This is an intro post to my blog. For the next couple of weeks I will be posting various ways why one should eat more sustainable and how to do it. Along with various recipes, places to eat, quotes and much more.

First off, I should introduce what the word sustainable means. Sustainability is defined as the avoidance of depletion of natural resources in order to maintain ecological balance. In which sustainable eating follows the same guidelines. The main guidelines regarding sustainable eating revolves around not consuming ingredients that are harmful to the environment such as; soybean oil, palm oil and high fructose corn syrup. Other food products that can be harmful to the environment, are those produced by animals. It is not the actual animal or the product from the animal that is harmful. It is the way that it is produced which causes damage. The way in which most animal products are produced is done by commercial farming.

Commercial farming is a quick and easy way to produce a large amount of animal products at once. However, it can take a toll on the environment. According to the EPA, “commercial farming plays a large role in; water pollution, soil erosion, and climate change.” (EPA, March 10, 2017)  For example, the pesticides, fertilizers and manure can get into run off water, polluting major bodies of water. Also commercial farming removes the surface soil. This surface soil is full of organic matter and nutrients. The erosion of the surface soil can also clog streams, rivers and lakes. Thus causing damage to habitats in the water. Commercial farming plays a huge role into climate change. On average commercial farming creates about 12.5% of greenhouse gases, 40% of methane and 62% of nitrous oxide.

Although, there is no way of putting an ultimate stop to commercial farming, there is a way to reduce it. The one thing that you can do to help reduce emissions from commercial farming, is to simply not support or buy any products that are produced by these commercial farms. In doing so, one may choose a vegan or vegetarian way of life to help reduce emissions from these commercial farming.

SWEET LIME Another summer fruit to boost immunity and a source of vitamin C that keeps skin and hair healthy and fights so many diseases. Did you have them yet? If not then get it and eat them sucking the juice by cutting them into 4 or 8 as per your convenience or take out the juice in a juicer and drink it. I like to take them in both ways but when a bit busy and have no mood to wash extra utensils I cut them into 4 pieces and enjoy it just as I used to have in my childhood days. An old cutlery holder that I found in my husband's old stock collection is transformed to a new form. Now, it can be used as cutlery holder, planter or any home decor. I have used here #gesso as primer, #lemonchiffon #chalkpaint and dried up #passionpink and #arcticshimmer #sparklepaste , all from #itsybitsycraftstore #madewithlittlebirdie . The #juterope recreated a modern and #sustainable design. Create your own design and do not throw out your old and waste materials. My colours and glitters were all most dried up. I was worried as I thought I could not use them anymore and due to locked down getting craft materials was also tough. Honestly, this locked down has tought us a lot of things. We have learnt how to survive with little things available around us and how to work or create new things with minimum materials available. We were chosen for inclusion in “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges: 2014 Edition"—a free, downloadable book that we will release today, April 17, just before the April 22 celebration of Earth Day. This guide has been published for five years in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council's Center for Green Schools & is the only free, comprehensive resource for college applicants that focuses solely on saluting colleges that have demonstrated a strong commitment to the environment and to sustainability. The review chose the schools for this guide based on the “Green Rating” scores they tallied in 2013 for 832 schools and reported in summer 2013 in our school profiles on our site and our college guidebooks.
