Won't Let Go- Dabi x Fem!Reader
Warnings!: Pure angst. No happy ending, blood, major death, yelling, crying, argument, harsh words, not willing to accept death.
Umm yeah I have zero idea if I'm good at angst or not... I'll probably make an alternate ending for people like me, but until then I'm sorry.
I kinda rushed bc I wanted to keep my brain going.. it's unedited like usual too.. so sorry for the errors. I might edit it later.. but idk.
You and Dabi get into a nasty fight. You leave for some air, but get attacked by a fellow villain.
1,800+ words/Pure angst
It started simply, just another stressful day, and just another argument. Both of us hissing insults back and forth, hurting one another in ways only we knew how.
He made a jab at that one insecurity that no one knows about except him, and I jab at his incapability to take me out on a normal date. He then throws out a harsher, more personal insult, and I insult the fact that he can't properly provide for the two of us.
It went back and forth, words only get shaper and more venomous to the point where I'm in tears, and Dabi is still sneering at me. "DO YOU EVEN CARE!? YOU LOOK PSYCHOTIC RIGHT NOW!" I scream, e/c eyes locked onto his turquoise ones.
"NO! I DON'T CARE, NEVER HAVE, NEVER WILL!"
"DO YOU EVEN HEAR YOURSELF?!"
"LOUD AND CLEAR! YOU'RE NOTHING TO ME (Y/N)!" As Dabi's words sinked in, my tears continued to fall, increasing in speed. "Aww look at you. You're so sensitive " Dabi cooed, venom lacing his words.
As my anger grew my body started to shake. Standing up, I walked over to our shared closet. "You know what Dabi? I'm done. I'm done with how you hurt me, physically and emotionally, and yet I stick by your side, holding you during every nightmare as you burn me. You burn me to the point of tears, and yet I still hold you. You insult me time and time again, and yet I'm still there to hold you after a particularly nasty mission. I hold you when you need me, and yet I need you and your somehow entitled to shatter my heart? Enjoy life alone. I now see why you were alone, you only hurt the people that actually care about you." I seethe, pulling on a hoodie, making sure that it was one of mine.
"Where are you going?" Dabi chuckled, turquoise eyes hardened in anger. "Away from you. Just know that it's your fault that this happened to us." I reply, eyes tearful as I took one last look at the man I adored.
"Goodbye." I whispered. As Dabi moved to say something further, I walked out the door, closing it softly before leaving, much to Twice and Toga's confusion.
"(Y/n) chan! Where are you going!?" Toga asked, skipping over to my shaking form. I just ignored her, picking up my pace slightly. "(Y/n) chan?" Twice muttered, eyes focussed on my back.
I just continued forward, stepping outside into the rain. Sighing, I started walking forward, toward the alley ways, failing to notice the eyes on my tired form.
Dabi's P.O.V:
As the door closed, I immediately crumbled onto our shared bed, regret coursing through my being. I stepped out of line. Yes, so did (y/n), but I started it.
As I remembered the cruel words I said to my precious (y/n), I scoffed as I felt a drop of blood fall down my cheek. Shooting myself up, I yanked at my hair as I paced around the room, waiting for my precious (y/n) to come back.
After about forty minutes, I started to freak out. (Y/n) usually comes back after a 10-15 minute cool down, and then continued to ignore me until I brought her into my lap, kissing her softly as a silent apology.
She would silently forgive me, and we would go back to normal. It was unusual for her to be gone for so long. Pulling out my phone, I left her a text telling her to come back, before continuing to pace back and forth.
Reader's P.O.V:
I huffed as the villain in front of me searched for an opening to strike. Right as I started to head back to my precious Dabi, I was jumped by a fellow villain.
My arm was cut badly, my stomach ached from a kick, and my left eye was bleeding, which affected my sight immensely. As the man launched himself toward me, I kicked his groin, temporarily stunning him.
As he fell to the ground, I smashed his head into the ground with my foot before fleeing towards the bar, praying that I would run into one of my fellow colleagues. As I ran my stomach ached, and sweat stung my eye, but I continued to run, avoiding calling out due to my villainous reputation.
Right as I turned the corner to get to the bar, I felt a rough hand pull at my shoulder. "Got you." The man hissed, face right below my ear. I shivered in disgust, pushing against his masculine form in a vain attempt to get away.
"I'll bloody you up real good, and then I'll chain you out of your little boyfriend's window." The man sneered, dark eyes shining as he dreamt of Dabi's horror.
"You're sick." I spit, kneeing the man in his stomach. Unfortunately, the hit wasn't strong enough to drop him to the ground, and it only angered him further.
"You little-" I couldn't help but whimper pitifully as he stabbed a knife into my arm, spilling blood onto the concrete. "You'll pay for that." The man promised, twisting the knife in my arm, producing small whimpers from my shaking form.
Dabi's P.O.V:
I awoke with a start, looking around the dark room in confusion. I don't know what woke me, but I do know that something was terribly wrong.
Unlocking my phone, I went into a panic as I saw my text not being read after an hour or so later. (Y/n) always kept up with her texts.. what was going on?
Scrambling to our closet, I pulled out a black hoodie before slipping it on, pulling up the hood as I exited our shared room, rushing towards the door. "Where are you going?" Shigaraki rasped, light blue hair covering his eyes as he lightly scratched his neck.
Ignoring him, I made my way out the door, picking up my pace as I heard a commotion nearby. As I jogged around the alleyways, I started sprinting as I heard whimpering becoming closer and closer.
Turning a corner, my blood boiled with rage as I spotted my (y/n) on the ground, blood pooling under her quivering being. A man was standing next to her, glaring down at my (y/n) as he held his bloodied arm.
As I ran toward the pair, I freaked out seeing blood leaking from (y/n)'s chest quite quickly, staining her clothes. Burning the man, I made sure to keep him alive for later. Kneeling down next to (y/n), I panicked at the amount of blood seeping from her stab wound.
Reader's P.O.V:
Breathing heavily, I looked up at the wet form in front of me, only realizing it was Dabi as I heard his shaky voice call out to me. "D-Dabi..." I whisper, e/c eyes moist as I studied his face, blood running down his face.
"Don't talk! Save your strength!" He demanded, pulling off his hoodie to press to my chest. "Dabi.. are you crying?" I ask, pressing my thumb to the blood falling down his cheeks. "No! Now be quiet!" Dabi yelled, blood coming faster as his hoodie soaked up the blood way too fast.
Dabi's P.O.V:
Dread sunk in my chest as I absorbed the situation, realizing that unless I turned us both in, or found some miracle, she couldn't be saved. Pulling my precious (y/n) into my lap, I cradled her gently, rocking her back and forth.
"Dabi... I'm sorry." (Y/n) murmured, (e/c) eyes moist with regret. "Don't you apologize; don't you dare." I growl, hugging her tighter. "B-but I said some really horrible things to you..."
"And I said worse things! Just- just be quiet while I try and think!" As my thoughts ran wild the only thing I could think of doing is to take her to a hospital, but then we'd be recognized and earn ourselves a life in jail.
But, it was better than losing her. Swooping (y/n) up, I started to run towards the nearest hospital, trying to devise a better plan. I'd- I'd sneak in through a window, and single out a doctor. I'd first persuade the doctor with money, and than threaten them.
If that doesn't work I'll kill them and find another. That- t-that would work.. it has to work... As I solidified my plan I looked down to see (y/n) getting worse, her (s/t) skin was pale, and her gorgeous eyes were almost fully closed.
"H-hey.. open your eyes." I mumbled, freaking out. "(Y/n). Open your eyes!" I demanded, stopping to crouch in an alleyway as I heard sirens nearby.
"(Y/N)-" "Dabi... I'm sorry I tried to push you into sharing things you didn't want to share-" she stopped to cough up blood before continuing, "I'm sorry I said so many horrible things to you.. and I'm sorry for not being the idle partner for you.. please know that I love you.. and no. You don't have to say it back my Love."
As (y/n) forced her eyes open, dread consumed me as the light started ebbing away and they started to close. "Don't you dare apologize! You did nothing wrong! It was me, I was the one in the wrong! And I'm sorry! So, so sorry! You were, and are the perfect partner! And I love you, I love you so freaking much! So please... STAY WITH ME!" I screamed, blood leaking from my eyes and falling into (y/n)'s (h/l) (h/c) hair.
After a few seconds of silence, I pulled (y/n) away, just enough for me to look her in her eyes and hurriedly check her pulse. As I felt her still pulse my heart stopped. (Y/n) was dead.. the one person I loved was dead.. Desperately, I attempted to give her CPR, deep down knowing that she was gone for good.
As I labored to try and revive (y/n), I screamed on top of my lungs for her to come back to me. Failing to notice Twice, Toga, Kurogiri, and Shigaraki coming up from behind me.
After a few more minutes of my screams Twice came up and grasped my shoulder, tears falling down his face. "I CAN STILL SAVE HER!" I yell, shoving Twice away, causing Toga to frown and catch him.
"Dabi. She's gone." Toga murmured, tears staining her face. "NO! NO SHE CAN STILL BE SAVED!" I paused to desperately bring her into my lap, cradling her cold body to my chest, trying to warm her up.
Rocking us back and forth, I murmured sweet things to her, kissing her head gently. "OVER HERE!" A voice yelled, growing closer quickly. "Kurogiri." Shigaraki rasped, an unpleasant look on his face.
Kurogiri then silently transported everyone except me, (y/n) and himself. "Dabi.. you're coming." Kurogiri muttered, sending out a portal underneath me. I just hissed and cling to (y/n) tighter, hugging her still body to my chest.

Attack on Prime Incorrect Quotes: The Saga Continues
Main Story
Part Whenever
Hanji: I'm tired.
Optimus: You slept for three hours last night! Why are you surprised?!
Hanji: I'm not surprised. I just wanted to complain about it.
==
Levi: I want you to know that I’m judging you
Megatron: Don’t you always judge me??
Levi: Yes, but you’ve been extra quirky today so I have to let you know that it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
==
Hanji: Would you rather kill Eren, or—
Megatron: Yes, kill him.
Armin: They didn’t say the other option.
Megatron: I don’t need to hear it.
Eren: …I’m feeling a little unsafe.
===
Zeke: I can't believe you assassinated the Commander of Marley!
Megatron: Well, 'assassinated' implies it was politically motivated. I killed him because he was a dick, so technically I murdered him.
Zeke: That's not better!
===
Survey Corps: Can we ask you for a favor?
Optimus: I would literally die for you but continue.
Levi: We have got to talk about you starting sentences that way.
==
Beloved Timeline
Optimus: What am I supposed to do all day while you're off in Marley?
Elita:...I don't know? What do you normally do when I'm gone?
Optimus *Sniffing and tears up*: Wait for you to get back.
==
War Timeline
Hanji: We have fun, don’t we, Doc?
Ratchet: I have never been more stressed out in my entire life.
Jack: Wow, Miko, looks like you've been dethroned.
==
Armin: I...I think we have to kill Eren.
Megatron:
===
Pieck: So...how did you two meet?
Optimus glancing over at Megatron: ...You know, we actually legally can't answer that.
===
Beloved Timeline
Elita: Go on! Shout, scream, say something! Stunned as Optimus puts his servo on her cheek.
Optimus to Elita: You're as beautiful as the day I lost you.
Survey Corps:
==
Megatron: I don’t think you apologizing to me is a good idea.
Armin: Uh…why?
Megatron: Because when you do that, I inevitably feel bad and forgive you, and I really want to be mad.
Armin: But why would you want to be mad? I hate being angry, it ruins everything.
Megatron: Exactly. Ruining everything is kind of my thing, I can’t lose it.
==
Peaceful Timeline
Maria: Oshern, can you do me a favor?
Oshern: Of course, mo leanbh (my young child). Always.
Maria: Cool. Can you stop denying your feelings and tell Mama (Ymir) you love her — like love love her in that kind of way so the two of you can stop pining?
Oshern, spit-takes
Optimus: Maria, what?
Maria: Focus, Papa. This is important.
===
Megatron: I need help.
Levi: Two words.
Megatron I bet they won't be helpful.
Levi: Your. Problem.
Megatron: I was right.
===
(Based on a prompt of Hanji experimenting with dark energon and seeing Unicron)
Unicron: Hey, I bought your soul last month and-
Hanji: No returns.
Unicron: Please, it’s making me sad.
===
A million years later after the Dark Timeline Epilogue
Optimus: You're worth every tear I've cried since you died. You've always been.
Megatron: Optimus...
Optimus: *almost crying* So don't tell me you're not worth my tears, because you are. You're worth the tears of relief, and, and happiness. I missed you everyday.
Megatron: *hugs Optimus*
Optimus: *crying* I missed you, I'm happy, these are, these are tears, they're—
Megatron: *holds Optimus tighter* Happy tears. I know brother. I know now.
===
Arcee: Where's Buckethead?
Hanji: Don't worry, I'll find him.
Hanji, shouting: Optimus sucks!
Megatron, distantly: How fragging dare you!
Hanji: Told you he still cared about him.
====
Optimus dealing with another death/respawn situation: What's up guys, I'm back.
Hanji, crying: What the- you can't be here. You're dead. I literally saw you die.
Optimus: Death is a social construct.
====
Eren: I'm not traumadumping.
Eren: I'm telling you my villain origin story.
Arcee: That's fragging worse!
====
Levi: Someone will die -
Hanji: Of fun!
===
Random Marleyan: Wait, you're gay? Are you fucking serious?
Optimus: I'm bisexual, actually. And yes.
====
Peaceful Timeline
Ymir: ...You came...
Optimus: You called.
===
Megatron: The dwarf is telling me I'm going to die.
Armin:...Are...are you sick?
Megatron smirking: No, he just doesn't like me.
Levi: IMMA FUCK YOU UP ON TUESDAY!
===
Hanji: You are, of course, wondering why it is I have brought you here tonight.
Optimus: Actually Hanji, after all these weeks, I just sort of go with it.
===
Eren: Arcee, I just realized something. I had a bad childhood.
Arcee: Yeah, I know.
Eren: What do you mean you know?
Arcee: Look at you.
Eren: What do you mean look at me?
Arcee: Look at how you stand! People with good childhoods don't stand like that.
===
Arcee: *speaking Cybertronian*
Eren: I know, I know.
Wheeljack baffled: You speak Cybertronian?
Eren: No. I just know the phrase, 'this is all your fault' in every language.
===
*at Megatron and Eren's funeral in the Dark Timeline*
Armin: Optimus...it... it was a beautiful service.
Optimus: *staring up at thunderclouds* I'm glad it didn't rain. They hated the rain. *reaches up to wipe away tears* Why do I feel this way Armin?
Armin: Because you loved them, Optimus.
===
Hanji to Optimus: You are my best friend! If I'm dying, you're dying with me! Ain’t no choice!
===
Peaceful Timeline
Megatron to Maria: I was never afraid until you showed up.
===
Eren: When have I ever done something rash or irresponsible?
Optimus channeling his inner archivist: I keep a list. It’s alphabetized.

I really struggled because I legit could have said something to every paragraph lol
Bob looked up to see Nat in front of him with a little smirk painted on her lips. He'd been spending the last twenty minutes trying to act normal, something he forgot how to do after Anna kissed him in the kitchen. Because it wasn't just a kiss, it was everything. It felt like she really wanted him.
This is so freaking adorable
Jealous. She wants you. And my god, she's hot. What the fuck do they do at San Diego State? Only interview you if you've got your PhD and a modeling contract?"
She's not wrong lol
I'm still pushing the academic lover for Natasha agenda
Bob knew he was blushing, and he was happy she wasn't calling him out on it. His friends were all talking about him and Anna behind his back at this point, trying to figure out what was going on. "We kind of just made out in the kitchen," he muttered
He's so cute, I can't 🥰
"Yes!" Nat said with absolutely no subtlety, slapping Bob's shoulder. "Oh fuck, the two of you will have the cutest kids! Freckles and strawberry blonde hair!"
They will (not would, WILL) have the cutest kids!! Braided strawberry blonde hair and glasses on cute little noses speckled with freckles 🥰
"It's not like we're together or anything," he muttered. "Yet," Nat told him, looking so certain. "Not yet."
This!!!
Why was he so awkward? Why was that exchange so weird? How was he supposed to make Anna want to kiss him again when he could barely string two normal sentences together?
Bob is literally me on a date lol
"Okay," Bradley said, his voice a little rough and his face annoyed when Anna looked up. "I'm a lot better at cooking than Jake is, first of all. Second of all, why don't you have dinner at his lame ass condo, and then let me know what he cooked. Then I'll cook a much better version of it for you and Sugar one night."
Bahahahha I'm here for the food battle
"You're always welcome. You're one of us." He said it so casually before he started scraping the grill and cleaning it up, Anna just stared at the pattern of his tie dye shirt for a few seconds. He considered her part of this group now? This ridiculously cool friend group? If she thought about it for too long, she knew she would start crying.
So happy for Anna🥹
"Anna...when you say you didn't mind it when I touched you...what does that mean? And what happened back at the cookout? Am I allowed to kiss you now? Or am I supposed to just figure out how to get over you?"
Ahhhhhh go Bob, go!
She couldn't stand him thinking she didn't want him for another second. He was all she wanted.
Bob's hands were planted on the seat at his sides, and he wasn't moving an inch as Anna straddled his legs. It was dark out, but she could see his gaze dip down to her cleavage before he met her eyes. When he spoke, his voice was deep with need. "Is it okay if I touch you now?"
Consent king Bob 🤤🫡
She could feel him. He was getting hard for her, and it was delicious. Her brain supplied every suggestive line of poetry it had ever absorbed in her lifetime, and all she wanted was to make him get harder.
😮💨😮💨😮💨
"Will you let me walk you to your door? I've been wanting to do that for weeks."
Actually, it was more like a whine, and it reverberated off of the walls beautifully. "Yes, Anna?" he whispered, letting her lace their fingers together. He wanted to do this all the time. He wanted to be her boyfriend.
And he should be her boyfriend!!!
He was going to have to ask Jake or Bradley how long he needed to wait before asking Anna out. They would know what to do. And he had Nat back now as well. He had enough resources that he would figure it out.
It's a team effort 🫡
Bob sighed, knowing this man was going to be no help after all. "I already talked to Nat," Bob replied as they walked out of the locker room.
I'm glad he realized that Bradley and Jake are no real help lmao
Bob cradled his forehead in his hand. "Her name is Anna. And no, because I'm actually trying to date her."
Go on Bob, tell them!! 👏🏻
"Why not both?" Nat asked, leading the way out to the parking lot. "Give that girl what she so desperately wants."
I love you Nat and I'm not totally disagreeing but let that man just date a girl
Furthering my academic lover for Nat agenda, because maybe she's just horny and needs her own person with PhD and modeling contract lmao
It was like he was living in a choose your own adventure story, but somehow none of the options were correct.
Wow, I felt that
Jake met Bob's wide eyed gaze and smiled. "You should go to her office hours," the other man drawled. "That's like a green light for fucking on her desk."
Lol at least something that Jake and Bradley agree on
This book made me feel like it's okay to be completely caught up in another person to the point where you forget where you are or what you're doing. Also, I'm going to think of you every time I see a dog eared page for the rest of my life.
😭😭😭
He legit has the best book notes!! Now I want a book note by Bob
After that, Anna spent the entire night on Sunday reading her favorite poems and touching herself. Sky Writing seemed to have fallen in love, based on his new post. That idea wasn't surprising at all. Anna was convinced he was the perfect man, so it was just a matter of time. But the thing that did surprise her was the way he wrote about a certain woman with red hair. Late into the night, she was laying in her tiny bed with her fingers inside the font of her underwear, picturing Bob as she read the words to herself.
Hehe😌😏
"Can you blame her?" Jessica asked. "She kissed Bob." "Not one bit," the other woman said with a grin, as if Anna wasn't even there. "He's a damn catch. Sweetest man ever." Anna rolled her eyes and said, "As if you aren't married to the human equivalent of a golden retriever."
I love this, this is so perfect!!
"If the two of you weren't attractive looking," she said, pointing to Bradley and Jake, "Sugar and Jessica would have bailed before they bothered to uncover actual brain cells underneath the pretty hair." Both men looked startled before eventually nodding in agreement.
Bahahahhaha I can't 😂😂😂
This is so true and it makes it even better that they literally agree 😂
"You need to get good flowers and plan to invite her for dinner. Not one or the other," Nat finished, pounding her fist into her other palm. "No wonder Bob never gets laid when I'm not around to straighten everything out."
Nat is a force 😂
"Can we not talk about that?" he mumbled, adjusting his glasses. "And it's not like I just want to...get laid. By just anybody."
🥺🥺🥺
"Yeah, yeah," Natasha said, tapping away on her phone. "You're a romantic. Go get her flowers like these ones."
Nat certainly is not big on romance lol
Several people turned and looked at him in his khaki uniform with the huge bouquet of flowers in his hand, and this would have been a lot less stressful if Anna was actually his girlfriend and not a woman he thought might never be that.
He's melting my heart 🥺
She kissed him like they did this all the time, and his hands went right to her waist where they fit perfectly. "Thank you," she murmured against his lips. "Nobody ever got me books before you."
I mean, what other signs does she need to know that they are meant for each other?! 🥹🥰
The words before you echoed in his brain. He didn't want there to be an after. He wanted this to be the real deal where neither of them had to be in a relationship where they weren't constantly trading books back and forth with someone.
🥹🥰🥹🥰🥹🥰
She kissed him softly and said, "Okay."
Anna stop this!!! Bob don't let her do this to you!! Im dying over here😭

"I'm waiting for you to thank me."
"Thank you for what?" he asked cautiously.
Nat laughed heartily like he'd just told a very amusing joke. "For pushing you and Anna together. Bradley told me the situation, and that woman was jealous of me touching you. Her face was all pinched, and her lips were pressed into a tight line. Jealous. She wants you. And my god, she's hot. What the fuck do they do at San Diego State? Only interview you if you've got your PhD and a modeling contract?"
Bob knew he was blushing, and he was happy she wasn't calling him out on it. His friends were all talking about him and Anna behind his back at this point, trying to figure out what was going on. "We kind of just made out in the kitchen," he muttered, glancing across the yard at Anna who was talking to Jess and still holding the can of ginger ale he gave her.
"Yes!" Nat said with absolutely no subtlety, slapping Bob's shoulder. "Oh fuck, the two of you will have the cutest kids! Freckles and strawberry blonde hair!"
He had to close his eyes against the idea of it, willing the flush in his cheeks to subside. When he opened them again, Anna was looking right at him. Her gaze was a little unsure, and he was starting to get afraid she wouldn't let him drive her home later. But he wanted to walk her up to her door. He had been thinking about it since the very first time he drove her home.
"It's not like we're together or anything," he muttered.
"Yet," Nat told him, looking so certain. "Not yet."
It was getting late, the sun dipping lower in the sky. The temperatures would start cooling down once it was dark, and Anna was only wearing shorts. Bob's eyes easily found those freckles on her thighs once again. Her skin looked so damn soft. He wondered if he would feel goosebumps beneath his fingers if he traced that pretty pattern, gently connecting her freckles with an imaginary line. He had to swallow hard as she started heading his way.
Nat squeezed his wrist and muttered something about work, and then she vanished into the house. With Anna standing right in front of him, Bob wished he could just lean in and kiss her the way Jake always did with Jess, and the way Bradley always did with his wife. He wanted it. With Anna.
"I'm getting a little chilly," she told him. "I guess I overestimated how warm autumn was going to be in San Diego. It's still better than New Jersey though." She was talking to him like she hadn't been rubbing the front of those little shorts against the fly of his jeans barely an hour ago, and now he was sweating.
"You should wear jeans next time," he replied before realizing how stupid he sounded. "Not that you should be covering your legs or anything like that! You have very nice legs. Nice freckles? I just don't want you to be cold."
He cradled his forehead in his hand while Anna laughed softly. "I'll wear jeans next time. Do you think you could give me a ride home soon?"
"Sure," he promised immediately. "Absolutely."
"Great." Then she turned, and Bob heard her saying goodbye to Jessica. Why was he so awkward? Why was that exchange so weird? How was he supposed to make Anna want to kiss him again when he could barely string two normal sentences together?
--------------------------
Anna was trying to make a quick getaway, craving another few minutes alone with Bob. His truck was cozy, and she knew it would feel warm. His voice was sexy, and so was the way he moved. She wanted to kiss him again, even though she knew it was a terrible idea.
"Take some leftovers!"
"No, I'm fine," Anna told the hosts as Bradley tried to talk her into taking some of the extra burgers home. "But thank you." She was terrified that Jess may have said something about how sad Anna's lunches were; she had been doing her best to hide her current financial state from her friends, but she must have slipped up somehow.
"Well, will you come over for dinner one night? I love cooking for Sugar, but I always end up making way too much food."
Anna looked down at her feet. "Sure. I could do that. Jake invited me over there, too. I know he always cooks for Jess."
She was trying not to laugh; she knew they were competitive, but she didn't know it was quite this bad. "That sounds great, Bradley. Thanks for inviting me over today."
He just waved her off.
"Thanks," she whispered, turning and running directly into Bob's solid chest.
When she looked up at him as her fingers grazed along his shirt, he asked, "You ready to head out?"
"Yeah." Anna felt the slight pressure of Bob's hand at her lower back, guiding her toward the door.
"After you," he said softly.
Anna had to walk inside the house and past Natasha, who she had clearly embarrassed herself in front of before. But the brunette just waved goodbye like she was completely unfazed by the events from earlier. Like it was totally normal for Bob and Anna to be together, heading out front to his truck as the setting sunset turned the sky orange.
Bob pulled the door open and helped her into his truck, and Anna thought maybe it was okay for this to be normal? To get a ride home from Bob after kissing him in her friend's kitchen? To have a painfully unrelenting crush on him that made her feel like perhaps love was a choice that you made for yourself?
She watched him walk around the font of the truck, his glasses catching the last rays of sunlight as the streetlights started to warm up. He was beautiful. He climbed into the truck gracefully and looked at her bashfully. She was the reason he wasn't more confident right now; she knew it, and she was annoyed with herself for it.
He cleared his throat quietly and said, "Before I forget, I have your copy of Papillon." Then he reached for the glovebox, his knuckles brushing her bare knee. "Sorry," he whispered, pulling his hand away immediately.
Anna's heart was in her throat. How was she supposed to tell him that she liked it when he touched her, even by accident. He reached for the glovebox again, this time making sure his movements kept him clear of her leg. "It's okay," she told him, breathing deep. "I didn't mind it."
The only answer she got was Bob carefully handing her worn out book back to her. There was another little note folded up inside which made her remember she never read the one that was in Wuthering Heights before she left it in her office at work. He started the engine. The drive back to her place was too long, and too short at the same time. She was surprised to find that he was heading in the right direction without a reminder about her address. As the sky darkened, Anna tried to listen to the music playing on the radio, but all she could really hear was the sound of her own heart pounding.
When Bob parked the truck in front of her building, she watched him squeeze the steering wheel with both hands while he stared out the windshield. "Anna...when you say you didn't mind it when I touched you...what does that mean? And what happened back at the cookout? Am I allowed to kiss you now? Or am I supposed to just figure out how to get over you?"
She fumbled with her seatbelt, heart thundering at the sound of his unsure voice. She wanted to ask him why he even liked her, because she had literally nothing to offer someone like Bob Floyd. But instead she said, "I meant I like it when you touch me. Even if it's by accident."
He turned to look at her, and when he saw she was crawling across the seat, his eyes went wide, and his hands slid from the steering wheel. "Anna." He inhaled a sharp breath when she planted one hand between his thighs, brushing his jeans with her fingers. She couldn't stand him thinking she didn't want him for another second. He was all she wanted. Somehow moving to San Diego got her some actual friends and a job she liked, and now a decent man with only green flags was into her, and she just couldn't make him think she felt otherwise. Even if they couldn't be together.
"Please."
Anna's little cry of delight echoed through the cab of the truck as soon as Bob's hands settled on her bare thighs. His touch was light yet intentional, and it just left her wanting more. He was running his thumb along the frayed edge of her denim shorts, teasing her as he whispered, "I want to kiss you."
She didn't answer. Instead she reached for him, letting her fingers sink into his silky hair, leaning closer until her lips met his again. The kisses in the kitchen had been a little frantic, forcing her to get over the fact that Bob didn't want Natasha. He wanted Anna. But this was something different. Languid and slow. Needy yet decisive. She wanted to touch the rough stubble of his cheek, so she did. She wanted to feel his bottom lip tugged gently between hers, so she did. Then she parted her lips and tasted him.
The scrape of her nails along his jaw had his fingers sliding up inside the bottom of her shorts, and she wished she wasn't wearing them at all. She wanted to know the feel of his hands everywhere. "Anna," he murmured against her lips. She tugged on his hair and kissed him a little rougher, but she gasped and gave up control as soon as his big hands found their way over her shorts to her hips and yanked her snug against him. There was no more polite distance. No more breathing room. Just his hard body pressed to her soft one.
Bob's glasses were cool against her cheek, keeping her grounded as his fingers met the skin of her lower back while he tasted her tongue. His touch tickled her, and she rolled her hips forward, earning a grunt of pleasure from him. "Please," Anna whined, like it was the only word she even knew. Then her mouth was back on his. Bob's fingers traveled an inch higher, and she ground against him, but this time he broke the kiss.
When he tipped his head back, he looked bashful in the glow from the streetlights. She could feel him. He was getting hard for her, and it was delicious. Her brain supplied every suggestive line of poetry it had ever absorbed in her lifetime, and all she wanted was to make him get harder.
She was ready to start unzipping his jeans when he eased his hands away from her body and whispered, "Will you let me walk you to your door? I've been wanting to do that for weeks."
----------------------
It was slow going, trying to get to Anna's apartment door. They kept stopping to kiss, even going so far as to end up with her body pinned between his and the wall in the stairwell. Her soft laughter as he kissed the side of her neck echoed through the enclosed space, and then she said his name.
"Bob."
Actually, it was more like a whine, and it reverberated off of the walls beautifully. "Yes, Anna?" he whispered, letting her lace their fingers together. He wanted to do this all the time. He wanted to be her boyfriend.
She just made a strangled sound as he kissed as many of her freckles as he could get his lips on before pulling her away from the wall. Then they finally made it upstairs to her door. If she invited him inside, he wasn't sure what she would expect. As much as he was ready to skip all of the pleasantries, he knew he needed to do this just right.
"Oh," she whispered, seemingly to herself as she unlocked her door. But she didn't turn the knob as she looked back at him over her shoulder. Her pretty brown eyes flashed with concern, so he took a step away, but then she just looked sad.
"Everything okay?" he asked. She nodded. "Will I get to see you this week? I'd love to buy you a ginger ale at the Hard Deck. Or Chippy's."
She bit her lip before abandoning the door and wrapping her arms around his neck. She was all rough kisses on her tiptoes, and Bob was ready to turn the knob, head inside and deal with the consequences later. But she ran her tongue along his bottom lip before pulling away from him just as quickly. "I need to...I'll see you later, Bob."
In a flash, she squeezed herself in through the smallest gap imaginable, and then she gently closed her apartment door behind her. Bob stood there for a minute, his cock still half hard in his jeans as he stared at the spot where Anna had just been standing. She was giving him whiplash at this point, but maybe he sort of liked that kind of thing.
He quickly adjusted himself in his jeans before heading back downstairs and out into the cool night. He was going to have to ask Jake or Bradley how long he needed to wait before asking Anna out. They would know what to do. And he had Nat back now as well. He had enough resources that he would figure it out.
But the next day after work, they all seemed to make everything more confusing for him.
"So did you finally fuck her then?" Bradley asked casually as he put deodorant on in the locker room.
"Well, no," Bob muttered. "We just made out for a bit."
"Kids these days," Bradley muttered, shaking his head. "Well, did you at least thank Nat? For coming to your rescue?"
Bob sighed, knowing this man was going to be no help after all. "I already talked to Nat," Bob replied as they walked out of the locker room.
Of course Natasha was in the hallway and did a double take. "Did I just hear my name? I've been so popular since I got home yesterday." Her smile slipped into a look of excitement. "Did you fuck the redhead?"
Bob cradled his forehead in his hand. "Her name is Anna. And no, because I'm actually trying to date her."
"Why not both?" Nat asked, leading the way out to the parking lot. "Give that girl what she so desperately wants."
Bob was scared Anna was going to pull away again. He hadn't heard from her at all since last night when she disappeared into her apartment. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to be texting her or not today. It was like he was living in a choose your own adventure story, but somehow none of the options were correct.
He turned right toward his truck while Bradley and Nat both turned left, but then he realized that Jake had parked next to him and was already in his own truck talking on the phone. Bob tried to sneak past, but Jake put his window down and said, "Jess wants to know what's up with you and Anna."
"Is she on the phone?" Bob asked, tossing his bag into his own truck.
"Hi!" came Jessica's voice through Jake's bluetooth. "What did you do to Anna? She was practically singing when she showed up at lunch today."
Bob immediately scrambled toward Jake's truck and stuck his head in the window. "She was?"
"Yes. And she was having a hard time paying attention. You know how she gets when her head is in the clouds."
Jake met Bob's wide eyed gaze and smiled. "You should go to her office hours," the other man drawled. "That's like a green light for fucking on her desk."
"Hey!" Jessica complained through the phone while Bob grimaced. "Jake, keep your mouth shut about it. But yes, Bob, you should go to her office hours. She'd probably really like that. It shows you're thinking about her."
Well Bob was almost never not thinking about Anna, so maybe it wasn't a bad idea. "Take her some flowers," Jake added. "Seriously, man, she'll be handing you her panties within a minute."
"Hey!" came Jessica's voice again, and this time Bob ducked into his own truck, not wanting to hear any more of that conversation.
-----------------------------
Monday was a bit of a blur. The first thing Anna did when she got to her office was grab her copy of Wuthering Heights from her shelf. The note she forgot to read from Bob made her smile right away.
This book made me feel like it's okay to be completely caught up in another person to the point where you forget where you are or what you're doing. Also, I'm going to think of you every time I see a dog eared page for the rest of my life.
She whimpered softly. There had been a similar, slightly more intimate note tucked inside Papillon when she checked it last night after she squeezed herself into her depressingly tiny apartment in embarrassment. She would never be able to invite Bob inside for anything. Not for a cup of tea, and not for a sleepover.
It was almost too much. Her lips were still a little bit puffy on Monday from all the making out, and she felt sated if only by her own touch. She knew Bob's beautiful hands would be so much better, and she was still thinking about them when she went to find her friends at lunchtime.
Tuesday wasn't much better. The only damper was that she hadn't heard a single word from Bob. Nothing. She hadn't texted him either, because what was she supposed to say? Hi, I think I could fall in love with you, but I'm not allowed. Can we still make out? That would be the worst idea in the world.
"She's got her head in the clouds again."
Anna blinked a few times and realized she was sitting by the weird tree with the warm sunlight on her face. Her uneaten sandwich was in her hand, hovering halfway to her mouth, and she had been staring off into the distance. "Sorry," she muttered, finally taking a bite. Her lunch didn't even seem as sad today as she thought about Bob's hands on her thighs.
"Can you blame her?" Jessica asked. "She kissed Bob."
"Not one bit," the other woman said with a grin, as if Anna wasn't even there. "He's a damn catch. Sweetest man ever."
Anna rolled her eyes and said, "As if you aren't married to the human equivalent of a golden retriever."
"Oh, so she is paying attention," Jessica said with a laugh. "We thought you'd blasted off for planet Bob with no return ticket."
"Your astrophysics jokes are the worst," the other woman said, and Jessica pretended to pout.
"Listen. All I know is that he's a great kisser, and that his hands fit really nicely right here," Anna said pointing to her back and her hips. Both women squealed in delight. "But I can't take things any further with him."
"Why not?" Jessica demanded. "The two of you have been playing this game since you met at the bookstore. And also since you met again at the Hard Deck."
Anna thought about Kevin and all of her money that she'd never see again. She thought about her manuscripts she'd put on hold to work three jobs. She thought about how she'd willingly given up Princeton for him.
"I don't want to drag him down to where I am," she whispered, running her finger along the condensation on her can of ginger ale. "I can't be in a relationship." That's all she wanted to say about Bob and Kevin right now, still too afraid to tell her friends everything. So she cleared her throat and asked, "What's with the cooking rivalry between Bradley and Jake? It's like an episode of Chopped." That seemed to open a very controversial can of worms, but at least the focus shifted away from her personal life.
------------------------------
Bob didn't even know what kind of flowers were the right ones to get, and once again, everyone else gave him useless information.
"I rarely get flowers for Sugar. I usually just grab some good beers on my way to pick her up from school, and that's enough to seal the deal. Then I get to drink the beer I like while my hot wife goes dow-"
"We get the picture, Bradshaw," Jake said loudly. "Bob, just get some cheap flowers and save the money to make her dinner one night."
"Do not get her cheap flowers!" Natasha chimed in. "If the two of you weren't attractive looking," she said, pointing to Bradley and Jake, "Sugar and Jessica would have bailed before they bothered to uncover actual brain cells underneath the pretty hair." Both men looked startled before eventually nodding in agreement. "You need to get good flowers and plan to invite her for dinner. Not one or the other," Nat finished, pounding her fist into her other palm. "No wonder Bob never gets laid when I'm not around to straighten everything out."
"Can we not talk about that?" he mumbled, adjusting his glasses. "And it's not like I just want to...get laid. By just anybody."
"Yeah, yeah," Natasha said, tapping away on her phone. "You're a romantic. Go get her flowers like these ones."
Bob examined her screen when she held it up for him. He memorized the red and orange blooms the best he could, and soon they started to remind him of Anna's hair. "Got it," he told her, turning toward his truck before anyone else could tell him something that may or may not end up being useful. He'd get the flowers and then invite her over. He wasn't as good at cooking as Jake or Bradley, but he'd try anyway. He was mostly out of practice since he didn't have anyone to cook for, really, but they both offered to send him their favorite recipes.
The florist was nice and listened to him ramble about orange and red flowers for a minute before putting together something that was even prettier than he could have imagined. The sixty dollar price tag shocked him, but it didn't stop him from also grabbing a book from the front window of the shop next door. It was a new one he'd been wanting to read himself, not quite one of the classics that Anna seemed to favor, but he figured she wouldn't have read it yet. He'd let her borrow it and dog ear all the pages up, and then he'd read it and think about her the whole time.
But when he got to the San Diego State University campus, he sat in his truck and stared at the clock on his dashboard. It was 6:32. She had office hours until 7:00, so he really needed to head in there. Doubt was creeping in now, because they left things off at a weird place. He had no idea what Anna really wanted from him, if anything. If she told him no or hesitated today, he was going to have to start sorting out his feelings for her and dismantling them bit by bit.
It was 6:47 by the time he finally made his way through the academic building on his way to Anna's office. Several people turned and looked at him in his khaki uniform with the huge bouquet of flowers in his hand, and this would have been a lot less stressful if Anna was actually his girlfriend and not a woman he thought might never be that. When he reached the hallway that smelled like freshly baked bread, he found her small office right away where it was tucked back from the main walkway. The door was ajar, and he could hear her voice, so he stood there in the hallway a little awkwardly, trying to fight the urge to run back to his truck.
The door opened another inch, and Bob could see Anna's fingers and her burgundy painted nails peeking out as her voice got louder. "Here's a copy of the extra study guide. Don't forget there's a quiz on Monday. If you can ace that, then I think you'll be in better shape for the final. And try not to be too hard on yourself, Hemingway can be a bit of a challenge for anyone."
"Thanks, Dr. Webber."
The door opened all the way, and a young man filed out with a frown on his face, and then Anna was just standing there right in front of Bob. Her hair was in a loose braid, her lips had some sort of purple-ish gloss on them, and she was wearing some snug jeans and an SDSU sweatshirt. "Bob," she breathed, and it sounded like music. Her gaze raked over his uniform and the vibrant flowers before returning to his face, brown eyes more vulnerable than he ever thought they should be.
"Hi, Anna." He couldn't think of anything better to say as she backed up a step into her small office and nodded her head once for him to join her. After two of his long strides, Bob was practically bumping into her desk. Then she closed the door and leaned against it, hands tucked behind her back.
She cleared her throat, but her voice was still soft as she said, "You look nice in your uniform."
"Thanks," he replied automatically. She could have said anything, and he would have thanked her.
"Those are beautiful. Are they for me?" she whispered, eyes falling to the flowers again.
"Of course they are."
Bob watched her eyelashes brush her cheeks as her eyes fluttered closed. "You didn't have to do that. Flowers are so expensive."
"I got you a book, too," he said, sliding it out from behind the bouquet. Her eyes snapped open so she could read the title, and he said, "It's a new release, so I was hoping you didn't preorder it or anything."
Anna's cheeks were growing pinker by the second, making her freckles look more prominent. He was about to ask if she wanted to come over for dinner one night when she launched herself across the three feet of empty space, colliding softly with his body. Bob dropped the flowers and the book onto her desk just as she kissed him, her arms coming up to wrap around his neck.
She kissed him like they did this all the time, and his hands went right to her waist where they fit perfectly. "Thank you," she murmured against his lips. "Nobody ever got me books before you."
The words before you echoed in his brain. He didn't want there to be an after. He wanted this to be the real deal where neither of them had to be in a relationship where they weren't constantly trading books back and forth with someone.
Anna kissed him until his glasses were crooked, and she raked her fingers through his hair until he was sure it was a mess. And somehow she ended up pushing him back until he was sitting on the edge of her desk with his long legs splayed apart. He knew he was in trouble; he could feel himself slipping already. She let her hands trail down the back of his neck, over his shoulders, and down the front of his shirt. She adjusted all of his pins and touched his name tag along the way as her lips barely brushed his. Her fingers moved so slowly, he thought maybe he could get himself under control, but it was no use. He was hard in his pants, and her exploratory hands weren't stopping.
"Anna."
All that did was make her kiss him harder again.
"Please."
All that did was have her pressing the font of her jeans to his khakis with a little gasp. Maybe the guys had been right about this kind of thing after all. Maybe visiting her during office hours was all it was going to take to get to the next level. Her fingers made it all the way down to his thighs, scraping along just inches from his erection, and Bob was afraid he was going to embarrass himself. He thought about icebergs and refrigerators and the Arctic Circle, but nothing alleviated the aching heat under his skin as Anna licked his lip and almost nudged the tip of his cock.
But then she said the most devastating sentence he could think of. "Bob, I really like you. But we're just friends, okay?" Then she kissed him again like she hadn't spoken something so harsh, and he thought maybe he imagined it. "Just really good friends who make out with each other."
"Fuck," he grunted, trying to get control even as his hands kneaded the bare skin of her lower back. "Anna." He swallowed hard and pulled his mouth away from hers, examining her wide eyes. Her teeth sank into her pouty bottom lip when he said, "I was going to invite you over for dinner later this week."
"As friends?" she whispered, her hands still planted on his thighs.
Bob nodded like an idiot, because once again, he was going to agree to anything she said right then. "Sure."
She kissed him softly and said, "Okay."
-------------------------
But is it okay? Is it really? Next up, let's see how this dinner goes. We might need Nat to fully step in and take care of business again. Also, I love Bradley and Jake in this chapter so so so much! Thanks @beyondthesefourwalls

I Will Always Love You
Pairings: Sam x Reader
Warnings: depression, language
Plot/Summary: How Sam would react to you being depressed.
***
Things have been hard lately with hunting and the boys. I’m not a hunter, I was saved by the boys but sadly lost all my family and I didn’t have anywhere else to go so they took me in to watch over me. Since then Sam and I have developed feelings and finally have got together.
We have been dating for a while now, but I’m unhappy. Not with him, just my life and the way it’s going. I miss my family, I feel like I’m in a constant state of worry, I always feel like something is coming after me, I’m just tired. I want to plant roots, when getting with him I knew it wasn’t going to be the perfect life but I didn’t know how hard it was going to be exactly. I just want a break from life.
I’m laying on the bed in our bedroom, the Tv is on playing something for background noise, I’m too busy in my own head to even realize Sam walked in. I feel the bed shift and look over at the man with brown shaggy hair and big brown golden eyes, he always makes my heart sink.
“Hey what’s the matter with you lately?” He asks me
“What do you mean?” I ask trying to play it cool, I really hate talking about being sad. I always feel like I'm being selfish or that no one really cares.
“Babe you’ve been so different the last couple of days, I just want to make sure you’re okay.” He says placing a hand on my thigh trying to be supportive
“Yeah, sorry I’ve just been a little off I guess” I say shrugging my shoulders wanting to leave it at that.
“Talk to me” Sam says coming besides me cuddling me and rubbing my back
“I’m just tired” I start but feel like it’s too much to talk about so I just say that, I can feel tears forming in my eyes, this is another reason I hate talking to people about my feelings. I cry, everytime. Sam notices me abruptly stopping.
“Y/n, please you can talk to me about anything. I just want to be here for you”
I sigh deeply “I-I” I stutter trying to form words “I’m tired, I miss my family, I’m confused, I’m constantly on edge, I’m scared of something coming and trying to kidnap me so it can kill you two then kill me.” I start “I knew this life wasn’t going to be easy but I didn’t notice how hard it was going to be '' I say looking at him, I manage not to cry until my eyes meet his. I look into his sweet soft brown eyes, he looks just as sad as I feel, I let a tear fall from my eyes and now they won’t stop.
Sam pulls me into his chest not letting go, I’m not sure he knows how to comfort me.
“I really miss my family” I say holding on to him, I don’t want him to let go of me. I really need this moment. I haven’t been myself in so long. I just miss everything the way it was.
“Y/n, I know you miss your family, I know they will always be here with you. I’m sorry that you lost them. I’m sorry this is how your life is going right now but if you want to leave and try to start a normal life.” He pauses “I will not stop you. I will always love you.” Sam places a kiss on top of my head. My heart sinks, I can’t leave. I love Sam too much. I know him and Dean will protect me no matter what.
“Sam, I don’t want to leave you. I just need a break. Do something for a little while and get my mind off things.” I explain “I love you so much. I couldn’t ever leave you.” I kiss him. He kisses back, running his hands up and down my back.
“What is it you want to do?” He asks, I take a second to think about it because I never really did think about it before.
“Like normal things, like going to the movies, or mini golf, or going camping” I say trying to think of all the things I did before that I actually liked doing. Sam chuckles at me.
“Let’s do it all” He says, giving me kiss on my head again.
~
The next day I wake up to Sam in my face with a huge smile.
“What?” I ask
“Here” Sam hands me a pamphlet of things to do horseback riding, movies, golf, pool, swimming holes, camping, hiking trails, ect.
“What’s this?” I ask confused
“These are all the things we're going to do to make you feel better. It’s going to be a road trip because a lot of these things are in different states. But we’re used to being on the road” He says with excitement still in his voice. I smile at him, my heart feels like it’s going to explode. I can feel my eyes tearing up, he is just so fucking sweet.
“Sam, that’s so sweet” I say giving him a huge hug and kiss.
“Get ready” he says getting off the bed “I’ll get coffee!” He yells leaving the room. Leaving me in there smiling like a doofus.

Oscars Over Birthdays
Tom x Sister
Summary: The day Tom gets fantastic news is the same day your family forgot about your birthday.
Warnings: forgotten birthday, angst, slight cussing, rude family, fluff ending
MASTERLIST
You woke up and smiled as you smelled Sam cooking your favorite breakfast meal, cinnamon waffles. Tom introduced you to them on your grub tour in New York City. Weirdly enough, only the two of you liked them. The rest of the family didn’t. You quickly got dressed and had to stop yourself from running downstairs. You walked into the kitchen with a smile on your face seeing all four brothers and your parents there.
“What do we have here? Is that cinnamon waffles I smell?” You asked, faking confusion as why your favorite breakfast was being made.
“We have some celebrating to do Y/N.” Dom said, smiling at you.
“Tom has been nominated for an Oscar.” Nikki said. You looked at Tom shocked.
“Oh my gosh T!” You said running over to him to give him a hug. “That’s amazing! I’m so proud of you.”
“Thanks Y/N/N.” He smiled at you.
You walked over to the counter and made you a plate. Sam smiled at you as you grabbed a couple of extra waffles. “Eat up Y/N. I’m making a big dinner tonight. Everyone is coming.”
“Really?” You said trying to hide the smile of maybe your family was going to surprise you with a small party.
“Yup. Haz, Tuwaine, and the rest of the gang will be here.” Harry said.
“Cool.” You said trying not to sound hurt. You sat through breakfast and everyone just talked about Tom’s nomination and the rest of the nominations. You were quieter than normal, but your family didn’t notice.
You got a text around lunchtime from your best friend Ryann. It was always tradition to go out and eat on each other’s birthdays. No matter what your schedules were.
“Hey Y/N.” She said as you sat across from her at your favorite Italian restaurant. “How’s your birthday so far? What did your parents get you? What did your brothers get you?”
You sighed, “it’s been alright. I haven’t gotten anything. They haven’t even acknowledged my birthday yet. I thought maybe they would surprise me with dinner tonight when they mentioned Sam cooking, but they are doing it for Tom.”
“I saw that online this morning. I’m happy for him, but that’s no reason to forget your birthday.” Ryann said. You sighed once again and nodded in agreement. “Well you know what, forget it. I’ll give you the best birthday ever just with my presence.”
“My day is already better.” You said with a laugh, but you actually meant it. Throughout lunch, you and Ryann joked around and talked. You hadn't seen her in over a week due to her work schedule working against yours. It was nice to catch up in person.
“Here. I know you told me not to buy you anything, but I couldn’t help myself. Now after you telling me about your morning, I’m glad I did.” She said handing you a gift bag with Happy Birthday on it. You gave her a glare but she could see happiness in your eyes.
You took out the tissue paper and pulled out a basket with a bunch of small gifts in it. You saw a bath bomb with some bath salts, all of your favorite snacks, the new Ryan Reynolds movie, and an envelope. You gently set the basket onto the table and pulled out the card. You felt the thickness of it and glanced up at your friend. Ryann just smirked at you as you opened the card and saw a bunch of gift cards to your favorite restaurants, your favorite cafe, and your favorite shops.
“You didn’t?” You asked, shocked seeing the multiple different gift cards.
“Oh but I did because you deserve it.” She said smiling brightly at you.
“I don’t deserve you.” You said as you started to tear up. “This is too much.”
“No it’s not. Plus it makes up for that trip to LA you bought me.” Ryann said matter of factly.
“I invited you to Tom’s premiere. It only made sense to pay for it.”
“Yeah, but then you continued to buy everything. Even bought my dress for the premiere.” She said with a raised eyebrow.
You sighed before setting the card down and getting up to hug her. “Thank you Ry. You’ve made this birthday one of the best.”
She looked at you sadly, “I’m here to always make your days better.” You grabbed your gift and moved to exit the restaurant. Ryann followed. “Will you let me know how it goes with your family?”
“Yeah. Hopefully they’ve remembered by now.” You said sadly. “You’re welcome to come over for dinner tonight. Tom won’t be mad at you crashing his celebration dinner.”
“I’m meeting with Jake tonight or I would.” She said. When she looked up at you she added, “but I can reschedule. He’ll understand.”
“No, don't do that. You two are so close to making it official, I don’t want to get in the way of that.”
“You would never get in the way. Jake likes you and he knows how much you mean to me.” Ryann said as you stopped at your car.
“Please don’t cancel on him.” You begged. “Just call me when you get home so I can hear all about it.”
“I will.” Ryann gave you one last hug before she walked to her car. You got into yours and drove to your house. When you walked in, you could hear a movie playing and the light sound of your family talking. You walked upstairs to your room to set your gift down. When you walked back downstairs, you decided to join Sam in the kitchen.
“Hey Sammy.” You said as you sat at the counter.
“Hey Y/N/N. Where have you been?” He asked. He kept his head down as he chopped the vegetables.
“Ryann took me to lunch.” You said.
“Fun. Hopefully you didn’t feel up too much? I’m cooking a big feast.” He said jokingly.
“I’ll always have room for your cooking. What are you making for dessert?” You asked, hoping maybe it would be your favorite pie or red velvet cupcakes.
“Crepe bar.” He said lifting his knife to point towards the table in the corner where the fillings already set. You stared at it for a moment so you could hide the disappointment from Sam.
“Yum. I love your crepes.” You turned and smiled at Sam. He smiled back. “What movie are they watching in there?”
“I think they’re watching that new KJ Apa movie. What is it?”
“Songbird?” You asked.
“Yeah that’s it’s. Have you seen it yet?” He asked.
“No but I’ve been wanting to. I’m not going to walk in there to start it in the middle. I’m going to go take a nap.” You said standing up. “Come get me when dinner is ready.”
“Okay, I will.” He said, turning towards the stove. You walked upstairs and went into your room. You felt tears building in your eyes but you refused to cry on your birthday. After shutting your door, you threw yourself onto your bed and pulled out your phone. You don’t get on social media much, but figured it was time just to do a quick check on all of it. You got on Twitter first and saw that Tom was trending. You clicked on it to see what everyone was saying.
Tom being nominated for an Oscar is what he deserves.
We stan an Oscar nominated king
You kept scrolling through the fans congratulating Tom when you saw one that caught your eye.
Tom being nominated for an Oscar on his sister’s (who’s his best friend) birthday is what I live for. Congrats Tom and happy birthday Y/N. You didn’t want to post until later tonight so you wouldn’t get bombarded with tweets, so you saved the tweet to thank the fan later. You then decided to search your name. You knew looking yourself up brought nothing but pain, but you wanted to see what people were saying. Seeing if anyone else wished you a happy birthday. What you didn’t expect was everyone hating on you for being the only family member that hadn’t posted about Tom’s nomination.
You knew it shouldn’t bother you because you had told Tom personally, but it hurt that these fans were saying such horrible things because you didn’t post on social media. You saw some try to defend you, but then you saw a fan had taken a picture of you and Ryann at lunch.
Y/N can’t congratulate Tom for his Oscar nomination but she can go out to lunch with a friend. What a bitch.
You immediately closed the app and took a deep breath. You’re not a bitch. You were spending your birthday with your best friend. There’s nothing wrong with that, you thought to yourself. You decide to delete the social media apps off your phone so you didn’t risk getting back on them today. You set your phone down and stared at the ceiling. Insecure thoughts flooding your mind.
You didn’t remember falling asleep but when you woke up you saw Tom smiling down at you. “It’s about time you woke up. I’ve been trying to wake you for five minutes.” He laughed.
“Sorry. I didn’t realize I fell asleep.” You whispered. Tom leaned down and kissed your forehead.
“Come on. Everyone is here and dinner is ready.” Tom said, pulling you up from the bed. “After dinner, we are getting a fire started in the backyard.” You smiled at him and followed him to the dining room.
You sat down and noticed all of your family sitting there with Tuwaine and Harrison sitting there as well. You could tell they were all waiting on you.
“Good nap Y/N?” Harry said laughing.
“Shut up.” You whispered as you stared at him.
“This dinner is for Tom.” Dom said, raising his glass to cheers Tom. “He worked his butt off to get to this point and it’s only the beginning. Cheers.”
“Cheers!” Everyone said as they held up their drinks. You turned and smiled at Tom.
“I know I said it earlier, but I’m extremely proud of you. I'm glad I have you as my role model. Love you.” You whispered and kissed his cheek.
“Thank you Y/N/N.” He said smiling at you. “I love you too.”
Dinner went by quickly with everyone talking and laughing. You couldn’t remember the last time you had all sat down and ate dinner like this. Now you all sat outside around the fire pit. You sat next to Tom and shared a blanket with him. You just sat back and watched everyone interact. You get lost in your thoughts wondering how your family could forget your birthday. After an hour of sitting there, you decided you would go to bed. Even though it was still early, you just wanted to be alone.
“It’s been fun you guys, but I’m off to bed.” You said.
“Are you sick? You’ve been sleeping a lot today.” Nikki said, full of worry.
“No, I'm not sick. Just didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.” You lied. “Thanks for dinner Sam. And congrats again Tom. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Goodnight Y/N.” You heard everyone say. You walked up stairs and switched into pajamas. You were too mentally exhausted to shower. You figured you could just do it in the morning. Once your head hit your pillow, you were out.
Outside everyone kept talking. Harry was explaining something that he learned on set. Tom had heard the story a thousand times already so he pulled his phone out and got on Instagram for the first time today. He was scrolling through his timeline to see what his friends were doing when he came across a post Ryann had posted. He saw his sister smiling at the camera as she sat at a restaurant with a piece of cake in front of her with a sparkler candle on top. He looked at it confused and decided to slide through the multiple pictures. He saw one picture of her with a basket of goodies in front of her as she read a card. He scrolled down enough to see the caption.
A happiest 23rd birthday to my best friend and soulmate. I’m so lucky I got to spend time with you on your birthday. I love you and hope you have an amazing day.
Tom gulped as he stared at the phone with wide eyes. Paddy noticed his older brothers change in demeanor.
“What is it Tom?” Paddy asked concern. Tom looked up to him with pain lacing his eyes.
“Your nudes get leaked or something?” Harry joked. Nikki slapped him in the back of the head.
“It’s Y/N birthday.” Tom said. Everyone went silent. “We forgot her fucking birthday.” Tom stood up and paced. He was mad at himself for letting himself forget his best friend’s birthday. You and Tom had always been so close that everyone thought you were twins. You were only a year apart. It made sense that people would suggest that. Some even said they didn’t think Sam and Harry were the twins in the family.
“That’s why she’s been quiet today. We’re so horrible. I can’t believe I forgot my daughter’s birthday.” Nikki whispered more to herself but everyone heard. Tom looked at his parents and siblings before walking towards the house. He quickly walked in and ran to your room. He hoped you weren’t asleep yet. When he knocked on the door and didn’t get an answer, he decided to walk in. Your face was lit up from the lamp on your bedside table. What hurt Tom even more was he could see the tears that stained your face.
“Y/N?” He asked quietly. Thinking maybe you weren’t asleep. When he got no response and didn’t even see you flinch, he knew you were out for the night. He grabbed your extra pillow and blanket and sat next to your bed.
The next morning you woke up. Your eyes feel like sandpaper from crying. You didn’t even remember crying, but with the emotions from the day before it made sense you would. You gently sat up and jumped when you saw a figure lying on the floor. You leaned over to see Tom asleep.
“Tom?” You asked. He didn’t move. You got up and sat next to him. “Tom?” You asked again as you shook him. Tom slowly opened his eyes and looked around confused before looking at you. “Why are you sleeping on my floor?”
“I came in here shortly after you left so I could say how sorry I am for not remembering your birthday.”
You sighed. “It’s okay Tom. You got amazing news yester-“
Tom interrupted you, “it’s not okay. I don’t care if I was elected queen of England, no news is big enough to forget your birthday.”
“Queen of England?” You asked with raised eyebrows and a smirk.
“I think I would be an amazing queen.” He said with a small laugh. “Seriously though, I feel horrible.” Tom pulled you to him. You nestled your head into the crook of his neck. “I’m going to spend the day making it up to you. I promise. So get dressed. We’re starting with breakfast.”
You nodded and pulled away trying to hide the smile on your face. After getting dressed you walked downstairs and heard your family talking in the living room. When you walked in your whole family looked at you.
“Happy birthday Y/N!” They all yelled. Nikki ran over to you and crushed you in a hug. “I’m so sorry baby. We’re going to celebrate you tonight.”
“Yeah! I’ll cook all of your favorites.” Sam said.
“Don’t do that. You cooked all day yesterday.” Sam went to protest, “how about just make some red velvet cupcakes and we’ll call it good. We can order a pizza and have a nice family movie night.”
“Deal.” Sam said. After all members of your family apologized, you turned to Tom.
“Are you ready? I’m hungry.” You said with a pout.
“Then let’s go. Anyone want to join us for breakfast? We are also going to get lunch as well.”
“We will join you for lunch. Enjoy the morning together.” Dom said. Tom smiled at him before he turned to you and held his arm out for you to grab so he could lead you to the car.
“I’m going to treat you like the queen you are today. So if you want to do anything specific, just tell me.” Tom said as he got into the car with you.
“Just spending time with you and everyone else is enough. Thank you for making up for yesterday. I appreciate it.”
“I’ll go all out next year to fully make up for it.” He said.
“As long as there’s a bounce castle.” You joked with a laugh but Tom knew you weren’t joking.

lamentation | FOUR
{peter parker x fem!reader AU}
based on All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
SERIES MASTERLIST
word count: 3,907
warnings: angst, talk of death/tragedy, a little fluff
18+!!! minors stay away
At school the following week you were more than a little embarrassed. Peter Parker had seen you outside of school twice, and both times you'd been a crying, hysterical mess. Granted, you were a hysterical mess all the time anymore, but you usually kept that very well suppressed. Then along came Peter, and suddenly there was another person outside of your family who knew just how messed up you were.
He didn't mention it, which you were thankful for. You could see that he was concerned, though, with the way his eyes seemed to linger on you during every silence. His worry and pity only made you more resentful of the things you had shown him.
You'd shown up to school the morning after he showed up in your room, and you weren't at all surprised to see him lingering by your locker with an antsy jitter as he rocked back and forth on his feet. What had surprised you, though, was the fact that once he saw you were present he simply nodded at you and walked away. Was that his idea of a truce? An understanding?
Whatever it was, you had been thankful for it. The last thing you had wanted that morning was to talk to Peter, knowing he'd certainly want to talk about the events of the night, and you were relieved to get a little break from his constant presence. He still sat by you in classes, but he didn't pester with you his usual chatter, nor did he follow you to your locker even once.
The trend had continued for most of the week, and you had to admit you were starting to feel a little more isolated without his overbearing company. It was strange--you almost, emphasis on almost, missed him. You'd grown used to ignoring his borderline stalker-like tendencies, and now without him around to ignore, you felt lonely. Lonelier than you already had been, anyways.
At home, things were just as cold and distant. Your mother was in a slump again following your outburst at dinner, and you were beating yourself up over it endlessly. She'd been doing good, finally, and you'd just had to have gone and ruined all of her progress.
She'd been holed up in her bedroom ever since that evening. Not even your father was able to get her to let him in, and in turn he was banished to the sofa night after night. As such, you were feeling the ice from your mother and your father alike. You couldn't blame him, really, because the sofa was definitely not the most comfortable for sleeping.
It felt a little like your life was falling apart all over again since your birthday. The childish, bitter part of you wanted to blame Peter, because it would have been so easy to blame the only thing that had changed in your life, but you knew better. It was you. You were the cause for everything that was going wrong, and you didn't know how to stop it.
Why couldn't you just be better? The whole world was moving on, making progress, and yet you were stagnant. You didn't understand why you couldn't let go of all the heavy things holding you down, holding you back, but you just couldn't. Grieving her wasn't getting easier, and you didn't know how to try and make that change.
"Are you alright?"
Startled by the sudden return of Peter's voice, you jumped in your seat and blinked at him in surprise. It had been such a long week of near radio silence from him that you were shocked to be acknowledged by him, despite the fact that you'd been sitting beside him for the entirety of your Speech class. You'd almost started to wonder if maybe he was ignoring you, though you didn't exactly try to talk to him either.
Quietly, you mumbled, "Not really, but that's normal these days."
It was only then that you realized class was over, students packing up and filing out of the classroom eagerly in anticipation of the weekend. You'd been far more spaced out than you had thought--it felt like just moments ago you were sitting down and waiting for class to begin. You awkwardly began to pack up your untouched classwork and Peter did the same, neither of you quite sure what to say to the other.
Ever since she died, you had an uncanny ability to make any and every situation uncomfortable without really trying. It started with your inability to contain your emotions in response to the thousands of condolences you received over those first few days, and then the more you secluded yourself it only got worse. People looked at you strangely and whispered when they thought you couldn't hear them. They thought you were a ticking time bomb, and in a sense they were correct.
Maybe that was the reason you weren't quite as adamant about pushing Peter away as you were others. He didn't look at you that way, nor did he whisper hushed words about you that would surely make your ears burn when you overheard. Both times that he had seen you in a horrible state, he'd only looked at you with concern and worry. Not once had you seen him give you those all too familiar apprehensive stares, and you were grateful for it.
Realizing you were moving at a strangely slow pace, and Peter was anxiously waiting for you to finish, you cleared your throat and muttered, "Do you want to start the project tomorrow? Or tonight, if you're not busy."
"Um," Peter stammered, not bothering to hide his surprise at your offer, "sure. Tonight is fine if--if that's okay with you."
The two of you stared at each other in silence for a moment, neither of you quite comfortable with the sudden change in atmosphere. Zipping your backpack, you stated, "Yeah, great."
"Great!" Peter echoed, and you both turned and hurried away from each other in discomfort.
When you told your father that Peter Parker was coming over that night you weren't entirely sure what to expect. The reaction you received, however was so far off your radar it scared you a little. He'd nearly wept with joy, kissing your cheek and saying he was proud of you for making friends again, to which you retorted Peter wasn't your friend.
He could tell it was a lie, despite the fact that under normal circumstances Peter definitely wouldn't have been considered a friend. For you, now and after everything you'd been through, he was the closest thing you had to a friend, though. So, you resisted the urge to fight your father on the premise and let him run off to boast to your mother about it.
Even if you felt like you weren't making progress, it couldn't hurt to let your parents think that you were. You were trying, anyways, so you didn't feel quite as guilty about letting them read too much into things. You just hoped that they didn't get their hopes up too high, because there was still time for you to mess things up like you always did.
You spent the afternoon cleaning your room and wallowing in your anxiety. The project was something you were dreading starting, mostly because you knew it would bring up all sorts of negative memories and emotions for you, but also because you feared what Peter would think of you. Would he judge you for your opinions? Would he think you were bitter and ridiculous?
For awhile you contemplated all the ways you could try and lie to appease him, thinking of ways to keep your composure well enough to debate on behalf of superheroes. In the end, though, you knew it was impossible. Arguing against the Avengers was going to be hard enough in itself, let alone trying to pretend you were in favor of them. Was it too late to ask for an alternate assignment?
Peter Parker: hey i'm on my way
Peter Parker: if that's okay. if you're busy that's fine too
It was definitely too late to ask for an alternate assignment, and as you typed out your response you decided it was time for you to finally start trying to do better. You'd wished for things to be easier, to be better, for so long, yet you'd never put in any of the work to make it happen. It was time for that to change. You were going to do the project, fight your stance to Peter, and try your best to not ruin his opinion of you completely in the process.
You: yeah that's fine
You: my mom says you can stay for dinner
You: if you want... if not that's cool you probably have other things to do
Okay, you were definitely biting off more than you could chew. Reading over your awkward texts to Peter made you cringe in a bad way, and you felt nauseous with embarrassment. It was so, so unbelievably hard trying to be approachable after you'd spent the past year pushing everyone away. The fear of him rejecting you was sending shockwaves through your entire body, tingling your skin all the way to the tips of your toes.
To your relief, Peter responded to let you know he was okay with staying for dinner, and informed you that he was on his way. You shot off a remark about using the door this time, and then promptly threw your phone away in shame. What if he thought you were being rude instead of joking? Or worse, what if he knew you were joking and thought it was stupid? Socializing was a real drain on your energy.
By the time Peter arrived with a timid knock on your bedroom door, followed by your mother's coo, "Oh, honey, just go on in. She's never doing anything," you had successfully stressed yourself into oblivion. You were so consumed by your thoughts you almost didn't notice her throwing open your door with a beaming grin, but the sound of Peter's uncomfortable laughter snapped you out of your daze.
"Uh, hi." you squeaked, suddenly extremely self conscious of your bedroom. He'd seen it before, obviously, but this time it was actually swathed in lamp light and the evening sun. "You can sit."
Peter stood in silence, studying your room with an indecipherable look on his face for a long moment. "It's nice in here." he finally stated, dropping his backpack and letting that easy grin slip across his lips for the first time in the past week. It was incredibly relieving to see it, and you even found yourself relaxing a little.
He sat on the edge of your bed and both of you turned to your mother curiously as she continued to stand in your doorway with a tearful smile. Jumping in shock, she gasped, "Oh, right, right. I'll just be downstairs if you need anything. It was lovely to meet you, Peter."
With one last lingering gaze, your mother backed out of the room and shut the door. That was how you knew this was a special occasion in her eyes--what sane mother would ever shut her teenage daughter in a bedroom with a teenage boy willingly? It had been a long while since you'd genuinely felt embarrassed, but you couldn't help but to groan and cover your face at the whole situation.
Peter, however, seemed thoroughly amused by everything. "Your mom is a lot like my Aunt May." he mused, twinkling brown eyes trailing over every inch of your room, "Your room is huge. I think I could fit my entire bedroom in here three times and still have extra space."
"I used to share it with my sister."
He paled at your statement and stuttered, "Oh, shit, I'm so--I'm so sorry. I didn't know--"
"Peter, it's fine." you interrupted his frantic apology, and for what felt like the first time ever, you meant it.
It was fine. You didn't feel angry or bitter about the reminder of her disappearance from your life, and it was strange to you. You liked it, though, and it felt nice to talk about her without being bogged down by thousands of horrible thoughts and feelings.
Relaxing only slightly at your reassurance, Peter looked at you wearily as if he expected you to start crying or lash out at him. To his, and your own, surprise you gave a small smile. That still felt wrong; it didn't come very naturally to you anymore, but Peter seemed mesmerized by it none the less.
The sight of your permanent frown disappearing from your face gave him the confidence to move on from the uncomfortable topic, it seemed, because he grinned back and moved to unzip his backpack. "Okay, so, first thing's first--have you read the outline for the project? It's ridiculously broad and I've been struggling to think of any ideas to make our speech unique." he rambled, rifling through the crumpled mess of papers he retrieved from his bag until he finally found what he was looking for.
You slid your smooth, unwrinkled copy across the bed and asked, "Shouldn't we start with which stance we're taking?"
Peter blinked at you, and you tensed in preparation for the argument that was about to ensue. "What do you mean? I thought it was just a given that we were arguing in favor of the Avengers?" he questioned, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion, "I mean, I'm pretty sure everyone is going to."
"I wanted to argue in opposition, actually." you muttered, pursing your lips. "That could be what makes ours stand out, you know?"
His lips opened and closed like a fish for a few moments as he clearly struggled to formulate words, but eventually he sputtered, "Is that the only reason why? I don't know if I can argue against myself, considering I kind of am an Avenger."
You chewed at the inside of your cheek, already wishing the ground would open up and swallow you whole. Letting Peter into your space, into your life, was already hard enough--adding conflict into the mix only made your heart rate pick up and your hands start to sweat. "I don't agree with the Avengers, no, but I have reasons. So, maybe you feel weird arguing against yourself, but I feel just as weird arguing in favor of something I don't agree with." you finally explained, and Peter's eyes widened incredulously.
"Why don't you like the Avengers?"
You nearly scoffed at the way he posed the question, as if he were asking you why you weren't a fan of a specific sports team. "I don't agree with them, there's a difference." you stated bluntly.
Peter wiped his palms on his jeans tensely, just as you did the same, and repeated, "Why, though? What's not to agree with? They--they've saved the world over and over again, isn't that impossible to not agree with?"
"At what cost, though?" you retorted, "Have you paid any mind to all the things they've destroyed? How many lives they've ended, or destroyed, in the midst of their heroic deeds?"
He seemed to get riled up by the bitter way you spat out the word heroic and scoffed, "Okay, but that doesn't just happen with the Avengers. The police do all of that and more on a much more frequent basis."
You raised your eyebrows challengingly, though you had to admit it was a fair counter argument. Clicking your tongue, you rebutted, "That's true, but at least sometimes there are consequences for that! With people like the Avengers there are no consequences. There's no justice, no opposition, nothing! They can do whatever they want, whenever they want, no matter who gets hurt in the process."
Peter stood from your bed abruptly, raking a hand through his hair and pacing around your room with red cheeks. You could tell very well that he was trying to control his temper, though he was about as intimidating as a mouse, and you took deep breathes yourself. The last thing you wanted to do was to make him angry with you, but you weren't willing to back down about how you felt.
Inhaling slowly, he turned to you once again and said, "There are consequences. Don't you remember the Sokovia Accords? That whole fiasco was because of people who felt like you do."
The Sokovia Accords were a sham in your eyes. You remembered well when they had come about, and it seemed that they had changed nothing. For awhile most of the Avengers had gone off the grid, choosing to be international fugitives rather than sign, until the world needed them again. When Thanos had tried to wipe out half of all life in the universe they'd all come out of the woodwork again to save the day, and afterward it seemed as if all was forgotten.
There was no punishment for Captain America, Black Widow, none of them. They stopped another world ending event, causing plenty of damage in the process, and in turn were regarded as godly heroes once again. You sometimes wondered if the Accords were even a thing anymore.
"They felt that way for good reason!" you snapped before clearing your throat and trying to calm down again, "The Avengers have caused just as much devastation as they've prevented, maybe even more."
Peter jumped at your loud tone and snapped back, "What would you even know about it? I see it first hand every time, remember, so I know what happens! What do you know?"
"They killed my sister, did you know that?" you shouted, and he froze in place with wide eyes and parted lips, "Yeah, you know what happens, right? Well then you should know that I know damn well the damage the Avengers can do."
He sat back down on your bed wordlessly, watching you hesitantly as you tugged at a loose thread on your blanket anxiously. "I didn't know that, (Y/N)," he sighed, "I'm really sorry."
You didn't say anything for a long while, not trusting your voice to come out steady as you tried to hold back tears and also keep your temper in line. Talking about your sister's death wasn't something you really did, mostly because you knew it would cause you to break down. It hurt too much to think of it, let alone speak the words out loud.
But, as Peter continued to watch you as if expecting you to explode, you tried your best, "It was my fault. If it weren't for me we wouldn't have been at the park, and she--and she wouldn't have had to wait for me."
Peter reached out and gripped your hand firmly in his, causing you to momentarily short circuit in shock. You internally battled the conflicting urges to pull away or cling to him, but eventually you relaxed into the contact. Gently grasping his hand back, you let out a shaky breathe you hadn't realized you'd been holding.
It was grounding having his hand in yours. You didn't feel like you were at risk of drifting away into the void like you usually did; with his hand touching you, it felt as if you had a secure connection to the world again. It was a feeling you never wanted to lose again.
"It wasn't your fault, (Y/N)," he soothed, but you shook your head stubbornly.
Your eyes burned as you continued, "It was! She wanted to go shopping but I begged her to come to the park with me instead. I wanted to take some photos, and she'd argued with me for so long until she finally caved. A little bit after we got there we heard this really loud explosion, and I just--I just froze, and I..."
The words seemed to lodge in your throat, and your voice came out hoarse as you forced them out, "I froze staring up at Iron Man blasting some alien through the air, so stupidly shocked I didn't notice the building collapsing until she pushed me out of the way. I tried to grab her, but it was too late! A bunch of bricks hit her and--"
"Hey, hey, you don't have to tell me." Peter hushed you, gripping your hand tighter and scooting so close to you that his leg was pressed up against yours. Somehow the increased contact and warmth caused you to break, and suddenly you were crying in front of Peter Parker for the third time. You were three for three on crying in his presence, a thought that made you cry harder in embarrassment.
He didn't seem to care at all, though, as he took you by surprise and hugged you. "He just flew right by us. He didn't even stop when I screamed for help." you croaked, clutching Peter's shirt tightly in your fists as he held you, "I hate them. I hate them so much because it should be their fault, but I just keep blaming myself!"
You really hoped your mother wasn't eavesdropping, because she'd surely have wanted to talk to you about everything later. In all the time that had passed since your sister's death, you hadn't once retold the events of that day. You'd never spoken a single word about it, not even to the police who questioned you following the incident.
No matter how hard your parents had urged you to talk about it, or your therapist, you hadn't ever budged. It was your burden to bear, and you had never felt the desire or the strength to impart that load unto anyone else. Peter somehow broke down all of your walls without even trying, though, and it felt like a breathe of fresh air to finally get it all off of your chest.
There was no explanation for why he seemed to get you to do all the things you swore you never would without a word. It made no sense at all, and it scared you a lot, but you liked it. You craved the connection he gave you. Already, after such a short amount of time, you needed it. It would surely have crushed you if he decided not to care.
As your crying slowly subsided, Peter rubbed your back timidly and comforted, "It wasn't your fault, (Y/N), I mean it. It was just a freak thing, and you couldn't have done anything to stop it--sometimes bad things just happen, and they're inevitable."
"But, if I had just--"
He cut you off, "No, no buts. It wasn't your fault and you couldn't have prevented it. Trust me, I know exactly how you feel, okay? It wasn't my fault, and it wasn't your fault either."
You wanted to ask him how he could possibly know what you felt, or what he meant by saying it wasn't his fault, but it wasn't the right time. Pulling away and wiping your eyes, you sniffled, "I really need to stop crying in front of you. You're like an onion, you know? I just can't stop crying when you're around me."
Peter laughed loudly at your weak joke, and you couldn't fight back the quiet giggle the escaped your lips too. You hadn't laughed, genuinely laughed, in so long. "I like your laugh," he breathed, and your stomach erupted in the strangest fluttery sensation, "I like it a lot. You should never stop laughing."

"Weird Secret Friends" *Chapter 9*
Chapter 8
Chapter 10
Aw SNAP, an early chapter?! Yes children, I woke up and I just wanted to write. This story really does mean a lot to me, and I have been neglecting it for the last few days. So I decided to give you one today, and one tonight. I just have so much to say, and I wanna get it out there as fast as I think of it! I know y'all want that too.
So I don't know if these actually need warnings, but there is serious discussion about alcohol and addiction. If you're sensitive to that, read with caution. I'm really sensitive to it and I wrote it, but it's more therapeutic to me. I don't know how others feel about it.
Also-- I did my best to fix the continuity issue in the last chapter about the Sonny crying at Y/N's mom's funeral, AND I think I did a good job at fixing the continuity with the fact that I literally started this story with her drinking an appletini. Like a moron.
And if you think my explanation is 'unbelievable', I actually do the same thing so I know it's a thing! Don't @ me.
Also Also-- This chapter is all Y/N and Sonny, some cousin bonding time. I hope y'all appreciate it.

--------------
You rode to the train station in silence, but when you got out of the Uber to walk in by yourself, Sonny quickly trailed behind you.
“I’m a big girl Sonny, I don’t need you to hold my hand,” You rolled your eyes.
“I-I know, but it’s an hour until your train leaves, and--” He nervously explained.
“Afraid I’ll go to the bar and just derail my life in twenty minutes?” You crossed your arms.
“...No…” He softly looked at the ground.
“Well, you're right. I'm just gonna throw it all away right now,”
“Y/N don’t do that--”
“I’m not kidding, Sonny!” You looked at him seriously.
“...What?” He was stunned at your admission.
You looked around the train station, people were bustling about running to their trains and finding their people, it was a madhouse. You needed to talk this out seriously; so you pulled him to a waiting area and sat down with him.
“Well as you so nicely pointed out, I am basically on the verge of breaking my sobriety every fucking day. And now I know why you wanted me to avoid Rafael, but I didn’t listen and as much as you didn’t want it to, it already broke me. Last night I broke, and now that-- now that he’s gone, or run away, or whatever-- All I can think about is making this pain go away!” The thoughts that had been running through your head since you left Rafael’s apartment just came spilling out of your mouth.
“Sunshine…” He sighed.
“And you’re right, I don’t have anyone else. I don’t have anyone else to lean on, except for you. And I can’t keep doing that, you’ve done it long enough,” You started to feel tears catch in your throat.
“Wha--but I don’t mind, I--” He protested.
“Really? Because the way you were telling Rafael, it sounded like you were sick of it,” You tried to keep your voice steady.
“I’m not--” He ran his fingers through his hair. “I’m not sick of it. It’s just--”
“A lot,” You finished for him.
“Right,” He looked at you sadly. “But-- I don’t understand, then what do you wanna--”
“I need to go away,” You interjected with a very somber look.
“What?” He half laughed. “Go away? What does that even--”
“I need to go...away,” You repeated, not wanting to say the words out loud.
“Like...a facility?” He asked; you nodded. “Y/N I didn’t mean you had to--”
“I know you didn’t mean that Sonny, but I don’t see any other way,” Tears filled your eyes.
“I don’t-- I don’t wanna do this again! I don’t want you to have to take days, weeks off work watching me, moving to Jersey, checking my room and my apartment, you’re too old for that shit now!” You looked up to the sky, willing the tears to stay in your pupils.
“I mean, Y/N come on I’m almost 31, I’m not ancient--”
“But you’re a grown up, with a grown up job and a career, and a life. And I can’t just-- make you put your life on pause because I’m a fuck up,” You barely whispered.
“You’re not a--”
“I am,” You shook your head. “I am, and I accept it. I can’t have-- normal, things. Like friendships or relationships. This absolutely proves it,”
“No, it doesn’t,” Sonny took your hand. “Look I told Barba and now I’m telling you: This...this might be on me,”
“No it’s not,” You took his hand this time. “Don’t do that,”
“No, it really might be,” He insisted. “You’ve...you’ve never just opened up to someone like you did with Barba. Not once. Not with anyone but me,”
“Yeah well clearly that was some kind of fluke,” You rolled your eyes with a tear filled laugh.
“Was it?” Sonny asked you sincerely. “When’s the last time you approached a guy or girl for that matter, sober?”
“I mean, I was sipping an appletini…” You looked at the ground in guilt.
“Y/N…” Sonny rubbed his temples.
“What?” You shrugged. “It’s not like I’m the Hulk, Sonny. I don’t take a sip of alcohol and ‘Hulk Out’. I like to at least attempt to feel like a grown up, so I order ONE drink and nurse it for hours. You know this. It’s just, when I get upset…”
“You lose it,” He finished for you.
“...Yeah,” You looked back at the ground.
“So why don’t you just come stay with me for a few days, until this whole ‘Barba’ thing passes, and you can be...normal, again?” He put a hand on your knee. “You don’t need to…’go away’, like a mental patient,”
“...Because I don’t know if it will pass, Sonny,” You admitted. “I’m not kidding when I say this broke me. It...it broke me. And he wasn’t even my boyfriend! We fucked one time and all of a sudden I was going through his stuff like a crazy girlfriend,”
“...Didn’t need to know that, but alright,” Sonny shuddered at the thought of you in the throes of passion with Rafael.
“Whatever,” You sighed. “The point is, I-- I lost it, with him. That’s never happened, not once. I’ve never…’cared’ about someone like that. I just bang them then leave,”
“Wasted” Sonny added.
“....Well yeah, obviously,” You laughed sadly.
“Which brings me back to my original point,” He replied. “You may have had some liquor in your system, but were you drunk when you talked to Barba?”
“...No,” You shook your head.
“Were you tipsy?”
“....No,"
“Did you get drunk while waiting on me and talking with him and then decide to go back to his place to...do stuff?”
“No!” You hit him softly.
“And last night,” He continued. “Last night when I walked away and left the two of you. Did you run back inside and drink yourself into a stupor because you hurt me?”
“No!!” You shook your head. “No, I-- I might have wanted to, but then Rafael took me inside and he-- well, first of all his friends humiliated me--”
“They what?” Sonny’s fists began to clench.
“Calm down, Son,” You took his hand. “Rafael defended me, he even punched a guy for insulting me!”
“He WHAT?” Sonny gasped. Rafael would never do something like that, not for anyone. He was always so cool, calm and collected, always the epitome of decorum. If he had lost it on someone in public, that really did mean something.
“...So he defended you, then took you home?”
“Well, I---” You looked down in shame. “I asked him to,”
“Ah,” Sonny nodded. “I see,”
“But only because you said you didn’t wanna see me! I...I didn’t think I had anywhere else to go,” You explained.
“But he let you,” He added.
“He wanted me to,” You shrugged. “But Sonny I swear, nothing was supposed to happen. I just wanted to crash on his couch until I could talk to you. But...I don’t know, we-- he washed my clothes, and then we were watching BoJack, and then we were laughing and he was tickling me, and it just-- happened,”
“Organically,” He clarified.
“...Not the way I’d word it but yeah,”
“And you didn’t drink anything?” He raised an eyebrow.
“No!” You cried. “No, and I didn’t want to hurt--”
“Sunshine I promise you, this isn’t about my feelings at all right now,” He assured you. “I’m just pointing out that you have never just...accidentally slept with a guy,”
“Meaning…?” You quirked an eyebrow curiously.
“Meaning your MO is get drunk, get laid, and leave. Correct?”
“...Well when you say it like that…” You shifted uncomfortably.
“I’m not trying to guilt you Sunshine I’m making a point. Now, am I right?”
“....Yes,”
“So you genuinely had feelings for Barba. Real, unaltered feelings,”
“....I guess so,”
“And I’m not blowing smoke up your ass when I say that Barba would never, ever punch a guy for anyone. Especially not someone he worked with, in front of a bunch of colleagues. I mean, his ‘circle’ is probably buzzing right now with talk about how ‘barbaric’ he was, for some girl he just met,” He explained.
“What are you saying, Son?” You studied his face curiously.
“I’m saying like I said before, that this might be my fault, Sunshine,” He sighed, once again running his hands through his hair.
“If I hadn’t been so...against you and Barba, I wouldn’t have spout off my mouth about his--- usual way of dating. Because it sounds like with you, he’s anything but his usual self,” He explained.
“...And then you wouldn’t have gotten upset about it and responded the way you do when you’re upset, and then you wouldn’t have ended up a mess last night, and you two would still be in your happy little bubble of bliss,”
“Sonny,” You sighed and put a hand on his shoulder. “I appreciate the sentiment, but I think we both know that this...’beast’ inside of me, is always gonna be there,”
“Well…” He murmured.
“You said it yourself! I’m still an addict, I’m still battling it everyday, even though I’ve gotten so much better at it. Even though most days I am perfectly fine; I’m not normal. Normal people don’t end up at the bottom of a bottle of vodka whenever they have a bad day, or stress out,” You cringed at the memory of that constantly happening back in the day.
“Yeah I know…”
“And it’s not fair for me to put that on someone. Especially someone I barely know! Especially someone who is not used to, or even ready for any kind of normal commitment! I mean, honestly I’m glad it happened now, because if we had gotten any deeper and the inevitable happened, the blow out would have been much more...messy,” You looked away in shame, just imagining the chaos your drunken alter ego could cause.
“...How so?”
“Sonny, if I lost it like I did last night after spending one night with Rafael, can you imagine the kind of havoc I’d wreck if we had been dating for a while? If we were married?” You half laughed sadly at the thought. “Cops would be called, I’m sure,”
“Sunshine….” He spoke softly, hating to hear you degrade yourself so much. He'd heard it so much in the past, he knew if you were going into the dark place, the damage was bad.
“Somehow or other, the monster would have shown herself to him. And clearly, whenever it was gonna happen-- he wasn’t going to respond well,” You shook your head with the same sad smile.
“But maybe if you had gotten closer, maybe he would have changed. Maybe he wants to change-- he’s just...freaked out right now,” Sonny pointed out.
“Don’t,” You shook your head while looking at the ground. “Don’t do that,”
“Do what?” He asked you quizzically.
“Give me false hope,” You looked up at him with tears once again welling up in your eyes. “You know that’s the most dangerous thing for someone like me,”
“But that’s just it Sunshine,” He put both hands on either side of your face. “I really don’t think it’s false hope,”
“Yeah well,” You scoffed with a sarcastic laugh. “I won’t hold my breath. And the bottom line is-- if that ever happens, then it will. But I’m here now, and right now all I want is to drink until I forget this weekend ever happened,” You wiped tears from your face. “So I need you to--”
“I’m not sending you away,” He said sternly.
“Sonny!” You stomped your foot. “I’m not kidding! You can’t--”
“Look Y/N,” He started. “You have done so well these past few years, better than I’ve ever seen you. I am so proud of you. You’re in school, you’re thinking about the future, you have dreams. And if you just...abandon that for even a month or two, you’ll have to drop your classes and start over,”
“Yeah but--”
“I know you think that going to rehab is the thing you’re ‘supposed’ to do when shit like this happens, but honestly I think it will only send you three steps back, not forward,” He looked at you with very genuine eyes.
“...Y’know the old ‘monster’ wouldn’t have even told me any of this,” He pointed out. “She would’ve gotten on that train and headed to the liquor store at the Jersey train station,”
“...That is true,” You nodded with a soft smile.
“I think you’re more in control than you think, Sunshine,” He put a thumb on your chin. “...But, maybe to make us both feel better, I’ll put a limit on your card for a bit,”
“...Yeah, probably for the best,” You gave him a small smile. Just then you both heard the speaker announcing your train was boarding.
“Well, I guess I better go,” You stood up with your duffel and gave him a long, hard hug. You really did love him more than anyone in this world, and knowing he wasn’t mad at you and still loved you meant everything to you.
“Alright Sunshine, you call me when you get back to the apartment, yeah?”
“Yeah,” You nodded; he gave you another hug, scared to let you go.
He was being supportive and brave on the outside for you, because he really did want you to keep going on the path you were on. But something deep down inside of him was constantly worried about the monster inside you. He wanted to protect you 24/7, but you were right-- he had a life and a career in the city, he had to trust you to be on your own.
“I love you, Y/N. You know that, right?”
“Yeah,” You nodded with a bigger smile. “I love you too, Sonny,”
You gave him one last kiss on the cheek before heading to your platform, leaving Sonny alone in the station. He waited until he couldn’t see your figure headed towards the distance before pulling out his phone and dialing a number.
“Barba,” He said seriously. “We need to talk,”

Thursday, 1979 1:00pm
Eric forman's basement
You were sitting watching TV with your legs over Hyde's that were on the table, while Fez and Eric played some card game. It was a cute little flirtatious thing you and Hyde did: pretending that the other one was taking the space on the table, shoving at each other's legs, which then always ended up with you laying your legs over his letting him "win".
After about 20 minutes Jackie walked in: "Hey y/n, ready to go dress shopping for the wedding?"
"Ugh. I think I'm just going to wear a really nice jumpsuit or something, I hate dresses." You said taking your legs off of Hydes.
"Why do you hate wearing dresses, y/n?" Fez asked.
You: "because I gained some weight and I'm not skinny like everyone else so it's not going to look good, they never do."
"What are you talking about?? You're gorgeous. You have curves, every man's weakness. I love your body."
"I know you meant that in a non creepy way, so thank you fez." You gave Fez a kiss on the cheek, making Hyde shift uncomfortably in his seat.
"See you guys later."
The rest of the gang caught up with you guys at the mall 2 hours later to buy some tuxedos and more flowers.
Hyde: "Hey where's y/n and Fez?"
Jackie: "well y/n was crying in the changing area again, so Fez was helping her calm down. I couldn't take it anymore, she was ruining the good mood for trying on clothes."
Hyde walked into the changing area and saw fez holding your hands, you spoke up: "Thanks fezzie, you really know how to make me feel better." you hugged him and it seemed more intimate than usual, so Hyde took off. Generally you would always flirt or cuddle with Fez when he did it first but something about it lately just doesn't sit well with Hyde.
In the circle
"Jealous? Nah man. don't be ridiculous forman. I just think Fez might like her now, he's starting to make the real moves."
"Maybe because you took so long to make a move dude. She deserves someone who can finally make a move. Oo or bust a move, which Fez can also do. I vote for Fez." Donna says getting super excited.
"I wanna say Burn but I just don't wanna rub it in more man you seem pretty upset. Just kidding! DOUBLE BURN!"
"Whatever you guys, it's no big deal okay.….. so I found out there's this car that runs on water man-"
Eric, Donna, Kelso: "shut up with that story."
Eric's living room
8:00pm
You walked into the living room only to see Hyde watching TV alone. "Hey Hyde, whats up?"
"Nothing much man. What's up with you?"
"Just got back from meeting a friend at the hub."
"Surprised Fez wasn't with you." He whispered.
"What ??"
"Oh nothing I'm just tired I'm gonna head to bed."
"Really at this hour?"
"Yeah all that shopping wore me out."
"Oh… okay good night then."
"Night."
You turned to the TV but you couldn't really focus since you knew Hyde was acting different. Was he mad at you? So you went over to Donna's. "Plus nothing good is on" You said to yourself.
~~
"I just don't know why he's being like this, I mean who sleeps at 8:00pm??"
She just made a weird face and shrugged.
"Why did you make that face? Oh my god you know something! Tell meee."
"no I don't!"
"Donna! This is serious."
"fine okay look, Eric told me that Hyde is jealous because of how you and Fez have been lately and it makes sense to me."
"Hyde doesn't get jealous. Plus Fez and I haven't done anything, it was just a kiss on the cheek earlier pretty normal stuff."
"Yeah but it was also in the changing area. You two were holding hands and Hyde saw."
"but it was just because I was -"
"Crying yeah and you didn't go to Hyde like you normally do."
"Oh… wow you're right. I didn't think he would care though. Hyde doesn't know what to do when a girl is crying."
"Maybe but just go and talk to him about it, make him feel special again, so he can act like normal." You both giggled but you quickly stopped.
"I can't."
"Why not??" You raised your eyebrows, making a face in a 'do you even need to ask?' kind of way.
Gasping she says: "Because you like him. I knew it!!!"
"Of course I do Donna, have you seen him? I can't talk to him about why I was crying. That'll make me look stupid and weak."
"I don't think Hyde will see you in those ways. He's always made you feel better when you were down. It'll be fine."
"Thanks Donna, you're the best. I'll talk to him tomorrow! So how's Eric doing with the whole no more sex thing??"
"Well you know he still tries all the time to make me say yes."
"Like he said before everything gets him horny. He'll be fine." You both laughed.
~~~
NEXT AFTERNOON
12:00 pm, Eric's kitchen
Hyde was putting his plate in the sink, Kelso was at the fridge, and you and Fez were sitting at the table; Eric & Donna just left the room with Jackie, to talk about more wedding stuff.
You: "hey fez I was wondering if you wanted to go see a movie tonight?"
"Really with you? Yes of course."
"Great!" You watched hyde the whole time.
"Hyde do you wanna come along tonight?"
"No i'm, um working."
"We can wait till tomorrow."
"I work late then too." You narrowed your eyes as he speaks kinda coldly. After that Hyde left the room, so you followed him out.
"What's wrong jealous?''
''Are you kidding me jealous? Ha no way."
"Well then why the cold shoulder?"
"I've just been busy."
"Mm busy, yeah busy giving me the cold shoulder!"
"Well I don't exactly see you spending time with me either. Lately all it's been is fez and you."
"Yeah I guess I didnt notice that till Donna said something, I'm sorry Steven, that'll change I promise."
"Its cool. Now I get to do this." He leaned in and kissed you. No tongue just a genuine kiss, that lasted about 10 seconds before you guys pulled apart.
"Wowwww that was -." You started.
"Amazing yeah."
"How about we go and see that movie tonight?" You bit your lip.
"Cant I do work late tonight, but tomorrow I'm free."
"So you were jealous huh??" You asked a little too happy.
He smiled playfully, "I dont do jealous."
"No of course not Steven." You smiled back, while he put his arm around your waist, walking you towards his room so you could talk while he got ready for work.
“LOOK AT THAT!”
You were peacefully drawing before starting your turn at the clubhouse, sitting on a couch on the porch. In front of your pencil, Creeper was fixing something in the engine of his bike. Until Angel takes off your sketchbook from your hands, laughing and with the clear intention of teasing you, calling everyone attention. Jumping off from the couch, you try to grab it, but when he decides to raise his arm over his head, you know that you're fucked up. You have been badly in love with Creeper since you met him. He used to be extremely kind with you, always taking care of you of whatever you need, without having to ask for it, or without complaining about it.
“Angel, give it to me”. You have one hand on his left shoulder, jumping and trying to reach the sketchbook with the other. But he's so tall, that you can't grab it.
“WERE YOU DRAWING CREEPER?” He starts to laugh louder, feeling your cheeks burning and stopping every move of your body, to punch his chest.
You can't turn at Neron, really ashamed, running inside the clubhouse to hide yourself. Bishop and Taza look at you from the pool table a little confused, until they hear the conversation outside.
“Damn… It's really good”. EZ says, touring with his eyes every minimal detail.
“Let me see”. Gilly holds it after cleaning his hands, nodding in agreement. “She fucking drawn his tattoos, damn”.
“Hey, yo', shitheads!” Creeper takes the sketchbook of his huge fingers, closing it without looking at it. “Yo' fucking assholes, leave the kid in peace”.
“Carnal, you should see it”.
“If she doesn't show me, I'm not allowed to see it. Neither of you all”.
Knowing that you were drawing him really melts his heart, starting to think that maybe you too feel something about him. Walking towards the bar, the president moves his head pointing at the hallway to the dorms, making him nod just one time. But actually, he just has to follow your sobs and the curses in spanish to the closed bathroom.
You're sitting on the floor, against the wall, with both legs curled and surrounded by your arms. The only thought that crosses your head is that, if you could have any chance with him, Angel burned it down. You shouldn't draw him, at least, not without asking. And probably he must be thinking that you're crazy or that it's weird. Or both. You don't even know if you're going to look him at the face again.
The knocks on the door pushes you out of your thoughts, raising your crying eyes terrified. Breathing deep, you get up from the floor, walking slow to it. Slightly opening the door, a tattooed hand appears holding your sketchbook.
“Did you…?” You whisper with a low tone of voice, taking it.
“No, and I'm sorry about what Angel did”.
Finally, letting him see you, he clicks his tongue a little upset.
“I'm sorry too for… drawing you. I hope they don't annoy you for much long”. You have your gaze on your feet, unable to lift it up.
“Can you show it to me?”
Frowning confused, and narrowing your eyes, you look for the sketch with trembling fingers. Turning it under them, Creeper leans forward taking some seconds to admire it. He likes it. Actually, he likes it too much. You have drawn him perfectly, not knowing about your skills with a pencil. He's really fascinated, holding the sketchbook to look at it closer. As he heard Gilly, focusing somewhat better his orbs, he can see the tattoos on his neck perfectly placed over the paper. Even the badge of his Harley is on it.
“Didn't know you… can do things like that”.
“Tell me you're talking about the draw and not about being… creepy”. You mutter rubbing your nose, slowly raising your gaze towards his. The gesture on his face races your heart, with parted lips
He suddenly breaks into hoarse laughs, shaking his head, and you can swear that it's the best thing you have ever heard. Fleeting smiling you tear off the drawing to offer it to him.
“Keep it, if you like”.
“Really?” He asks slightly frowning, moving your hand close to him, insisting. “Yo! Mama… thanks. It's pretty cool. I mean… You draw in an amazing way”.
He holds it between both hands, smirking at you like a child who is receiving the best Christmas gift of his life.
“I was thinking that maybe you would like to share some beers, after finishing your turn”. You can notice how he's trying to hide the nerves in his voice, surprising you for both facts. For the invitation, and for his feelings.
“Ah… Yes… Yes, 'course!” Quickly answering, you nod taking a step to get out of the bathroom.
“'key. So you can tell me about this hobby”.
“Yeah, sure”.
“Cool, ah... I have to go back. See you later”. He says, leaning at you to kiss your cheek.
You can watch him walking away through the hallway, happily focused again on your draw. And you're not sure how to feel, but you're about to have a heart attack.
While working in the bar, serving beers and shots with EZ, you have caught Creeper some times looking at you from his seat, spending more time inside the clubhouse than outside, like it's not normal for him. But what makes you tickle in your stomach is the way he has to push away every Vicki's girl who tries to sit on his lap, or to sit too close to him. And maybe that means something.
“Hey, kid. Table”. Tranq appears through the glass door.
Checking the hour on the screen of your phone, you get somewhat nervous when you notice that your turn is already done. Palming EZ's back, you step out from the bar after cleaning your hands, leading your steps to the inside of the Templo. The olders are there, counting money and dividing it into four rows. One is yours.
“Sorry about Angel, querida”. Bishop says when you're close to him. You just shrug.
Putting inside an envelope your salary of the last two weeks, he offers it to you.
“Yeah, he's a little stupid sometimes”. Taza chuckles, surrounding your waist with an arm and resting his head on your other side.
“Nah, it's okay”. You reply, putting an arm on vice's shoulders.
“You okay with Creep'?”
“Yes, yes. Don't worry. We are gonna share some beers now”.
“Uh, I'm feeling jealous”. Che says laughing loud.
“Nah, you are my fav”.
“That shit hurts, kid”. Tranq adds with feigned annoyance.
“Go get your boy, kid. And enjoy”. Bishop says, before letting you go to have your own party.
The other Mayan is already waiting for you with two cold beers in his hand and a cig in the other, sitting on a sofa next to his brothers. You can feel the same nerves on him that inside you, when you finally meet again. He gets up showing you a huge smile, placing one of his tattooed arms around your back, ignoring a ‘you are welcome’ from Angel. He's actually very proud of what he did unconsciously, looking at you two stepping out from the clubhouse to the sofas on the porch. Falling down on it, you curl your legs over it and against your chest, grabbing one of the drinks to have a sip.
“Why did you start to write?” He finally asks, seeming so interested in it that your insecurities come up.
“My… parents used to fight every day when I was little. I was stressed, so I… started to scratch a paper with a pencil until it was totally black”.
Maybe it's not what he was expecting, but now he looks more focused in every word your vocal chords pronounce.
“But it started to be insufficient. And I found out that concentrating all my senses in drawing, it was like I was alone in the world. So, now it helps me to disconnect, whenever I feel low”.
“You weren't feeling okay this evening?” Creeper asks, sounding worried.
“Yeah, no… I was feeling okay, I mean… I was just stalling and you looked good fixing your bike”.
“Yeah, I saw that”. He can't help but laugh nodding, drinking from his beer after having the last smoke.
“Did they… tease you too much?”
“Nah, I don't care. At least, I earned some kind of date with you”. Crashing softly the two bottles, he makes a toast. “For the first of many more”.
“Okay, next time, I wanna talk about your tattoos”.
“That's gonna be a long one, mama”.
A Letter from Norman reactions
Tonight I was feeling like reorganizing the notes I took after reading the novel for the first time. Just some random personal reactions I had after reading it; if anything catches your attention and you'd like to know more about a particular event from the novel, please feel free to ask and I'll be happy to help!!!
Under the cut because it's l o n g. That is, if Tumblr allows me to add a "read more", which has never happened before, but I'll keep hoping in it.
• Disclaimer: I'm suing anyone who ever said that the novel is all about NorEmma. I've literally put off reading it because I didn't want to get into something overly romantic while there's??? Nearly nothing about it that is romantic??????? Just a slight mention in that last chapter and that's it???????? Why are y'all like this
Prologue
• I need you all to know that the important letter™ through which Norman informed Emma about his plan starts with him describing the weather. I just think it's a relevant information.
• Ok I'm at freaking page 1 of “A letter from Norman” and. NORMAN IT'S A FREAKING LETTER TO EMMA NOT A SHAKESPEAREAN PLAY THERE'S LITERALLY NO REASON TO BE THIS POETIC
Maybe, I would get it if it was directed to Ray, but to Emma?????
Chapter 1
• Emma in 2038: Let's befriend ghosts
Emma in 2047: let's befriend demons
Seems like a logic consecution to me
• Ok but why has nobody ever mentioned the extremely precious Emma / Gilda moments in the novel???? My heart was completely melting that was the most adorable thing I've ever read??????
• The way Norman is constantly in awe of Ray is so adorable... Baby is so sweet I swear, he deserves the world
Chapter 2
• OK BUT THE SWEET EXCHANGE between Ray and Isabella before him and Emma go out at night?????? Ray is so pure is swear... He's a precious baby who didn't deserve all the shit he went through.
Reporting it in case anyone's curious; for context, Norman is sick, and Emma wants to go out look for a flower that she's read is going to help him feel better. Emma and Ray are convinced that Norman is going to die because babies are just that dramatic, and easily impressionable as well. They're seven here.
“ «Ray, I'm counting on you!»
Isabella pressed an hand on the boy's shoulder, who turned his face to her and diligently nodded, before continuing: «Differently from Emma, I don't think the flower is going to help Norman heal».
«What do you mean?»
«However, it's better than having to sit back and watch without doing anything. I too, like her, want him to heal as soon as possible.»
«Sure, I understand...» ”
NOW that hits so hard. You have to understand, this is after Ray had made the deal with Isabella. He had already started to plan the escape. In this occasion, he was on a very thin line: alone at night with Emma, outside the House, a child who knew the truth. Isabella knew those were the right conditions for him to attempt an escape, so she decided to test his loyalty; one misstep, and their deal - which was fundamental for the escape Ray was planning - would have ended.
But at the same time, Ray needed to go. Because, just like Emma, he just couldn't stand to lose Norman. And to see these three children caring so deeply about each other even at such a young age makes me honestly bawl. This is quite certainly my favorite thing from this series. And Ray deserves the world.
• Ray was so determined to save his two friends, he even considered for a moment, in the woods, to tell Emma the truth about the orphanage. I find it very nice how the novel hinted of all these times Ray almost revealed the truth, it really puts emphasis on how he was trying to find the best moment for the escape- but it also hints to how desperate he was to share this grievous burden he was forced to carry for the longest time.
• “ Ray, you must keep on living, Norman whispered to himself like a prayer. ”
I'm... I'M 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Doesn't help the fact that this bit was literally at the end of pages of Norman praising Ray and how brave he had been for so long.
• “ Nobody in the House would have wanted for Ray to pay with his life to amend the silence of all those years. ”
I love this bit. Nobody between the children ever hated Ray for speechlessly assisting to dozens of his siblings being lead to death, because they all immediately understood how much he was suffering, how powerless he must had felt, and also, even though it only led to him being even more hurt, how deeply he loved them all. It's really nice to realize that no children ever hated Ray- no one besides from himself. His siblings love him unconditionally, and that's precisely what he deserves 🤧🤧💕💕💕
• Norman: *adventures in a detailed description of Ray's features and gestures for no other apparent reason than the fact that he finds him pretty*
Chapter 3
• Ok I know people use to see Ray and Susan's interactions under the light of Ray having a crush on her but honestly? I think they make the cutest brotp. I never knew how much I needed Ray-having-an-older-sister content untill now.
• For real though!! What hits you really hard is to find out, even though he would had never ever showed it, how desperate he was to have somebody care about him, and to be loved. He literally grieves for losing someone that looks after him and is there to check on him in his lowest days- we know it's the thing Isabella never gave him. Man, this boy didn't deserve all the shit that happened to him. Tpn may have become an old known story for me, but Ray's sufferings in his early age will never stop tearing my heart apart.
• Ok, I wasn't ready for all this angst on Ray's part. I mean, I obviously know GF were hard times for him, but I didn't expect for him to take over the pov. Sis, how wrong I was. Now I'm crying.
• Coming to the realization that Ray's initial plan actually was to bring everyone in the escape, but he clearly had to give up on it after having realized it would have been impossible to save them 🥺🥺🥺
(I mean it was not impossible. He believed it was. But it wasn't.)
• Ok but. The last part of the Ner chapter. I really don't want to spoil it for anyone because it really was a beautiful chapter but I really need to say: Emma and Norman. The way it wasn't just Ray always being there for them, protecting them from afar; no matter their blissful ignorance, they have always been there for him too. They never abandoned that lonely boy, and they made it so that he could have a last reason not to give up. A single, dim light of hope in that pitch black, devastating world he was born in. I may or may not be crying my eyes out.
(Btw I had written this before the Ray special chapter came out, and it's kinda funny to look back at it now)
• The thing with the Ner chapter is: you enter in it after reading two chapters of normal, wholesome children's stories. There's a dark undertune in it, but it's very subtle and it doesn't interfere with the happy, cheerful atmosphere of these children facing adventures together with each other. But then the Ner chapter strikes, and the Ray pov arrives, and it's like being beaten with a bat in the stomach several times. Deep down, you had always known it; but you suddenly realize that all these children are going to die. And, even worse, there's one child who knows. There's one child who has to assist to everything powerlessly. There's one child, one freaking-nine-years-old who knows that all his siblings are going to die, and there's nothing he can do. That a single mistake could ruin the chances of making just two of his siblings survive, which is everything he's hanging to right now. One child who only needs to be loved. Well that... That hits hard.
Me expressing my thoughts: girl this form is shit you can't write something that is understandable to save your life can you
• Also can we please appreciate Norman taking so long to get out of the forest as it's a recurrent characterizzation of his character to be desperately willing to live just *French chef kiss*
• I really like how the novel underlined how Norman's choice of sacrificing himself corresponded to a betrayal toward his friends (when you think about it, Emma definitely felt betrayed). It's almost like in his last moments Norman chose to switch roles with Ray, taking on his shoulders the burden of being both the traitor and the sacrifice.
Chapter 4
• Norman: * “ He instinctively closed his eyes and abandoned himself to the sweet memory of that time he understood how deeply loved he was. ” *
Somewhere, Ray: Can't relate
• Emma: Norman, what you want to do when you grow up?
Norman: It's a secret.
Me:
• “ Ray woke up before everyone, as usual. ”
A remarkable detail. You'd think Ray, as a good depressed person as he is, would sleep more than the average. The truth is: he doesn't sleep at all.
• Norman: There's... Another person I like
Me:
• OK NOW WHY did none tell me about the nine (9) lines of Norman / Don interacting it was worth reading the novel solely for that.
• WHY DID NONE TELL ME ABOUT DON ALMOST STRANGLING NORMAN AND MAKING HIM LITERALLY PASS AWAY IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH READING THE NOVEL SOLELY FOR THAT
• Reading about Conny being there hurts a lot but reading about Sadie and Hao brings up a totally different kind of pain. Also who the hell is Cindy?
• Norman: Oh yes, Emma and Ray, my most dear friends, my closest siblings, the reason I wake up in the morning, my only reason to live, the ones I'd entrust my life with,
Also Norman: Dunnot in the last thirteen hours and six minutes they have been acting pretty sus, I'm kinda sure they're betraying me somehow ://
• “ «I agree, but it feels like you've fallen down a rabbit hole. You're restless, you constantly look off...» said the raven haired boy, distorting his mouth in an hardly intelligible grimace and giving his friend a meaningful look.
«Norman, about that mysterious girl...»
«No, you're mistaken! I...»
Norman, filled with frustration, raised up his voice, starting to lose the coolness that was usually characteristic of him.
«But I haven't said anything yet!»
That being said Ray, with slightly mocking doing, turned on his feet and went away, leaving Norman like that. ”
I LOVE THIS BIT SO INEXPLICABLY MUCH I'm always *so* in for Oreo finishing each other sentences / reading each other's thoughts. Here, Norman answered Ray's question before he could even expose it, because he already knew what it would have been. Equally, Ray knew what Norman was going to say even though he cut his answer halfway through.
I love how much on the same page they are, they really... Totally and fully understand each other even without words, and I find it so sweet. Seriously, their dynamic is so wholesome
• Norman's last birthday gift: the thing that matters the most to him: his family's happiness
Emma's reward: the thing that matters the most to her: her family's happiness
Some things hit harder than others.
• I don't know like. When you read the novel after the series has ended, everything hurts so much more, because you know these are all memories Emma has lost forever.
• So you made colorful clothing by "coloring old clothes"? Have fun realizing y'all have celebrated Norman's birthday wearing your dead siblings' clothes
Bonus this epic note I randomly took I completely forgot the context of:
• Isabella is a bitch. I don't give a fuck about your dramatic past woman, leave that boy alone
I promised you guys I'd whittle something out before the end of the day! (Currently its 11:30 here, so I made my deadline lol) So here's a bit of drama and fluff. Every couple fights, even vampires, but the most important thing is to take responsibility for your actions and communicate. With that in mind, I give you:
Lost Boys Make Their Fem!S/O Cry During a Fight
CONTENT WARNING: Sexual Themes, Possible Triggers, Topics of Physical and Verbal Anger
David
David is not known to mince words in any scenario, so you can bet that means he chooses an s/o who can handle his bluntness. The same could be said for your fights. Unlike Dwayne and Paul, David rarely yells anymore. Instead he's harsh, cold, and what he says often hits very hard. He doesn't tip toe around when he's calm, you can damn well bet he isn't going to be considerate when you tick him off. He can be quite jealous at times, but often it doesn't lead to a fight. Admittedly he can be a tad petty as well, but getting genuinely enraged towards you is not as common. A spat is one thing, but a serious fight can get ugly fast. He is almost jolted when he hears a sharp breath muffled under your hand. Hell he's only ever heard you make that sound during sex, and this was definitely no time to be turned on. He'll turn around and see you with your hand over your mouth trying to hide your shame and feel ungodly levels of guilt.
David's words are harsh, and when you turn out of the room he's still sitting there utterly flabbergasted that you had such a tearful expression. After all, you had to know he didn't mean it..right?
David will definitely sulk, he hates admitting he was wrong. Not necessarily because he thinks he's in the right for being cruel, but rather he's sure you just need space and then things will get better. He'll expect you back any day... So when you don't, he kind of goes into denial and will wait, and wait… and wait...
The guys stopped asking about you because every time he hears your name mentioned he grows more pissed off. Eventually he explodes in a rage, which is extremely rare for David.
"So uh.. about Y/N-"
"Why isn't she back yet?! This is stupid, she should know that I don't mean it!"
"Hey, David, man why don't you go talk to Y/N? I sure if you-"
"No! If she wants to stay away, fucking fine! Good riddance!"
Truthfully he's upset. Beyond that, really. He feels awful for making you cry, he's afraid you might hate him now, but he doesn't know how to approach the situation. Apologizing is difficult, to David it's a form of defeat and a part of him doesn't want to face that it's his fault you're gone.
Eventually he caves in after a week and a half. He misses you like crazy! The guilt gnaw at him to the point that he can't sleep, he can't think straight. Even blood begins to have a bitter taste to it.
It'll be a late night, closer to 3 am when he just silently appears in your room. If you're asleep he'll just stand there and watch you for a moment. Mostly trying to build up enough willpower to do what he's about to.
Expect his apology to be kind of crappy. At least, at first. It'll come off as angry, even a bit misguided just because he really hates admitting he fucked up. But when he does, it's the most sincere, heartbreaking moment of your relationship. He may have to turn away from you and shut his eyes before any tears tempt his cheeks. You can't see him like that. Tears means he's getting emotional, that means he's growing attached, and attachment… it's a weakness. When he's weak and attached, people die.
He lost a love before because he couldn't protect her, he's lost his brothers once because he got careless and underestimated his enemy, he can't lose more.
Once he apologizes and you come back to him, he's a bit more attached to you physically. He'll hold you from behind with his chin on your shoulder while sitting on his bike, have you sit on his lap at the hotel, even on the boardwalk he's become more open by holding your hand. He isn't ready to say the big "L" word just yet, so this is the most he can muster. Whenever he's too harsh now he'll apologize by hugging you to him. David is still scared of getting close, but he's more afraid of pushing you away from his lack of filter.
Dwayne
It takes a lot to ruffle Dwayne's feathers, so already he's not one to be careless with his words. Unfortunately once he's pushed to that point all bets are off. This usually dismissive vampire of little words becomes an eruption of rage. A lot of it is physical. He'll throw a table or punch a hole in a cement wall. He doesn't mean to scare you. When he gets that worked up he becomes unbelievably tense, almost his body's way of warning you not to push him. With fangs out, standing in the wreckage of his rage he'll pause to see you failing to hold back a mess of tears and immediately stops.
At that point he's exhausted. Rage takes a lot out of him, in the end he just feels flustered and a bit ashamed for losing his cool. The longest a fight lasts is maybe a day or two, usually you give each other space but once he's made you cry that's a different story.
Even if you started the fight he recognizes he shouldn't have done what he did. Temper or not, that's not an excuse to blow up at you. He'll be frustrated with himself for losing grasp of his emotions, and he'll probably take some time to think over his words before trying to solve the issue. It's hard to look at someone else's point of view when you're pissed off at them, he knows that better than anyone. Especially since he grew up with siblings before becoming a vampire. When he's got a good grasp on himself he'll probably try to settle things with you so that you two can get things back to normal.
"Y/N… come here, please," he'll say softly, patting the seat next to him on the couch. As soon as you do, he slings his arm around your shoulder and yanks you into his chest. He doesn't look down at you or say a word, he'll rest his chin on his fist looking straight ahead searching for the right words. If it was a mutual argument he'll explain his own point of view after apologizing for losing his temper, and when it's your turn he'll listen quietly. If it was on him, he's even more remorseful. He's reaching almost a hundred years old by now, he should know better. Truthfully he had the same issue when he was alive, but he never meant to drive you to tears. You'll both sit quietly together on the couch, Dwayne rubbing your back until you've calmed down. After all is said and done he'll tell you how much he loves you, he doesn't want to leave any negative feelings still in your heart. Relationships are a pain, he knows that, but he cares about you more than his own life.
Paul
Oh when you two go at it the gloves are off! Paul is the most emotional of the group, so when he gets mad all he sees is red. There will be a massive amount of yelling, he may even be fighting back some tears himself. He'll get physically frustrated, punching walls, throwing furniture, kicking things over. Yes, he might get in your face, and you can definitely expect him to bare his teeth at you. Especially if you're in his face too. By now it's not scary, just even more infuriating that he's trying to make to back out using intimidation.
When you cry it can go one of two ways. It really depends on the context of the fight.
If you started it, or it was a mutual argument he may storm off somewhere in the cave. To him crying can be a cheap tactic to make him feel guilty, so if you've done it when you've done something wrong it upsets him… even more so because he feels like crap! He hates fighting with you! You're his kitten, his babe, regardless whether or not you started the fight he feels terrible seeing you like that. He's just so damn frustrated! After mellowing out with a thick ol' stick of the devil's lettuce he'll sulk out with his hands in his pockets. If you're still there he'll plop next to you and explain why he was so ticked off. Granted, it isn't exactly eloquent the way he puts it. After all emotions are tricky, he doesn't always know how to express himself verbally. If you've already left and it's still night, he'll fly over to your place and try to settle things with you. He doesn't want to go to bed angry at you, and he definitely doesn't want you going to bed upset with him.
If the fight was started by him, or if you're genuinely upset he'll stop. Especially if your tears are from him hurting you. Then it's all love. He sets aside his temper, and pulls you into his arms. It'll take a moment for him to calm down, but it's just a plethora of tender apologies while he holds you.
"I'm sorry kitty-cat," he coaxes you, holding your head to his chest. "Don't cry, okay? I hate it when you cry."
If you aren't emotionally drained there'll probably be a lot of make-up sex in either situation. Once you two have made up, he wants to do everything he can to be close to you. Plus, he needs a release as well. Afterwards, he'll snuggle up to you still wearily mumbling apologies under his breath.
Marko
Anger isn't a common emotion for Marko. Well, unchecked rage that is. He can get a little irritated, but it really takes a lot for him to lose his temper. Even still it's closer to David's methods than Paul. Again it's the context. If you've done something wrong or started the fight he'll be more prone to outbursts.
While you're screaming at him, in his face he'll just watch you silently with a blank stare. On the surface he's calm. There's not a lot of yelling, but there can be some physical rage if you really push him. Marko would punch the wall and leave a crumbling chasm in his path, reminding you what happens when he's pushed too far. Truthfully he'd never put you in harm's way, but when he gets like this it's hard for him to stifle his predatorial rage that tends to poke through the cracks.
If he's the one who's upset with you, even if it's on him, he probably won't let on at first. While not petty, he'll seem distant from you. In public he'll yank you to him like a wolf warning others to stay away from his mate, but alone in private won't touch you as much. You may try to ace your hand on his shoulder and he'd immediately excuse himself from the room to sulk. If you really get clingy he grows even more agitated and will have very rough angry sex with you, his fangs may even come out in the process. Especially if he's jealous.
When you cry, it sucks. During a fight, after jealous defiling, when he intimidates you, it just sucks. If you step away from him he knows he's messed up.
Part of him doesn't want to cave in so easily to your displays of emotion, but if you're legitimately hurt by his actions he'll just let out an exasperated sigh. He may excuse himself verbally for a moment to try and gather his thoughts, or he'll sit you down and try to explain his reasons for being so enraged. If it's on him he'll carry you to the couch and hold you to him.
"*sigh* Look.. I'm sorry for going overboard the way I did, baby girl. I shouldn't have done that…"
If you cry after sex he'll feel like an utter asshole and hold you tight to him. He'll pet your hair, rub your back, even offer to let you smack him for being such a jerk. He may try to nibble your neck over kiss you until you start to giggle then give you his signature smile.
"There she is. I'm sorry I made you so sad, baby girl."
In all honesty this isn't a common occurrence. Marko still rarely ever gets mad at you, most of the time he's very laid back. So losing his temper is a bit jarring for him as well. He's never sure what will come out when he loses his temper, which is a huge reason why he does everything he can to keep himself in check. You may be a pain in the butt sometimes, but so can he. And above all, you're his pain in the butt. He still loves you more than anything at the end of the day.
Just A Babysitter. (Part Three)
The Lost Boys x reader
Warnings: theft, some blood imagery, some mentioned drug use, fluff (some)
Context: This part revolves around Michael's first night with the boys, which (Y/n) partakes in.
A/N: I felt like I should post this to make up for the short one I posted earlier, so enjoy!
Part One, Part Two , Part Four , Part Five , Part Six , Part Seven , Part Eight
A strong reek of motor oil hangs over us as we linger on the Boardwalk, waiting for Star to finally rejoin us, the boys restless again, though each for different reasons. None of them have said more than a few words to me since last night, though one of the things they did tell me is that I have to stay with them all night, which annoys me to no end. The silent treatment is also a little tedious and frustrating, but at least it gives me time to think without being interrupted by Paul's constant jokes and pranks, or David's weighted questions, not to mention Marko's sweet yet sometimes irritating habit of making comments in my ear about random people passing by. Out of all of them, the only one acting vaguely normal to me is Dwayne, who treats me with the same quiet friendliness he treats nearly everyone in the group.
"Isn't that her?" Marko suddenly speaks up, pointing to a spot not too far from us.
Following his line of sight, I manage to spot the half-vampire weaving through the crowd with a familiar brunette on her tail: Michael. The boy seems to have bought himself a new leather jacket, probably to appeal more to his intended audience of one, Star, sauntering along behind her with some confidence as they converse together amicably, laughing with one another in response to some joke I can't hear, but the others can. David's jaw seems to clench a bit as he watches them, Paul and Marko smirking at each other as if they know something we don't, Dwayne leaning back a bit to whisper something to Laddie, who is perched on the back of his motorcycle once more. He rode with me on the way up, but quickly swapped when Star told him to do so, though he was clearly a little reluctant to do as he was told.
"Let's go." The blonde leader commands us, expecting us to follow him as he kicks his bike into gear, allowing Marko and Paul to take the lead, followed by Dwayne and then me, though it is obvious by the way he instantly moves his bike next to mine that I won't be a major part of this conversation. Loudly, we pull up in front of Michael as he goes to help Star onto his red motorcycle, the brunette's eyes widening at our sudden appearance, flicking his gaze between us until it lands on me. I smile in greeting, sitting back on my own Triumph as David makes a show of asserting his dominance, trying not to show how much it bothers me.
"Where you going, Star?" The vampire questions, tone neutral for now, though it will likely become harsher very soon.
"For a ride." She responds, trying to turn her back on us, as I have many times in the past.
"Let's go." Michael says to her, voice quieter than it was last night, though this is likely just because he wants to impress the girl trying to get on his motorbike with him.
Obviously, David can't let this slide.
"Star." This time, his voice is laced with authority and suggestion, his icy blue eyes watching her pointedly.
A low laugh emanates from the boys as the half-vampire gives in, climbing onto David's motorcycle with him, but not after making a show of dragging her hand over his chest with her eyes fixed on mine. Rolling my eyes, I zip up my jacket again, knowing that we'll be taking the wild ride home tonight, just to show off.
"You know where Hudson's Bluff is, overlooking the Point?" David inquires, raising an eyebrow at Michael as a downcast expression makes its way onto his face.
"I can't beat your bike." Michael confesses, hands tightening nervously around the handlebars.
"You don't have to beat me, Michael. You just have to try and keep up." With that, he revs his engine and puts the motorcycle into drive, speeding off the Boardwalk and onto the beach with a startled cry from Star, followed swiftly by the others. I take off after them, leading the way for Michael to chase me, grunting when the impact with the beach winds me, reminding me that I need to get the suspension on my motorbike fixed. Behind me, I hear the tell tale sound of Michael hitting the sand, his bike quickly catching up to us as we hurtle over the beach towards the cave, Paul and Marko weaving in and out of my path as we continue on, exhilarated whoops leaving them as they ramp up the speed.
Despite the thrill, I ride the entire way with a grim expression on my face, knowing Michael is unlikely to survive the night without being encouraged to join the boys - and from the impression I get of him, I know he won't refuse their insistence. I briefly break the facade when Laddie calls to me under the peer, his voice high over the howling wind in my ears, reassuring him that I'm still here, as well as letting the others know I haven't run off from them again. A curse escapes me when I recognise the small ridge the boys enjoy springing off of looming up, my own bike often struggling to follow them over it. Determined not to be outdone by a newcomer, I put my foot on the gas and pop off the top of it, overtaking Paul and Dwayne with a loud roar of the engine, a dry smirk making its way onto my face when Paul protests loudly, revving his own engine so he can catch up again. As usual, this begins a small race between us, one which he will undoubtedly win, even though I try my best to out do him each time.
Sitting lower on the bike, I push the accelerator up again until it reaches its highest, a shriek of exhilaration finally leaving me at the pure speed that follows, the uneven ground beneath me causing the motorbike to leave the ground a few times. To my left, Paul calls out teasing encouragement, goading me on to push the limit again, though I can already see the edge of the cliff approaching, so to up the speed further would be suicide. He might be able to survive a trip off the edge, but I certainly won't, which is why I have to pull up short when I get in range of the precipice.
"One more win for me! What's the score now, like a hundred to zero?" The triumphant vampire floats as he stops closer to the edge, sending me a proud grin as I flip him off, breathless but smiling, too, my mood having brightened considerably.
"Shut up, Paul."
A laugh leaves us both before we're interrupted by Michael and David pulling up a little way away, the former skidding on his bike as he overshoots the turn, falling to the floor with a grunt. The latter smirks down at him, a chuckle threatening to escape his lips even as Star looks on with worry. Dismounting, the rest of us approach them, quickening our pace in alarm when Michael lunges for our leader, punching him straight across the face. Anger flares up in me at the newcomer's boldness, quickly joining in with the boys as they go to hold him back, only to stop when we see David's reaction, my eyebrow raising a little at the cunning smirk he is carrying.
"...just you!" I finally tune into what Michael is saying, rolling my eyes at his stupidity, hanging back behind the boys with Laddie as I try to stop myself from laughing.
"How far you willing to go, Michael?" David challenges the brunette, features sharpened in the harsh white light from the lighthouse just offshore.
Confused, Michael can only watch as we hide our bikes and make our way down onto the steps leading to the cave, following behind David as we enter the sunken hotel. Immediately, I head over to my usual spot in the corner: a dusty old armchair covered in my notebooks, comics and other useless trinkets I've picked up, or been given, over the years. Plonking myself down, I busy myself with one of the sketchbooks sitting on the arm, taking a pencil and starting a rough sketch of the hotel interior, one of many. Marko approaches me as David begins his spiel about the history of the hotel and that, a pigeon held gently in his hand, the other stroking it as carefully as possible, a small smile gracing his lips.
"What're you doing?" He asks me, leaning over me to see the page, chuckling a little when I lift it to my chest to hide it out of instinct.
"Drawing." I reply, the corners of my lips twitching up into a smile at Marko's eyeroll, sitting up to get a closer look at the pigeon, "May I?"
The young vampire's smile broadens and he nods, holding the pigeon out to me in offering, allowing me to run a finger over its soft head, the bird chirping as it wriggles a bit in his grip.
"Marko! Food!" David's voice suddenly interrupts us, drawing a small groan of irritation from the vampire in question.
"Want me to come with?" I offer, putting aside the sketchbook as I stand up, stumbling over a fallen comic.
"If you want to." He accepts, releasing the pigeon with a flurry of feathers as he and I climb back out of the cave and into the cooling night air.
"One bike, or two?" I muse, looking over at him in curiosity.
"Two, and we race there." Marko grins, heading over to the hiding spot where we keep them, wheeling his out and waiting for me to do the same.
"Oh, you're on. Where to?" I agree, swiftly accompanying him on the road and pulling on my gloves, shivering a little in the cool wind blowing up from the sea.
"The Chinese place." He decides, starting his engine.
"Sure. On the count of three?" I do the same, adjusting my grip on the handlebars as I prepare myself to race.
"Sure."
"One..." I begin, sitting lower in the seat.
"Two..." He continues, sending a smirk over at me as he revs the engine loudly.
"Thr-" I start to finish, only to catch a mouthful of dust as Marko takes off, drawing a protest from me. In seconds, I've recovered from the shock, thundering after him at the highest speed I'll risk this close to the edge of the cliff, quickly catching up to him with my minorly faster bike. On sand, the Triumph struggles to keep up with their lighter motorctcles, but on roads? Now that's a fight I can win.
Cries of excitement leave us, mingling with the growling of the engines, both of us yelling friendly insults at each other as we turn corners and weave in and out of the thin traffic, my motorbike quickly taking a good position a little way ahead of him. Pride in the vehicle fills me, though I don't let myself get arrogant, upping the speed once more in order to stay ahead, lowering myself in the seat to increase my aerodynamic stance, grinning deliriously to myself as the wind rushes through my hair and clothes, only adding to the exhilaration. Around me, the few other road users call out words of protest and anger at my reckless driving, one car even swerving completely to avoid me when I accidentally take up a place on the wrong side of the road. By the time the lights of Santa Carla come into view, my heartbeat is already at it's highest, tears forming in my eyes at the barrage of air attacking them.
Luckily, the Chinese is just outside the beach town, so there's no need for me to adjust my speed to a pedestrian friendly one when I approach the restaurant, the bike even skidding as I pull up in the parking lot outside, the brakes complaining at the sharp application even as a mother and daughter do the same, the former mentioning something about unruly teens before directing her ten year old away from me. I'm pleased to see that I'm the first here, glad that I've finally won a race against one of the boys after all these years of trying, a burst of pride and triumph filling me as I watch Marko enter the area a few minutes later, a large grin on his face.
"Damn, that bike is fast." The young vampire compliments, reaching out to clap me on the shoulder as he comes to a halt beside me. Climbing off, we make our way into the takeaway restaurant, Marko slinging his arm around my shoulders affectionately as we go, giving me a pointed look when a blush creeps onto my cheeks, his sweet scent clouding my nose briefly until we enter the restaurant itself, at which point all I can smell is food, which makes me hungry.
Going to the front, we order a few things, mostly rice and noodles, and wait for them to make it up. As we do so, I lean up to whisper in his ear.
"We paying for this one, or?"
"I don't know, should we?" Comes the reply, both of us exchanging a secretive glance, "How fast do you feel tonight?"
A mischievous grin makes its way onto my face at his words, my pulse instantly picking up at the idea.
"Very."
"Good." He responds, smirking at me.
For a couple more minutes, we wait for them to prepare the food, before going up to collect it with a neutral expression on our faces. I reach into my pocket for one of the fake notes we tend to carry around, just as a decoy, handing it to the poor worker with a polite smile, taking the food and leaving the restaurant with some speed. As we emerge, we break into a sprint, racing to our bikes and quickly starting them up as the owner bursts through the doors, screaming at us to stop. Giggling to ourselves, we speed off, the food secure on the back of our bikes, trying to get as far away from there as we can before the police are called on us, though it is very unlikely that they will catch us. Triumphant laughs and calls escape us as we hurtle down the road, keeping an eye on our tails to make sure we're not followed, and that the food is still there, making our way home with considerable speed, once again avoiding all the traffic possible. Dust flies up around us as we turn onto the smaller road leading up to the Bluff, a surprised yelp erupting from my lips when my motorbike skids on the dirt, nearly sending me flying over the handlebars, though I manage to hold on with as much strength as I can muster. Just ahead of me, Marko looks back to see if I'm still in one piece, his momentary worry fading into amusement at the look on my face, my pulse having picked up considerably from my near-accident. As we approach the head of the cliff, his smirk still hasn't faded, it has only grown, finding it funny that the traction on the bike very nearly got me badly injured. Upon stopping, he starts his small comments, pestering me as we make our way back down into the cave.
"Feeding time! Come get it, boys." The vampire announces, chucking the boxes of takeaway at the others before handing me a pot of noodles, allowing me to retake my seat in the corner.
"Chinese. Good choice." David acknowledges, taking two from Marko and opening the first, offering it to Michael, who is sat across from his wheelchair. The brunette declines, to which David responds with his usual wit, "You don't like rice? Tell me, Michael, how can a billion Chinese people be wrong? Come on."
The others laugh at David's words as Michael grudgingly takes the pot, starting to eat as the rest of us do, looking up with confusion when David begins to play his first trick.
"How are those maggots?" He asks nonchalantly, looking inquiringly at his target. Instantly, I know he's decided to use his mind tricks.
When Michael fails to reply, David tries again.
"Maggots, Michael, you're eating maggots. How do they taste?"
At his words, Michael looks back down at his food, quickly throwing it on the floor and spitting the contents of his mouth at it, trying to clean it out. A laugh erupts from the coven of vampires at the brunette's expense, a dry smirk creeping onto my face at the confused expression on Michael's, Star scolding them a little.
"Sorry, no hard feelings, huh?" David apologises, picking at the pot of noodles in his own gloved hands, "You like noodles?"
"They're worms..." Michael states, rolling his eyes a little at the joke.
"What do you mean they're worms?" David says, shovelling a few noodles into his mouth in his usual messy fashion, returning his icy blue gaze back to Michael as he chews, "They're only noodles, Michael."
In disbelief, Michael snatches the pot away from him, picking some up with the chopsticks to inspect them, looking incredulous as they turn out to be inanimate, rather than alive. Another laugh escapes the group until Star butts in from her position a little way behind them.
"Leave him alone."
I try to fight the eyeroll that threatens to leave me, biting my lip when I see David call Marko over, whispering something in his ear. My eyes follow the young vampire as he goes to fetch the familiar jewelled bottle for his leader, handing it to him almost reverently. Having been given it, David opens it and takes a sip, shuddering at the metallic taste that accompanies it, before offering it to Michael.
"Drink, Michael, be one of us." The vampire encourages, smirking a bit at the brunette as he takes it, sniffing it. By now, Star has moved to stand behind him, looking nervous as hell, even though Michael's choice will not affect her in any way.
"You don't have to," She argues, speaking directly into his ear, "It's blood."
Michael scoffs, giving her a quick "Yeah, sure" as the boys start to chant his name, encouraging him to drink, whooping and cheering when he does, taking a long drag from the bottle before pulling away.
"BRAVO!" David calls out, ordering Marko to start pushing him around in the wheelchair as the others start to get excited, Paul swiftly lighting what is probably his fourth joint of the night to add to his buzzed state, Dwayne carrying a smile as he parades around with them. Sighing, I busy myself in my pot of food, picking up my sketchbook once more and carrying on with my previous drawing, knowing this will be a boy's night, preparing myself for yet more babysitting duties.
The hours drag on, the boys becoming more and more active as the night wears on, each of them drinking huge amounts of alcohol and smoking large amounts of cannabis and tobacco, ignoring the fact that Star and Laddie are trying to sleep in their beds. The former eventually manages this, but the latter struggles, coming over to me after around two hours to sit with me, watching the boys mess around, as well as me draw, holding himself close to me as if to keep himself safe - he might like the boys, but his trust in them is yet to become a steady thing. Somehow, he drifts off in my arms, causing me to stop sketching and hold him instead, rocking him a little to keep him asleep, which is where the boys find me when they finally decide to take the party elsewhere.
"We're going to the bridge, want to come?" Paul announces, shooting me a guilty look when I hush him, gesturing to the sleeping child in my arms.
"Sure, let me drop this one off in his bed first, then I'll be up." I agree, carefully standing and taking Laddie over to the cot the boys (I) prepared for him when they first came to us, tucking him in before stepping over to leave the cave, following the boys up and out.
As I emerge, I decide to myself that I don't want to ride by myself, so I go over to Paul with obvious intent, smiling thankfully at him when he lets me take a seat behind him. Doing so, I wrap my arms around his waist, holding on tightly when he and the rest of them take off, riding in formation with David at the front, though only after he gives me an odd look, most likely expecting me to ask him for a ride, even though he hasn't said more than two words to me all night.
The journey to the bridge isn't long, especially not at the speed the boys are going at, a small sense of regret welling up in me at Paul's particularly reckless driving, wishing I'd chosen someone safer instead. He seems happy enough that I chose him, though, so I sit tight and deal with it, wondering who'll take me home after this little show the boys have planned. As we approach, I'm quick to get off and pull off the gloves I forgot to remove earlier, wiping my sticky hands on my jeans so they won't slip off the bars of the bridge. As Paul dismounts, he throws himself onto my back, almost pushing me over with his sudden weight, a giggle escaping him as I grunt in surprise, my hands flying to grasp at the arms he has thrown around my neck.
"Jesus, Paul, you're heavy as hell!" I protest, wriggling out from underneath him as we step onto the train tracks running across the bridge.
"Hey, I'm not that weighty!" He laughs, quieting when Michael speaks up.
"What's going on?" He asks David, the platinum blonde throwing an arm around his shoulders.
"Michael wants to know what's going on." The boys chuckle at his words, though I don't, still trying my best to brace my muscles in preparation for the hang that will soon follow, "Marko, what's going on?"
David's voice is laced with sarcasm and heavy emphasis, drawing yet another laugh from the group.
"I don't know, what's going on, Paul?" Marko replies, grinning behind Dwayne's shoulder at us.
"Who wants to know?" Paul inquires, laughing with us as I finally crack a smile, their teasing amusing to me as it always has been.
"Michael wants to know!" Marko confirms again, stepping up onto the edge of the bridge as we come to a halt in the centre.
"I think we should tell Michael what's going on." David says suggestively, giving Marko a pointed look.
With one last smirk, Marko steps off the edge, looking down as he goes.
"Bombs awayyyyyy..." His voice trails off as he drops, as if he's fallen to the bottom, though I know full well he hasn't.
Paul goes next, letting out one of his odd noises as he goes. Dwayne follows, and then David steps up as if he's forgotten I'm here.
"Come with us, Michael." He says before stepping off as well, the brunette turning to me with a worried expression. I can only shrug as I step up, dropping off the edge with a wry smile.
For a second, I feel weightless, before I feel an arm grab hold of me, pulling me against their chest. Instinctively, I wrap my own arms around their neck, looking up at them to find David smirking down at me. Thanking him, I allow him to use his superior strength to lift me up a little, letting me grab hold of an overhanging bar, only releasing me when I have a firm, comfortable grip on it. I laugh nervously as I start to swing with the others, trying to avoid Marko and Paul as they take part in their usual kicking antics, Dwayne grinning across at me widely.
"Michael Emerson! Come on down!" David taunts up at Michael as the brunette finally realises we're all safe (ish), blue eyes piercing into each other.
Finally, he decides to join us, the rest of us greeting him with cheer of our own, allowing ourselves to swing for a little while before I hear the tell tale sounds of a train approaching, and not a light one, either. Adjusting my grip on the cold bar, I try to roll my cramping muscles a bit in time for the heavy vehicle to pass overhead, the metal structure of the bridge shaking under its weight, our bodies vibrating with the shuddering surface above us. Around me, the boys - barring Michael - whoop and cry out in exhilaration, their muscles much more capable of holding on than our human ones, their words distorted under the hooting and chugging of the engine above us, though it is clear when David yells at Michael to hold on. A quiet voice in the back of my head wants to speak up and ask what else he's supposed to do, but I ignore it, instead focusing on the hanging vampires surrounding me, grinning when Paul decides he's going to be the first to go. I don't catch what he says as he allows his hand to slip from the bar, crying out in mock terror as the fog swallows his lanky body, Michael's eyes widening in panic as his newfound friend meets his apparent demise. Marko goes next, though once again, I don't quite hear him as he opens his mouth to speak, my concentration now turning to the aching in my arms, my muscles starting to shake violently as they struggle to hold my body weight up. Sweat beads on my forehead despite the icy air around us, my hands becoming clammy and slippery around the smooth bar in their grip, my palms sliding on the metal, dangerously. I don't notice Dwayne has dropped until he's gone, the dark haired vampire shooting me a reassuring look as he vanishes into the mist. On my other side, I hear David shouting at Michael again, his voice just audible over the pounding above us.
"Michael, you're one of us! Let go!" The vampire encourages, most likely giving the brunette one of his signature grins.
"And do what?!" Michael calls back, incredulously, terror evident in his eyes. At this point, the adrenaline in me at the thought of falling, voluntarily, has made my pulse spike, my heartbeat pounding in my ears as I watch David let go, the black-clad vampire falling into the fog in silence, as usual.
"DAVID!" Michael screams after him, eyes wide and panic-stricken.
The train finally passes by, the new silence eerie until the familiar whoops and cries of the boys below us start to float up from the mist, once more reassuring me. Across from me, Michael tries one last time to pull himself up onto the bridge, before he looks at me.
"What do we do?" He questions, voice laced with fear.
"Let go." I confirm, giving him the most ressuring look I can, though I know it's still daunting to him, and me, even if I have done this many times before, "On three, ok?"
He nods, wincing as his muscles start to hurt him, just as mine are.
"One..." I start, eyeing him carefully, "Two..."
As I reach this, he let's out a groan of terror, fixing his eyes on me.
"Three..." I finish, allowing my hands to release their grip on the bar as I say this, the weightlessness of the freezing air around me only adding to the adrenaline racing through me, a giddy shriek of excitement ripping from my throat as we fall. Spreading my arms, I use them to slow the descent, knowing one of the boys will catch me, Michael unaware of this fact as he screams the whole way down, clearly not enjoying the experience at all. Eventually, they cut out; by which time I've stopped paying attention to him, relishing in the sensation of the wind howling around my body as it tumbles through it, the cold barely registering in my mind.
Just as I start to think the boys will let me fall to my death, I feel my body suddenly stop, a pair of strong arms halting me in my path, the impact drawing a grunt from me as the air is knocked from my lungs.
"Gotcha, Princess." Dwayne's familiar voice sounds in my ear as he pulls me into his chest, smiling gently down at me as the floating vampire notices my exhausted state.
"Thanks, Dwayne..." I murmur, trying to recover from the fall as best I can, a breathless laugh leaving me when he grins in response.
"Of course."
Panting a bit, I allow my head to fall into his chest, my arms looping around his neck so I can hold on with more safety, breathing in his familiar scent: motor oil, dust and cologne, the dark haired vampire often preferring not to reek of his meal's blood when around other people. Sighing, I let myself relax as I feel the air around me shift, signalling Dwayne's ascent to the bridge, my attention now fully on holding onto the tall vampire as I try my hardest not to give in to my sudden exhaustion. I barely notice as he takes me to his motorcycle, the boys all joking around us, David carrying Michael's limp body briefly before passing it on to Marko, who looks swamped by the taller boy's frame, the blonde rolling his eyes when his burden lets out a small groan in his blacked-out state, sweat still coating his pale brow. Gently, Dwayne props me up on his bike, climbing on in front of me and allowing me to wrap my arms around his waist, chuckling when I squeeze his muscular torso in thanks again. Energy dwindling, I feel my head fall forwards onto his shoulder, grunting when the motorcycle sparks into gear, the sudden noise jolting me briefly from my trance-like state, causing me to tighten my grip a little, hoping to secure myself better.
Dwayne drives slowly, Marko doing the same beside us as he provides a taxi service for the passed-out Michael, the two vampires conversing as they ride, voices only just audible to my human hearing, though I can barely make out what they're saying. My eyes remain fixed on the crimson tail lights of our companions a little way away, the bright dots bouncing and jolting as the corresponding bikes go over uneven parts of the ground below them, the two drivers calling out encouragement at each other, most likely racing one another. A smile forms on my lips at the sight of them, even if I can't technically see them, my former anger at them mostly forgotten for the minute; instead, I'm just happy to be with them, realising how grateful I am to them after all they've done for me. With this in mind, I decide to pay a visit to Santa Carla tomorrow night, whilst they're feeding, to think up some way to repay them.
Just as I figure this out, I feel Dwayne's motorcycle come to a halt, meaning we've reached home, a relieve sigh escaping me at the prospect of finally going to bed after this long night. As the engines cut out around me, I feel another pair of arms lift me up off the bike, cradling me against their chest as they start to move with me. A quick glance up confirms this person to be David, the blonde vampire catching my eye with a soft smile as he takes me down into the cave, the rest of the boys - except Marko, who has gone to drop off Michael and his motorcycle - trailing along behind him, both equally as glad as I am that their leader finally forgave me. Struggling to keep my eyes open, I wrap my arms around his neck and bury my face in his jacket, enjoying the smell that lingers around him, even if it does have the same sour odour I've come to associate with blood, the fabric of the garment making a comfortable headrest for me.
Minutes later, the feeling of my jacket and boots being tugged off makes it's way known, before quickly being replaced with the relieving sensation of a bed below me. Cracking my eyes back open again, I notice the boys standing around me, an unsure look on Paul's face as he twitches, itching to join me, the other two giving me more intent stares. I lift my arms up, gesturing for them to join me in the large bed, even if it is only for an hour or so, sighing happily when they all slip in beside me, David swiftly pulling me to lay in the crook of his arm, my head on his chest, whilst Dwayne moves to my other side, resting his head on my shoulder contentedly. Paul, as always, takes up his place in between my legs, placing his head on my abdomen as his hands move to hold my hips, pulling them closer to him as he lets out a groan of appreciation. Hazily, I feel a blush start to creep into my face as David starts to caress my hair, Dwayne tracing his fingers up and down my side comfortingly as Paul continues to rub circles into the skin of my hips, the attention from them all making me rethink my former inhibitions.
I fall asleep to the reassuring motions of the boys' affection, feeling as safe as I've ever been.
A Playdate in the Rain- Sarah Cameron
Request: Hi!! I was wondering if u could do prompts 12, 14, 22, 25, 28, and 53 with Sarah? Thank u💛
Summary: You and Sarah decide to run in the rain in her backyard like you did in the past, opening up about how you really feel.
Word count: 1,048
Prompts:
12. “Dance with me.”
14. “Who cares about what they think?”
22. “We’re in the middle of a thunderstorm and you wanna stop and feel the rain?”
25. “The power went out. It’s not the end of the world.”
28. “Apparently all our friends have a bet going that we end up together.”
53. “I mean friends can just make out with each other, right?"
Laying on your best friend's bed, you had your head in Sarah Cameron's lap, looking out the window as the dark grey clouds rolled in. Her hand was intertwined in your hair, gently fixing any tangles you had. Music played in the background, deafening the sound of the raindrops falling on the roof.
She jumped underneath you as a loud clap of thunder echoed in the sky. You giggled as she clamped her hand over her heart. Jokingly, she shoved you off of her and off of the bed. She covered her mouth with her hands, peering over the edge of the bed to see you on the ground.
You were too busy laughing on the floor, giggling at the thumping sound you made when your body hit the floor. "Y/N I am so fucking sorry!" She said through her laughter. You rolled your eyes, sticking your hand up for her to grab, you easily pulled her down to the ground you.
She groaned in pain, slapping your arm hard. She let out a shriek of horror as the power went out. You sat up with her, watching the rain pour outside of the window. "The power went out, it's not the end of the world." You chuckled, getting up and fixing your shorts. "Leave me alone, we're home alone. When the power goes out and I'm home alone I automatically think it's a serial killer."
You leaned against the windowsill, noticing just how hard the rain was hitting. An idea popped in your head. "Let's go run around in the rain." You said, looking back at Sarah. She furrowed her eyebrows at you, standing up off the ground.
"We're in the middle of a thunderstorm and you wanna stop and feel the rain?" Sarah asked, joining your side. You faced her, "what? I mean why not? And since Rafe didn't get the generators you guys needed it'll be a bit before the power comes back on. Let's do it, like we did when we were kids." You grinned, grabbing her hands in yours. She looked up from your hands to your face, a light pink color on her cheeks.
"Fine." She agreed. You both had changed into large t-shirts and shorts, towels in your hands and ready to use. The two of you stood in front of the backyard doors, watching the rain droplets fall and hit the ground. Making the first move, you opened the door and laid your towel on the patio undercover. Sarah stood inside, watching as you jumped in puddles and splashed in the cool water.
"Dance with me!" You yelled towards her, twirling around with your arms out. She walked outside, throwing the towel aside before joining you. Her smile never left her face as she pranced around in the backyard with you. You laid on your back letting the water hit your exposed skin. Sarah couldn't help but watch you with a small smile on her face.
For the last few months, you and Sarah had been closer than normal. Sometimes being more touchy with each other, more compliments, things that people in a relationship would do. You couldn't lie, you did start to develop feelings for your best friend of 7 years.
Sarah joined your side, smiling at the feeling of you intertwining your hands together. She bit on her bottom lip, deciding if she should bring up a certain topic. She came to a conclusion after you turned to look at her, watching as the droplets of rain trail down her facial features.
"Apparently all our friends have a bet going that we end up together.” Sarah broke the silence, watching your expression to try to figure out what you were thinking. A grin broke out on your face, blush immediately covering your cheeks.
"I- uh I didn't- know that you- you liked girls." You stuttered sitting up in the grass, hoping that she didn't see the obvious pink tinted to your cheeks. She sat up with you, shrugging her shoulders. "I mean, I haven't really told anybody that I'm bi, only Wheezie." She admitted, her fingers picking the grass to pieces. You shook your head as an understanding, remembering the time you came out to your parents.
"How did you do it? If you don't mind me asking." She quietly asked. You tucked your legs underneath you as you spoke, "it wasn't easy. I told my sister first of course, and I ended up waiting like 3 months after that to tell my parents. Before I could even start talking I started to cry. I just told them that I was bi and it got really quiet afterwards. But then they told me that it was a new change that it would take some getting used to, but they were okay with it." You mumbled, reaching over and grabbing onto her hand
"Love is love, Sarah. Love whoever the fuck you want. Who cares what they think? If your parents don't like that, then you can easily move in with me. My parents love you, they'll accept you. You shouldn't be afraid to be yourself." You lightly squeezed her hand, a sign of reassurance. Sarah scooted towards you, wrapping her arms around your neck.
You held her tight to you, your arms comfortably around her waist. "Thank you for understanding me Y/N." She mumbled into the crook of your neck before placing a delicate to your skin. Your body shivered as you pulled back from her.
" I'm sorry Y/N, I didn't mean to-" you silenced her by connecting your lips together. She grinned into the kiss, her heartbeat accelerating. She leaned into your touch, her thumb skimming over your cheek bone. Her whole body immediately felt hot as your breath fanned over her skin. She gave you that beautiful smile before giving you another kiss, your hand cupping the side of her face.
She pulled away from you, allowing you both to catch your breath. "We can't let our friends know that this happened, they can't win a bet." She laughed, brushing the water droplets away from your face. Nodding your head you grinned. "I mean friends can just make out with each other, right?" You asked, cocking your head to the side.
"Oh absolutely."
Empty Castle
Pairing: JJ x reader
Summary: Three weeks after John B and Sarah Cameron were lost at sea, Kildare is still reeling from the dramatic events surrounding the death of its sheriff. JJ in particular has been struggling to get back to normal, so Y/N goes to try and help him get back on his feet. Sequel to Holding Cell.
Warnings: tiny bit of swearing, v sad JJ
Word Count: 4.2k (about double what I originally intended)
A/N: This took way longer than expected and I didn't mean for this to be so sad but it got real sad, so there isn't really anything beyond platonic until towards the end. I would highly suggest that you read Holding Cell first (perhaps because I worked hard on it and I want people to read it) but if you really don't want to then all you really need to know is that JJ and Y/N were childhood friends but hadn't spoken for two years until they both got arrested on the same day and they decided to be friends again. Cool, enjoy! :)
The bell for the end of school rang and the crowd of teenagers swarmed out, and you made your way to the bike rack along with your friends.
"So, my house for movie night?" Jess said, and the rest of your friends chorused in agreement.
"Actually, I have something else to do." You replied, fastening your helmet. "I'll come by after if I finish up in time."
"What are you doing?"
"I need to go see someone." You replied, quickly getting on your bike before any further questions could be asked. "Later guys."
You cycled out to the house that you knew was where John B lived - basically the entire island knew where he lived after everything that had happened - and left your bike on the porch. The front door was open.
"JJ?" You called tentatively. "Are you here?" You heard movement from one of the rooms and turned towards it, seeing JJ walk out a few moments later. He looked disheveled, shirtless and with messy hair.
"Y/N?" He asked, surprised. His voice was slightly gravelly, like he'd woken up not long ago. "Why are you here?"
"I came to find you, JJ. School started on Monday, you've missed the whole week."
"School started?" His question made you frown in worry. "Wait, how did know I'd be here?"
"Because you're not anywhere else." You answered, putting down your school bag. "Nobody's really seen you. I stopped by at your house and your dad said-"
"You did what?"
"Relax, JJ, it's not as if he has any idea who I am. And he told me that you haven't been home in two weeks."
"I'm surprised he's kept track." JJ muttered.
"Clearly you haven't." The comment made JJ pause. He ruffled his hair and let out a long sigh, looking down at his own appearance. "What have you been doing these past weeks?"
"I don't know." He shrugged. "It's kinda blurred. I go to work, I go fishing, I smoke. I really didn't realise that school had started." He crossed the room to the sofa and grabbed a tank top off of the back of it, throwing it on before making his way to the kitchen.
"So I take it you've just been living here." You stated, looking around the mess that had accumulated in the house.
"Yeah. Pope and Lie have been staying away from the place ever since, uh..." He trailed off, pushing his tongue against his cheek and clearing his throat. "But me, I'm here basically all the time. They use Heyward's boat so I've got the HMS Pogue all to myself; they use Kie's car, I get that busted up van." He laughed, but there was a real sadness behind it.
You watched JJ as he made himself a sandwich, and even from a distance you could tell that there was barely any food in that kitchen. A few seconds passed and you spun on your heel, starting to collect empty food packages from around the room.
"What are you doing?"
"Cleaning." You answered matter-of-factly. "If you insist on staying here, I insist that you keep it clean."
"Why do you even care?"
When you turned around to face him JJ was leaning against the kitchen door frame. He wasn't looking at you, rather he was staring at the floor. His body language was relaxed but you knew that that wasn't how he was feeling.
"What happened to the 'giving to whole friendship thing another try' deal?" You replied. "I'm just trying to live up to my side of the agreement."
"Maybe that wasn't such a great idea."
"Okay." You muttered after a stretch of silence. "Let's try this again later. You go off back to your bedroom or whatever, I'll clean up here and we can reconvene at a later time." You pushed past him into the kitchen to look through the cabinets for trash bags, and when you found them you pushed past him back to the living room.
"Y/N-"
"I'm not leaving, JJ, so don't even try it." You interrupted, throwing empty bottles and cans into a trash bag. You heard him mutter something under his breath and disappear down the hall, slamming the door shut behind him. You scoffed and continued clearing the house.
You got rid of all of the trash from the living room and the kitchen before knocking on the door to the room JJ had shut himself in. By now he'd had about half an hour of preparation for a civil conversation.
When you opened the door he was lying on his back on the bed with a hat covering his face, but you knew he was awake because he kept fiddling with his fingers and tensing and untensing his jaw.
"You ready to talk about it?" You asked softly, taking a seat at the foot of the bed.
"No." He mumbled, his response muffled by the hat over his face.
"Want a hug?" He didn't answer, so you took his silence to mean 'yes but I don't want to say it out loud'. You kicked off your shoes and shuffled up the bed so that you were lying beside JJ, draping an arm over his body and resting your head on his chest. He let out a long sigh and slowly wrapped his arm around your body, pulling you in closer.
You stayed like that for a long time, just listening to yourselves breathe while you waited for JJ to be ready to talk to you.
"We really ran off a cliff, didn't we?" He finally broke the silence, his voice quiet and full of emotion as he removed the hat from over his face. "Pope lost his scholarship, I've become a complete pothead, John B and Sarah are missing. We don't even have the gold."
"Gold?" You questioned.
"We found the wreck of the Merchant, Y/N." He whispered, staring up at the ceiling. "And we found the gold, underneath the Craine house, and Ward Cameron took the whole lot out from under us while the town was on a manhunt for John B."
"Oh my god, JJ!" You exclaimed, sitting up. "You seriously found the Merchant gold?"
"Yep. To finish what Big John started. But it doesn't matter now, it's gone. Just like John B." His voice broke as he said his best friend's name, and you lay back down beside him.
"I'm sorry."
"They could still be out there, right?" JJ murmured. "I mean, they found the Phantom but they didn't find John B and Sarah. Maybe they got picked up by a ship."
"Yeah of course, that's totally possible." You nodded. The silence stretched out again, JJ sniffling every now and then as if holding back from crying.
After a while you sat up, getting JJ's attention and he turned his head to look at you.
"Let's go grocery shopping." You said. "There's barely any food in this house, you need some supplies."
"I haven't really got the money, Y/N."
"My parents just left town and I never spend all of the money that they leave so we can use that." You replied adamantly. "You need to get some human contact, okay? So let's go."
You climbed off of the bed and put your shoes back on before pulling JJ up as well. Reluctantly, he put on some shoes and grabbed the keys to John B's van.
+++
The two of you were out for about an hour. You stopped off at your house to grab the cash before going to the grocery store, where you ended up leading the shopping trip because JJ apparently had basically no knowledge of nutrition. Being with another person seemed to bring JJ out of the haze that he had been presumably for the past few weeks; he even smiled at a joke you made while you were at the checkout.
"I didn't expect you to have enough money for a full grocery shop." JJ said as the two of you packed the food away in the kitchen.
"Well, because my parents don't talk to each other they also don't coordinate their trips out of town which most often results in them both leaving money for me." You explained. "I never tell them, I just keep the extra cash as compensation for the neglect." You smiled, closing the cabinet you had been packing things into and turning around to take a seat on the counter. JJ finished putting away the last of the groceries and leant against the wall opposite you, folding his arms over his chest.
"Why'd you really come find me?" He asked.
"Well, after John B and Sarah got lost in the storm it was obvious that you weren't going to be doing the best." You answered, watching him carefully to gauge how he was feeling. "And when you didn't show up for school all of this week, I figured that you might need a friend to bring you back to reality."
"I, uh, I appreciate that." He nodded, his lips turning upwards into a small smile.
"Happy to help." A silence settled between you again, as it had many times throughout the evening, but it felt a little different this time; slightly more tense, but not in a bad way.
"Do you wanna go out on the boat?" JJ suggested. "The sun's about to set."
"Sure. Sounds nice." You replied, hopping off of the counter. His smile grew and he kicked off the wall, adjusting his hat on his head as he headed back to the front door, you following after.
You took a seat on the bow of the boat while JJ got it going, and you stayed in silence as he drove you out into the marsh. The sky was orange and violet when he anchored the Pogue, and he came to take a seat beside you.
"It's nice, isn't it?" He said quietly, looking out at the sun setting over the water. "I come out here most nights if I'm not still at work."
"Yeah, it's beautiful." You nodded. "What's your job?"
"Busboy in a hotel restaurant. You got a job?"
"Nah, I've got my absent parent money." You looked over at JJ and you could see sympathy in his eyes. "Don't feel bad for me, it's really not so terrible." You chuckled. You didn't need sympathy; certainly not from JJ, who was in a far more difficult situation than you.
You talked idly as you watched the sunset and when the sky turned dark you had settled into silence and lay back on the boat to look up at the stars. The two of you were lying with your hands on your stomachs, your elbows touching with the proximity in the small boat.
"What if they're not out there?" JJ whispered, barely audible.
"Then... we learn to keep going." You answered, turning your head to look at him. "Look, JJ, I was never as close to John B as you were, and I have no idea how you guys became friends with Sarah Cameron, but whether they're out or not, and whether they cane back, you'll always have them with you."
He turned to look at you too, tears shining in his eyes, and you reached a hand out to grab his and interlocked your fingers.
"I know it's cliché, but it's true." You smiled reassuringly. "They left you a piece of themselves to keep in your heart, and nothing can ever take that from you." He held onto your hand tightly, a single tear escaping his eye as he tensed his jaw to try and hold back any more.
"I really miss him, Y/N." He sniffled. "He was my brother, you know." You quickly moved to hug JJ, your body half on top of his as he wrapped his arms around you tightly and buried his face in your shoulder as he started to break down.
You maneuvered the two of you into a sitting position so that you could wrap your arms around him properly, cradling his head in your hand. He held onto you tightly, his tears soaking through your t-shirt and his body shaking with his sobs.
Minutes passed before JJ calmed down, and you held onto his shoulders as you broke away from the hug.
"You'll be alright. Okay?" You said softly, and he nodded. "I'll drive us back." You wiped away the tears on his face with your thumbs with a smile, before getting up to bring up the anchor.
JJ stayed where he was sat while you drove the boat back to John B's house. You docked the boat and went inside, the atmosphere heavy. He took a seat on the sofa while you flicked on the lights.
"Can I tell you something, Y/N?" He asked.
"Yeah, of course."
"I used to have the biggest crush on you when we were kids." The confession left you a little shocked, but you didn't show it, and JJ continued. "John B used to tease me about it all the time. When we were thirteen, after, like, four years of pining after you, he told me that I just needed to man up and tell you... but I never did, and then our friendship kind of just fell apart."
"Why are you telling me this now?" You questioned, and JJ let out a sigh before shrugging.
"I don't know. With John B missing and you suddenly back in my life... it just feels weird." He answered. "But I'm glad that you're here. I think I really need it."
"I think you do too." You chuckled. "Now, I'm gonna make us something to eat."
"Us?"
"What, you don't want me to stay?"
"No!" He defended himself loudly, making you laugh. "No, that's not it at all. I just wasn't expecting you to."
"Well, I have nowhere else to be." You smiled before disappearing into the kitchen.
You busied yourself in cooking, cutting up some chicken and vegetables and throwing them into a stir fry. You were completely absorbed in what you were doing, humming to yourself while you pushed the food around the pan with a wooden spatula, so when you felt a hand on your shoulder it made you jump.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." JJ apologised quickly, taking a small step back. "I said your name but you didn't hear me."
"Oh, really? Sorry." You chuckled. "What did you want?"
"Just... You weren't weirded out that I used to have a crush on you?" He asked tentatively.
"No, of course not." You shrugged turning back to the pan. "I'll admit it was a little surprising, but we were kids and we were super close. Jess used to tease me about that all the time."
"About us being close?"
"Yeah. I remember one time she totally freaked out because you called me pretty. Can you get a couple of plates out for me please?" You heard JJ open a cupboard and take out a couple of plates.
"For what it's worth," He said, setting the plates down on the counter beside you and taking out some cutlery. "I still think you're pretty."
"Aw, thanks JJ." You smiled. "You're not too bad yourself."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He countered, feigning offense, and you laughed.
"Nothing. You're a good looking guy; not at all like the chubby cheeked little kid that I used to know."
You dished up your meals and you and JJ went back to the living room to eat. You kicked you legs up onto the sofa with your plate on your lap and tucked in. It was later in the evening than you would usually eat, so you were eager to get some food into your stomach. Even still, JJ practically vaccumed in the food and finished before you did. He took the plates back through to kitchen when you finished.
"You gonna head home any time soon?" He asked.
"I'm not in a rush." You shrugged. "I'll just be going back to an empty house." JJ hummed in acknowledgement. He lifted your legs up to sit on the couch beside you, putting them back down on his lap once he'd gotten himself situated. Maybe him being in such a vulnerable situation earlier had accelerated your connection, but it was like those two years that you didn't talk at all never even happened; you were just as close as ever, if not more somehow.
"You're gonna stick around, right?" He said, turning to look at you. You tilted your head slightly.
"Of course." You reassured, smiling. "I'm not gonna leave you now, of all times. Besides, I missed you and we were supposed to be trying the friendship thing again anyway."
"Yeah, the friendship thing." He muttered, downcatsing his gaze, and you frowned.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"JJ, you can tell me." You took your legs off of his lap and crossed them under you, shuffling forwards towards JJ and lowering your head to try and catch his gaze.
"I..." He began but trailed off immediately. He let out a loud sigh, running a hand over his face and through his hair before taking a deep breath. "I know that I might just be saying this because I'm kinda fucked up in the head with my friends being lost at sea and all, but I think I still like you Y/N. As more than a friend." He rambled.
"JJ, we didn't speak to each other for two years." You replied, taken aback by what he was saying and trying to introduce some reason into the conversation.
"I know- I know that, Y/N, but... it doesn't feel like anything has changed for me." He explained, mirroring your body language and crossing his legs under himself to face you. "I get it, it's stupid, but I can't help that. I mean, I know that we were literally twelve years old but when we were friends before I think that there was something there. Maybe I'm biased because I liked you, but maybe..."
He looked at you, his eyes searching for any tell of what you were thinking, and there was a long pause while you thought.
"Even if there was something." You started slowly. "We were kids, JJ."
"We still are kids. We're sixteen." He argued. "When we were at the sheriff's station I felt something there, even though we hadn't spoken for two years. Tell me you didn't feel it too."
You looked away from him and took a deep breath. You would be lying if you said that you never had any feelings for JJ - he was probably the first real crush that you had - and it was probably your feelings for him that made you react so strongly when he would get himself into trouble. And you did think that being with JJ again felt much the same as it had done back then; plus, you hadn't been lying when you said that he'd grown up to be pretty handsome. Even still, he was going through an incredibly difficult time and you didn't think it would be a good idea to start any kind of relationship.
"Maybe... Maybe there might be something." You mumbled. "But right now really isn't the time to try it."
"Why not?"
"Because... well, you..." You struggled to articulate what you wanted to say.
"Y/N, I know it's a really messed up time, okay? Two of my best friends are lost at sea and I haven't spoken to the other two in weeks. I have lost all of the people closest to me and I feel completely alone, so maybe the fact that you're literally the only person that I have right now is making my feelings more extreme - I recognise that - but that doesn't mean that they're not real."
"JJ, I can't in good conscience agree to pursuing anything with you right now." You replied softly, shaking your head. It hurt you to have to say no.
"Don't you want to try?" He asked, voice a little weak as he looked into your eyes. "It doesn't need to be a huge commitment, we can just give it a try."
You looked over his face, the cogs turning in your mind as you thought through the situation. You really did want to give it a try, you were just worried that it might do JJ more harm than good. But the longer you ĺooked and him and the more you thought about the possibility, the more you wanted to pursue it.
"No promises, no big commitments... but I'll stick around." You smiled slightly, and you put a hand gently against JJ's cheek when he smiled back. "I just don't want you to get into something that's not good for you." He chuckled, taking your hand from his face and holding it in both of his.
"You've always been looking out for me." He mumbled, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. "Where would I be without you?"
"Somewhere messy I'm sure." You smiled.
"Definitely."
You sat in silence for a minute. You were watching JJ's face while he fiddled with your fingers. He let out puffs of air every once in a while like he had just remembered something funny, and it made you smile. You yawned, suddenly realising that you were actually really tired.
"Since I'd be going home to an empty house anyway," you began, breaking the short silence. "Would you be alright with me maybe staying here for the night?" JJ looked up from your hands with an amused smile.
"Of course." He answered happily. "I could use the company."
"Great."
He stood up from the sofa and gently pulled you up after him. Your hands remained connected as he walked you through to the same bedroom as earlier and flicked on the lights.
"This is where I've been crashing." He said, quickly scratching the back of his neck. "You can stay here with me if you want, or you can stay in the other bedroom if you'd rather do that." He became noticeably more tense at the mention of the other bedroom, and you just knew that it was because that was John B's room even though you'd never been there before.
"I'll stay here." You smiled, giving his hand a comforting squeeze. "Can I borrow a t-shirt?"
"Yeah, sure." He let go of your hand and crossed the room to a duffel bag in the corner. "There's stuff in all the drawers so I've kinda just been living out of this thing." He pulled out a t-shirt and handed it to you.
"Thank you." You smiled as you took it. JJ nodded awkwardly and shuffled past you out of the room, pulling the door shut after himself.
You quickly rid yourself of your school clothes and put on the t-shirt that JJ gave you - which was long and baggy on your body - before hopping onto the bed and covering your legs with the covers. He came back in not long later carrying two glasses of water.
"I figured you might want a drink at some point." He mumbled, setting the glass down on the bedside table. You gave a grateful smile and quiet thanks as he turned on the bedside lamp and then went to turn off the main light.
"We used to have sleepovers sometimes when we were kids." You mumbled as he walked around the bed and climbed in beside you. "Do you remember?"
"Yeah, of course I do." He smiled, lying down. "We used to stay up until midnight thinking that it was a big deal."
"It was back then. Midnight is really late when you're ten years old."
"I miss when little things like that could be so exciting." He sighed, staring up at the ceiling. You looked down at him thoughtfully, absentmindedly reaching out to brush a piece of hair out of his face.
"Well, anything can be exciting with the right company." You said softly. His eyes shifted to connect with yours and he smiled ever so slightly. "We have the whole weekend ahead of us, maybe we could do something fun. Go surfing, like old times, maybe?"
"That sounds nice." He murmured.
You shuffled down the bed to rest your head on the pillows and reached over to flick off the table lamp. You lay on your side facing JJ as he remained looking up at the ceiling. With the moonlight coming through the window you could just see the silhouette of his face and a slight shine where the light reflected off his eyes.
"What are you thinking about?" You whispered after a while.
"Lots of stuff."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Maybe tomorrow." He answered with a sigh, turning his head to look at you. "But thanks."
"No problem." You smiled. "We'll talk tomorrow." You shuffled towards JJ and curled into his chest as he wrapped an arm around you. You felt him press a very light kiss to the top of your head and it made you smile. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." He replied, holding you a little tighter, and you fell asleep in each other's arms. For the first time since John B and Sarah went missing, JJ had some comfort and you were happy to be the person to provide that for him.
WILD THINGS -OneShot
Ssssshhh Sssshhhh
"We have to be quiet," Betty whispered as Jughead kissed down her neck, digging his teeth in harshly.
"Fuck that." Jughead moaned. His words vibrating along Bettys skin making goose bumps rise and tickle her senses.
Betty held Jughead tighter as she brought his lips back to hers kissing him madly in the janitors closet of Riverdale high.
It was a small cupboard filled with mops and chemicals and tin buckets. Making it really hard to move or keep quiet with all their lustful advances. They had no idea how they both fit in there, but it was the only place they could find in their hurried rush, during their free period.
Jughead was pressed flat against Betty's body wishing they weren't wearing any clothes. They had never done it in a cupboard before. Granted the gym ,the principal’s office, the science lab and the bleachers were all just as risky, but with only minutes left of the school day they weren't about to try.
Jughead's hands smoothed over every inch of her body while Betty held tight to his Jacket collar, making it easier for her to tilt his head and kiss him deeper. Their breathing sharp and heavy, the only thing that could give their hiding spot away at this point.
"God how do you taste so good?" Jughead groaned into her mouth running his tongue over her own. She was like sweet candy to him. Addicted to her sugar high and pink skirts.
Betty smirked against his lips raising her leg slowly up along his jean clad stalks and wrapping it around him. Teasing him to no end. Leaving him no choice, but to grind against her.
"I love it when you do that," Betty whispered breathlessly, grinding her hips back against his.
"You still going out with Archie tonight?" Jughead gritted out trying to think of something to cool his body down.
"Yeah," Betty said dangerously, running his ear lobe through her teeth, "but you're still coming over after that right?"
"Fucking definitely." Jughead grabbed her face roughly, kissing it just as the bell rang.
Like lightning both teens fell out of the cupboard, wanting to get out into the hallway before anyone saw they were in there, or that they were even together for that matter.
High school was a weird place. There was a status quo to keep. Reputations to uphold and Betty and Jughead liked to sneak around.
They had decided to go public for their senior prom which was in a few months and Betty couldn't be more excited but there was one thing she had to do first.
Tell her childhood best friend Archie Andrews.
It was a known fact to everyone even Betty that Archie had a crush on her, but Betty didn't feel the same way. How could she when the school's bad boy Jughead Jones had captured her heart as soon as he walked in the door.
Archie was her best friend though, Betty really didn't want to hurt him. So tonight she was meeting him at pops like they always did as though everything was normal.
As she sat there waiting for him that night she laughed to herself at what Jughead would be thinking about all this right now. She knew Jughead hated Archie and the feeling was definitely mutual. She could just picture him rolling his eyes and cursing under his breath.
"Betty hey sorry I'm late," Archie smiled as he approached and sat down in front of her at their usual booth.
"Hey don't worry Arch I just ordered our usual."
"A Vanilla and strawberry milkshake with fries?"
"What else?" Betty chuckled back.
"Cool."
Then silence fell between them as Betty looked around the diner. It had been happening a lot lately. Maybe they were running out of things to say.
"So....." Archie began slowly. "Did you go home in free period this afternoon? I didn't see you after?"
"Yeah I did," Betty replied quickly, steadfast in her answer. No sign of a lie.
"Well I got detention so that sucks," Archie rolled his eyes laughing at the stupidity of it.
Betty was about to reply when Pop suddenly appeared at their booth with two delicious looking milkshakes.
"Thanks Pop. I don't think I could survive without one of these in my life," Betty joked, taking a sip of hers right away.
"It's my pleasure. Now you kids enjoy," He said in a cheery voice before carrying a chocolate milkshake over to another booth.
She smiled to herself thinking of Jughead and his addiction to Pop's chocolate milkshakes. He was the same as her. Couldn’t live without them.
"You seem happy tonight?" Archie piped up. Betty hadn't noticed he had been staring at her.
But in that moment everything was about to change. No one’s life would ever be the same again.
Betty's happiness would soon fade never to return.
No one had expected it. No one saw it coming.
But the end of the world was here.
Now.
Today.
At that very moment.
-----
The electricity went first. Even the street lights
All the lights went out in an instant, confusing people to start.
Betty knew Pop had a backup generator but when that didn’t kick in she started to worry.
“What’s going on?” Archie asked in the dark. Speaking a bit louder than usual to be heard over everyone else's concerned conversations.
“I .. I don’t know,” Betty said as she pulled out her phone to see if she could find any information online.
Maybe it was across town, she thought.
It wasn’t.
The more she looked, the more she read the more horrified she became.
Then all at once her phone died. Sending her heart rate through the roof in panic. It had been fully charged.
“Did your phone just..?” Archie began but when he looked up and saw people running out of the diner he got his answer.
Betty didn’t know what to do or say. Was it safer inside or outside?
She knew from what she had quickly seen on her phone that they were coming. Invading the world like it was their own and it petrified her to think they could be here at any moment.
“We need to go,” Betty decided frantically, her body starting to shake. “Now!”
Running out the door the world around them had already turned to chaos. Buildings were in fire. People were running and screaming.
A horrified gasp escaped Archie’s lips.
“Holy shit.”
They were here and they were going to kill everything on their path.
“I...I’m...” Betty looked to Archie for help for some sort of direction but he was gone. Fleeing the scene as she looked around. She was all alone.
Betty couldn't think straight. Frozen in her spot just watching everything unfold in front of her. As though she was just waiting to be struck down. With nothing she could do to save her own life.
This was it. She would die in the car park of her favourite place.
“BETTY ! BETTY! BETTY! - WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! GO GET OUT OF HERE GO!”
It was Jughead. He was shaking her holding her by the shoulders a wild terrified look in his eye.
“RUN TO THE WOODS I'LL MEET YOU THERE GO!”
What was he doing here. How did he find her so fast. The fact that he thought of her when the world was ending only made Betty feel even more drunk emotions. God she really did love him. That was the first time she had admitted it to herself and it could very well be the last.
“BETTY! ARE YOU LISTENING?!”
Jughead could see she was completely spaced out. Her mind shutting down from the whole situation., but he wasn’t about to let that happen
Grabbing her with force he pulled her close slamming their lips together. Hoping it would wake Betty up like it usually did.
His secret love and passion for her pouring into the kiss. Betty responded immediately holding onto him for dear life. Knowing it might be the last time they see each other.
Betty moaned as Jughead licked her lips slipping his tongue along her own.
A loud explosion breaking them apart.
“What - What’s happening? How are you here? where do I …”
Jughead cupped her cheek trying to calm her.
“BETTS LISTEN TO ME. GO INTO THE WOODS. YOU'LL BE SAFE. HIDE IN DILTONS BUNKER. I’LL FIND YOU,” Jughead said more calmly than he should have. But in the moment whenever they were together time slowed around them.
“I will always find you,” he kissed her one last time.
“I love you,” Betty whispered, her lips lingering on his. She had to tell him even if he wouldn’t say it back.
“I….”
——
Tears ran down Betty’s cheeks as she ran through the woods blood dripping down her arm and leg. Her side stabbing in pain her wound stretched more and more as she ran. But she didn’t stop.
Adrenaline pushing her forward.
She made sure the opening to the bunker was covered in leaves and branches and she closed the lid and practically fell down the ladder inside.
Thank god there was a first aid kit.
Betty cried as she tended to her wounds. Not just from the pain but from absolutely everything. The world was ending. And she was alone.
And Jughead. Had come to save her. But then …
She couldn’t even think about it. All she could do was cry for him.
Laying on the old cot in the bunker Betty shivered. Not because she was cold but because she was so scared.
She didn’t know when she would see the sun again. Lucky there was enough supplies down here to last at least a month.
THREE MONTHS LATER
Betty moved quickly between the trees trying to get back to safety. She’d learnt to run fast and never look back over the past few weeks.
Holding the food that she’d stolen from a nearby hidden camp tightly in her fist. Saving her nails from drawing blood, Betty prepared herself to fight.
She’d run out of food a long time ago and couldn’t live off berries and water any longer. But now she fully regretted wanting anything else. She thought it would go unnoticed but it didn’t and now she was being chased.
Betty didn’t know what the world had come to. She’d spent so long underground all she knew was that some people had survived and Jughead was gone.
Darting behind a big tree Betty hid trying to catch her breath. She Barely had any energy these days. She couldn’t hear any heavy footsteps as her breathing slowed and decided to make a break for it. With not very far left to go.
But as she did Betty ran straight into a hard tree. Falling to the ground. Well that’s what she thought anyway.
Coming to her senses waiting for the world to stop spinning Betty honestly thought she was dreaming.
“Jughead…?”
