I'd welcome an Amon Lives Lieumon AU sketch. What would they get up to after the war when the fighting is done?
You mean that thing I daydream about 25/8? Don't mind if I doooo-
(An expansion on this half-baked cookie of a hastily-answered ask )
After the Equalists were dismantled, Lieu ended up in a small seaside town in the Earth Kingdom, somewhere decently south of Republic City. He picked up a job as a dock worker for a shipping company. His supervisor, who also owns a row of for-lease warehouses on the waterfront, gave him a place to stay. After Noatak - unvanquishable cockroach that he is - survived the boat explosion, he coincidentally ended up on the shores of the very same town. Lieu can hardly believe it when he runs into him again.
The healing process - emotionally and physically - is a long and painful one. But the two take well to living together, and take comfort in being the only remaining ties to each other's pasts. They become more inseparable than ever.
Noatak lays low for some time, until news travels worldwide of the boat wreckage, and Amon is presumed dead. With his wounds healed, Noatak decides to start training again, and Lieu assists. He ends up teaching young local non-benders self defense in the empty warehouse adjacent to his and Lieu's apartment. He is of course a water bender, and his pupils know this. But he uses moves informed by bending forms to better educate non-benders in combat. After everything, he still wants nothing more than to empower non-benders.
Lieu gives him hell about flirting with disaster - "Local man with a big scar on his face opens a non-bender self-defense academy? Spirits, man, subtlety isn't your strong suit." But luckily, no one's the wiser, and they enjoy their quiet little life together.
Tl;dr Lieu and Amon deserve a happy ending, dammit, and this is the one I like to give them. <3 Thanks for the request!!

"'LONGSHOREMEN HERE JOIN SHIPPING STRIKE," Toronto Star. September 13, 1943. Page 2. ---- Object to Labor Board Hearing Case Until Third Member Named ---- Montreal, Sept. 13 - (CP) National war labor board hearings of disputes involving "several thousand" freight handlers across Canada will await "the time when the board is fully constituted," F. H. Hall, vice-president of the International Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, so announced today.
He said he had sent a telegram to the labor board "declining to proceed with hearings scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday and had urged Hon. Humphrey Mitchell, minister of labor, "to take immediate steps to fully constitute the board."
The labor board now has only two members, as the service of J. L. Cohen, K.C., labor representative, was terminated by federal cabinet action.
Meanwhile Mr. Hall gave this picture of the situation as far as A.F.L. freight handlers are concerned:
The strike of 1.800 Canadian Steamship Lines freight handlers and sympathizers from the Clarke Steamship Line in various St. Lawrence waterway ports continues, virtually paralyzing the movement of waterborne freight from the lakehead to Quebec.
Representatives of 3.500 C.P.R. hourly-rated employees from coast to coast, demanding vacations with pay and scheduled to appear before the labor board tomorrow, will not appear.
Representatives of 650 stevedores, employed by the Eastern Canada Stevedoring Co. of Halifax and demanding wage increases, will not appear at a scheduled hearing before the labor board.
Representatives of 500 Canadian Pacific and Canadian National freight handlers of Montreal, demanding wage increases, will not appear at a scheduled hearing before the labor board.
Representatives of 250 Canadian Pacific longshoremen at Saint John. N.B., demanding wage increases, will not appear at a scheduled hearing before the labor board.
Strike Spreads Here One hundred and fifty longshoremen, all C.S.L. employees in Toronto today joined the shipping strike which has involved five Great Lakes and St. Lawrence river ports.
Frank H. Hall, president of the board of Railway and Steamship Clerks, Freight Handlers, Express and Station Employees union. an- nounced: "The national war labor board has set Wednesday for the hearing of the case and the union has declined to proceed until the board is fully constituted.
"By an order-in-council made public last week. J. L. Cohen is no longer a member of the board. The union, on my instructions, has declined to be heard until a labor representative is appointed."
Mr. Hall said that freight at the head of the lakes is "completely tied up" there. He said, longshoremen employed by the Canadian Pacific Steamships and the Canada Steamship lines are on strike. The Montreal strike included employees of the Clarke Steamship Lines Ltd.
A C.S.L. official said that freight loading and unloading "is moving as usual in Toronto. We have a permanent staff here," was his only comment. There are no picket lines, he added.
No lake ships were unloaded at Montreal during the week-end. But at Fort William, white collar workers turned out to move part of the cargo of the passenger and package freight carrier Keewatin. All package freight boats at Fort William are idle, a C.S.L. official said.
The Keewatin cleared Fort William several hours later and with part of her cargo unloaded after all available labor, including office workers, trucked freight from the vessel to the shed for hours. At Sarnia, the C.S.L. steamer Huronic remained unloaded after 75 dock handlers there walked out in sympathy.

This is the Buddy for today, August 27th. It's a Sunday.
This Buddy is surrounded by some other people, because I felt like drawing different characters. I kind of like the long horizontal strip with multiple characters, but it was kind of hard to work with it on FireAlpaca, because the file was too big. I think it might be hard to see on tumblr, too, so here's a vertical version of the strip:
Hopefully that's better.

BALITANG LOKAL: Stevedores, Senior Citizens and PWDs receives financial cash aid programme to vulnerable communities in Dumaguete City [#OnlyonOneNETnews] (updated as final!!!)
(2nd & FINAL UPDATE) DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- Almost close to a thousand Dumagueteño residents have all participated the financial cash assistance, which to be turned in altogether with needed legal documents in their barangays, and government IDs whether if you're a regular Stevedore(s), Senior Citizens (SC), or Persons with Disability (PWD) individuals as later prioritized at the 'Lamberto Lajato Macias Sports and Cultural Complex' (LLMSCC) last Friday morning (September 6th, 2024 at 8am -- Dumaguete local time).
It quietly resumed the cash assistance programme, needed by the desperate waiting local communities for much-needed support, after almost 2 months of delays from mid-July 2024, resulting severely limited government budget in taxpayer pesos.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development - Region 7 (DSWD-R7) distributed the cash aid to be paid out locally through the 'Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program' (AKAP), which exclusively targets low to no income or minimum-wage earners. Officials from the Local Government Units (LGUs) in this said city to be paying out from the disbursement desk, shortly following after the interview to look for a job that suits your needs via online remote work or physically in-person, and is more likely to get you hired.
Intially launched in the late-mid May 2024, AKAP is a social protection program of DSWD that provides cash aid to individuals and families belonging to minimum-wage earners who may have regular income but not enough for their daily subsistence. The local government in Dumaguete has made a clear commitment to supporting vulnerable members within their community through this program mentioned above. The financial hardship faced by many local residents has been eased by the resumption of disbursement, which faced some delays at the treasury office.
Because of public service for the whole Dumagueteños as both independent sources and text messages told OneNETnews, the local government of Dumaguete City pays you directly from the taxpayer government authorities to the eligibly qualified Stevedores, SCs and PWDs, all were receiving at PHP3,000 each (or approximately U$D54 per head).
This will, not only address instant financial needs, but will also create ways for beneficiaries to get employed, thus securing their economic stability in the longer term. Over time, it is likely that Stevedores, PWDs and other qualified persons; will continue to have their lives positively affected by the programme in general, adding to the general well-being of the entire community during these extremely challenging times in life.
Besides, cash aid, and partially for those of them for Senior Citizens & PWDs combined… The Civil Service Commission (CSC) of the Philippines is set to mark its 124th anniversary, with a month-long celebration themed "Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes". The anniversary highlights the importance of a sustainable and future-ready civil service through various events, including a nationwide government job fair, medical missions and a leadership symposium.
The anniversary celebration recently launched on Thursday (August 1st, 2024) thru Monday (September 30th, 2024), stated from a press conference at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in 'Visayas Avenue, Quezon City, Manila'. The CSC's anniversary celebration is part of the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA), which is observed annually in every September of the month, as declared by Presidential Proclamation #1050.
Major activities will engage public servants, offer community services, and acknowledge the contributions to the civil service. CSC ensures that all government agencies are active participants, thereby making this event an inclusive activity supporting senior citizens as well as persons with disabilities. It celebrates not only the age-old institution but preparing the civil service for future challenges and opportunities in the delivery of public services.
Philippine President named "Mr. Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Romualdez Marcos Jr." or PBBM acknowledges all the City of Gentle People, including Negros Oriental congressman 'Chiquiting Sagarbarria' & 'Chaco Sagarbarria' for their continuous public service and dedication to the people of Dumaguete City and the province of Negros Oriental.
Dumagueteños and Negrosanon communities are so appreciative to the local government because, for many families facing actual hardships, the financial cash assistance, has really been a lifeline during these protracted economic difficulties.

What is Stevedoring?
Stevedoring is a crucial aspect of international trade and transportation, involving individuals responsible for efficiently and safely handling cargo at various international ports. These professionals are commonly known as "dockers" or "dock workers." Their primary role is to oversee the loading and offloading of a wide range of goods and commodities from ships, ensuring they are properly secured and ready for their onward journey. While stevedores are most commonly associated with seaports, their expertise can extend to loading cargo for air, rail, and land transportation.

Pierre Louis Alexandre "Petterson" (1844-1905)
(Unknown Artist, Georg Hansen, Gunnar Börjeson, Ida von Schulzenheim, Martin Aronson-Liljegral, Matilda Hanström Berendt, Nils Larsson, Ingeborg Westfelt-Eggertz, Karin Bergöö Larsson, Emerik Stenberg, John Simpson, Caleb Althin)
Pierre Louis Alexandre is mainly known as a model at the Art Academy during the latter part of the 19th century. Artists who depicted him include Anders Zorn, Karin Bergöö (Larsson), Johan Krouthén and Oscar Björck. Pierre Louis Alexandre (1844-1905) was born in French Guiana and came to Stockholm in 1863, probably as a stowaway on an American ship with pork in the cargo. Here he made a living as a stevedore worker, but has mainly become known as a model at the Art Academy. In the archive sources, he appears with the swedish surnames Petterson and Alexandersson respectively.
Some characters steal your attention right away. Like the man in the oil painting that hung in Mats Werner's childhood home in Stockholm. The portrait made a strong impression on everyone who came to visit. It was painted in Stockholm in 1879 by Karin Bergöö, later Larsson after her marriage to the famous artist Carl Larsson, and depicts a man of color sitting reclining with his hands clasped over one knee in a mild, warm light. The man radiates both a peaceful calm and a dormant strength. The gaze is fixed on the distance. The image has an enigmatic atmosphere.
Mats Werner eventually inherited the painting from his parents. When he later cleaned out a basement storage room he found a folder with drawings. One of them depicted the same man as in the oil painting. Werner got curious: Who was this man? What was his story? Were there more portraits? Mats Werner began a dedicated detective work that led him to a large number of authorities, consulates, archives, libraries and so on in different countries. The dead ends were many. But the man must have made an impression in 19th century Stockholm? Very true. Werner came across various stories about the man's background and theories about how he ended up here. Eventually, the picture began to clear. The enigmatic man was Pierre Louis Alexandre, born in 1844 in Cayenne, French Guiana. He probably arrived in Stockholm in the mid 1870´s with an American ship. He escaped from the ship and earned his living as a dock worker. As the harbor closed in the wintertime due to heavy ice, he was lucky enough to find a new income as a model at the Academy of Fine Arts between 1878 and 1903. He acknowledged his first model fees "Louis Pettersson”. Alexandre was married twice and lived at several addresses on Södermalm in Stockholm. He died of tuberculosis in April 1905.
There are 43 known portraits of Alexandre by artists such as Karin Bergöö, Anders Zorn, Oskar Björk and Emil Österman. (source)

"MANY STRIKES THREATENED ON COAST," The Province (Vancouver). May 1, 1934. Page 3. --- Four Thousand Columbia River Fishermen Quit as Season Opens. ---- ASTORIA. May 1. - (AP) - A strike of Columbia River fishermen was proclaimed by union officials at midnight on the eve of the 1934 salmon fishing season's opening today.
Officials of the Columbia River Fishermen's Protective Union, who claim to represent the majority of 4000 Columbia River fishermen, were busy arranging a fleet of patrol boats to proceed up the river to spread news of the strike and enlist support.
Price differences between fishermen and packers apparently were on the verge of settlement at a conference late on Monday, when a snag was hit. Fishermen held out for abolition of piece work for cannery employees.
Previously fishermen lowered demands to meet the packers 'offer of 10 cents a pound for fish the first part of the season. A compromise of a five-cent minimum price from August 11 to August 25 was being considered when the question of piece work for cannery workers was raised.
Packers refused to consider abolition of the piece work, but proposed to submit the cannery works troubles to an arbitration board, to be appointed by NRA authorities. The meeting hit an impasse.
WATERFRONT WORKERS. SAN FRANCISCO, May 1. - (AP) - San Francisco waterfront employers moved today to meet a scheduled "showdown" on Monday on the long disputed question of stevedores' hours and wages.
The question now, said M. J. Wright, Pacific Coast manager of the Luckenbach Steamship Company, has been referred by the original mediation board of four to a new board of ten, five representatives each from employers and employees.
Unless the board brings forth an acceptable proposal by Monday, the stevedores agreed last night, a strike may be called.
TRAM STRIKE THREAT. OAKLAND, Cal., May 1. - (AP) - Demands for increased pay and shorter hours for street car. men, motor coach operators and electric trainmen in East Bay cities were announced by the Car Men's Union here Monday night.
Union officials said the demands were made on behalf of 1000 employees of the Key System Ltd., the East Bay Street Railways Ltd., and. the East Bay Motor Coach Lines Ltd., affiliated concerns. William C. St. Sure, vice-president of the concerns, said the demands will be considered at a meeting of executives tomorrow.
