Finished the little what if scenario. It's with the au where Chimchar survives that I talked a bit about before. I might continue this if I can. 1,535 words
Chimchar wakes up to the dull sound of cracking fire.
Everything is cold, it's so so cold, but he was wrapped in something soft and there was warmth near him. The child had barely half a mind to realize that it was probably a bonfire, but then again, he didn't really care. It was chasing away the cold, even if slightly, and for now, that was enough for him.
The small prevolve would have simply gone back to sleep, not even bothering to try and open his eyes, if it weren't for the fact that a part of him was screaming that something wasn't right.
'You shouldn't be here' it shouts, 'you weren't here when you fainted, you might be in danger'.
Chimchar can't exactly remember what the annoying voice was talking about, but he knew that what it was saying was true. He could feel it in his gut, and his gut is never wrong.
Something happened. He's not alone.
A spike of adrenalina runs through the child, who was gradually becoming more and more aware of his surroundings. He tries to open his eyes, but quickly closes them again with a hiss when the fire's brightness overwhelms him.
There was another sound. One that the child only became truly aware of when it suddenly stopped. He can't pinpoint what it was, but he knows that whatever was making it knew he was no longer asleep.
Chimchar does his best to remain still as he hears quiet steps approaching him. He remembers some stuff Squirtle had taugh him on how to recognize footsteps and tries to put it into practice.
Whatever was approaching him was bipedal. The floor was hard and a small echo was made with each step, so they were probably in a cave.
'What else what else??' Chimchar shouts in his own brain, he had to focus on the sound, but it was difficult to do so when his heart was beating so loudly. When his head was rushing with fearful thoughts and scattered, incomplete lessons from his guardian.
The footsteps weren't heavy, but they weren't exactly light either. He hears shuffling, they were messing with a bag, maybe? So it could-
The child's brain stills as he feels a cold, small hand lighly tap his cheek. Definitely not a human hand. "Hey uh, kid? You awake?"
That was familiar. It felt different, but it was definitely familiar. He knew them, he's sure of it. He trusted them. Or at least he thinks he does.
That was his guardian, his teacher, his d-
Chimchar opens his eyes.
And is met with the relieved face of someone he had never seen before.
He scratches the stranger without even thinking. It does little next to nothing to actually hurt them, but they do seem somewhat stunned, confused.
He had to get out of here. He does not know this pokemon, he's in danger-
Something seems to click for the unknown figure, who puts their hands up to indicate that they mean no harm and looks at the child worriedly.
"Hey- listen it's me. I'm Squirtle, I just evolved! It's okay, you're safe! You need to breathe."
Chimchar only realizes that he was hyperventilating when he gets called out on it.
It was so surreal to have fear completely take him over like that. Before today, the child was sure that he was scared of nothing. He was gonna be the strongest pokémon ever, of course he never felt fear! Fear was for weaklings.
And yet, here he was. Pressing himself against a wall with the little strength he still has, barely able to contain his breathing, his heart beating oh so incredibly loud.
He's safe.
He's not surrounded by ice and snow anymore.
He's…
…He shouldn't be though. Chimchar is sure of it.
Chimchar had climbed the mountain alone. He had snuck away from Squirtle and Turtwig to try and face challenges alone for once. He wanted to get stronger.
He faced that thing alone. He fought it alone and he was killed from it alone, or at least he thought he was…
How is he sitting here with Squirtle unless he-
Chimchar, realizing what had happened, couldn't help but groan in annoyance.
"Why did you follow me? I could do this alone you know!"
His guardian raised a brow, expression filled with sarcasm. The wartortle sighs and starts looking for something in a discarded backpack that was beside him.
Backpack?
Chimchar looks at it, then glances around. The soft surface he was laying on is a winter coat. A human's winter coat. There were also a couple of random items the child did not recognize scattered half hazardly on the cave's floor, around the bonfire.
Wartortle seems to finally find what he was looking for, as he visibly relaxes at the sight of an orange spray bottle. He checks it over for a bit before kneeling in front of the child.
"Okay, so this is a super potion, it's an item commonly used to heal pokémon. You're on pretty low hp, so it's best you use it, just to be safe."
Chimchar, despite his annoyance, nods, and before he know it, he is sprayed with the healing potion. It's cold and sort of uncomfortable, but he gradually starts to feel the remaining aches in his body start to dull. The kid can feel himself becoming sleepy again, but tries to keep himself awake, if only to maintain whatever was left of his pride.
The older pokémon seems to relax a little by the visible relief the potion brought to the child. Putting the item to the side, he adjusts the coat Chimchar was laying on so the edges cover him like a makeshift blanket and, once satisfied, sits beside him.
"Are you feeling okay? You were in pretty rough shape when I found you."
The prevolve loathes it when this happens, loathes with all of his being. Squirtle always got him out of fights as soon as he had to face anything minimally challenging, always with the same concerned look and know-it-all speeches. He was never going to get stronger if he continued being coddled like this.
Nevertheless, Chimchar was way too tired to properly show his frustration. He wanted to scream, to bite, to run away fuming, but his body was just no numb, so cold.
He wasn't just going to thank him, though. He might be tired, but not that tired.
"I'm fine." he replies, only now noticing how scratchy his voice had become, nevertheless he ignores it. "How did you get all this stuff anyway?"
Wartortle looks away in shame, scratching the back of his own head and trying to think of a decent answer.
"Well uhh, I borrowed it from a human."
"You mean you stole it from a human." Chimchar immediately replies. The older pokémon sighs in frustration.
"Yeah, I stole it from them."
The cave is silent for a little while, only filled with the soft cracking of the fire.
"Did you kill them?" Chimchar asks, intrigued with the potential bloody details this even could have caused.
"No. They had a flying type with them, so I just told her to get her trainer out of here. I kept some of their stuff though." Wartortle can't help but chuckle at the kid's immediate loss of interest, it reminded him of…
He shook away the thought before it even fully formed. This was not the time to think about his old friends.
"Anyway, you're safe now. We'll get out of here as soon as possible, but we have to wait for the snow storm to calm itself down first."
Chimchar raises a brow at that. Storm? His memory was a bit hazy, but he surely didn't remember a storm. Did that giant pokémon cause it?
"It hit not long after I found you. I don't think that the gods obsessed guy cause it though. Unless he had been keeping it from happening? I don't know."
The child tries to focus on trying to hear the storm. The entrance of the cave had been blocked with a big boulder- something most likely done by Wartortle- so it was a little difficult to do, but with some effort he was able to listen to the hectic wind from the outside.
Just thinking of how cold it all most likely was made him shiver. Good thing he's inside the cave, he's had enough ice and snow for one day- or maybe even for a lifetime.
"I was lucky to find this place as quickly as I did, or else we would've been in a lot of trouble." Wartortle says, looking at the giant stone blocking the entrance.
Yeah, lucky.
Chimchar was still annoyed, though. He wanted to be able to do these things on his own. Just this once. He huffs, feeling himself gradually start to drift off.
"Ugh, as soon as I see Turtwig again I'm gonna kill him for snitching on me."
Wartortle, who was sitting next to the child, suddenly stands up in a panic. His previous calm posture gone in the blink of an eye and replaced by sheer and utter terror.
"SHIT- THE OTHER KID!"

The Rogues Rant #263
Welcome to The Rogues Rant, an occasional look at all things Rugby.
After watching the highly physical contest between the Crusaders and the Blues at Eden Park last week I couldn’t help but once again make comparisons between what we are witnessing here as opposed to across the Ditch. Earlier in the weekend I watched the Rebels and Waratahs match and there really was no comparison in what I saw. Once again it was like watching a Junior match up against a top grade match. The physicality and skill level in the NZ game was miles ahead of what we witnessed at AAMI Park especially from this Waratahs outfit. The lack of skills like catch and pass, tackling and the ability to gain and maintain possession and to be able to adapt to game circumstances is sadly lacking in the Australian developed player. I really feel for the players not only at the Waratahs level but right around NSW as they have been greatly let down by appallingly poor administration of our game at a state level for twenty odd years or more. Not only should we be concerned for the future of the Waratahs in this current Tournament and more over the cross over tournament with NZ later in the year, we should be concerned for the future of our game in the years and decades ahead. You’ve heard it all from me before but the current state of the Rugby game in Australia at all levels has clearly been on the decline for far too long while the Administrators have dilly dallied and not moved with the times to ensure the growth and prosperity of the game across the Country. We don’t have a growth and development structure in this country anything like what they have in New Zealand and elsewhere and if the Administrators at State and National Level don’t address the situation then we can only expect a further decline of the game all round.
The way Super Rugby is going I think that the upcoming cross over tournament with the Kiwis should be reconsidered. The RA Board really needs to consider the state of the game in Australia and whether participation in this tournament at this time is currently in the best interest of the game in Australia. A lot of consideration needs to be given to the competition structures in Australia. We have to turn around the current situation and make changes to our competition structures as it has been apparent for some time that our systems are just not producing the quality of player required for Australia to be competitive at an International level. Should we be throwing the Lambs to the slaughter or should we be putting in place a more productive structure for the long term future of the game.
All you young ladies out there who are looking for an opportunity to play Rugby locally put this date down in your diary. The IDRU will be running a Coaching Clinic/Introduction to Women’s Rugby Day at Vikings Oval on Sunday 11th April. The day will be open to all ages and there will be some highly experienced Rugby Coaches on deck headed by former Wallaroos Coach Paul Verrell. The day begins at 12.00 Noon and will run for two hours. Another bit of news on Women’s Rugby is that the NSW Country Women’s Under 18 Squad for 2021 will be coached by Illawarra Caldwell Cup winning Coach Ian Westwood. The backs coach for the program will be Don Nepia from Wollongong University.
Three from four last week for the Rogue with the Chiefs getting up for a much needed win over the Hurricanes. It should be pretty straight forward in Australia this week with the Reds and the Brumbies riding high at the top of the Aussie table. My tips for this week are: The Brumbies, Reds, Highlanders and Blues.
The weather is supposed to be fine over the next week, so let’s hope the forecasters are right and we can get some respite from the wet for everyone. There are four matches scheduled for Saturday and if we get a few days without rain we should be able to get them all underway.  Four very interesting match ups this week, so it’s difficult to set which is the Match of the Round. The Macarthur local Derby is on this week with Camden hosting Campbelltown at Wire Lane. Camden had a solid 18-0 loss to Shoalhaven last week in heavy conditions while the Quinnies were washed out. Difficult to get a line on this match but I’ll go for a close Campbelltown win. Avondale will put up the Peter Woods Challenge Shield in their match with Vikings at Vikings Oval. Avondale were the outstanding side in 2020 and will go into this match as rightful favorites. It’s interesting to note that the Blueys have not had a win over Avondale since the 2011 Grand Final. There is a lot of interest in the make-up of the Vikings side for this match with the club losing outstanding representative Locks Jack Hobbs and Cody Roman to Sydney clubs. They may also have an interesting inclusion at Fly-Half but I think I’ll have to stick with Avondale for this one. Avondale to Win. Tech Waratahs and Shamrocks meet at Saunders Oval in what will be a very interesting match-up. Tech were slow starters in 2020 but once they got some match fitness they finished the year very well. Fitness may well be an issue here but we can expect the Shammies will be ready to play but will be without Halfback Corey Aylett who is a big part of their attacking machine. All in all though I think I favor Shamrocks at this stage of the year. Shamrocks to Win. The last match is at Eridge Park where Bowral meet University. Bowral had a year off last year and University only fronted up for 2nd Grade so it will be interesting to see how both sides line up for the new season. I’ll go for the home side. Bowral to Win. The Shoalhaven V Kiama matches have been deferred to the 17th July, which will be Shoalies Digger Weekend.
The other Challenge Shields won’t be in play again for a couple of weeks. The John Haine Challenge Shield will be played for in Round 3 at Ocean Park, when Shamrocks play University, and the Taslk2MeBro Shield held by Vikings will be up for grabs in Round 4 when Vikings travel to Camden.

(Squirtle actually gets to keep a found family for once au) You know, if we go with the idea both Charmander and Bulbasaur are dead... I'd totally think Chimchar and Turtwig were their reincarnations or something [the image of this happening and 1) Charchar has the worst lick with dying and 2) Bulbawig got a real personality change in the reborn process didnt he]
Anon I frigging love reincarnation story lines so u have left me in a super big brainrot rn
Ok so, in the sagtkaffo au, Bulbasaur is alive and if I continue writing it, he will eventually be found
So let's call this what if scenario "reincarnation au" bc oh boy I love that concept.
Alright, so when it comes to reincarnation stories there is always the big question of just how it would work. Overall there are 2 ways it usually goes:
1) The fact they are a reincarnation shows up with unconscious things about the character. The way they act, their morals and values, their quirks, etc. Bonus points if they at some point get little memories of the individual prior to the reincarnation, mostly in dreams.
2) Who they reincarnate from watches over them in some way. Usually like a protective spirit- depending on how the character ended up the spirit can present itself in a lot of different ways.
I love both interpretations, so screw it, I'll think of it like a mixture of both.
So here are some fun things I thought about this:
1) The Sinnoh kids and Wartortle/Squirtle have no clue about it. Not necessarily bc they get no clues, no they are just really stupid Charmander and Bulbasaur, who pretty much have to watch everything and can rarely interact with them in any significant way, are constantly frustrated with this.
Squirtle/Wartortle, at times, gets very close to realizing it, but it never leads anywhere. He always just ends up thinking that it's a coincidence/his mind playing tricks on him.
2) Both Bulbasaur and Charmander don't know all that much about what happened during the caterpie war, much less what happened after that.
Which leads to them trying to influence the kids into asking more questions about it. They do it in their own ways, maybe Charmander mostly does it by constantly saying specific questions to Chimchar all day, making the kid think he judt had that question on his mind all day for some reason. Or Bulbasaur, maybe on purpose, maybe not, ends up making Turtwig have dreams with some of his past memories, which makes him more curious about certain specific details.
The main issue, is that Wartortle lies alot. And they know it. The sinnoh kids are usually able to tell, but not always, and it drives the dead duo, especially Charmander up the wall, especially since Bulbasaur won't tell him much either- and while sure he himself doesn't know all that much, it is still more than Charmander and he hates it.
3) the Sinnoh kids, on their own, end up having some of the dead duo's quirks. Some of them are harmless, like Turtwig looking for hats- which Wartortle usually ends up stealing for him or helping him make little flower crowns; or Chimchar starting to call Turtwig veggieburger from time to time- which, doesn't last long because both of them can tell that it makes Wartortle sad for some reason, so he eventually stops.
But others are not as harmless, like Turtwig being uncharacteristically gullible for no reason, or protecting his family from poison attacks because he, for some reason, thought he had an immunity to it.
Or Chimchar getting even more violent and cheating during battles. Sure the kid was far from a pacifist, but he always followed the rules in fights, or him going so far as to use some something- anything that could be used as a weapon, like a shiv.
Bulbasaur and Charmander don't make them do that. They did it on their own, but the fact that they are their reincarnations and that the dead duo are always close by has it's influences, even if accidental. Wartortle notices these things, but never really realizes _why_ it's happening. Poor guy has a few heart attacks every once in a while because of said situations, however- which can be either funny or downright depressing for the dead duo depending on the context.
3) I think in this au Wartortle is aware about Bulbasaur's death, and him talking about his old friend's so called "happy ending" was just one of his better lies. The dead duo, however, cannot really tell if he knows or not, and are also not all that sure if he should know- since the guy is already a whole mess. They get more suspicious when the sinnoh kids keep insisting on looking for Bulbasaur in Kanto, only for him to deny it every time.
At some point, he finally admits that Bulbasaur is dead, that he had lied and the dead duo can't help but be relieved.
4) Maybe the dead duo can be seen every once in a while, both by the sinnoh kids and others, but it has to be in very specific contexts. Like, maybe Chimchar could have seen glimpses of Charmander when he was almost dying in the mountain, and the spirit just kept screaming at him to stay alive, to not give up. He probably tried to stop Chimchar from climbing the mountain all together, by trying to talk to him, even though he knows that it's not gonna do pretty much anything substantial.
Same thing with Bulbasaur, but the difference is that the way they do it is usually very different.
Like Charmander will scream, and throw insults and maybe there will be some hopeful message in the middle.
Bulbasaur is usually more quiet and nervous, trying to coax Turtwig out of bad ideas or comfort him when he's in mortal danger.
Maybe ghost types and certain legendaries can see them. Like Mewtwo, and he is mostly just annoyed that the reason those two had not helped him for all of these years is because they had died. Maybe when he finds Wartortle and the sinnoh kids he is so tired from 10 years of battling that it takes a minute or two for him to realize that he had not been screaming at Bulbasaur and Charmander, but instead their reincarnations and is the one who, finally, breaks the knews to the trio that "hey you know your friends that died years ago? Yeah, they reincarnated as the kids you adopted and have also been following the three of you this whole time" dhdhdhdh
5) Maybe at some point, regardless of Bulbasaur being dead, they go to Kanto and end up seeing some old faces again, specifically from the caterpie army. And while Wartortle has mixed feeling about them, he certainly does not hate them, so his stories about the bug type team are always pretty neutral.
But, Charmander for one, absolutely hates them. They're the ones who killed him after all, and not just that, in his eyes, everything that happened to Squirtle and Bulbasaur during the war had been the caterpies' fault, so he can't stand them! Bulbasaur has, like Wartortle, mixed feelings on them, and at times can get uncomfortable when it comes to the caterpies- especially if he ended up dying in some avoidable way the caterpies did not handle well, like a fire and him still being trapped in the cave or something.
And since the dead duo have such strong feelings about them, those emotions carried on in someway in the sinnoh kids. Maybe Chimchar gets inexplicably angry or defensive at them sometimes, or Turtwig, even though the visit had been mostly pleasant, feels unreasonably claustrophobic and just wants to get out of the caterpie's hideout as soon as possible.
If the leader is still alive, they would probably think that Wartortle had told the children the worst stories about the group, but get very confused when the turtle says that he had actually censored most of the bad stuff. And, again, since Wartortle is an awful liar, the leader believes him- but just ends up getting very confused.
I ended up talking a bit more than intended, but I genuinely love these kinds of concepts! If I get some time I draw/write something on it at some point :)

U CAN'T JUST LEAVE US ON A CLIFFHANGER LIKE THAT!
Okidoki had a couple of free hours so why not! 1,650 words Chapter 1 Chapter 2 (here)
The sudden change in mood had left Chimchar wide awake once more. The ammount of utter terror emanating from the older pokémon was quite a strange sight to say the least.
Squirtle had always been a pretty nervous guy, especially when it came to the team's safety, but it was extremely rare for him to panic. Especially to this extent.
It was disturbing. Chimchar didn't like it.
The Wartortle was erratic, quickly throwing away anything he deemed to be non essential out of the backpack, leaving it almost completely empty. Not just that, he was talking to himself, but his words were so quick, so jumbled togheter that the child could barely understand him.
"Oh gods- what do I do?! How could I be so stupid! The kid's a grass type he's weak against- shit I have to-"
When Chimchar finally understood some of what he was saying, it didn't give him any ammount of comfort at all. Quite the opposite. Something was wrong, and although he hated to admit it, it was starting to worry him.
The older pokémon, after emptying the backpack, having separated only a couple of items, which were left somewhat neatly on the side, steps closer to Chimchar with a scared, but determined expression.
"Are you doing too badly?" He asks, looking at the child in the eyes to indicate that he wanted an honest answer, "Are you too hurt? Too cold?"
Chimchar, for once, was left speechless. The last couple of hours were so chaotic that he really didn't know what to do or say. However, while unsure, he knew that him answering was important, so he tried his best.
"Uh, I'm doing better than before. I think I'm mostly okay-"
"Okay, good."
Before the kid could even comprehend what was going on, Wartortle picked him up and, having him wrapped around the soft coat, places him inside the backpack.
"Hey! What's the big idea!" Chimchar shouts as soon as he got his head out of the fluffy interior of the stolen garment, furious.
Wartortle, however, simply ignores him and begins to put some of the items inside the backpack. The kid is able to recognize a few of them, potions and a couple of ice heals.
"Tell me if there's too little space. Some of these have glass bottles, and I don't want them to shatter and hurt you on the way." The older pokémon says as he started to carefully place the few things he had chosen to keep inside the bag.
"Hey- don't just ignore me! At least tell me what is going on!"
Wartortle adjusts the backpack a bit, and once he is satisfied he puts the straps on his shoulders. He goes towards the closed entrance, but before he gets the chance to leave, Chimchar pinches his arm, trying to get his attention. To get some answers.
He sighs, and finally, replies.
"The- uh other kid. He climbed the mountain with me, but decided to go down on his own after... It doesn't matter. He's definitely still in the mountain, so we're gonna get him."
Chimchar stares at him, confused on what he was talking about for a moment or two, before finally realizing what it meant.
"Other kid..? You mean Turtwig?" he asks, for some reason he couldn't understand, completely filled with dread.
Turtwig was the annoying weakling who would ammount to nothing that Chimchar had the misfortune of being stuck with. He didn't like him at all, at least, he didn't think he did.
But for some reason, the thought of him being hurt, of being in the horrendous cold that he himself had been on, scared him.
"Yeah Turtwing, that's who I- look. He could be in danger, so just hang tight and try to keep yourself warm in there while we look for him."
Chimchar was feeling way too many complicated emotions he wasn't acostumed to. It was hard to grasp on how to feel with all of the terrible things that had happened in the span of a couple of hours, the fear, the worry, the frustration.
The anger.
Yeah, he was angry. It wasn't the strongest emotion he felt at the moment, not by a long shot, but it was the easiest to handle. By far.
So he tried to focus on that, on being angry instead of scared, instead of vulnerable.
"Hey! I can walk by myself! I don't need you to coddle me like I'm a child!"
Wartortle uses one of his moves, strength, and pushes the boulder out, finally opening the cave and introducing them to the storm.
"You are a child."
With that Chimchar was fuming. He wasn't just a child, he was almost a preteen, that had to count for something.
Before the prevolve can think of a comeback, Wartortle is already running downhill. He can feel his fingertips start to get cold again and quickly puts his hands under the coat. Even with all of that protection, the coolness of the atmosphere was still obvious and uncomfortable.
Seeing his guardian's footprints in the snow stopped him in his thoughts. He felt a pang of worry at the sight, as much as he hated to admit.
"Well, at least I'm a fire type!" he replies, somewhat exasperated, "you're a water type- isn't ice a big weakness of yours? You should at least use the coat!"
Wartortle doesn't even turn to his direction, far too focused on going down the mountain's path without falling, but he does respond.
"Yes, but unlike you, I didn't almost freeze to death less than an hour ago. I'm a level 99, I can handle it."
Chimchar wants to find a clever response, but before he can, they come across one familiar ice type, staring at the falling snow.
"Ughh not them again.", the child mutters annoyed. Wartortle, however, looks somewhat relieved at the encounter.
"Don't be rude. They might have seen the kid, we need all the help we can get." Chimchar huffs, clearly unhappy at the thought of having to interact with one of the snover, but other than that, stays quiet as they approach the Snover.
"Oh! It's the blue shell man guy! From the legends! What an honor it is to finally meet you!" The ice type exclaims excitedly, putting their arms in the air.
"We litteraly met before these 'legends' were even a thing."
Snover gasps at that response, placing a hand on their chest at such heresy.
"No we haven't! The legend of the blue shell man guy is older than time itself!"
Wartortle covers his face with his palm, already irritaded with the entire interaction.
" You're the one who wrote- you know what, it doesn't matter. Have you seen the grass type kid recently? Turtwing?"
"Turtwig." Corrects Chimchar.
"Turtwig."
Snover thinks for a bit, squinting their eyes in concentration.
"Hmm... Oh! Yeah I've seen him! It was little while ago, it had already started to snow. He was trying to climb down this here mountain!"
Wartortle falters slightly at having his fear confirmed. The storm got worse by the second, the kid was most likely in trouble.
"Do you know anything else?"
The snover simply shakes their head. "Nope! But one of my friends might have seen him! If you ask one of them, they might know more, Blue Shell Man Guy."
With that, the water type gives a short thanks and goes back to running downhill, carefully looking at the ground in case he saw any indication of the lost child.
"What's with the 'Blue Shell Man Guy' thing?"
"Honestly? I'm not all that sure either. These pokémon just started calling me that and invented a legend when I beat that giant thing in snow-way."
Oh yeah, he remembered the giant.
He kept going on and on about gods, and their will or what not. He was annoying.
Too bad he hadn't been able to beat him himself.
Xx
Snover after Snover, they'd always hear the same things.
Oh Blue Shell Man guy this.
Legends that.
Oh yeah, I saw the kid but it was a little while ago.
Wartortle was honestly impressed. The storm was had made navigation quite difficult, and yet Turtwig had somehow been able to cross a good chunk of the mountain all by himself.
He's be proud of him if it weren't for how terrified he was gradually getting. Strong or not, the kid was not only a prevolve, but a grass type as well. Even he himself was starting to have some trouble with the overwhelming freezing temperature, and he had a high level.
If they didn't find the kid soon, he might-
Wartortle shakes that thought off before it can even finish itself. No, he wasn't going to let that happen.
Not again.
Chimchar suddenly starts shaking his shoulder, trying to get the older pokémon's attention to what he was pointing at.
"Another Snover!" He shouts, trying to make himself be hear despite the harsh wind.
This one was a little odd. Instead of continuously looking at nothing the others, they were staring at the ground. It looked like they were covering something with their leaves.
Wartortle quickly ran to them, trying to shield the backpack from the harsh wind as best he could on the way.
"Oh, Blue Shell Man Guy! From the legends! I can't believe-"
The older pokémom interrupts them, exasperated and out of breath.
"Yeah, I know- look have you seen a green kid around here? A Turtwig?"
The Snover suddenly stops and tilts their head. They slowly uncover what they had been covering with their paws, only to reveal a small, shivering green creature.
"Do you mean him?"
He had partially buried himself under some dirt in an attempt to keep the little warmth his body still had, appeared quite pale, was clearly freezing and barely awake, but he was alive.
He was alive. "Turtwig!"

oh?? other aus?? i am Looking? i am Looking Closely?
UBGIUBLB Well I guess I can try and explain one of them. (The drawings are kinda rushed so sorry) This is kind of a long one, so bear with me: I don't really know how to call it, but rn I'm just naming it the "lone bulbasaur au". Ok so Some backstory. During the war Squirtle and Bulbasaur were still pretty close. They weren't able to see eachother as often as before, but they would still hang out every couple of days. Since Bulbasaur was someone Squirtle knew and cared about before everything went down, he was actually able to have full conversations with him. He didn't usually say much, but it was a huge improvement compared to how he would interact with everyone else.
Tumblr media
With all the planning during that period, Bluey and some others from the army ended up learning how to read and write with human language. Squirtle passed that knowledge to Bulbasaur the best he could, becuase if anything ever happened, it would probably be pretty useful to him.
Whiskers was able to befriend them at some point. Ever since hey joined the Caterpie Army, she had seen them as part of the family after all. With Bluey, that friendship had been pretty one-sided, but he did trust her somewhat, all things considered. She ended up actually becoming pretty good friends with Bulbasaur, though. Whiskers would keep him company whenever Bluey couldn't. Things weren't good, but in Bulbasaur's perspective, they weren't bad either. He really missed Charmander and was worried about Squirtle, but he figured that the worst was probably over. He just had to wait for this weird war to end so him and Squirtle could leave find somewhere nice to live. He just needed to be patient.
But everything changed when, one day, Squirtle just didn't come back from a battle. Whiskers told him that Bluey was just "out on a big mission" and that "he would be away for a long time". The story was strange, but since Whiskers was his friend, he chose to believe her.
Tumblr media
That mission lasted days, then weeks, and with Squirtle away and Whiskers busier than usual, Bulbasaur started feeling really lonely.
Tumblr media
But oh! Squirtle started sending him letters! Whiskers would deliver them to him and help him write letters back.
Things were starting to look up! Whenever Bulbasaur felt too lonely or sad a new letter would arrive and brush it all away. It was like magic.
It only lasted about two months, though. When they lost Whiskers Bulbasaur stopped receiving letters. The war didn't last all that long after that, and Bulbasaur was let go.
When he realized that Squirtle wasn't with the survivors od the army, Bulbasaur decided to pack the few things he had, including the letters, and look for his companion alone.
Present:
Tumblr media
He's been looking for Squirtle for a few years now, but is still determined to find him. He ended up meeting the Sinnoh duo and now takes care of them. He tells both of them stories about his childhood and how "Oh you'll just love Squirtle once you meet him!", the kids don't really like this 'Squirtle' guy, because they suspect that he just flat out abandoned Bulbasaur, but they're mostly quiet about him. Chimchar's favorite stories are the ones involving Charmander.
Bulbasaur dislikes fighting, but was actually able to become quite strong over the years. He hasn't evolved yet because he fears that Squirtle will not recognize him if he does.
He's a pretty good dad all things considered, but his overly-positive attitude does annoy the kids from time to time.
