i think the gender thing re: palpatine comes 1) from his perceived physical weakness and his old man appearance and 2) from his dark side seduction. just like dracula hes not fully perceived as a man the way masculinity standards allow - there is something feminine about him that is actually hiding THE Father - the one who only wants to survive and dominate his children by establishing his authority as supreme through lineage. but his behavior explicitates a devious sexual threat that is far from the reassuring sexual dominance of the Father..... somethings too sly about him. he fundamentally comes off as effeminate and therefore dangerous. im saying ALL this as in cultural stereotypes not shite i myself believe re: women men fathers mothers and roles adbvgfh. you know.

Kindof obsessed with how, in ASM, Jeremy's realization of his and Shuli's positions comes out. It's not a "regretful male lead" moment - he's always known his previously unkind behaviour was uncalled for, and honestly...it would've been asking too much of him to behave differently, considering the circumstances. He's even somewhat forgiven himself for his petty actions by resolving to be better already. This wasn't some grand revelation!

It was just him putting the pieces together. The straw the broke the camel's back.

All this time, he's suspected, he's KNOWN, that her position in his family was more akin to a shield than a person to be cared for. But the truth was too painful for him to look at, and so instead he had hoped there was love between his father and Shuli. With the final confirmation that there WASN'T, nothing was preventing him from drawing the conclusion he'd always suspected: his father brought her in to bare Jeremy's burdens.

The best part about it is that he doesn't push her away afterwards. Instead, he swears fealty and to bare her burdens equally in return. The way he strives for equality is just *clenches fist* such a balanced and mature response from someone who is still VERY MUCH SO written as a teenager. It really shows how much he cares and how deep his morals run whaduiahskjodjashdiuasjfnk

Me, trying to come up with a plot that accurately reflects the complexity and dynamics that are Annabeth's and her father's relationship with one another, as well as her feelings towards his new family, because while there is love there, how much necessarily? Not enough, to be assumed, because Annabeth ran away when she was seven and, with Luke's description of her in the books at the time he and Thalia found her, she wasn't in the best condition. Reading about how monsters tracking on to her scent and made her a target was the cause for many fights between her and parents, all of which was before she ran away and reads, personally to me, as a pair of adults blaming their young child, but these are also supposedly the same parents who, when discovering that she was in danger, actively wished for her well-being and, in her father's case, put themselves in harms way to go rescue her alongside her more than equipped friends, something, something, I could go on!
