfect height for desk/chair for gaming?

Hello everyone,

I have been struggeling with carpal-tunnel-like symptoms for 5 months now. I've been to two doctors, one of which just gave me some pills and told me to go home while the second one actually put some effort into this, made an x-ray and concluded:

'Well it seems like you had carpal tunnel but it seems to be getting better by now. But to make sure it heals, get a " medical arm splint (sorry if this is not the correct word I am talking about sth. like this: http://deinemaus.de/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/armschiene.png) and try to rest the arm"

I got this splint, started using the mouse with the left hand and let 4 months pass. Last week I started a full time job and while things got somewhat better with my right wrist by now, I immediately felt the burn after working 8 hour days at a desk. After a full week of this I am kinda getting scared because the pain seems to get worse day by day.

Luckily the table/chair are both adjustable in height. I was trying to find the perfect height for both on the web, but was unsuccessful.

I have a height of [186 cm/6,1 Feet]. I have an average bodyweight so not skinny/not fat. Could anyone here maybe tell me how high should I set my table for maximal wrist comfort and how high I should set my chair accordingly?

PS: I am also in the prcoess of getting an ergonomic mouse / ergonomic keyboard but I feel like desk/chair height should be the first things I should work on!

On the height thing: yeah they're all fairly small and then you have the Williams line up with both being 185. The only lineup that I know of that would have been bigger was Alex' and Nicholas' line up in F2 (with Alex also being 186) and the maybe future line up of George and Esteban. It's also why the taller drivers tend to be skinnier in comparison to the beefier guys like Lewis or Max or sth, because the tall guys can't affort to gain much more muscles bc of the weight (it's also lead to taller drivers being more prone to eating disorders in the past I think JEV talked about it and I think I remember discussions of Hulk not being far off)
