a reason to love

I’ve always been the troubled child,

the one whose anxiety prevented

words from leaving my mouth and

from making connections.

My mouth stayed sealed because

then maybe I could give you a reason to love me.

If I didn’t say anything, there would be no reason to hate me.

Like a pretty person at the airport,

I would stay in your mind,

always wondering what kind of thoughts

passed through my brain like clouds

and which thoughts remained like rain puddles on a cloudy day.

We Are Clique Artists is a project I started three years ago in my own attempt to connect all artists within this band-inspired artistic community. The main goal is to collect logos and signatures from illustrators, painters, photographers, designers, and artists of all kinds and use them as part of a design for a shirt (and poster, this year). Proceeds from the sales of these products are donated to the ASPCA and TWLOHA, two organizations that were chosen by popular vote by those involved in this project.

Year one this project had 55 logos and only 35 shirts sold. The donations to the charities were minimal, but any donation is needed. Year two I stepped on the gas and built the campaign to be much more self sustaining both in its brand and in the quality and production of the shirt design. I picked ten artists that I felt were role models in the community and created a documentary featuring them all. We had 220 logos and just over 300 shirt sales which provided us with over $650 in donation money. This year, I’m looking for even more.

Along with the shirt and poster in 2018, We Are Clique Artists is featuring a mini series featuring a handful of new artists. It is divided into episodes so that each artist gets the time they deserve to speak about their work, how they find inspiration and what this artistic community means to them. I’m hoping to continue this series down the road, as long as there can be some level of funding for production and software costs. There are many artists I would like to give the chance to be featured in this series.

Everybody loves the therapist friend,

the friend who will

stay up until 2am

because you had a bad day,

the friend who will drop everything

in a moment’s notice to be by

someone’s side

or will sacrifice their own wants for another.

Everyone romanticizes the heart

that lies within the body

of the therapist friend.

Nobody stops to realize

there is no one for the therapist friend

to turn to.

There is no listening ear or

warm hug

waiting for the right time.

So at midnight, when they can’t sleep,

the helper

sets down their phone—

silent of notifications—

and does the only thing they know how to do— write.

I know this is a really late upload but this is from the concert on February 18 at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. This was the best moment in my life. And btw Judah and The Lion are AMAZING!!!!! I was tagged by @avery-merry-cherry! What a wonderful surprise! I’ve never actually done one of these before so I’ve been rereading the rules like a maniac to make sure I do it right.

Fav Color: Blue! A periwinkle blue is probably the closest. 

Fav Animal: Not gonna lie my heart always skips a beat when I see a puppy or a kitten 

Cat or Dog: I’m not really an “or” person. I’ve been the mama of both the world’s sweetest puppy and the world’s clumsiest kitten and I love them both to death!

Song Stuck In My Head: “Angel Down” by Lady Gaga (it’s a real tear jerker, so don’t say I didn’t warn you!)

Last Movie I Watched: I rewatched Jurassic Park the other day because I’m super sentimental like that. That movie will always blow my mind. I have to tell my thoughts to shut up when I watch it, because I keep getting distracted by all the behind the scenes trivia I’ve memorized about it. 

Last TV Show I Watched: A Canadian sitcom called Schitt’s Creek! It has Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara in it and its absolutely brilliant! Lots of swearing though, so if that’s not your thing then Parks and Rec would be my next choice. 

What Are You Wearing Right Now: Getting ready to go outside, which in Canada requires a million layers of sweaters, hats, gloves and thermals. 

Do You Have Any Other Blogs: I’m a big fan of ABC’s Once Upon a Time, so I have a side blog for a lot of content from that (http://best-left-hook-jones.tumblr.com). It’s primarily a Killian Jones themed blog, though you’ll sometimes find me post other characters from that show as well. 

What Kind of Stuff Do You Post: I love photography and my blog focuses on landscapes, home, and portraits of people. My specialty is psychology and neuroscience so you’ll find a lot of calming imagery and quotes that reflect my thoughts on that. I’m a big advocate for self reflection and cognitive behavioural therapies, so that influences a lot of what I post. 

When Did You Create Your Blog: Four years ago? Thinking about it now, I’m not sure I know how to check... 

Do You Get Asks Frequently: Never, but I’m always around if anyone ever needs to chat! 

What Made You Decide To Make a Tumblr: This is a scrap book/photo album of my favourite things! It’s mainly just to keep track of the things I find interesting and enjoyable.

P.S. I took out one of the original questions regarding identifying your sexual orientation, but you can choose whether or not you would like it included in your own “get to know me”. I took it out because in leadership training I was taught that asking people to state their sexual orientation was not good for getting to know you tasks. The reason being is that this question could put someone in the uncomfortable position of choosing whether to “come out” to the group or to mis-identify themselves for the sake of “fitting in”. I didn’t want to put any of you in that position so I thought I’d just let that topic be. Either way, I personally don’t think that you need to know this about a person in order to get to know them :)  Like I said though, if you’d like to state your sexual orientation in your own post that is entirely your preference.
