Stevie in Wizards of Waverly Place deserved better.

was going to make a post about how - if the pink opaque as owen and maddy experienced/remembered it even existed within the world of i saw the tv glow - the s5 finale is an insane and horrifying ending for what is described as a children's show but then i remembered the wizards of waverly place (2007-2012) episode where they brutally kill off a sympathetic character onscreen and play a laugh track and then the show continued for another two years with nobody acknowledging that it happened so. actually one of the more believable parts of the film.

Frankly, I don't watch or care about teen sit-coms any more but I'm keeping a close look on the wizards of waverly place sequel show simple because I need to know how they are going to handle that family tournament thing as a doubt modern audience, even kids audience, is going to be okay with how mess up it actually was.

because no disney, i didn't forgot the time you created the most broken magic system ever, have multiple characters complained about how broken this system is and how it is keep destroying families but when a group of people that were victims of said system actually spoke out and started complaining loudly the narrative potrait them as stupid, ungrateful brats and the leader of this movement was called "pure evil" by main characters and killed of in a joke

thinking about how Max got his full powers when he was around 12 in the first season of WOWP and wizards can still be late bloomers around age 13,

and since Billie is already 12 and so is Roman… there is still a chance that at the season finale of s1, we discover that Roman does in fact have wizard powers.

this leads to eventually figuring out Milo might have inherited magic too and when he comes of age he’ll have his full powers. this leads to the Russo family finally getting into the real villain of the WOWP Universe: the Family Wizard Competition. so the Russo’s + Billie (bc Justin and Giada legit adopted her) fighting to disband this entire competition.

ironically, in another twist, Alex tells Justin that this whole thing could have happened twenty years ago had they helped Stevie end the competition cycle for good.

Justin: Didn’t Max kill your ex-girlfriend by knocking her over as a statue?

Alex: Yeah, we don’t like to talk about that.

disney is a coward so I know they'll never do this, but given what we learned was SUPPOSE to happen between alex and stevie, I would still love a post-eloping for the reboot.

like just imagine alex and stevie as the Cool Gay Aunts(tm) for justin's kids (+ billie). they show up for the holidays and totally shower the kids with magical gifts, including a baby dragon for the boys (which does end up setting fire to their parents bed sheets). milo shows off a magic trick to his friends, using alex (since billie's not allowed to) sneakily casting spells from the bushes so the card really does dissapear from his hand, leaving his friends cheering (stevie smiling but refusing to admit to alex how cute is it). stevie has a motorcycle (which alex thinks is super hot but also refuses to admit) and while the kids aren't old enough for a ride, she does let them sit on it and rev the handles nice and loud while justin panics from the porch. they team up with all three kids to pull pranks on justin and even sometimes get giana in on a few harmless ones. maybe alex even uses her role on the tribunal to get stevie's records cleared, and they both start to advocate for a more fair way of distributing magic between families.

and billie could have an extra adult at her side! I know justin is suppose to fill the pseudo-dad role, but while billie spends her time with the russo's, also gets to spend her summers or whatever with her two cool wizard aunts. they encourage her to keep up with her studies but for the most part they just chill, letting billie indulge in a few sweets (knowing how health-conscious justin has forced his family to be) and sometimes in a pg-13 movie together. when she's there however, the house does turn into a prank war; guests are to be extremely careful when entering and encouraged to bring a separate pair of clothes.

I dunno it would just be super cool; alex and stevie reunited and I think the kids would love her too - plus watching their aunt who's always acted so aloof get all smiley and whatnot and I'm just imagining a scenario with alex and the kids like:

billie: why does stevie call you babygirl

alex: hey who wants to play the quiet game!!

Disney’s Bi Wizard Revealed

Long-time Disney Channel fans fondly remember the popular series “Wizards of Waverly Place” which ran four seasons from 2007 to 2012, and generated a made-for-TV movie and a reunion special.

The sitcom centered on the Russos, a family of wizards living in New York City, and it starred Selena Gomez as the female teen Alex Russo.

Alex had three ongoing boyfriends at different times during the series, but showrunner Peter Murrieta recently confirmed they (the producers) wanted to explore a romantic relationship between Alex and Stevie Nichols, a female teen wizard played by Hayley Kiyoko.�� Stevie appeared on only four episodes.

Murrieta was interviewed by Wizards cast members Jennifer Stone and David Deluise on their podcast.

Murrieta said, “I wish we could have played more with what was quite obvious to a lot of us, was the relationship between Stevie and Alex.  We weren’t able to in that time, but it was pretty clear to all of us what that relationship was, and that would have been fun.”

He added, “Disney Channel has had (LGBTQIA+) characters, and they did it.  At that time (of Wizards), it wasn’t a thing, but we got as close as we could to… I mean, it was pretty close.  That would have been great.”

He said their relationship was "quite obvious," but they weren't able to make it explicit.

It wasn’t until five years after Wizards ended, in 2017, that Disney Channel’s first openly gay character, Cyrus Goodman, was introduced on Andi Mack.

One thing about wizards of waverly place that i dont think gets talked about is the fact that the kids straight up murdered someone.

Like there is stevie who Alex froze and Max accidently shattered but that's an accident thats not murder

But the russos iterally said a spell that vaporized gorog and idk about you vaporized sounds very murdery

I love how much Hayley Kiyoko's 2010s Disney channel characters Stella and Stevie are so similiar. Queer-coded rebel teen with short emo-bangs hair. I just have the beautiful image of it being a dnd character change.

Like hi, this is my Dnd character Stevie. She's a badass rebellious wizard with some definitely queer vibes and has the hots for Alex.

Then one year later, idk Stevie dies in the campaign or something. And we have Hayley introduce a new character. Hi guys, so here's Stella, she's a badass rebellious bard with short hair and definitely queer vibes.

No shade, I love it, I just also think its hilarious
