it’s so weird to think that ryuji was only a major character in one canon game. like he’s such a strong character with such a strong personality it doesn’t feel like he was only prominent in one canon game at ALL. he feels almost as ever-present and beloved as someone like daigo and yet he’s basically never even mentioned after kiwami 2. that’s so crazy to me.

#am I saying bring ryuji back? yes. end of statement #same goes for mine to a slightly lesser degree. and somehow yokoyama agrees with me on both of these I think #I am biased in a way because I am one of the few who has been lucky enough to play dead souls but. yeah #those two are also just good examples of antagonists that are almost comically malicious but still somehow have depth under the surface #and redeemability. in a way. not saying mine bulldozing an orphanage is Forgivable im saying he Did start to have a change of heart at the #end of y3 so he’s Capable of change and whatnot. and ryuji’s just a bully who takes his feelings out on other people usually physically #like he’s very much a teenage bully in the body of a gigantic adult man.#cause he never had to grow out of that. no one challenged him/his views/etc enough to do so. until the end of yk2 #AND IN DEAD SOULS ITS JUST A FACT THAT HES GROWN AS A PERSON AND MATURED.#it’s somehow a DRASTIC difference in personality from him in yk2 and yet still believable because of how much in his life had to change #and because he is like. the adult version of the previous ryuji. I know ryuji was already 30 in yk2 but you get my point. he wasn’t grown up #not really. (same goes for daigo- they’re such obvious foils for one another it’s so interesting and I wish it was explored more but ANYWAY)#ryuji #yk2 #rambling

it is immensely unfortunate that kiwami and kiwami 2 don't let you rematch bosses. im recording cutscenes for my nefarious purposes and would love footage of majima fights that don't require me to start an entirely new save and everything

#its such a throwaway sounding ship. it comes from a line masumi has in y7 #when he says he specifically went to daigo / chose him / etc because daigo is the same age masato #and because he thought that daigo would understand masa in ways other people wouldnt #its such a charged throw away segment but its like #huh? whuh? why do you say that. what does that mean masumi.#anyway they met as teens. theyre both shitty little emo boys #their relationship spiraled and ended about a year or two before y7 and masa rebounded w yumeno #and their relationship starts up again around y4 / shortly after y3 because daigo recognizes him on tv immediately

Pros of me playing Stardew Valley: my brain gets so focused on completing tasks and the routine of "wake up, check tv/farm computer, interact with spouse/kid/dog, harvest crops/animal products, etc, etc" that my anxiety actually lessens for a while! I'm so focused that there's no space for intrusive thoughts! Hurray!

was thinking about the byronic hero as an archetype i love and remembered for the first time in months that article i found that called kiryu one. it was like getting flashbanged with a cautionary tale

#my own brain telling me to restrain myself lest i start calling all my vaguely tragic loner blorbos byronic heroes #not sure how to explain it all and i mean who cares anyway it's not like there's a checklist but he isn't one to me #he's too vulnerable and earnest? and his compassion and selflessness are too direct and obvious #(like in his interactions w others. BHs are sensitive but they have more walls than kiryu)#he's not (..meant to be seen as) selfish or morally gray in the way BHs are imo #yes he thinks he knows better than the ppl he beats up but in context we're supposed to agree with him #he's saving the day both physically and ideologically. it's not arrogance if the story agrees w him unreservedly #there's a lot of little things too re: his presentation. he's not aristocratic/sophisticated #and i feel like he's not quite so prone to like.. corruption/temptation or even mood swings as a BH #he's a much more steadfast figure than a lot of traditional BHs and he doesn't have the typical motivations of a more modern one #i.e. lust for power or greed or disregard of others in the pursuit of some lofty goal or whatever. people ARE his goal #his whole world revolves around helping and protecting people #and i mean. we can argue about the nuances of that (its origin or deeper purpose or ineffectiveness etc) but again in context i really #think it's not presented with the sorta.. misgivings of a story following a BH. y'know?#there are so many other video game characters alone that fit this archetype better than him too like. c'mon #ive seen mr vergil may cry and shadow the hoghedge labelled BHs and i can vouch for the former at least #i haven't seen this said before but game 1 edgeworth fits into this pretty well too #anyway. getting very finicky about it #all im saying is i don't think a single BH would earnestly explain how meaningful racing toy cars with children is to their homoerotic rival #despite an initial belief that said rival would ruin the magic by intruding on this hobby #like maybe. MAYBE. if you do exactly None of the side content for any of the games and ignore the orphanage parts of y3 completely #you can ALMOST view kiryu as a byronic hero. maybe. but he is constantly bonding with people via his open compassion #he just is not a BH. thank you

#like yeah Maji is my sploinky blimbo pooky and im rabid over so many of these men but its just SOMETHING about Mine that makes me insane fr #like seriously if i start thinking about him too much i get emotional he's so wife to me. such a beautiful man devoted to his chairman #no fr though if i think about how depressed he got after Daigo smiled at him at the end of y3 ill lose it it was so good #fun fact btw im actually planning on getting a Kirin as the centerpiece of my tattoo once i get the money #is it a dedication to Mine? not originally but honestly it might as well be LMAOOOO #not rlly though bc im getting full sleeves too but havent picked their design yet. stuck between dragon or snake with cherry blossoms #bc the symbolism for either fits well i just dont know what would look better w/ the back and thigh panels #probably leave that up to the artist during my consult tbh tbh i trust him hes been doing it for almost 30 years #WOW I RAMBLE lmao sorry but cool if you read all that feel free to drop ur opinion on what my sleeves should be ig?#bulletin board

okay that's great and all but hear me out. what if they had pokemon. [id in alt, more under the cut!]

hi. (wearing a shirt that says "ask me about my yakuza pokemon au" but i'm looking in a mirror so i just start going nuts right off the bat)

woah it's some guy with a dragon tattoo!! lotsa dragons, lotsa fighters, and of course THE parent pokemon!! the zangoose is part of a matching set with majima's seviper, naturally. also it matches his autism stare. blaziken's there out of respect for nugget.

GO GO HARUKA!!! lotsa baby pokemon when she's younger :] the pichu turns into an idol pikachu mainly because i wanted something for her that'd fall in line with that but i also think igglybuff is ugly. sorry. happiny's there in particular because of the crazy eldest daughter syndrome she catches from y3 onwards LOL. that caretaker role hit her hard. sorry girl.

seviper's part of the matching set with kiryu's zangoose, naturally :] plus it fits the snake thing he's got going on with his tattoo. also some dogs!! specifically some fucked up ones!! also did you know froslass only goes after men it thinks is handsome. yeah.

daigo's so funny in y2 imo. aegislash is there in particular because it detects innate qualities of leadership!! anyway that bisharp becomes a kingambit when he's chairman (thumbs up!!)

tiger man gets the tiger man. cat. lots of big burly guys for the big burly guy. etc etc. i like that his training in y4 is just to go mining so i HAD to have at least one fossil mon. hi bastiodon!!!

yasuko's getting hit with the one-two of Beauty(TM) and Small(TM) versions of what her older brother's got :']

tanimura gets a lot of fighty guys, in particular i tried to find ones that sorta fit with the little asia stuff he's got going on. blastoise is there because of the tortoise thing and he's got a gun so ??? actually i might switch blastoise out if i end up exploring this au more LOL and zebstrika's there because he's a horse girl <3

akiyama!! a bunch of kicky guys to fit his fighting style and talonflame because of his phoenix thing. audino because he's the lifeline of kamurocho :]

hana!! why does she not have a last name!!! anyway lotsa guys to match her fighting style :]

magikarp -> gyarados is literally THE most obvious thing to pick out for nishikiyama but if it works it works!!!

makoto and tachibana get a matching set of eeveelutions :] i think a shaymin shows itself before makoto either when she gets her watch back or when she gets the new watch strap

i'm not 100% sure for most of these teams if anyone wants to share their own ideas i'm all ears!!

re: last anon i definitely think it comes from the uhhh whole threatened thingy. Since most of y3 is. Well. Uhm. Daigo Coma Hours we spend a lot of time w/ that guy in a threatened state. Hence the more “violent” interpretations bc. Well. his sillyguy’s in a coma. Though I’ve definitely seen Mine’s more… stressed (for lack of better words) state being misinterpreted as his natural state and I can see how that would lead to more frequent violent kirinmine takes etc. (Hopefully this is coherent I am soooooooooo tired rn)

#snap chats #even throughout y3 tho mine's generally calm even when we know he's probably stressed out internally #he's very level-headed despite it all- it's only the end with kiryu where he really loses it and we see How stressed out he is #like of course there's the plane That Was Unnecessary but its with kiryu where he gives a verbal outburst and he's at his wit's end #we know what im saying ? like even under presumed stress mine still presents as calm and as if he knows what to do next #the plane incident was mine acting 'in defense' of daigo not wholly an act of stress (tho he could have been as well)#like once mine stabs the man he's done and over with it and calmly goes back to his seat. he's very 'careful' in how he acts #he doesn't do more than necessary and has restraint. for the most part #it takes a lot for him to be skittish or 'pressed against the wall' so to speak- like with kiryu calling him out #we see this 'calm visage' break when he shoots at kiryu and yells- and we KNOW this was done out of stress because he misses #Shit Shot Mine jokes aside he can aim when he wants to as shown by rggo- he was really just In The Shit in this moment mentally #also with 'violent mine' takes Personally i think its just funny JVLEKJVAEKL like pl e a s e relax.. ... it is not that serious mine...#and theres little else much cooler than seeing a giraffe god start stomping people and how else to do that but through violence #honestly i feel like ive actually seen more depictions of kirin mine be gentle and just Chilling.....#BUT thats /my/ internet experience. Long Unnecessary Ramble over sorry i didnt meant to write a thesis #i just like thinking about mine...

laying myself to rest with some more visuals of majima facing mine at morning glory while kiryu was downtown. he's biting someone's throat while pulling the tanto out of their thigh. he's also covered in blood and making everyone really uncomfortable about the fact he's having a good time hurting and maiming this horde of men. he will hold them off until kiryu gets back and he will collapse from the strain of it all once he's gotten a chance to lock eyes with kiryu and give him the terrifying realization that this is you, this is what you do to people, we are the same and you are not and never will be better than me. the yakuza 3 of my mind that gives just a little bit more and gets a little bit twisted

#soda.txt #yakuza #as in. kiryu faces dangers alone and gets hurt. majima will do the same for him. etc #maybe i should. write about this. maybe i finish y3 in the afternoon before i start writing #so i know if this is feasible at all #like rikiya would get to stick around in this scenario i think and i don't think that's a plot-heavy death so
