The Dev of Revue Starlight PbtA Rambles For A Bit
Tumblr media
So, Revue Starlight ReLIVE has announced end of service.
It feels weird. People have joked about the game being on life support for so long as if it'd happen any day now, to the point where it started feeling like "if Starira was going to EoS, it'd have happened already!" So, now that the announcement has come, it's kind of wrapped back around to being shocking.
I was one of the first to play it when the global servers launched back in 2019, before I even touched the Revue Starlight anime, stage plays, or other media. Though I do have my qualms with how the game was run, to put it lightly, the stories it had to tell and the characters it had to share always had a special place in my heart.
I don't doubt that Revue Starlight as a whole is going to sunset anytime soon, as we still have tons of stage plays - the heart and soul of the franchise - coming out through the foreseeable future, as well as El Dorado coming out very soon.
However, what does give me pause is thinking about the stage girls that never really got their own footing outside of the mobile game: in particular, Rinmeikan and Frontier. Some of their characters have gotten the chance to play supporting roles in the stage play and other media, but they've never been able to assemble the cast necessary to give them a major focus compared to Siegfeld, Seiran, and, of course, Seisho. With Starira sunsetting, it makes me worry that they won't have a "home" any longer, nor will it be easy for people in the future to access the stories that they do have.
...With that in mind, it gives me renewed encouragement to continue working on the Revue Starlight TTRPG. I want this to be a vehicle for anyone to create & experience new stories with all of the Stage Girls for as long as people are willing to meet at a table and roll dice.
Creating a game that sits at an intersection between two already independently niche circles of interest - Revue Starlight and indie TTRPGs - is, simply, kind of a ballsy thing to attempt and drum up support for. However, Revue Starlight is a franchise that is near and dear to my heart. I might even be able to say that it saved my life, and gave me the strength to keep on going. I want to continue sharing my love for it through a medium that, too, is precious to me.
Maybe meeting up with your friends and pulling up character sheets isn't quite the same as emerging in a theater in costume and acting before an audience. Nevertheless, it's a way that we all can play characters and step on a "stage" of our own, as Stage Girls of our own design.
So, as ever - it's on to the next stage! Maybe I should write a prewritten Rinmeikan or Frontier one-shot...?

OC + Revue
Ever heard of a Juliet who doesn't have a Romeo?
Been thinking abt the fact that most of the stories in starira has a play going on/referenced, so I wanted to get a play for my au as well, the result was: Romeo and Juliet.
Nick really likes romance stories, so Romeo and Juliet was one of her favorites. One of the promises she had made with Eliza was that she would be her Romeo once they stood on stage together, and Nick would be her Juliet.
But nowdays, there's just no way they can fulfill that promise together. At Rinmeikan, Eliza will be playing Romeo and Yara, her friend, is most likely to play Juliet.
Nick will play Juliet at Siegfeld and she can't accept anyone to play as her partner, making things difficult for everyone.
Tumblr media
She's a Juliet who yearns for a Romeo who can't even bear to look in her eyes, the fact that they're in different schools also helps, since Juliet and Romeo come from rival families thus turning their love forbidden. Nick can't have Eliza as her partner on the play, but that doesn't mean she'll stop wanting her promised Romeo.
Tumblr media
Inspirarion came from Mirishira's version of Romeo & Cinderella, the song matches what I'm going for.

Hi! I'm new to revue and wondering what's the order I should follow to watch everything related to the franchise? I've already watched the anime and want to get into the plays and manga, etc next :)
Noticed you have translated a lot of stuff, thank you so much!
hi there, welcome!
this is my personal recommendation based on how i did it:
anime
rondo (recap movie with extra scenes, can skip)
movie
overture manga (direct prequel to the anime)
(stage plays) the live #1, #2, blue glitter, online (short 30 min thing that happened bc #3 was postponed due to covid), #3
the live manga adaptations come after each respective play, blue glitter was the last one adapted and then saikai eyes is a spinoff of that about the teachers from the plays
4koma and the nine stories comic anthology are light and fun and can be read whenever
starira stuff (depending on your level of interest in starira you can start this earlier on bc it's a big thing to delve into and takes time, I started watching starira stories on youtube first thing after the anime, but you mentioned plays and manga here so I put it after those) (if nothing else the main story is worth it for sure, most of it is written by the anime's writer and the third arc called arcana arcadia is basically his pet project and kind of leads into the movie a bit!)
(stage plays) delight, regalia (and then currently unsubbed #4 and rebellion), good to have starira knowledge before watching if you're planning to have it at all
there's also concerts which you can watch whenever, I watched these around the same time as the first few plays, 2nd starlive is basically a live reenaction of the revues from the anime, and 3rd starlive is the one with starira characters and very iconic and fun. you don't need to know that much starira story to watch it, it kind of has its own story within the concert
readers theaters are a new thing that started last year, the first and second are subbed. I'd probably save these for last bc they're not too important but very fun to watch

i just wanna ramble about revue and jhs and remains don't mind me. literally speech to text-ing most of this so it's really not organized
I've been thinking a lot about the junior high in general and how (un)successful they are and the state of things in revue starlight. now obviously they do still have fans but ultimately it's because it's like a niche of a niche of an already niche thing... people get this way about any sort of new group or graduation situation in the anisong world but it's usually overcome by them having an anime that people watch and fall in love with and then time goes on and they're more cemented in the fandom. the junior high are frankly just never going to get an anime because it would put revue Starlight in debt and theyre flops bc of that because most of the people who are fans of Starlight are fans of it because of the characters who appeared in the anime and a stage play is "inaccessible" to those anime fans. even for #2 the reason why Seiran became so popular was because they were directly linked to kukugumi and for the junior high, they're linked to the edels but compared to kukugumi the edels didn't get as much content by the time the junior high came out, and then them being pushed so much when other starira characters didn't have as much content plus them not being related to kukugumi or having an anime is what caused this pushback against them.
I guess for me the thing is that with Starlight I'm not particularly biased towards any specific characters or very attached to the characters as characters themselves as I am to the way that they exist within the franchise and the stories that are being told with the same framework within Starlight. I for real just didn't have a favorite character until shiro ogami existed. and I'm one of those people who likes to dive into things that might seem less accessible to most people, and I'm not a huge anime watcher, like I literally didn't watch anime for about 7 years until I watched revue Starlight. and being a k-pop fan who went through several member changes and disbandments and reformations of groups I guess I'm just way way more desensitized to this kind of evolution. what matters to me is that the stories that writers want to tell through this work can continue to be told and the franchise can continue to exist in an active way and continue to fill that niche because if there was no revue Starlight, if it just faded away right now what would be in its place? there's really nothing else like it, you can get girls fighting, you can get Yuri, you can get stories about theater, but none of them would be able to take revue starlight's place (without accusations of being a literal starlight clone).
and it's passed for the most part now but when the junior high first came out it was really shocking to me how little people understood about the purpose of the starira characters and the fact that about half of them are voiced by voice actors who are strictly voice actors and not going to perform on stage. and I guess around the time that Junior High started getting implemented Starlight was trying to pivot towards being more event and Stage focused because that really is the future of the franchise because again they don't have enough money to make another anime and they're also never going to kill starira unless they have to and then the event in real life and things in starira feed into each other in kind of a loop and that is basically where we're at now. and you just have to accept that it's not a fault of the company if the actors can't fulfill a role that they don't want to fulfill like that's just their job and life comes at you and now mimorin is in Florida and I'm wishing the best for her and her child and I can't even bring myself to feel sad about it because that's her life! I'm in the middle of my quarter life crisis how can I complain about people living their lives the way they want to live them and the companies responsible for revue Starlight trying their best to keep the franchise alive?
all that is to say I really am so excited and happy and hopeful for what revue Starlight is becoming right now and the new avenues that the junior high are opening for the franchise because we finally have a group that can hold regular concerts and like crazy insane stage plays that have never been done before. don't get me wrong I really love the existing plays and the work that kodama Akiko and miura kaori do. but I've always felt like the way that the stage plays always have to wrap up in a very conclusive way by the end of the 1 hour and 30 minutes was slightly a detriment to the storytelling. but it works for the live since the stage plays were meant To be A supplement to other parts of the franchise and for kukugumi the main thing IS the anime. they don't need a whole other plot line happening in the place that is completely deviant to the other sections of the franchise. but that was kind of like an unspoken rule that the plays had to reach a happy ending by the end. so for the junior high who are getting there story told basically exclusively through the stage first (they have some starira stuff but it's mostly filler and then stage adaptations) to have every single stage end with a happy ending would get kind of repetitive and kind of boring eventually SO THIS IS AN AMAZING DEVELOPMENT AND AN AMAZING IDEA ON EZAKI'S PART AND I'M SO FREAKING HAPPY!!!!!!!!! AND I WISH MORE PEOPLE WOULD GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!!!!! I don't know to be honest I'm at this point in my life where I get super pissed off whenever I see kukugumi fans who don't care about the jhs like those are your cousins SHOW SOME RESPECT. anyway
I always have to think about revue starlight in terms of the writers because this isn't something that's created in a vacuum by some mysterious entity it's usually just one single person writing the whole story for a particular part of the franchise, and we know their names. I really like ezaki's writing I think part of it is because maybe it's a little bit similar to mine in the way that he gets really down in the details and doesn't really do a lot of things for like comedic value or shock value and it's a little bit methodical. and when you compare it to miura's it lacks a lot of flair for the stage part (i really wish we could get a writing directing collab w ezaki and kodama but that's a pipe dream). but he's really really good at writing tragic unhappy stories that can be twisted into a happy story and i think he likes doing that. and it's great and so fitting because we must remember that Starlight is a tragedy.
and he also has this habit of wanting to do everything at once which I also kind of understand. and that's the reason why Rebellion got so much Flack, they resolved the shiro plot like in the middle and then the rest of it was the wartime of farewells and people got really upset about that. but i can only go "well he wanted to do everything!!!" .. I think that's probably about half the reason that we cut off remains because he still wants to do salome we're still going to see Salome. in the next play. I know for sure he really actually wants to do salome we'll see how that goes because uhm.. but. imagine remains but we got ryoko back in the middle and then performed salome like Hahahahaha
what's my point. I think it's so exciting that we're getting new content in revue Starlight and not just new in terms of time but in terms of format in terms of writing in terms of staging in terms of characters we have real actual villains now who are actually going to be evil and remain evil for a full year how exciting is that??? I'm text-to-speeching this so you can't tell but I'm literally yelling at my phone right now.
another thing is that I think there's something so fun about having to wait and I think the strongest i felt this feeling up until now was when arcana arcadia was being released, there was just something so fun about having to wait for the next installment this is ALL BECAUSE I GREW UP READING HOMESTUCK FUCK ME. anyway you get to discuss in between updates and theorize and create your own ideas and your own stories and they might get overwritten by what the actual story is in the end and that's super fun you can only do that in that moment and for the play it's like the play itself is already a living thing this is like a phrase that maybe makes less sense in English but you know the whole idea of it's always moving and changing it's alive. and then when you get this time to wait for the next one and you have no idea what's going to happen in the next one and you can create all of these ideas and stories together as fans it kind of unites people and it makes the story feel even more alive because everything's in like a box the Schrodinger's box and it might change after that time has passed but in that time everything is up in the air and it's moving around. so I think it's so incredibly awesome that we have to wait for a year and I'm definitely not just saying this in order to convince myself that it's going to be okay that I have to wait for a year. for sure.
I think ezaki really and truly understands what makes revue starlight stage play fans tick. people want to see
girls fighting with weapons in a less male gaze-y way than some anime do..
girls being cool as fuck
toxic yuri
people being insane and GOING insane
tragedy that will eventually become some form of comedy (in the happy ending sense)
and remains is like. he went. okay. I'll put all of this in there. and that's why it's so crazy. i think it might be too much for some people yeah. but for the people who are already into the stageplays? It's PERFECT...
and finally this isn't really necessarily about remains but I've been thinking a lot about how Revue Starlight is one of those stories that can give me any sort of trope that I would maybe not like in another genre, and I will immediately eat it up like it's the most delicious thing in the world because I know that they're going to represent it in a way that doesn't destroy their character and they're going to make this character grow and resolve at least some of their issues to a certain extent and it's not just like some overdone thing just to make the character have a character you know? if you told me in 2020 that I would love characters that could technically be classified as yanderes and a plot that could technically be classified as NTR I would have looked at you like you had five heads. but here we are today and that is the truth.
I think that's all I have to say for now thank you for reading my podcast like and follow And subscribe

On stage I met myself.
I’ll be brief on my thoughts on Rebellion so as to avoid spoilers, but oooooooo it was so good!!
I think the most interesting part was getting to see the larger focus on the play within the play (within the play), and all that that entailed.
I thought this would be a bit less intense after Climax, and while it was, oh my god some of the moments hit sooooo hard aaaaaaa!!!
But yeah it was great and there’s so much I need to think about and I just love revue starlight so much.
Assorted thoughts time:
Okay the lighting in every single play has been absolutely spectacular and this is no different!! I’m having a hard time remembering all of them, but this might be one of the best!!!
Suzu Minase the person that you are oh my god. Suzu also gets credit (shared with Shiro) for the moment that got me closest to crying
The wartime of farewells was so cool, I haven’t kept up with Starira so I got to see it for the first time and hearing who in Seisho played who in the past was fun
I had heard that Shiro was Nana Daiba v2 in this, but oh my god welcome back Nana Daiba!!! I did not realize the extent….

trying to go through life thoughts
I wrote some thoughts on the l/n starira AU that i am putting here for posterity . mainly .
I don’t really know where to start or how to go into this. I made a comment to frog about how i thought that thematically l/n weren’t too far off, at least with some things. There’s the difference between revue’s focus on selfishness, but i think in a way you can see those as the difference between theatre and music (non-theatre) as art forms. Does that make sense? It’s an interesting part of a band, that the thematic idea of selfishness literally can only go so far—anyone can hope to be the lead in theatre, but a drumset player can’t hope to play the melody (you’re about to pitch your idea for a set of chromatically tuned toms. There’s nothing i can say to you that would stick in your brain).
So that was kind of my general vibe. I felt like there were enough similarities to justify the differences to make it make sense. I was only doing it as a writing exercise and it kind of spiraled. Ppl have talked about how it’s rly hard to revue something else because besides just fun aesthetics for art, it requires upward work to try and justify the occurrences in the AU to make it actually work. So i thought, maybe, it’d be fun to try and work through those thoughts a bit and see what I could come up with.
The most major change of note is that Shiho’s parents work in theatre in some way—it’s super vague and I didn’t want to come up with any concrete answers just because it felt pointless to. One of her parents might be a rinmeikan graduate or a family member was a teacher there or something, hence how they ended up with an old Rinmeiki vhs, and a result of her parents being in theatre means her desire to be a professional musician is switched to a desire to be a professional actor. A lot of what ripples out from there in terms of their childhood is pretty self explanatory: they watch Rinmeiki, put on little plays together just the four of them, and then things fall apart as they grow older.
I wanted to get them relatively close to pjsk canon at the start moreso than starira’s, so the perf department is already closed while they’re in their first year. I think in the context of this story they had more members at the start of the year, but people (upperclassmen) dropped into general education just because they knew the department was going to close down, until it was just Shiho and Ichika. Upperclassmen are only 2nd years, bc the part of my brain that cares too much ab logistics thinks the school would let any third years graduate in their department before shutting it at the end of the year but ANYWAY.
Kanade and Shizuku showing up is just because i needed two people connected to two of our people. I don’t know what school kanade/25ji go to. MMJ are frontier they’re. Idols. I have no idea who frau platin is. Actual answer probably Iori. But instead. Haruhi Minamoto. Fuck you.
There’s a lot about what I did with honami that ends up feeling like favorite character favoritism. And it IS. But it was also tied to the fact she did brass band in middle school, so she’s converted to being the most theatre oriented behind Shiho. Rather than Honami being ostracized for what she is in canon, it’s for acting, which was mainly because i needed a reason for her to quit acting specifically. Centering acting does shift the fact that for both honami and shiho acting becomes the center of their straining relationship with ichika/each other, rather than their interpersonal problems. But revue generally ties personal problems and the stage up together, so i think it’s not an unfair thing to change, and it’s not so much a change for Shiho, anyway.
Also honami’s weapon IS NOT A SCYTHE. It is just a lance. They have pretty boring revue weapons. The scythe joke is ABOUT HER NAME ONLY. IT IS UNFORTUNATE, BUT MERELY COINCIDENCE. WE SHOULD KILL KOCHO SHIZUHA.
The. Story is meant to conceptually cover what would be the school story (partially)+opening arc… a hypothetical main story (which you will never see from me because SCOPE) would large scale consist of them trying to form an official association and performance festival, etc etc etc, alongside their individual character arcs.
As far as the characters, shiho’s follow up would cover um. Obviously. Saki and Ichika have both taken Shiho helping/joining the association to mean that she’s not planning on transferring but that is still very much on the table for her. Only Honami is aware that the . Fights within their group aren’t over yet which is meant to compound with a certain lack of confrontation.
Honami’s would center around that whole revue weapon business, and the sense of regaining her brilliance. There are certain elements that tie into pjsk canon in terms of her (re)finding the confidence to speak her mind and put her foot down more, slowly. I think also as a secondary thing she gets into directing, over time.
Saki’s the most vague in my mind. I think she’s got passion and conviction but a sort of lack of direction, even though those two usually lead to the third. It’s the least developed in my brain so far. There’s also maybe something about her illness, both in terms of recognizing her own limits and acknowledging them, but also in not sidelining herself from going for lead roles, or something.
Ichika sort of lacks a lot as a stage girl initially. In her idea that she has parts of the rest of the group in herself i thought about including some implication that she doesn’t know what she would pass on to the three of them in return, but i couldn’t fit a line in about it without drawing a lot of attention to it, and it would fly under the radar after that revue and not come up again for a while. She’s also still carrying baggage for assuming the fault of the department shutting down.
Point is, when saki and ichika agree about not fighting each other and only facing other schools from now on, they are entirely off base. Things aren’t really fully aligned.
Okay. Now for my least favorite part. I thought revue intros would be fun and now i have to talk about them a little bit briefly. All of them contain an element of their name, alongside. Okay.
Saki’s is a mess well okay that’s not fair they’re all a mess to me . The “Bright skies” in the opening references the her last name, and the reference to blossoms her first name. Hers also overtly. References Rinmeiki.
Shiho’s isn’t tied to rinmeiki at all and the name references are the most vague, but her is very. Situationally accurate and i think remains so. She does the hard carrying for the revue conversion and i think up until the transferring confrontation comes to a head she’s often sort of . Antagonistic in trying to push the rest to either rise to the challenge or give up. “Brilliance pierces through the artificial shades” is the reference to her name. Brilliance standing in for sun and um. Sun piercing through the treetops. Also the final line the use of the word rises.
Ichika’s guided by the light of stars is her name reference, alongside the “melody of our song” thing. Rinmeiki are referenced as well, “against the flow of history” and the thing about her being a hero.
Honami’s is so heavy handed it hurts me and that’s what she gets for being last. She references all four of their names, and doesn’t have a specific Rinmeiki reference.
They also all specifically reference themselves differently. Ichika and Saki as students of rinmeikan, shiho as merely a stage girl, and honami as part of the performance association (which technically doesn’t exist officially when she says that).
I think…that’s kind of everything I’ve got…at least for now. That’s the bulk of it, really, i think. I hope. I don’t know :)

1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 for the revstar ask <3333333333
kissing u kissing u kissing u kissing you kissing you k /p
1. what character do you relate to most / least?
most relatable: mahiru & junna & tamao (most accurate to my overall personality), koharu & maya (perfectionist & crushed by expectations bracket)
least relatable (doesn't mean i don't like them): kaoruko, mei fan, ichie, suzu, hikari
2. what is your favorite quote from any part of revue starlight (anime, game, stageplays, movie, 4koma, credit card, etc.)?
i answered this before but here is another one, this time from arcana arcadia:
"This world is a stage. Even the king is a player. Our lives could very well just be another play written by someone. How our lives will end has already been decided. Nothing unexpected ever happens."
4. what is your favorite revue starlight-related headcanon?
i'm not really a headcanon guy, i just perceive characters and understand them. but i do have the headcanon that mahiru saw revolutionary girl utena as a child and it changed her brain chemistry
5. what is your favorite revue song?
HOH-
anime: starlight (the most violins you will ever hear in your life)
movie: we are already on the stage
starira: eternity is dying and living
character song: koi wa taiyou circus
stage play: saikai aizu (even if you don't care abt revstar and you're just seeing this on your dash in passing you NEED to watch this. im serious. in this scene the 9 main characters are fighting their dark sides so that means they had do choreograph the stage fight of 18 actresses at once and holy fuck watch how they can sing while doing all that dancing and fighting at the same time. im serious the revstar stageplays are insane)
youtube
i just realized this might mean revue as in the songs that play DURING revues but idc you get all of this.
7. what is one thing you wish could have been handled differently storywise?
i talked a lot about this in previous answers so i'll just say that i wish seiran was more involved with the big events in starira recently. i know they are stageplay characters first and everything else second but they are so dear to me and the only way to learn more about them is basically watching the stage plays and it saddens me bc not many people do that
11. what character or scene would you want to see animated?
the entirety of arcana arcadia
no but i'm serious. arcana arcadia (the play). like just the play itself. it would be so so so so so cool... act 6 especially...
12. what character(s) do you wish you knew more about/had a better read on?
Frontier :( but also i need to catch up with siegfeld junior high but in my defense a lot of what is standing in my way is the language barrier
13. how did you get into revue starlight? how long did it take you to get into the game after watching revue starlight (if you did)?
answered!
14. if you had to pitch revue starlight to someone, how would you do it?
answered but let's try a less vague one:
i think you could recommend revstar to anyone who likes magical girl shows and idol anime, since it has some things in common with both while being its own unique, never-done-before thing and that's what makes it so thrilling to experience. revstar's director, tomohiro furukawa has worked under kunihiko ikuhara (director of revolutionary girl utena) on titles such as yuri kuma arashi and mawaru penguindrum and you can definitely see the effects of that, but at the same time, toppy-san's surrealism has its own flavor that is distinct of ikuni's.
revstar loves taking character archetypes and dynamics you are used to seeing in other anime and then it kicks them around for fun. the main pair seems like a common sun/moon dynamic but the more you learn about them the more you realize that could not be further from the truth. it's so so fun to dig deeper into all those characters by rewatching the anime and seeing all the details you missed the first time around, understanding character motivations you didn't. all the insert songs in the anime are incredibly well-composed with a lot of love behind them (case and point - revue starlight unlimited movie music budget), and they expand on the character singing it flawlessly.
the tv anime was on a really tight budget to the point that for the few last episodes they literally had to hire people from overseas to help them finish it but the end result is truly a labor of love that comforts me every time i watch it. it also wouldn't be an overexagerration to say it fundamentally changed my life. it's just good. oh and its also yuri. okay i'm done rambling
15. what do you like about revue starlight?
basically everything i just rambled about sdsgdsgh but uhh yeah. EVERYTHING. the story, the messages, the music, the animation of the stage fights, the characters, the visuals and symbolism, how much it contributed to my overall knowledge about theater and theater history, how it made me interested in other "classics" (totally did not watch rose of versailles after starira did the collab), how it made me appreciate my own creative expressions, how it made me appreciate hard work and effort and striving for more, but also how it comforts me when i fall and tells me to stand back up. i love how varied the franchise is with its anime, manga (which i'm still yet to read *sweats*), video game, stage plays, reader's theaters and so on. there is clearly so much love poured into it from both the creators and the actresses themselves and it just makes me glow every time i engage with anything revstar-related.
except relive gameplay <3 i hope i can get myself to uninstall soon. but the story IS amazing and should be experienced by everyone and you can do that without actually downloading relive onto your mobile devices!!! yay!!!

hiiiii hi hi haiii guys!!! ^_^ I don't rlly know much about these revstar girlies (the anime is on my to watch list! i just have to wait for the stars to align in my brain to. let me watch it 🥲) but i wanted to send in a request so!!!! how bout y'all make something self indulgent!! And to wanna make it interesting..... maybe you can make something for a kin/comf that isn't too popular by. fandom standards? or is just underappreciated in general?? if that makes sense?? okay thats allll have a nice day guys have fun bye byeeeee :33
-Cherry @/sunbedo 🍒💕
Tumblr media
CHERRY!!! here's hers and here's mine!! @sunbedo
Hiii hi hi hiiiiiii!! omg don't worry, this was incredibly fun to do and it had us both thinking about the popularity of certain characters and who we'd like to see more content of, so we appreciate you sending this in! also I'm sorry for the wait to post this ask, it got completely lost in the drafts for a while and I wanted to ramble a bit under a cut ajsdakhd oh and let me know if you want to be 🍒anon at any point! ily and thanks again!! have a good night cherry 🥺
I only put this under a read more so I don't ramble too much but omg if you get into revstar let us know!!! it's still raging strong as a special interest and hyperfixation and we'd both love to talk abt it with you!! and please take your time there's never any rush to get into it! might i add that i love the usage of "if the stars align" here because if that ain't the most befitting for this source that you could've said... kjDSHASD <- revstar is very "star" themed, literally and figuratively! but hmm. if I had to kin assign you anybody especially from the anime I'd say probably Futaba and/or Karen!!! It's a little harder to say from Starira but I just KNOW you'd love Frontier and their found family tropes. Aruru? Misora? who knows but I also think you'd enjoy the Siegfeld Juniors a lot, especially Minku and Kuina for some reason. But yeah! the anime only focuses on the Seisho cast so that'd be your first introduction if you started with the anime and basically like the only introduction unless you looked into the mobile game or stage plays! which we can always help you with because we both have the resources. the cast is fairly small (if you don't count side characters and background characters which in of itself is few and far between) totaling about 40ish or so, roughly. so it's both easy and difficult to find "obscure" or underrated characters that don't get attention in the fandom because they're all loved by *someone* but there are characters that aren't as popular by default at the same time (like Frontier, Seiran, some Siegfeld, etc.) so that's why I went with Shiori Yumeoji for a kin, and Sun went with Tsukasa Ebisu for a kin as well! If we went with ccs, I would've chosen Misora or Stella, and I think it's funny because we got a few rqs for them recently since we've done this rq so it really worked out that way! Sun said she probably would have done Shiori as a cc if love didn't chose a kin too which worked out since I ended up doing that for myself. um anywaysss yeah! omg! I hope you enjoy it whenever you have the motivation and do not hesitate to talk to us about it or send in anything else for us to do in the meantime! this was very good for the soul

starira having a second bangdream collab is kinda random but not super surprising given how much bushiroad likes to cross promote, but having it specifically be with raise a suilen is like. huh. (ras in general is like huh considering it’s a band made of actresses with stage names playing characters with their own stage names and they don’t just do music for their parent franchise, they also have done completely unrelated anime op/eds??? wack)

Hiii I love all of this and MMJ at Siegfeld would be my favourite thing ever actually. would Akira hate Minori. would she. I feel like despite watching all the stage plays and reading starira I still don’t get Akira’s character. love her though
MMJ at Rinmekan would also be fun for the Rui X Tamao and Minori x Haruka situation lol. they’re exactly the same dynamic
I kinda need Emu and Aruru to interact. I need them.
mannnn I wish I knew the mobile game girls better. I’ve read all the main stories and school-focus story but I still feel like I only know them at a surface level aghhh
SORRY I SAW YOURTAG ON THE EMU YOURE WRITING WHAT. HI. HI
HIIIIIII UM. I’m just gonna use this to info dump about my revstar x proseka AU
So this is like. In order for WxS to be better at performing or whatever they decide to visit Seisho Music Academy! And learn from the revstar girlies!
The day goes by normally and they all bond, but then as they’re about to leave. wuh woh.
They fall into the elevator or something. Idk I haven’t decided that yet but somehow they get sent down to the fucking pit of gay fighting and singing
um. And it’s not the giraffe running the auditions this time. It’s a Miku!!! A Miku born from the feelings of all the girls who have failed in the revues over the years. haha.
She’s very mean and wants to see bloodshed!!! good for her but not good for the girlies.
Four of the Revstar girls are in the pit as well and Miku tells WxS that if they don’t fight and win in the revues against Seisho, their SEKAI will be locked off forever. That’s when WxS realize “oh shit we actually can’t access SEKAI anymore.”
And it’s not just WxS, all of the groups have lost access to their SEKAI. So as the story goes on they’re all dragged into the fighting to get their SEKAI back.
The Revstar girls are fighting to save Starlight or something again idk
So that’s the basic premise! I think there’d be a lot of fun interactions between the characters, I’m kinda obsessed with the idea of Rui and Nana interacting. Also Emu and Nana. I think I’m just obsessed with Nana.
You can also make a lot of VA and name jokes lol, Junna and Mizuki have the same VA, Tamao and Kanade have the same VA, there’s two Ruis and two Tsukasas, and I’m just going ahead and headcanoning Michiru Otori and Emu Otori as cousins lol. They’re both tiny with big weapons and are pretty rich
I really only have little snippets actually written rn, but I’d like to continue more of it! I’ve also been playing around with the idea of a visual novel for this? Anyways
That’s all :3

btw no one told me the stage plays were like. actually good? part of the reason i haven't watched them was that i didn't really know where to watch, but also i wasn't super interested in the first one for example bc i didn't know it was actually worth watching? just watched revival and i loved it actually! i enjoyed the differences in the tone and plot and some of the characterization, and somehow it all made starira make a lot more sense to me. idk it was all just nice, might become my comfort stage play or something.
also i watched some of edel delight (without the subs though) and somehow i immediately started caring more about.. seekfelt. siegfried? siegfelt. feld. idk. them. reading the stories in starira i always had this weird feeling that i should be invested in their whole deal but i just... wasn't. i guess they felt too two dimensional (pun intended), because now that i've seen the characters exist on stage they feel a lot more alive in general. so i'm looking forward to watching the whole thing with subtitles in the future.

Nomoto Hotaru interview for -The LIVE Edel- Delight in Monthly Bushiroad March 2022 (Eng)
In commemoration of the Starira stage play! A special interview with Nomoto Hotaru who plays Yukishiro Akira
From here on, we will present an interview with Nomoto Hotaru that was recorded just before the play’s performances began. Active in Starira and on stage as the leader of the “Edels”, Nomoto-san spoke all about Siegfeld.
What Nomoto Hotaru thinks is Siegfeld’s charm
——First, please tell us what you think Siegfeld Institute of Music’s charm is.
Nomoto: I would say it’s the merit-based system and hands-off policy. My first impression was that it’s a very strict school with strict rules, but as I learned more and more about Siegfeld as a school, I came to understand that it’s actually a school with a lot of freedom. On top of its foundational value of excellence, there is no good or evil, and instead everyone’s individuality is respected. I think that’s its charm.
——Is your current impression of Yukishiro Akira any different from your first impression of her?
Nomoto: At first, she seemed too perfect, and I felt very distant from her. Because she’s a genius stage girl, and says things like “I will make no compromise” at every chance she gets, for example. But recently I’ve come to think, “This girl is lacking in some pretty incredible areas, huh…?”. When it comes to things unrelated to the stage, she’s a rather normal (?) girl. Once I came to know that side of her, I thought she was really cute, and now she's an endearing existence to me.
Tumblr media
⬆ Akira may appear perfect at first glance, but in a 1-panel comic in “Starira”, her unexpected weakness comes to light…
——What are your impressions of the four other “Edels”? Please tell us about both the characters and the actresses.
Nomoto: First is Otori Michiru. She truly is Akira’s right hand. No, maybe both hands? I think she’s the only one who will genuinely get angry at Akira. She’s the scariest when she gets angry, but really, she may be the most loving stage girl. Ozaki Yuka-san, who plays that sort of Michiru, is a cute and cool person. She has her own well-defined style and is someone who will take on a challenge for anything. She’s for sure the number one “good woman” in Siegfeld, I think.
Liu Mei Fan rushes headlong into things and is high-spirited. The way she doesn't care how she appears to others when she aims for a goal and her straight and honest gaze are very dazzling to me. Takeuchi Yume-san, who plays Mei Fan, is actually the member that I’ve known for the longest. When we see each other, we’re always just joking around and out of breath because we’re playing around too much. I’d like her to have mercy on me for once (laughs). That’s what Yume’s like, but I really love her singing voice.
Tsuruhime Yachiyo is a noble cat-like girl! She’s a girl who easily slips off and runs away when you try to get down to her core. I think she might be the most like a high school girl out of the “Edels”. I respect a lot of things about her actress, Kudo Haruka-san, such as her approach to her work. On “Edel Radio”, which the two of us host, I’m always relying on her, so I promised, "On the stage, I’ll try my best to lead you"!
And then Yumeoji Shiori. She’s a girl who can truly be called the “nation’s little sister”. She has everything that I don’t have, and I’m grateful simply for the fact that she exists. She’s that sort of a stage girl. Tono Hikaru-san, who plays Shiori, is an incredible hard worker. How should I put it, it feels like she enjoys the effort itself, I think. I feel like she’s similar to Shiori in that way. She’s a person who naturally increases my motivation when I’m with her.
Seiran Stage Play Memories
After all, Seiran is amazing!
——In the Seiran stage play, you appeared alone on Siegfeld’s behalf. Which scene left the deepest impression on you in that play?
Nomoto: For a scene that I was in, it has to be the revue scene that unfolded at the end. All I can remember is that it was fun, so much fun that I couldn’t do anything but have fun.
Tumblr media
⬆ In the Seiran stage play, she became Hisame's rival in particular, and they faced off in the "Revue of Reigning".
The three stage girls who appeared for the first time were also very impressive. I love the song where Yanagi Sakura-chan reveals the secrets of her sister Yanagi Koharu-chan. Matsue Miko-chan’s song was also wonderful, and Hanare Yatsuki-chan’s dance had me giving a standing ovation internally every time. I’d like to meet those three people again one day.
——Were there any memorable events during the rehearsals or performances?
Nomoto: Shiina Hekiru, who plays Souda Sawa, was very kind to me. My arm gets very tired after swinging my revue weapon, a lance, so I was caring for it by icing it, but Hekiru-san came next to me and said, “Your arm will get tired, so I’ll hold it for you”, and she iced my arm for me! It was a kindness that blew away the tiredness of my arms...
——Please tell us your impressions of the three Seiran stage girls and Yakumo-sensei.
Nomoto: Yanagi Koharu is a person who quietly and certainly moves forward step by step. Minase Suzu is a bright and straightforward person who is overflowing with energy to live. Honami Hisame is a person who loves and is loved by others, and who can shine by herself even as she supports others. And Yakumo Kyoko is an ideal teacher that everyone aspires to, a superstar. I feel like their actresses are also pretty close to their respective characters. Their quality and charm as people are on a cosmic scale, I think.
——On this next stage, the five “Edels” will finally assemble on the stage. How are you feeling right now?
Nomoto: Happy. I’ve always, constantly been saying, “I want to stand on stage as five someday.” I’m truly thankful to have received this chance to do that!
In the past, the five “Edels” served as the opening act for Starlight Kukugumi’s 2nd StarLive “Starry Desert”. This is the first performance with all five of us since then. Just what will happen... I’m really excited for it right now!
——For the performances and rehearsals, what are you looking forward to?
Nomoto: I wonder... being able to see the stage girls exhausted to the max, maybe. More than anything, I’m looking forward to sharing with everyone what we can only taste once we’ve gone through despair. ...I may be the only one thinking about it from the angle of despair, though (lol).
But, I’m sure that all of the performers will create a brilliant stage in their own way! Please anticipate it!
Starting off 2022 with the stage!  Concentrating only on the performances right in front of her!!
——To Nomoto-san, what was 2021 like for you?
Nomoto: I was born in the year of the ox, so last year I was a woman of the year (born in a year with the same Chinese zodiac sign). So, it was a “cow fever” kind of year. I wonder what cow fever is. I don’t know either (lol).
By the way… A cow’s butt is not round. It’s super super bony, and it’s actually a square. Did you guys know this?
——I didn’t know about the cow’s behind (lol). Then, please tell us your plans for 2022.
Nomoto: Just to make February’s Starira stage play a success! As for what comes after that, I’ll think about it when it’s over. Ah, but I want to be able to wake up in a good mood every morning. On clear days, “Good morning blue sky!”, on rainy days, “Good morning blessed rain!”, that kind of feeling.
——Lastly, a message to all of the readers!
Nomoto: Thank you for reading this to the end! The charm of Starlight that everyone in Kukugumi has built up, this time we, Siegfeld, will deliver it to you. Just how will we accomplish that? We will strengthen our resolve and try our hardest. The “Starira” play will be performed starting from February 18th. Please come have some fun at The Galaxy Theater. Thank you so much!
