salmonberry season
Tumblr media
Spring is winding to its end in Remoria Farm—Ambrose likes the tartness of salmonberries, and Milene likes him.
original characters, Milene & Ambrose (!!!) ; farmer/farmhand
Tumblr media
Ambrose thrives in the valley.
Milene knows because she watches, always watches him. She knows that he hums to the beat of cheesy love songs while watering parsnip seedlings. That he likes to lie in the chicken coop and cuddle the hens in his arms when he thinks she isn’t looking. The townspeople that laugh brightly when talking to him—they like him, it’s obvious by the way his arms are never empty from a trip to the town, there’s always another pot of soup or a jar of pasta sauce.
Most of all, though he can’t recognize it himself, Milene sees the bright spark in his eyes.
She remembers what they looked like before they moved to the valley, dull and unfocused and so far away. His office job in Joja made him slowly waste away. Now, the green in his eyes shine whenever he wrangles a particularly fussy fish, or when the two of them stand side by side in the kitchen, following televised recipes that leave the house smelling deliciously of caramelized onion and garlic.
Even now, when they sit under a thick branched tree away from the hot midday sun, Ambrose keeps the twinkle in his gaze. Sticking side by side, they share a handful of spring salmonberries—handpicked by Ambrose himself. The berry is sweet and tart, sticky and viscous all over her fingers and lips. She wipes the red stained juice smeared on her fingertips off on the hem of her shorts.
Absentmindedly, Milene reaches to pluck another pea-sized berry from him, but he twists his body away, hiding the salmonberries with a faux frown. She stretches her arm farther, reaching for the berries, resting her other palm on the grassy bed below. She shoots him a puzzled look.
“You had your share,” he says. Milene raises a brow. “The rest are mine.”
Huffing, Milene reaches again, her arm bumping his shoulder. Ambrose, this time, fully turns his back to her and protectively cradling berries to his chest, making the reach unsuccessful. She scoffs at his childishness and pokes him in the side.
“Selfish.”
Ambrose wiggles his eyebrows, aiming a smug smirk at her. “And you’re a leech,” he replies just as fast. “If you joined me in picking berries we’d have more, but you didn’t. You get what you get.”
“Excuse me,” she forcibly rests her weight against his back. Ambrose breathes on a wheeze as she leans over him. “I’d assume you’d be able to do something as simple as that on your own.”
Milene can hear the smile in his voice. “Picking berries is not simple.”
“Putting up with a brat like you isn’t simple either,” she replies dryly, pinching at his ear. “What did I do to deserve this? You’re breaking my heart here, I’ll have to go back to my dingy apartment in Zuzu city to save some face.”
Ambrose stiffens, his back ram-rod straight, his lips pressed into a line when he looks back at her. Milene sits back, the sudden change in atmosphere making her heart rate spike—did she say something wrong?
Milene rests a steadying hand on her chest. Damn this man for making her emotions run all over the place.
His hand flexes and rubs absentmindedly at the denim of his overalls. A nervous tell of his, for what reason he is buzzing with nerves she can’t tell.
“—Ambrose,” she can hear the high pitchy quality in her voice, she cringes inwardly. “You eat a rotten berry or something? What’s up?”
Small steady streams of light filtered through the branches shine on them, Ambrose turns his head back and looks her directly in the eyes.
“Don’t say that,” he says under his breath, Ambrose speaks it like a secret along with a long suffering sigh. Like he’s been hiding the sentiment for a while. “Don’t say that you’ll leave.”
Oh.
Immediately, Milene feels the giddy swing of her stomach, the knotting and unknotting of her gut as giggles slip past her berry-stained lips. Ambrose fixes her with a weak glare, more of a pout if anything.
His posture is significantly more relaxed when he goes to chastise her. “Dude, not funny—”
Milene takes the opportunity to pluck a salmonberry from his hand while his attention is taken away. “Very funny. Hilarious even.”
His frown deepens as she pops the berry in her mouth, but she knows better. The twinkle in his eyes are bright, overwhelmingly so. The sight makes her heart swell and threaten to burst out of her chest. It’s honestly kinda terrifying.
“There’s nothing for me in the city,” she murmurs, pressing her thumb and pointer together, they stick together with berry juice. “I won’t leave, ever.”
Ambrose snorts, bringing two berries into his mouth, his lips stained red along with it. “What if there’s a drought and we lose all our money?”
“Hell no,” Milene entertains his inane imagination. “You wouldn’t survive without me. You’d die of loneliness, or starvation.”
“Gee Milene, you really know how to cheer a guy up.” he deadpans.
“Not trying to cheer you up,” she smirks. “It’s just the plain simple truth.”
He narrows his eyes. “Okay, but what if—”
“No,” she interrupts, waving her hand. Milene tucks her feet closer underneath her, staving off the brunt of the summer heat.
She rests her hand by his side, studying his face intently. The curve of his nose, the slope of his cheeks and the cut of his cheekbones, his eyes—his eyes that glitter and shine like emeralds.
Milene thinks that she can stare into them forever.
“Besides,” she shrugs, “I like to watch you. You’re happy, I’m happy too.”

There was a screenshot of a letter Ingo sends the player with Emmet's spouse patio in the back, what inspired it to akin to a tea party table? Ingo's being the berry garden makes sense (2 heart event), do we have a tea party with Emmet at some point?
Emmet's spouse patio was tricky for us to figure out since... Emmet is miserable most of the time! He wouldn't really like how dirty it is outside on the farm, either...
Though he did have a pleasant time outdoors once! That was when he was serving as a Butler-Subway-Boss extraordinaire! The table (and Joltik cart) was sprited based on their shared butler costume sync pair mindscape visual (but with more blues and greens in reference to his EX colors, red is more of Ingo's color). They each take one aspect from it: Ingo with the berry plants and Emmet with the tea party table.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for a proper tea party... Emmet will have one for his 14 heart event! He'll present a scrapbook of him and the player together there. We aren't anywhere near done with his 8 and 10 heart events, so we don't have a script for that or anything yet. That aside, I plan to reference/add onto what he learned from Piers in pokemas' tea party event for that event! Emmet has workaholic tendencies and doesn't trust that he isn't just what he can offer. He's written to struggle comprehending/believing in relationships that aren't transactional, so his main theme is making him understand that expressing how he's "artistic" *cough* autistic is enough to win someone's love. He's getting better mentally but still struggles with his various issues. He needs constant affirmation. Becuase is Emmet. What he does. What he says. Always the same.
Until then! I still need to figure out his 8 and 10 heart events. Though I do have a lot of thoughts regarding his 14 heart event, I wouldn't want to jump straight to it since I want to try having the events build off of each other better. (The 2 and 6 heart events flow better since they were made one after the other, Emmet's 4 and 5 heart events were tricky to write afterwards... I'd like to minimize working backwards from now on!)
The 10 heart event is still in the planning phase, but you do get to have a nice meal with Emmet before the actual tea party/14 heart event! Here's a snippet from my (verrrry rough) event planning draft for it when I was jotting down ideas way too early.
Tumblr media
I don't have anything to show off for the 8 heart event regarding this subject but there's a snack break somewhere there too... I guess....

Okay Stardew Valley peeps hear me out.
I know a lot of us like to use the farmhand cabins for extra storage. And with the introduction of 8 person multiplayer that means you can now put 7!!! farmhand cabins on your farm.
But I’m still going somewhere with this.
So they added some new cabin designs so that everyone doesn’t have to have the same look if they don’t want it.
And this
Tumblr media
Is one of the new “cabin” designs.
So what I’m saying is we should plot out a corner of our farms with 7 of these and decorate it like a trailer park.

Stardew Valley x SVSSS AU where Shen Yuan inherits a farm from a relative and decides that maybe the country air would help his poor health. While there he hires a farmhand to help him named Binghe, who looks eerily similar to the Binghe of the terrible webnovel he read before coming there. In truth, it's actually a transmigrated Bingge hiding his identity so he could have his own nice shizun! But what's this? The local sheriff, Liu Qingge, isn't a big fan of Bingge and has been suspicious of him for months.
Is Shen Jiu the local lawyer that everyone hates because You Can't Trust Lawyers Period but everyone will still go to him if they have any sort of legal help (even if it's just neighborly disputes over where the fence goes on the boundary lines and doesn't exactly warrant a lawyer to step in). Then they complain about Shen Jiu's rates ("ripping off people! He doesn't do any real work around here.") and cast disdain upon his city-style fashion and mannerism.
Yet somehow everyone still likes Mayor Yue Qingyuan who graduated in a fancy city ("wow, I hope my son will be as smart as you, mister mayor!").
Shen Yuan consults lawyer Shen Jiu on a couple matters about labor contracts and tax law. His first taste of the townsfolk is an... interesting one.

you saying you’d write an au for stardew is the equivalent of getting a rabbits foot and multiple prismatic shards in one day omg. even if u don’t do it the idea popping in ur head is already fantastic! i’m so happy you love the game i think it’s the perfect distraction for life !!! if only we could all just pack our things and move to our inherited farms and become the richest in town… it’s nepotism at work lol
please tae, i literally daydream about someone giving me a deed to a farm or a plot of land somewhere. 😭 and the thing is!!! like!!! farming’s not an easy job, it’s so dependant on the earth/weather, and even before climate change was a tangible threat it was a hard, hard living. 🥺 i get stressed out with my video game, lmao, 10pm and im still out in the fields hoeing or planting seeds, like. 💀 imagining doing that for like, 40+ plus to make a living……. you’d have to have a good team around you. 😩 farmhands, or family. a good spouse LOL. even a little hobby farm would be stressful………. and yet i still want that life. 😔 an orchard by the sea. 🥹 still stressful, but maybe slightly more manageable lmao.
i am trying so, so hard not to give into the temptation (not yet) to fulfil this wish via a fic LMAO. 🥹🙏🏽 i’m trying to feed it by doing like, small things: naming it (from the valley), making a playlist for it. god, i’ve gotten to the stage where i actively pause the game to write down little notes (things in our backpack: pink cake. a orange poppy flower. goat’s cheese. four cups of banana pudding. a totem with a weathered, deeply carved face. the pock-marked head of a mushroom). i am fighting for my life!!! the only thing that’s actually, properly stopping me from the follow through is that i don’t have a romantic end-game in mind. because in my head i’ve already given Reader three potential boyfies: izuku, katsuki, and maybe shouto (maybe shinsou instead). like, i can picture how friendships/relationships would form among them (izuku the kind, helpful guy. katsuki in the background, wary. shouto the son of the man who founded the company we worked for, back in the city; our work husband, who we joked to about following us out to the valley and who does). the one thing i’d want to do is have Reader find their way to Skull Caverns, and realise that all the magic they thought was whispering to just them has been whispering to other people, too—Izuku, sword in hand, staring at us in horror when he finds us cradling a large, spotted egg. Katsuki, rounding the corner after him, swearing black and blue about ghosts—sdhjfgklsdjflsfgkjsflkgj. i wanna write it so badly, just to get to that moment, LMAO. the mutual horror when all three of you are face-to-face in this giant, deadly, underground maze. the boys making you swear to secrecy; Izuku tearing into you for being so stupid, how did you even find this place, how did you know, do you understand what could’ve happened? you should’ve told them, you should’ve told him. your relief in finally having someone to talk to about all the weird shit you keep stumbling across. the way this would give Izuku an excuse to drop in to you, on the farm. Katsuki turning up to help with the tilling or seasonal planting, the harvest. i want to write about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! being on the dock in the middle of winter as the snow is falling, all those festive, jewel-like boats bobbing gently before you, waiting with their… winter star trees, or their paintings. the sea salt and the charred warmth of coffee beans. the mermaid show with all it’s tawdry secrecy…… the worn carpet under your feet, the mismatched planks that hold steady despite the creaking. i just think!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it would be neat to do. 🥹 i just!! it’s such a good world to play in LMAO. and if i could come up with a ending for it—a true, stops-me-in-my-tracks kind of ending—not even my attempts at nail-digging self-discipline would stop me from writing it.
for now tho it’s just my yapping, lmao. my yapping and my threats. 🥹

In the stardew valley au, Anakin gets his eyebrow scar probably doing something very dangerous that he should not be trying to do alone but he is because he is stupid, even when one of the farm hands is right there to help him, and the situation with Obi-Wan is a sharp contrast with his first visit to the clinic (much more obi-wan and less harvey)
For one, Anakin doesn't go to the clinic, Obi-Wan comes to him. The farmhand that heard him scream and saw him holding his face while blood ran through his fingers and down his face, immediately ran to the phone and called Obi-Wan.
When Obi-Wan storms into the farmhouse where Anakin has been moved to, still bleeding but now holding a cloth to his face, he is not the soft spoken, kind and worried that hospitals made Anakin nervous doctor that he had met. Obi-Wan, who had speed a bit too much there, and who one farmhand had quickly filled in in what had happened in the short distance from the car to the door, doesn't even greet anyone as he comes in. He goes straight to "What were you even thinking? Do you even understand the concept of protection gear?" and then, when he is finally next to Anakin, he leaves his case on the table next to Anakin, opens it and turns to him, "move your hand so I can at least see if you have made yourself blind"
The moment Anakin moves his hand, Obi-Wan notices how much it is shaking, and dismisses everyone else from the room. He takes out the gauzes and cleans Anakin's face from the blood. Takes a good look at the wound and assures Anakin "don't worry, your eye seems to be completely alright" with a kind voice, but he adds "this time" because he is still upset about Anakin's stupidity. He gives Anakin stitches, because the wound is deep enough for them, and when he tells Anakin that it will leave a scar, he uses his thumb to caress Anakin's cheek when the boy winces, and assures him that he will still look good with it.
All of the farmhands leave the farm for the day before the Doctor is finished with Anakin.

Who Is Most Likely To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse: Stardew Bachelors
From least likely to most likely:
6. Elliot- Has no survival skills whatsoever. Probably needs to be carried by Leah or Willy but once they're gone he's not far behind.
5. Harvey- He tries his best with Maru to find a cure. Probably dies trying to test it out. Lasts pretty long though.
4. Sam- He bunker's in Seb's basement with the rest of the SAS Gang. Fiercely protective of them. He'll survive pretty long, but he might get distracted if he sees his mom or Vincent's zombie and let his guard down.
3. Sebastian- Lasts really long. Very quickly finds out the zombies weaknesses. Also doubles as a medic because Maru taught him a couple of things. However, if Sam (likely) or Abigail (unlikely) die, it's gonna take a toll on him. He won't give up, but he'll definitely be more distracted. And that's how one sneaks up behind him.
2. Shane- Ex gridball player, farmhand, JojaMart employee, Shane is pretty strong. His mental health is, of course, pretty shitty, but he keeps on going for Marnie and Jas. However, if they died (especially Jas) he wouldn't even fight anymore.
Alex- Strong, brave, and capable. He's the town's defender, helping everyone in need. Granny Eve would make little supply baskets and Alex would deliver them. Probably dies protecting someone but lasts a very long time.
