Fall 10, Year 1
After trading some fish with the Junimo in the Community Centre yesterday to fix the Fish Tank, which somehow also cleared the giant boulder in the mountains this morning???, Beep had stopped to inspect the new flow of water on his way back from the mines. Unfortunately, this allowed a leaf blown by the rain to smack the deer right across his face. Sure it was just a matter of wiping his head against his side, or using a wing to wipe it off, but this was not a smart deer.

Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Special new farm map; Frontier Farm! Stardew Valley Expanded; new maps, new NPCs, new events, a LOT of new stuff. The new “Farmer” is just a Weird Ass Deer. NPCs will respond/react accordingly.

Fall 8, Year 1 Some time during the night, a phenomenon occurred; a Stone Owl statue appeared on Avalon Farm. As the Wizard Magnus is the protector of the valley, he set out to investigate where it appeared. When he arrived, he heard a commotion unlike anything he had ever heard before. At first he though the full coop was the source, before he started to look around. All the debris and trees were cleared, as were the huge stumps and logs, and boulders. Then he found the commotion. Across the river bisecting the farm, the local peryton had found the Stone Owl first. Whatever magical phenomenon occurred to spawn it here must've registered as an intruder to Beep. (Marlon had told him the locals had given the peryton a name) The deer look-a-like had ruffled his fur all along his neck and spine, tail fully bristled. Wings splayed out in what would be typical of a threat display. But something was wrong. There was an... aura. One that didn't feel like anything ever felt during the Wizard's travels. And the normal blue of Beep's eyes were replaced with darkness. This peryton was more than outside of the usual habitat. How did it come to this world? Why? This discovery lead to many more questions. As of now; This creature had shown itself to be harmless to the locals, and no threat to the safety of the Valley... so far. There was no need to alert Marlon just yet...... ——— Shoving a bit of my fursona's lore into this because idk. Maybe this'll explain how the Weird Ass Deer got here in the first place. Maybe I'll do a secret side plot that has nothing to do with Stardew Valley, Expand Dong or not, for the fuck of it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fuck if I know. I'm bullshitting any lore or character interactions beyond the log as I write the description. I put literally little-to-no forethought into the "plot" of this au. I am not a smart deer. ——— Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Special new farm map; Frontier Farm! Summer 27, Year 1
Two straps for the belly band, two straps for the chest band, two on each bag for four. That's eight straps. Must have some manner of fastening them.
It wasn't her usual day, but Abigail felt like going for her walk to the Wizard's Tower. On her way there, she spotted the Weird Ass Deer, or as everyone else started called him; Beep, settling into the grass near the locked sewer gate. There was no mistaking the glowing blue antlers, or the wings no normal deer should have.
Several hours later, on her way back home, Abigail saw Beep hadn't moved from the cliff. He didn't have antlers now, and seemed to be relaxing. The view of the water must be nice. That, or the wind since he had wings. Abigail started walking faster, slightly unnerved by the unnatural creature.
As Abigail hurried home, Beep once again repeated a word in his home tongue. Inside the shade of the sewer, Krobus replied with the same word, but in the language of the Shadow People. Despite only knowing each other for a few days, they were becoming fast friends. Monsters amongst people, happy to coexist. Beep learned Krobus meant "Bridge-crosser" in Shadow People language. Krobus learned how Beep came to be here, and his actual name. The secrets were safe with him. Krobus explained the war between the Dwarves and Shadow People over ancestral land. Beep shared a wild horseradish he had preserved since Spring. It might've been a little stale, but Krobus still loved it. Back and forth, sharing how to say different words in their different languages for fun, until the sun began to set, and Beep had to return to the farm.

Summer 25, Year 1
With golden pick tucked between his wing and bag, and several iridium ingots prepared, Beep went into town to get the tarnished pickaxe fixed up and improved. It only took waiting two hours for Clint to open, and then even longer trying to convey what he wanted. Clint seemed insistent on not understanding Beep wanted to upgrade the pickaxe, even with the tool and ingots placed on his counter. By the end of it, and 25,000g lighter, Beep was ready to start ripping feathers out from the frustration of it all. It didn't help Clint also spent the whole interaction whining about Emily and about how nobody liked him. It was so hard to guess why. >_>
When Marlon approached Beep afterwards and told him to follow, he was worried it was regarding the peryton's presence in town. Turns out Beep wasn't the only secret monster, but this one was hidden to all but Marlon and Magnus.
Krobus was a shadow person unlike all others of his kind, and, just like Beep, was content to simply coexist. The introduction took a few tries, as the smell of the Sewer didn't agree with Beep's sensitive nose. A makeshift mask made of bandages Marlon always kept on hand was good enough, though awkward to wear and a test of trust between monster and monster hunter. The sludge on the tile was worse.
Thankfully, Krobus understood the Sewers weren't for everyone and was willing to meet Beep at the Sewer Grate south of Fairhaven Farm. It kept him in the shadows enough for his sensitivity, and still allowed Beep to converse and conduct business without issue. It was the start of a lovely friendship.

Story for this one is kinda weird. Hid it below the cut since it's long.
Fall 17, Year 1
The invitation to the Wizard's Tower wasn't outside of the norm. Him (and Marlon) knowing Beep was a sapient creature was a nice change from how the other townsfolk interacted with the peryton. All of the visits (and gifts) over time must've shown Beep was trustworthy, because this visit, Magnus wanted to show Beep something! It started with a new potion that tasted like cotton candy.
"With this, you can begin accumulating mana from the world around you, allowing you to cast some minor magic."
Curiously, Beep seemed to already have that ability! The potion only made it much stronger, allowing him to draw in mana at an even greater quantity. How he already had that ability, something normal peryton didn't have, was a question for later. Normal peryton never cared about farming either, or interpersonal relationships. As they descended the stairs into the wizard's study (the basement), Magnus explained how he could now trust Beep with a Shrine that allowed him to cast illusions over himself. Such an idea came with the thought that Beep could disguise himself as a human to allow him to interact with the townsfolk easier. The language barrier would be a problem, but it was something they could work on while they fine tuned Beep's human disguise.
As soon as they rounded the corner into the reading nook, where the shrine was placed against one wall, the sound of hooves fell silent behind Magnus. As Magnus stepped closer to the Shrine of Illusion to give an example, he felt a shift in the room. Every light source in the room dimmed until they barely gave any light at all. A bitter chill ran through his limbs, prompting him to slowly turn around.
Beep was an odd peryton in behaviour alone in the time Magnus and Marlon had been observing him. (Barring the illusory antlers, but that was none of their business.) The only outlier was the incident over a week ago with the Stone Owl apparition, which Magnus had chalked up to a territorial display and a trick of the light over the deer's eyes.
This was no trick of the light.
A flash of adrenaline travelled down the wizard's spine as his eyes adjusted to the darkness. The peryton had reared up onto his hind legs, but not in the way a deer typically would. It was into an almost bipedal stance, using a suddenly longer tail as a counterweight. The alula's of both wings shuffled as new claws grew through the feathers, razor sharp and glossy from their emergence. The same was said for the changing hooves, appearing to be shifting into something more hand-like. The glowing antlers, flickering as the spell struggled, cast dancing light across eyes of pure void. And a maw opened wider than thought possible. Something shimmered and shone around his neck, but the thick fur hid it's outline too much to determine it's shape.
Despite the peryton's more monstrous form, was he even a peryton to begin with?, he didn't seem to be aggressive. At least not towards Magnus. He was able to back up into the previous corridor while Beep hissed and made strange sounds at the Shrine. Something about it set off this creature. With some gentle words, Magnus was able to redirect Beep's attention away from the Shrine and to him. If he needed to, he could defend himself. That proved unnecessary, as once the focus was away from the Shrine, Beep returned to a quadrupedal stance, licking his lips (a stress response?), and the light returned to the room. As the room lit up again, the changes reverted and a normal winged-deer stood before Magnus. Almost as if nothing had happened. Only some ruffled feathers and messy fur to show anything had changed with the peryton.
"Let's just scrap the illusion idea, shall we?"
Beep bobbed his head in a nod, then trotted past Magnus with nothing more than the lingering scent of rotting eggs, pungent and unpleasant. A jar of alchemy ingredient must've gotten knocked over in the commotion. With a request to come by any time for tea and a chat, Magnus lost sight of the deer as he ascended the stairs.
What the actual fuck was that.

Fall 5, Year 1
A normal trip to Krobus to peruse his wares and have a chat at the Cindersap Forest sewer grate led to the two going for a walk. The rain meant most people were indoors to escape the weather, so there was no risk walking over to the Secret Woods behind the Wizards Tower. Beep ate the Stardrop he got from Krobus on the walk, taking advantage of the seclusion to openly use his magic.

Summer 23, Year 1
Bad news; The house renovation wasn't ready until early this morning, so Beep won't be able to relax until tonight.
Good news; After helping Evelyn with the flower beds, a nice long bath to clean up will feel AMAZING. Which means squeaky Beepy tonight for his first night in the fixed up house.
Bad news; Haley was walking by and, unprompted; "Ew, you're all dirty" with her usual bitchy attitude which already repelled the local deer.
Good news; Evelyn wasn't taking shit from anyone.
After straining her wrist baking last night, and everyone else busy (especially with the Tuesday exercise class), Evelyn was thankful for the assistance. The deer offered help with a snort and a repeated head bob at the watering can she was struggling to lift. (Though it was hard to tell at first if the bobbing was positive or negative with his full rack of crystalline antlers.) Thankfully it was made clearer when Beep laid down next to the can, waiting for Evelyn to set it on his back. It took a second can after the first one spilled for Beep to realise he should use his wings to stabilise the weight on his back. With him leaning to tilt the can, and Evelyn guiding the watering can nozzle, they got most of the flowers watered. There was a slippery patch and the deer fell down in the mud patch from the first spill, but Beep remained unharmed. Thankfully there was only a few more flowers left, so Beep was able to water the last few on his own while Evelyn scolded Haley for her rude comment.
———
Haley is a bitch. Also I had several people across the places I post these say they thought the deer had been using a watering can this whole time, and then questions of how a deer would use said watering can. I explained multiple times; carrying a metal container, heavy with water, against teeth sounds HORRIBLE.

Summer 22, Year 1
While Robin finishes up upgrading the house on Avalon Farm with more protective supervision by the Adventurer Guild, the deer is on the opposite side of the property running an experiment.
Five rows each of the five different tree types. Fir, maple, oak, pine, and birch. Mahogany couldn't be tapped. It was too hard of a wood. While Beep only really needed one of each for this experiment, he had made enough tappers for all twenty-five, and definitely had enough seeds to replant a proper tree farm in a much better location later. For now, while he had no idea if tree seeds even needed to be watered (he'll later find out they didn't; only fertilised), he watered it just as he did the crops growing in the main field.
Carefully vibrating the pinions of one wing, water vapour condensed along the vanes of the feathers, forming fat heavy droplets. Once large enough, the water streaked off his wing, dripping onto the sapling below. It was a very energy intensive spell, one that usually left him too exhausted to use his wings for flight, but a very useful spell nonetheless. He was very thankful to the one who taught it to him before his arrival here. Perhaps he should start smelting the ores he's been collecting. Make some ingots for sprinklers. This spell risked shocking himself if he let it go on for too long, or condensed the magic too thickly in his wings; the vibration charged the air which drew the water vapour together, but it could also form a proper charge and zap him if he wasn't careful.
He should make a note so he remembered to make some sprinklers. Now that he found a charcoal stick (and wrapped it in a scrap of fabric to make it easier to hold as well as not put the charcoal into his mouth), he could start keeping better track of things. First thing first though; once the repairs were complete on the house, he was gonna sleep for a whole day.
———
Deer magic is not a thing in the game, but it is for my fursona (the deer in question). Plus I wanted to show how Beep would water the crops since, you know, no watering can or way to use one even if he had one.

Summer 21, Year 1
Pam doesn't care who rides the bus, as long as they sit down, shut up, and pay the fare.
After the bus ride back, bag heavy with spoils from the Skull Cavern, Beep walks back to the farm no worse for wear. No monster ever attacked another in the local Mines, and the same seemed to be true for Skull Cavern as well. His exploration was only limited by the amount of bombs he had packed for mining. Chicken did find an old pickaxe, the gold tarnished after who-knows how long in the brutal monster-infested environment. It was too brittle for use, if a deer even could, but perhaps a trip to the town's blacksmith was in order…
For now, it joined the old axe they found during hide-and-seek a week ago.
Later that night, after taking a stroll to watch the final day of the Trout Derby, Chicken had to leave. They came with the Green Rain, and it was time for them to go… wherever Junimos live when they're not inhabiting decrepit buildings. Beep will miss them.

Summer 20, Year 1 The previous day, Jas saw the deer on its way back from the mines. Since she'd had previous positive interactions with it, a friendly "hi" couldn't hurt! It made a sound very similar to a "beep". And thus; His name is Beep. This gets around very quickly, and while all the adults know what a male deer actually looks like, they had no explanation why this strange creature had (intangible) antlers. Or wings. Or carnivore teeth in an herbivores body. This is just another curiosity to add to the list. And 'Beep' was better than calling it him a Weird Ass Deer. Also it could somehow afford to pay for Robin to refurbish the old house and add an extra room. If it was going to partake in exchange of money for goods and services, and wasn't hurting anyone/thing, then what's the worst that could happen? ——— Things different from canon; (AU???) (Take two; I hit backspace while not in the description, the page went back, and when I clicked forward, EVERYTHING was gone. So here's typing it all over again.)
Summer 15, Year 1
When Robin finished refurbishing the old coop (under the watchful protection of the Adventurer Guild… just in case), the deer decided to spend the rest of the night sniffing out everything new about the once-decrepit building. Once full of broken bottles and cans, now primed for livestock.
With Jas vouching for the deer, and Robin saying it had stopped by her shop, Marnie was left curious when the deer came by early in the afternoon. It walked up to the counter and spat out a leaf folded around four chicken feathers. The feathers were clearly several years old at the least; they were filthy and from a type of chicken she hadn't seen in the valley before. Not from one of her chickens. The deer looked up at her, back at the feathers, then back up at her. It snorted and tapped a hoof multiple times against the floor.
Those blue antlers weren't natural. Deer also didn't have fangs. Or wings? How had she not noticed those before? Maybe because she was too busy chasing it away with her broom. Deer frolicked in the woods and ate grass, not walk around a town and use a BAG.
Tap-tap-tap-tap.
Marnie was very glad Jas was at the beach and Shane was at work. She was about to feel incredibly stupid. Just pretend it's another customer. Not some… Weird Ass Deer.
"You want… a chicken?" Marnie asked, feeling very ridiculous. "It's 800g, they come as chicks, and you need a coop to house them." She smiled awkwardly. "Though Robin tells me you recently got a coop, so that should be fine."
Tap-tap-tap-tap.
The deer lifted a wing, and Marnie got a good look at the barring along the underside, like some kind of raptor. It shoved it's head into the bag, and spat out a mouthful of coins. The deer stilled, eyes moving along the coins, then it went back for a second mouthful.
This thing could count? It understood currency???
Not being the grossest thing Marnie had touched even that day, she picked up the coins and counted them. This thing didn't seem rabid. She froze as she saw several of the marked coins Lewis had told her to watch out for. She had expected Gus to get these, or Pierre. Did Robin get some of the marked coins too? How did a deer even get 3,200g in the first place!?
"This is exactly enough for four chickens-" Marnie suddenly realised why it had been tapping. Tapping four times. "I will be right back with those chicks for you!" She said with a strained smile.
Once the deer left with four chicks on it's back, Marnie made a mental note to talk to Shane when he came home from the Saloon after work. That thing was a carnivore, and she just gave it four sacrifices to determine if it really was trustworthy.

[StarDeer Valley] What sound does an Apple make?
Summer 14, Year 1 Deep in Cindersap Forest, the Weird Ass Deer and the Junimo called Chicken were having fun playing a game of Hide and Seek. North of Pelican Town, in the Mountain area, Mayor Lewis had just concluded his business at Robin's store, checking in on how business is going. Just as he was about to leave, Robin had a question; Has anyone noticed the deer acting stranger than usual? - The townsfolk were uncertain when a deer unlike any other they had seen showed up at the abandoned farm, and even more unsure when it didn't act like a normal deer. Marlon and the Wizard both declared it to not be a threat, so the townsfolk tolerated it's presence while the local Adventuring Guild kept watch over it. Just in case. - Lewis has chalked up the produce and materials in Avalon Farm's shipping bin to the local teens causing trouble. His marked coins left behind hadn't shown up at any of the vendors since he started leaving them behind in return for the wares. - Pam caught it with a book, almost like it had been reading. - Marnie told Lewis about the deer guiding poor Jas back after she got lost in Cindersap Forest, and how despite her chasing it off, it didn't start shying away from people like you'd expect an animal to after being scared off. Now Robin tells Lewis the deer had just walked in like it was perfectly normal, wearing the saddlebag Emily had mentioned making for it. Robin was about to shoo it out when it spat a leaf out onto her counter. But it wasn't just a leaf, it was a leaf with a chicken feather and few pieces of hay wrapped up in it. While Robin was confused, it reached around into one of the bags with its mouth and dropped a bundled Jojamart bag full of coins onto the counter. Since when do deer understand economics? The deer spit was disgusting, but Robin noticed the coins were all marked like Lewis had told the shopkeepers to keep an eye out for. The money, while also covered in saliva and needing to be sanitised, was quite substantial, but most notably a round amount. The deer was looking between her, the items on the counter, and the money. A chicken feather and hay, a large amount of money, and an unspoken inquiry. "A chicken coop?" There was an old coop on Avalon farm that could be refurbished easily. It'd take less time than building a new one with Robin's expertise. Once Robin slid the items closer to her side of the counter, the deer simply turned around... and walked out. She added the door knob to the list of things to sanitise... As soon as the deer was gone, Robin had called Marnie to ask if she was missing any chickens, but they were all accounted for. Deer were normally herbivores (baring the odd bit of protein), but this was a Weird Ass Deer, and those teeth were primed for flesh. What could a deer want with a chicken coop? As much as Robin was unsure about taking a job from a wild animal, she did have time and resources to fulfil the order. It would be trivial, even, to fix up the old coop. And she didn't want to find out exactly how different this deer was or how much it knew about promises being kept... And what would happen if she didn't fulfil her side of the deal now that she'd taken it's money. (What did a deer even need money for? To purchase farm buildings, clearly.) Lewis made note to talk to Marlon again. Maybe someone could keep an eye while Robin was at Avalon Farm. Depending on how this went, Lewis might ask Gunther to start researching some things in the library section of the museum. This interaction was most interesting indeed, and felt like a significant event.
———
In which I lore about shit while also writing like shit. Idk. Trying to balance how people would realistically react to the Weird Ass Deer, while also keeping things somewhat close to the Log I made. Also I forgot to write WHEN I requested the chicken coop, so breaking more canon; there's one already on the farm (which isn't true, even for the Frontier Farm map) and it'll be 'built' when I have it notated in the Log. I do this for fun, any inconsistencies are attributed to I literally do not care about continuity. The fact the deer (my fursona) keeps changing size despite my best efforts to keep things consistent shows how unserious I'm being about this. I'm just having fun, and that's it.

Egg.

Why was the Weird Ass Deer in town? Why was it picking up the eggs? But most importantly; why the fuck did Mayor Lewis count it as a participant in the Egg Hunt??? Abigail is not happy losing. If it was Jas or Vincent, that'd be different, but a deer???

Fall 16, Year 1
Lewis owed him BIG TIME.
Marlon wouldn't even be redirecting Beep if Lewis hadn't put the letter about the Stardew Valley Fair and the Grange display in the peryton's mailbox. The last thing this town needed was a tourist seeing a monster wandering around freely. It would open up too many questions and while the local Adventurer Guild was keeping an eye on the strange creature, if word got out to other Guilds, it could result in chaos. Maybe even Marlon's removal as head of the Stardew branch of the Guild. And most certainly the capture and/or death of this curious peryton.
Thankfully, Beep seemed to enjoy being helpful. So long as Marlon put out the display for him, Beep was content to go to the deepest part of Cindersap Forest to collect made up ingredients for a made up potion that at most wouldn't work. (At worst; poison the imbiber.) A task that would take several hours at least; Andy was bragging about clearing out most of the forage yesterday, so pickings would be slim.
Still, Marlon made sure to hold up his end of the bargain. Lewis had left an open Grange display (Why???), so Marlon set up the forage, flowers, and animal products for the reclusive proprietor of Avalon Farm. Marlon had no intention of finding out what would happen if Beep lost trust in him or Magnus. They were key in keeping this whole facade up. If the strange peryton were to flee or be captured, they'd never find out why he was so far and so different from others of his kind.
This train of thought distracted Marlon so severely, he almost missed that Avalon Farm won the Grange display, much to Pierre's chagrin. The shopkeeper couldn't outwardly say it in a crowded festival, but he knew he had just lost to what he considers "just a weird animal". With the displays judged, and prize collected, Marlon collected everything once more. He traded in the points for something he assumed a four-hoofed farmer would want, then went off in search of Beep.
A quick lie of finding the rest of the ingredients on his walk, and one iridium bar lighter (ouch), Beep was happily trotting back to Avalon Farm. None the wiser. Was it naivety? A mask of innocence to lower their guard? Marlon was starting to drift into paranoia. He shook it off and reminded himself Beep had done nothing to rise suspicion other than being a bit too smart for a peryton. Just as Krobus was different from other Shadow People, perhaps this was a similar situation? Only time would tell.

This is my first time playing Stardew Valley Expanded, so I’m learning as I go. (Please no spoilers if you play SVE)

[StarDeer Valley] Skill Issues
Summer 11, Year 1
There were a lot of people on the beach today, which got the attention of the Weird Ass Deer (and the Junimo the deer called Chicken). Thankfully there was a whole other side to the beach where they could watch while staying mostly out of the way, and it had cool tide pools! After a brief splash in the water, the deer was laying near the edge of one of the tide pools, peering inside to look at the ecosystem within, when something cold, wet, and spiny suctioned itself to the deer's head (breaking the glamour of the antlers).
Then Chicken runs off, payload deposited, to fulfil their chaotic urges. Did you know Junimo's can hide if they so desire? Nobody noticed when the soup splashed with a surprise ingredient, too focused on Lewis smooth talking the Governor.
