Well I blew it. I ran 11:16 and placed 21st. I'm flinching just writing this honestly. I'm so embarrassed to have finished my high school career with my slowest time of the year. The worst part is that I don't know what happened. I was in the top 9 through the mile and even lap 5, but then I just broke down. I couldn't feel my legs, my feet were on fire, I couldn't even think. When I crossed the line I almost passed out. I've never felt so awful in a race before. It was the worst way I could imagine finishing my senior year. To add insult to injury, the race wasn't even that fast! My 10:50 from last year's state would have gotten me 2nd place! I didn't even have to have a great race, just a halfway decent one and I couldn't even pull that off. I know that this doesn't define my career. I know that no one can ever take away my PR or my medal from last year. But I still hate that I had to finish on such a terrible note. Now this is what I'll be thinking about the the next 3 months (maybe that's not a bad thing but right now it feels pretty terrible)

Two-peat?
By Grace Torkelson
Is a two-peat in the future for Lake Forest Girls Varsity Soccer? Carly Hoke, senior captain, feels confident that it is. Last year, her team battled Normal West for the state title and came out victorious after a nail-biting penalty kick shootout.
The player of the game was awarded to Lucy Edwards, now graduated. In addition to Edwards, Senior goalie Ginnie Revenaugh also graduated. While the absence of these, two key players, along with other seniors will be felt, Hoke believes it will not hinder her teams ability to bring home another state victory. “We have lost our top scorer, but I feel confident in our ability to fill the Edward’s shoes." Many of the returning players were starters last year and are predicted to have noteworthy performances in the upcoming season.
Among the girls deserving a notable mention stands Kendall Hoke, twin sister to Carly. A crucial part of the teams defense, Kendall Hoke provides experience and discipline to the Scouts roster. “I'm excited to see what will come of this season. Our team has great chemistry on and off the field. The journey to state made us like family.” It's this bond and the trust the girls have in each other that will be a large contributor to the teams success in the 2015 season.
The road to another state victory will not be an easy one, but it is an attainable goal. Star Forward, and fellow senior, Brooke Green is ready for the task. “We all have the drive and passion to make it all the way again this year. I cannot wait to get back out on the field and make my last season a memorable one."

The entire season, I've dreamed of placing top 3 in state. This goal has guided every action for the last four months. But then an unexpected plot twist in my running story hit last week. The favorite in the 3200 is injured and won't be running state. I'm absolutely devastated for her of course. Lindsey one of the nicest girls I know and doesn't deserve to be injured. But on the other hand, I'm not going to pretend that I (and the rest of Illinois distance) won't be taking advantage of the opportunity. Suddenly, we're all racing for first instead of second. You can feel the tension in the air and see it in our eyes. Going into this race, I have the 5th fastest time. The first seed is 10:34, only 11 seconds ahead of me. The next three girls are even closer (10:40-10:45). Last year, I jokingly told my coach that I was going to win it all in 12 months. In two days, that dream could become a reality. It's going to hurt. It's going to be the hardest thing that I've ever done. But I've prepared for this moment for months. For years, really. I've gone through hell in more ways than one. I've earned a shot at this gold medal. I intend to make the last chapter of my story something worth reading. "Come on kid, this is your dream"
