Something so like, underhandedly toxic and incredibly insane to me is Feyre’s view on how family is supposed to work, even after she has escaped poverty, is the richest woman in the Night Court, literally the top 1% in all of the world.

She’s begins ACOTAR in the traditional male/father role for her family because her father is literally a piece of shit who can’t be bothered to care for his children at all. She believes she’s the only one doing any real work because she is doing the bulk of labor that brings in any money, determines how much money anyone in her family gets, and makes the choices of who her sisters are allowed to marry, despite them all being adults at the beginning of ACOTAR. While objectively annoying, you can understand how she is in this role and why she feels the way she does. When you’re in poverty and that run down, it can feel like you’re doing everything by yourself.

Yet, she goes through the entire series, supposedly grows (I don’t see it but I will let that go for now) and heals. Flash forward to ACOSF.

Among the many stupid reasons Feyre is upset about Nesta, she’s upset that Nesta doesn’t want to LIVE WITH HER. That Nesta didn’t choose to help decorate the room Feyre has plucked out in her new shiny mansion for Nesta. Upset that Nesta doesn’t want to be deeply involved with the Inner Circle. Upset that Nesta wants to celebrate Feyre’s birthday away from the IC for a small dinner with just her sisters.

Feyre firmly expects her sisters to keep living with her because, ope, she’s still in charge and gets to say what they can or cannot do with their lives. She puts the stamp of approval on Elain gardening, so Elain gets to do it. Elain stays close to the wraiths and lives with Feyre, so Elain is safe. But anything Feyre doesn’t approve of as a life choice, her sisters daring to live apart from her? That is insulting and cruel in the eyes of Feyre, and therefore Rhysand.

The only way Feyre lets them/is happy with them living apart from her is when they marry someone of her approval. And even then, Rhysand and Co show up in the House of Wind whenever the fuck they want. All of the security in place is directly under Rhysand’s control. It still gets used whenever the IC uses it. An entire population of abused, broken, and deeply religious women live in the library under the house. There is absolutely no privacy.

Is it objectively decent that there is a place for abused women (priestesses alone though) to be safe and heal and find companionship? Yes. Does Nesta support this? Yes. Should NESTA HAVE HER OWN HOME WITH PRIVACY WHERE SHE DOESN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE LIVING UNDER HER????? YES. SHOULD NESTA BE ABLE TO LOCK HER DOORS AND TELL RHYSAND TO FUCK OFF BECAUSE SHE JUST NEEDS A MINUTE TO BREATHE, SHOULD SHE HAVE THE SPACE TO SAY WHO SHE WILL AND WILL NOT ALLOW IN HER HOUSE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT REGARDLESS OF THE FUCKING REASON????? YES. SHOULD SHE BE ABLE TO LEAVE/ENTER HER OWN HOUSE WITHOUT EXTREME PHYSICAL LABOR OR RELYING ON PEOPLE THAT COULD MAKE HER HOMELESS WITH A SIMLE PETTY THOUGHT? YESYESYESYESYES.

This is literally insane on Feyre’s part. This is not how adults work. Your sisters are not children and you are not their parent. They absolutely have the right to live wherever they like. Adults, especially adults who come from extreme poverty and abusive backgrounds, need their own space, a home of their own that they can control and be safe in, not a single fucking room like some divorced dad who only sees his kids twice a month gives. I don’t care how you treat your family, if you’re the cuntiest, more horrible person that ever existed, you still deserve a home of your own where you are safe and can control who you see and when. Why are you designating rooms for them in your house and expecting them to live there? Why can you not let go of this need to control their lives? There’s this weird idea in ACOTAR that because the IC is so close, they all need rooms in Feysand’s house(s). There’s mention of secret houses or manors that the IC uses/possesses, but why the hell don’t they have normal homes of their own???? Where they live??????

I’m sorry but this is insane, abusive, controlling behavior from Feyre, I don’t care how sweetly you paint it. It’s giving Mother Gothel. Your sisters are adults, let them live their own lives, stop expecting them to live with you until they need privacy to fuck the person you approve of them fucking. Rhysand and Feyre are the same in their need to control the lives of the people they claim to care about, wanting personal freedom while stripping it away from others, all the while presenting them “choices” that are all just fucked up loses of self and control.

It is very telling that cutting Nesta off from their personal funds was never an option. There was never an attempt to let her find her own way, to find a job that brought her joy or a life she controlled. In truth, neither Feyre or Rhysand care about the money. 500 gold pieces isn’t anything to the man who doesn’t care about a budget, who buys endless jewels for a tiny monster. It was always, live where we can control you, access you, and watch you at all given times. Oh thanks for saving our lives, here, you can stay in the prison where we can do all of those things forever! It’s a gift. From us. To us. Aren’t you happy and healed?

Please. Someone teach Feyre how adult relationships work.

No matter how far Feyre has come, she has yet to understand that sometimes people make choices you do not like at all, but that you, as a person who claims to care about them, need to accept and understand they’re working their way through life, even if you do not understand or agree with it. Controlling every aspect of someone’s life will NEVER be good for them.

Something I've really noticed in SJM's writing of Rhysand: She'll constantly say one thing about him but the writing will tell us exactly the opposite. Like she'll tell us that Rhysand is super feminist or some shit and we're just supposed to...agree. But he hasn't done shit to help Illyrian females who get their wings cut off every day. Making laws without enforcing them is useless. Which leads into my second point: She tells us 70 times a chapter how powerful Rhysand is, yet he's unable to force the Illyrians to follow laws? Pls be fr. She tells us he believes in the equality of all beings. Yet he sexually assaulted a 19 yo human and he separates the CoN from Velaris? And also says bOtH sIdEs MaDe MiStAkEs. Bitch stfu. She tells us this man is uber handsome and desirable. Yet he's had no serious relationship in like 500 years. Tamlin has had relationships with a ton of people as was stated in book 1. But Rhysand? No relationships or even casual fucks as far as we know. Bro is just celibate somehow. We KNOW Lucien is hot because everyone in Prythian plus the Children of the Blessed are instantly dumbstruck when they look at him and it ain't because of the scar lovelies. Plus we even have LUCIEN being out on border control "WITH SOME COMPANY!" As in he was fucking someone. Plus he had Jesminda ofc. And we have Tamlin being insecure (it's a retcon but whatever) of Lucien in ACOWAR when it comes to Feyre. We have SJM telling us Rhysand is super duper smart and shit. Yet I've seen no demonstration of even the slightest bit of tact from him. He couldn't even make the High Lords listen to a word he was saying without violence. But Nesta, a human just turned Fae, was able to make all of them listen without violence. We've seen Lucien use tact when he played spymaster in book 1, when he used his cunning to try and guide Feyre to the answer in book 1, when he and Feyre together use the Bogge to assert their dominance over the Hybern twins, and when he was able to send a sample over to his friend Nuan about the faebane. Plus there's the fact that he saw through all of Feyre's bullshit and he survived the cutthroat Autumn Court and he currently balances three roles while still dressing immaculately. She'll tell us Rhysand believes in choice. Yet she wrote Rhysand forcing himself on Feyre, Rhysand forcing Feyre into a bargain, not permitting her to go back to Spring, not giving her the necessary info to make a proper decision over ANYTHING in Night (biggest example of this is the Weaver scene), hiding her malignant pregnancy from her and restricting her movements, and locking Lucien and Nesta up in houses. I could go on but you know...

Sjm needs to realize that SAYING something doesn't make it true. You have to PROVE IT with the actions and storyline you undertake. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

They’re 500+ years old. They aren’t your “little babies”. You dint need to villainize the women in their lives to defend them.

Elain is a 23/4 year old woman who was just turned into fae, thrown into the cauldron, and burdened with immortality. The second she was out of the cauldron her mate claimed her. (not hating on Lucien for that, it just adds to the overwhelming events Elain had to endure). She was engaged to a man who she loved, but he rejected her soley for the fact she was fae, and told her that she belonged to Lucien. That she was his. Which caused her to resent the mating bond. She feels uncomfortable around him. She feels uncomfortable when he tugs on the bond. She shrinks when he’s around. She wishes to be as far from him as possible. He knows this. He admits it in ACOFAS, and even says he doesn’t feel comfortable around her too.

Now, should she reject him? YES. But obviously SJM ismt going to have her reject him as some side plot in another characters book, that would be stupid. She, however, has had Elain verbally reject him many times. I also believe that no one has told her how to reject him. I’m not even sure if anyone in the IC does know how since it’s so rare and not much is known about rejections. So, I’m sure that will be a plot in Elaina books, if Elain decides she doesn’t want to be with Lucien that is.

mischaracterization of feyre archeron

by the whole entirety of acotar fandom

feyre archeron decided on her own to go in the woods and learn how to hunt. she assessed her family's situation, the state and skills of her family members and her own skills, after that she came to conclusion that she was the best option. and she was right. because she is fucking smart. so for the love of God, let's stop acting like she was forced by her sisters (read Nesta) into doing that. she's a good person and fucking analytical genius.

saying that she was forced is disrespectful to her character. it's giving credit to nesta for something she wouldn't even consider a possibility. like I love nesta(that's my wife), but in no universe she would see a hunting as potential survival strategy. they were all girls so in nesta's eyes their only way to secure wealth is to be wed. but feyre wasn't brainwashed by their mother and saw what needs to be done and who is the most suited for it.

yall want to make her this martyr and a victim, but trust me her family situation is nothing compared to being abducted and forced to live with deadly beasts (read Fae), then being tortured, hunted for sport and LITERALLY killed. she earned her martyrhood right then and there.

also let me say this once, she wasn't abused by her older sister, she was the sole provider for said sister. if anything she held all the power in that shack. we cannot understand the complexity of their sisterhood, because we've been in the shack for few pages. it's impossible. "nesta and elain should be thankful." girl stfu and eat your food. what feyre did was incredible and im telling you right now if you think she did it because she wanted gratitude read those books again. the way they react to their circumstances is valid and feyre doesn't hold it against them. unlike other characters(read the IC).

frankly I do belive that this general consensus about feyre's character being victim of her family is caused by the IC and their treatment of the sisters (who would've thought!!). they see that feyre is traumatized but cannot talk about what she went through UTM. because by talking about it, rhysand wouldn't be a saint. so they don't talk about it. and feyre is traumatized and isn't ready to face that. the trauma is still there and now they need something else to blame. so nesta and elain get the short end of the stick.

also the fact some of you freaks love to self-insert into her isn't helping. leave my daughter alone, thx.

feyre archeron is a genius woman. she isn't always victim of her circumstances. by enforcing certain narratives yall are discrediting her and it needs to stop.
