This summer has been packed full of game releases, announcements, and game fests! Between Summer Games Fest and Steam Next Fest, there are plenty of demos to keep you busy well into next year. With all the goodies, I made sure to care out some time to check out a few demos from Steam Next Fest and I found quite a few gems! So, here are my thoughts on some of the demos I played from this year’s…

Hiya Papaya! 👋
It's a new steam next fest running and i looked at some demos. Unfortunately, it seems like these festivals are always when i got only a little bit of time to spare.
The review from february can be found here.
Shadow Album: I think this game could be a cool visual novel. Sadly, i don't understand chinese so i don't know what's going on. The only thing i know is that there were tiddies in my face multiple times.
You've been ReMaid: Get chased by a maid in a really dark mansion. I think it's supposed to be a horror game, but it's not really. It's just walking around trying to find some keys.
Thank Goodness You're Here: It was a pretty nice experience! Got to be a little british.
Tower of Mask: This was a really good dungeon crawler! I quite enjoyed the spookyness and being on the edge if there's an enemy behind the next turn. You need to get used to the controls a bit though
Maid Cafe on Electric Street: This game is electric alright. It's so overcharged that the game is unbelievably fast that i can't play this one because my character falls out of the map :( I really was looking forward to it (I asked a friend and they'd no problems with it so idk why i can't play it)
Goblin Cleanup: The Goblin Maid model is a bit weird, as in i want to play as a small smelly goblin instead. The game was cool, i guess. Although i think playing that with friends would be more fun!
Metal Slug Tactics: It's pretty fun and looks really good!
Blood Lily Loop: The Demo was a bit short although it was a good cliffhanger i guess. The "3D" or rather 2.5D Map in rpgmaker was pretty interesting, but it also kinda looked weird if you moved vertically.
SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim: Oh man this was actually insane. I was genuinely scared and concerned and felt like i got no choice. I'm really interested in this game now.
Going Down: I'm really disappointed. The screenshots looked quite promising, but all i got for a Demo was "Walk around in a circle and watch as some minimal things happen". Additionally, an options menu would be pretty neat since it was so loud. Oh and not being that zoomed in. I couldn't see shit.
My Favorites this time were: Tower of Mask and SAEKO! Go give them a play!

Underrated Demos You May Have Missed During Steam Next Fest 2024
It's worth noting that even though Next Fest is technically over by the time you're reading this, all the demos from it should still be available, and it's absolutely worth checking out these upcoming indies, cool double-A projects, and good times, all for free.
Check them out!

Najpopularniejsze dema z czerwcowej edycji Steam Next Fest
Jedno. Pojawienie się na…

wishing you a Happy October 2024 Next Fest from me & my steam deck!
Games I kept in my wishlist: (5/5)
Botworld Odyssey: IMMEDIATE 10/10 the vibes are stellar. Poké reference immediately? GOTY 2024. Literally grown in a lab for me. (Only one I have 100% the Demo for!)
Windblown: 10/10, played for far too long (apparently it was only 30 mins but bro it’s 1am now so I call…falsehood!). Felt fair and I still think I am capable of changing my weapons around during expeditions, so I can keep the not-default one forever as a starting weapon right? RIGHT???
Usual June: The simlish scared the heck out of me cuz I expected voice acting or nothing, but this game seems stellar! Combat took me a minute to sort out, I kept using items instead of fighting lmao. 10/10!
Graveyard Gunslingers: Absolutely immaculate time sink game. Vampire Survivors-Forager lookin’-ass-stupid, addictive masterpiece. (I think this one needed Experimental Proton?)
30 Birds: Awesome art & style! Atmospheric and entertaining point & click vibes, will return.
I’m not a pro gamer/I’m bitter but wrong about it: (4/5)
Enci’s Solution: dripping with class & polish, but after the 15th time not hitting the narrow window to progress, I got tired. Reminds me of Hob. I hope this becomes somebody’s favorite game from when they were a kid tbh. (Maybe this one needed Experimental Proton?)
Prospector: I wanted to love this one. But I couldn’t like find the EXACT ore the TUTORIAL wanted (I found 2+ others?) and that felt a little counter intuitive… It’s everything I want in a game (Satisfactory Forager) but… I dunno. I am keeping it probably, not uninstalling!!
Permafrost: I played this game singleplayer for 35 minutes. The game defaults to Gamepad no matter what even after I changed it, and this led to me stuck in the main menu in Desktop Mode. I soon got frustrated that head-sh*tting a deer wasn’t enough to k*ll it… But I’m sure somebody else playing KBM (I had to re-map a lot, no built-in controller support) would have more fun.
Toads of the Bayou: This one played “Ok” after I changed the resolution & the default controller scheme to WASD/Mouse. I had a tough time navigating outside of battles (menus, environments), but the battles were satisfying. I also couldn’t spend my final piece of gold on an item that costed 1 gold, which was weird & I reported using their bug report form. I might pick this one up once it’s been ironed out! Into the Breach/Slay the Spire, except I am not too simple for it.
Games that were fine or good/not for me/I uninstalled: (3/5 - 2/5)
Hail to the Rainbow: Absolutely BEAUTIFUL dripping with atmosphere and frighteningly easy to get the mechanics down with limited cues or guidance. Love the AI (speaking russian?) in my eyeball giving me hints. I am a WIMP and this game didn’t seem to have a Horror tag or I wouldn’t have tried it. But beautiful!!
Broken Alliance: The voice acting was stellar, but the pacing was way too slow & I skipped lots of the wonderful voiceovers. Battling seems fair, traversing the map is slow. This is a game for board game lovers, I think, which I so totally am not to be fair.
Chrono Sword: Right in, the vibes are nice. Why am I dressed and then putting on other clothes though? Also, pixel Dark Souls/Elden Ring. edit: found myself wanting to play this one hours later. Hm!
Great God Grove: This has awesome art, unique gameplay, and has lots of polish and style and heart. However,,, I’m still on the fence about it, solid 4/5 though!! Might not just be my speed/current kinda game I’m into.
Wild Planet: This game was awesome, don’t let it being in this section fool you. It took me forever to build a campfire using a controller— you need to double-click the item in the build menu to be able to place it in the world!! What a frustrating 5 minutes I had lmao. Really cute game. Some janky physics, not worth reporting as a bug. It has some charm, the style isn’t my fave personally. Stellar music though!
Floridale Man - The Joy of Chaos: I am just not chaotic enough! I picked up some items, talked to folks, didn’t combine anything successfully…and left! ✌️
Tiny House Sim: This one ran pretty well, which was a surprise. (Even after I quit to main menu suddenly on accident!) The game didn’t have native controller support & I found it pretty cumbersome, but it seems well-made, for KBM.
Games that didn’t run: (1/5 - 0/5)
Keep Driving: Really upset I couldn’t play this one. I created my character just fine with WASD/Mouse controller preset, but couldn’t do anything else. No controls listed in the game options to manually input. The grapevine says it needs KBM to play.
Cube Hero: I got the “Choose Language” screen and selected UK, then I got an error code, even tried Experimental Proton. No dice (no cubes?).
New Arc Line: This one technically ran. With SD Overlay, I had it: capped at 30 fps, Allow Tearing and Half Rate Shading. I made my character and skipped the cutscene (it usually went by too fast for me to read completely & there’s no voiceover) and…the game stopped moving. I tried to open my Overlay (using my external controller’s shortcut) and then this game crashed my Deck. Didn’t respond to my hitting the power button for a while. Had 3 scary vertical lines light up when I held down the power button. Then turned back on when I pressed it once. Will not play again until others verify it won’t crash using default settings/no Cryo Utilities!
Anterris: This one eventually booted (because I pressed random buttons after the Unity screen? Coincidence?) but I had to map several of the controls, and I could not capture any creatures. I was riding on one I owned randomly before understanding why I would need to do that. The creature screen was zoomed in on my TV and I couldn’t really play the game. Not made with Deck (or even a controller!) in mind.

Steam Next Fest from October 2023 - Yes, Very Belated!
Steam Next Fest from October 2023 - Yes, Very Belated! #Blaugust2024
Oh my… as you can see from the title, this post has been in my Draft folder for months… I was wondering whether to just trash this post. But since it is Blaugust and since I spent a lot of time writing this post already, I decided to take a look at it now, update it with current information about the games and add the images, because the latter was the only reason I hadn’t published the post…

My newest Drarry (and Severitus!) fic has been revealed! This was posted for the 2024 Severitus Big Bang, a fest celebrating the father-son relationship between Harry Potter and Severus Snape, in all forms (bio parent, father figure, mentor, etc.). I explored an alternate reality where Severus married Lily, not James, and the ways in which that might have led to Harry's life being drastically different from how it was shown in canon.
Title: The Fall of the Hosue of Evans Rating: Explicit Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Word Count: 142,000 Summary: After spending fifteen years living in hiding in America following his mother’s murder and his own near-death experience, Harry Evans and his father Severus are obliged to return to England for a compulsory year of education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But never fear—everything’s gonna be just fine, he just has to get through nine months of maintaining a secret identity, putting up with a trio of really weird godfathers, feeding the fantastic magical noodle he found in a sewer, and dodging the wrath of the surliest, prickliest, finickiest roommate one could ask for. Associated Works: This gorgeous typeset from my partner on this project, kitsunerei88! Notes: Be sure to read the tags on AO3, and the lovely cover art was commissioned from @ muraeaka on twitter!
Read it on AO3
Teaser
“Quodpot,” Harry said, still marvelling at the slick subway tile lining the showers and gleaming fixtures. The ceiling overhead was already blanketed in a thick fog of steam, and the air was getting heavy with humidity. How was it the bathrooms here were nicer than his and his father’s entire apartment back home? “And I haven’t actually played.” He hadn’t even flown on a broom before, honestly, but confessing as such right now might send Malfoy into cardiac arrest. “Ugh, ghastly name,” Malfoy groaned, shucking his Quidditch jersey and pelting Harry in the face with it as he set to work on his bottoms next. Harry quickly turned his back, letting the jersey drop to the floor. He wasn’t Malfoy’s house-elf, even if Malfoy spoke to him like one. “Step lively,” Malfoy called out, voice fading with distance. “I haven’t the time to bring you up to speed so you don’t embarrass our House and then shower.” “Surely there’s a book or something I could read on the subject…” Harry groaned, carefully stepping backwards after Malfoy. If he slipped on a bar of soap and got an eyeful of Malfoy’s undercarriage, he was going to leave, just leave, Apparate right through whatever wards were blanketing the campus and damn the Trace and all threats concerning it. Blessedly, though, he bumped up against one of the long benches fronting the stalls and settled down, focusing on the far wall while Malfoy told him all about the evolution of the Snitch from bird to ball and then moved on to a lecture concerning the different broomstick manufacturers and their respective strengths and weaknesses. “And frankly, the Nimbus line hasn’t matched the quality of the Firebolt since—towel.” Malfoy snapped his fingers at him. “Towel, Potter.” “Summon it yourself.” “With what wand?” “The one you’ve got up your ass…” Harry grumbled beneath his breath.

Hiya Papaya! 👋
Who would've thought that there are so many steam next fests in a year!
The review from june can be found here.
I'm just going take a quick look into the demos since i don't have that much time on my hands:
All in Abyss: Judge the Fake: Banger game! Maybe i finally become the best in poker. Maybe even worth to play it at an inventory ;)
ANTONBLAST: I was looking forward to playing this game and it didn't disappoint! Give it a shot!
Dungeon Flowy: It's a bit boring tbh (maybe i don't like idle games that much), but the artstyle is cute
Urban Myth Dissolution Center: Cool Artstyle and i like detective games! I'll be playing this for sure
Trainee Death Simulator: Cute Art and i like the gameplay
OYASUMII: The movement felt a little bit off, but it's an interesting (and scary [i forgot that this game has a horror tag]) game. But i got a bit lost sometimes... OH the last screen was a cool way to end the demo
The Silent Kingdom: This seems like a pretty cool rpg game! (This was also the one that i played the longest) I'm curious how "Mistrust" and "Cold Blood" are going to change the story.
Rift of the NecroDancer: We do be loving rhythm games
My Favorites this time are: ANTONBLAST, All in Abyss: Judge the Fake, Urban Myth Dissolution Center and The Silent Kingdom

Demo date announcement!
The most important information up front: The demo's release date will be the 27th of September, 2024!!
I don't think Steam notifies you even if you have followed/wishlisted the page, but still, every single follow and wishlist helps immensely. You can check the game out here, and this is also where you can grab the demo from once it's out.
The lore of the demo
A few months back, in late June, I had just come back from housesitting. One of my friends, Lucinius, mentioned that Steam was holding a space exploration festival on the 2nd of September, and suggested I get the demo ready for then. I thought this was a great idea and feverishly started working to finalize everything.
It took 6 days total to get my steam developer account up and running, including paying for the ability to put a game on Steam, getting the OK regarding tax details, etc. It takes 30 days from initial payment to when you are able to actually make the store page live. The process was quite overwhelming but this amazing guide here helped me through basically all of the process, and it was super accurate!!
About a week before the festival, I had everything ready and went to do the store pages and upload the game build. I thought uploading the build using the provided command line tool would be the hard part, and the store page would be the easy part. However, there are so many assets and variations thereof that Steam asks for that I had not prepared (about 20 in total with very specific size and design requirements), and so it took several days to complete this in a manner I was happy with.
It then also took about 5 days for the content to undergo review and for it to be approved (or not). The game page and demo build got approved, but the demo page did not as I didn't have "demo" on my assets that I had submitted for it, so it took another 5 days after correcting the page for it to be approved. This ended up being approved a few days after the space exploration fest had started, and so I thought I'd push the demo back for the next relevant festival - luckily a turn based rpg one - on the 1st of October.
However, a few days ago, I was sadly informed that my game (turn-based RPG, by the way) was not suitable for Steam's turn-based RPG festival after applying to enter it. I wasn't given a reason, even after reaching out to support, except a generic one that stated my game may not have been a good fit for it.
I honestly thought it would be a given I could take part, but that is obviously not the case! It was a bit disappointing hearing the news and the lack of feedback from Steam regarding the decision, but I'm not too fussed overall. That's because now I actually get to announce to you guys, and much earlier than I otherwise would have been able to, that the demo will be available the weekend before the festival starts!!
The date was strategically chosen, of course, to ensure I have enough time to finish polishing it, and that it wouldn't be lost among the sea of other RPG demos potentially (or not, I'm not sure) releasing during the festival!
In any case, the whole experience was seriously eye-opening. Probably not too interesting reading about it, but that's where my life has gone the past few months, and I'm actually super excited I'm finally finally allowed to mention the context surrounding my recent posts! Thanks for reading!

Najpopularniejsze dema z lutowej edycji Steam Next Fest
