Spring 21, Year 2 Beep's attempt to use his Nexus led to him learning the bright flash of magic was incredibly disorienting. Eventually he'll learn to close his eyes before stepping into the magic circle. "I hear Beep's actually some kind of rare deer. Endangered or vulnerable so they're very rare to see." "I heard he's way outside of his species usual habitat, got lost during some migration or something." "Has anyone told you? His kind of deer has incredibly low successful birth rates. They rarely produce viable offspring." "I think the high levels of magic in the valley are what caused such an odd deer to gravitate here. It makes sense. There's something clearly magical about him, harmless as he is." "No, he can't be a monster. Those are dangerous, and he's done nothing but help the folks here." The rumour mill of Pelican Town was lively in the Saloon most evenings, and all it took was a single night for Marlon and a few other trusted voices to spread the word. Most were true as far as Marlon was aware, maybe one or two stretching the truth. Either way, it would keep folks from looking into what Beep was, or misidentifying him. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Stardew Valley Expanded; new maps, new NPCs, new events, a LOT of new stuff. The new “Farmer” is just a Weird Ass Deer. NPCs will respond/react accordingly. This is my first time playing Stardew Valley Expanded. Please no spoilers if you play SVE.

Fall 27, Year 1 "What are you doing on this plane? What is it you're trying to accomplish here?" Beep felt seen. Someone else knew. Mr.Qi still couldn't understand him though... "You've got spark. Something interesting about you. Just keep doing your best and never give up." If Beep's friends were trying to find him, maybe he could help from this side too? What did he need? How long would it take? He never learned much magic before he got lost, but he'd have to try. What's the worst that could happen experimenting with magic he didn't understand? First thing first though; he needed to stay alive long enough for his friends to find him. ——— Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Fall 25, Year 1
With Beep's ability to move amongst other monsters, it made searching the mines for resources and artefacts much easier than it would be for a human. Finding all four Dwarf Scrolls still took a long-ass time.
Ever since Gunther heard of Beep's free movement in the mines, he's been more than happy to compensate the deer for his discoveries. Now, with the scrolls, he pieced together a translation guide for the Dwarf language. He gave Beep a copy should he need it for future excavations. The fact the deer could understand him, and read, was astounding. Once Beep collected the Dwarf Translation Guide, he walked over to one of the study tables to look it over. Unfortunately, memorising the language would take too long and was much too difficult. This deer was sapient, but not very bright. Thankfully, the book fit conveniently in the saddlebag, so it could be kept on hand if he ever needed it.

Winter 18, Year 1
When Beep disappeared for two days, the Adventurer's Guild member keeping Robin company reported it to Marlon. When Marlon heard, and that this happened after townsfolk entered the peryton's den and replaced it's nest, he became increasingly worried. This was an abnormal creature amongst an already rare monster species. The sudden disappearance of an anomaly was concerning. Despite being informed the new nest had been slept in, he wasn't entirely sure that meant Beep had been the one to use it. When he arrived, there was no indication Beep had noticed. Previous times, the peryton had met him near the farm house, or was clearly visible walking towards him. (He'd seen the peryton stalking prey before, and he was only able to due to decades as a monster hunter.) When he pushed open the farmhouse door and saw Beep sleeping in the nest, he backed out instantly for fear of disturbing him, but instinct had him on alert. The fire was out and Beep hadn't moved. Keeping an arm out just in case this went poorly, Marlon entered the beasts den, and gently kicked the side of the nest. No movement. He snapped his finger near the peryton's ear. It twitched on the third snap. Something was wrong. Beep only began to rouse when Marlon began to roll Beep from his side onto his belly, head trembling as he lifted it. When next Beep opened his eyes, he was laying on a bed in a bright room. This had been beyond Marlon's ability, and Harvey had medical training. While Beep would be fine after some rest and rehydration, having a doctor look him over brought attention to something Beep had hoped would be overlooked with his antler glamour. When Marlon and Harvey came back to check on him, Harvey started using the wrong words to describe him. Each time, Beep's hackles raised just a bit higher, despite being exhausted. Of course since he had been asleep when he was brought here, he didn't have his antlers with him, which didn't help his feeling of wrongness. It was when Harvey called him a 'doe', that Beep actually lunged (half-heartedly) and bared his teeth. Harvey backed away fully, but Marlon held his hand out towards the peryton. Beep sniffed his hand, then licked his lips much like a stressed wolf, settling back down. When Harvey referred to Beep incorrectly again and got a repeated reaction, Marlon had to explain that despite his lack of natural antlers (and other things), Beep was a buck. He was no threat to the townsfolk as far as the Adventurer Guild had determined. So long as Marlon stayed, Harvey would treat Beep's dehydration and make sure he recovered quickly. Also having a wild animal that he learned was actually a monster (and sworn to secrecy for the town's peace of mind) in his office wasn't something he wanted to have long-term, so the sooner Beep left, the sooner Harvey could clean up all the deer fur. While waiting for the saline drip to do it's thing, Beep laid on the clinic bed. Perhaps trying to cast a complicated spell on barely any sleep, and after forgetting to eat and drink for a couple days, wasn't the best idea. He would've been fine on his own, but Marlon helping him (and standing up for him) helped speed things along. Beep would have to be more careful in the future before doing any big spells again. ———

Summer 2, Year 2 Gunther wasn't going to ask about all the bandages covering Beep's body. He took the Rusty Shield and placed it in it's temporary home. He waited until Beep had a chance to admire the fully restored museum (after the previous curator made off with the whole collection) to clean up and organise things. Once that was done, he alerted Mayor Lewis the museum was holding an event to show off everything! Since they couldn't credit a weird ass deer for the restoration, a plaque was put up (with Beep's blessing) thanking the Pelican Town Adventurer Guild for their contributions. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Summer 15, Year 2 While Beep was on his way to the Mines, Marlon called him over. He wanted to introduce Beep to someone who had heard of the strange peryton, and had already met him in passing. After taking Marlon's boat far up river, they docked at the Highlands Fortress. There, Marlon introduced Beep to Lance, a member of the First Slash Clan, a guild that protects the Fern Islands from monsters. Lance had seen Beep at the Dwarven Forge on Ginger Island the previous month, then saw the deer again in Pelican Town on a visit to Marlon's guild. Lance was very interested in Beep's ability to walk amongst monsters unbothered and unharmed. He was currently working on an experiment involving seeds left behind by monsters during their wandering, typically picked up when a monster is slain, but he lacked the farming know-how to get them to grow properly. With Beep able to pick up the seeds, and the farm skill to grow them, this would be a massive help to his research! While Lance was showing Beep the fortress, he climbed to the top to show a higher point of view. Had Beep still had intact wings, he could've flown up from outside. However, since Camilla burnt of his primary pinions, he had to try and navigate using the ladder on the inside. Unfortunately, while Beep was only four feet tall at his withers, he was much thicker than a typical person, especially with his wings. He got caught, and while trying to wiggle and squirm his way through the roof hatch, he felt his feathers catch, and several crunches in quick succession. The sensation of cold in his right wing told him he also damaged his pin feathers. Fuck. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Fall 6, Year 2 Deciding he needed a break from the tension in Pelican Town, Beep decided to spend a few days at the island. Willy was more than happy to fish off the pier, and sleep on his boat. (He did so during fishing season anyway.) While Beep was going around counting flowers around the island and looking for a single missing bone of a fossil, Willy talked with Leo, the cast away child on the island. Beep had met Leo when the deer first arrived here, since there hadn't been anyone else here (aside from the Pirate's wife who lived on the opposite shore and presumably they never interacted? Or did so super rarely? It was unclear...) in a LONG time, and the child was very curious. They've rarely interacted since. Beep left offerings of pristine duck feathers in the child's hut whenever he came to the island, but the only indication Leo was still around was the feather disappearing, or some of the fruit going missing from the orchard Beep set up on the island farm. (He didn't mind.) There was a wildness to Leo that reminded Beep of another child he held deerly. Two, specifically, close to his hart. Gods fucking damn it the fucking puns were sneaking in when he wasn't even trying. He could already hear the crystalline chimes of his larger mate's laughter. Number of flowers delivered, final bone found, and Beep received his reward from the researcher guy that had been trapped in the mushroom cave for [duration quantity missing]. It was a recipe for an ostrich egg incubator...? Did Beep even have enough room for ostriches? Did they require special care? He didn't even know where he could find any ostrich eggs??? Still, it was nice to have when he eventually found an egg? When Beep returned to the boat to head back to the main land, Willy was just saying good bye to Leo. The feral child was scared of Beep, but there was no offence taken. He was uncanny to anyone unfamiliar with peryton, and it was why the townsfolk took so long to warm up to him. It appeared as though Leo was befriending Willy, and was eager to hear of the other children in Pelican Town. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Fall 3, Year 2 When Magnus and Marlon got wind of what Camilla did, they both hurried over the next day to make sure Beep was okay. It was the first time Beep actively threat-displayed at either of them, backing away from the wizard and monster hunter. They could see from the way his body shook that he was deeply affected from Camilla's deernapping, so they left him alone. The whole situation took away any autonomy Beep had over himself, an issue he had dealt with when he was mortal, and he barely took back control with help from his mates at their home. He absolutely DESPISED feeling helpless. He remembered the noodlier of his mates telling him to face these situations head on. Take back control of the situation he felt powerless in. It took a big chunk of his remaining money after wasting most of it on a house for Pam and Penny that Pam immediately made a mess of, but with Krobus' help, they figured out a plan for Beep. Overnight shipping for a donkey's flymask, replacement mesh that could block sand, and polo wrap (the website only had olive coloured ones left) was expensive. There weren't many options for body covering that wouldn't overheat Beep, so they decided to take the oldest sheets in the house and turn them into a makeshift cloak and neck wrap. Krobus had to pull the corners between Beep's back legs, then criss-cross the front corners after pulling those through his front legs, then pin the fabric up over Beep's sides. It was secure, breathable, and should keep a majority of the sand out of unfortunate places. The magic flames marking safety for the First Slash guild members were blue, so a blue cloak and glowing blue antlers would hopefully prevent any misunderstanding while he was exploring the Crimson Badlands? The reflective material of the flymask was an additional hope for "don't attack this monster" safety. Worst comes to worst, Beep had the Farm Totem tucked beneath his wing in case he had to make an emergency return. Camilla wouldn't take control from him. Nobody would.

Summer 25, Year 2 While out collecting forage, Beep spotted a previously unseen path in West Cindersap Forest. He followed it deeper into the woods, until it opened into a clearing. But not just any normal clearing; a massive spring! Summer 18, Year 2 After adding the Aurora Vineyard warp to his Nexus, Beep wandered around town for a few hours on a quest for summer forage. Shortly after noon, he ran into Sam, who was taking Vincent to the beach. The three of them detoured to the ice cream stand, where Alex was just arriving to work. Later, Beep will once again be reminded that, while ice cream was very delicious, it did NOT agree with him. Still worth it. To avoid gassing Krobus out of the house (honestly he lived in a sewer, would he even notice? Or mind? That was something Beep didn't want to think about), Beep went to his lair. He set his antler clips next to the lantern, letting the magic recharge them. While not it's intended function, it served this purpose well. While the clips pulled magical energy into them, Beep started going over his notes. He had the egg, which acted as a link to his mates. He gave an offering of pleasant memories, to strengthen the connection. If this was a spell where the ingredients were physical things, this would be SO MUCH EASIER. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Summer 13, Year 2
It was time for Chicken to return to the Junimo Village, but before they left, they wanted to introduce Beep to someone new!
Without Magnus or Camilla to tell Beep the scroll was written by a child Junimo looking for Starfruit, Beep had to be introduced to the young Junimo by another one of the magical spirits. The young Junimo, called Apple, was looking for friends to play with! Beep still gave them some Starfruit seeds for… whatever it was they were planning, and promised to come back and play!
Alone again, Beep was walking back to Avalon Farm when he saw Shane and Jas hanging out near the pond. Jas was kind to him, so Beep stopped to say hi. The townsfolk had noticed Beep was missing a few feathers, but nobody knew how or why. When Jas, who had only seen chickens moult before, tried to touch the newly emerging feathers, Beep flinched away and instinctively wing slapped at the hand. Thankfully Shane had predicted this and put his arm between Beep and Jas, and the wing slaps were more scolding than harming, so there was no damage intended and no damage done. Shane explained why Beep reacted that way, and to be careful when on that side of Beep so the pinfeathers weren't damaged, as that would damage the new feathers as well.
Jas gently pet the covert-covered area of Beep's wing to show she understood, and for Beep to show he hadn't meant any harm by accepting the contact. It was under Shane's watchful eye during this that he noticed a few covert feathers were singed on their edges. Had something happened in the Mines? Or was this from someone in town who wasn't very accepting of Beep's presence here? After spring, where Shane was around farm animals and had recognised the sign of a gravid beast, and no sign of a young… whatever Beep was… he was starting to worry for the creature. This was no deer, but he also hadn't seen anything like it. That meant it was far away from whatever normal habitat it came from. Was it intentional? Or were the missing and burnt feathers indicative of Beep fleeing and hiding from someone? Or something?

Summer 10, Year 2 Beep was not very bright, nor very observant. Thankfully, having a friend to help him allowed Beep to solve a really fucking annoying bullshit fucking crystal asshole simon-says fucking shit fuck ass puzzle. They also helped him notice a Golden Walnut hidden in plain view behind a palm tree. Mr.Qi didn't seem particularly bothered with Chicken running around the room as he explained the Qi Gems, or the machine that dispensed rewards in exchange for them. Perhaps it was Beep's immediate interest in the new quests, or Chicken distracting him with their dancing around on the keyboard before Mr.Qi shooed them away, but Beep never noticed the cat-themed machine off to the right of the room... Summer 6, Year 2 Magnus had explained what happened with Beep and Camilla to Marlon as soon as he was able to convince Camilla not to go after Beep. Neither had known Beep was capable of that level of magic... That he hadn't used such powers before was a good point to his character. Now to get Camilla to see that... Meanwhile; The worst of Beep's wounds had healed once he returned to his normal self. He still had to spend the next (past) five days using magic and elixirs to encourage them to heal the rest of the way. Now, he only needed to worry about the lesser, but still problematic, wounds on his neck and forelegs. If anything, he was more annoyed about his wing. That magic blast had burnt his primary feathers to almost half their length, rendering them useless. He had pulled them (ow) and stashed them in his lair, but now he had a long wait for them to grow back. Ordinarily they'd drop and grow one at a time during his moult, barely affecting his flight ability, but this wasn't an ordinary circumstance. At least he didn't need to worry too much. And the townsfolk, upon learning the Green Rain was harmless last year, were out and about today. Also Beep found Chicken after they fell out of a tree. Spring 25, Year 2 Beep finally had the final offering to the Junimo in the abandoned Joja Mart. With a fairwell, the Junimo disappeared, and the reward was left unclear. No recipe, machine for the farm, or seeds. Oh well?????? Thankfully Beep had plenty of practice flapping his way up through the hole in the roof, so he left without issue to forage today's Spring Onions down in Cindersap Forest. While there, he decided to check the Mastery Cave with those sealed vaults. He unlocked the final one, and accepted the recipes for a home-version of the Dwarven Forge on the island, and a recipe for how to construct an anvil. Then he felt a presence alongside him. Beep's fur and feathers stood on end. This was not the comforting ethereal presence of his mates. This was something else. A soul lingering in the lands, the same one he felt at the shrine on Avalon Farm? Beep lacked the ability his mates both had to commune with spirits, as such he couldn't hear what the soul was saying. He took the spoils of his efforts and backed out of the cave. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Gramps never had an heir, or they never show/ed up. Spring 24, Year 2 A lot of the townsfolk were going through Cindersap Forest. Beep was on the other side of the river, foraging for Spring Onions when he noticed. When he followed them, he saw an elaborate set up for some kind of festival, one that required a lot of flowers! Unfortunately, Shane spotted Beep very quickly, so the deer didn't get much chance to look around and see what was going on. Since he was closest, Shane wrapped an arm loosely around Beep's neck, then used his hoodie sleeve like a makeshift lead rope. A trick he learned from living on Marnie's ranch when one of the cows escaped. While it wasn't necessary, since Beep readily followed Shane away from the festivities, Shane was still a bit wary. This was some weird kind of deer. One that raised farm animals itself, and could maintain a whole farm. It had bolted when Marnie swung a broom, fled when Demetrius threw a rock at it, but Shane had personally seen it go after a rabbit on a walk to work. Even now, he barely needed to use pressure to keep Beep following him, since the deer seemed to understand Shane was leading it away. Seeming to notice Shane looking at it, the deer met Shane's eyes. There was intelligence in those rectangular pupils. Shane let go of his hoodie sleeve and put it back on, the hairs on the back of his neck standing up. There was something unnerving about standing so close to Beep, something building in his legs and causing his heart to pound. Even the weird bleat Beep gave before walking off didn't quite sound right for a deer. What kind of deer had wings and sharp teeth? Even as Beep walked away, he could see the fangs as Beep took a spring onion from it's saddlebag, as easily as he'd take his keys from his pocket. A chill ran down Shane's back as he hurried back to the Flower Dance. ----- Originally, I had Shane pick up and carry Beep away like a calf, until I learned red deer stags are on average 400-ish lb (200kg). Even taking hollow bones into consideration, that's still too heavy, and too large a body (4ft/1.2m at the withers), to carry like that. Also I forget who was supposed to give Beep the flower necklace, so someone did at some point before Shane kicked him out. ----- Things different from canon; (AU???) Spring 20, Year 2
When Beep left the farm house, he was met by the Witch's henchman goblin. Specifically, former henchman. Apparently the witch wasn't happy her guard fled when faced with a monster and fired him. Now, he seemed to have toughened up enough to confront Beep and blame him for his unemployment. The goblin fucked off just in time for Magnus to show up, informing Beep he had something to help him on his return home.
An elixir, one that would increase Beep's internal magic well and allow him to make use of a very specific, and powerful, magical tool. In the Backwoods, Magnus cleared a pathway to a clearing, and together they turned it into a Nexus. A place untouched by time or the seasons, and could be linked to several areas, allowing Beep to warp around the valley with ease. It would cut down on time walking around, since it's become clear to the townsfolk Beep rarely flew unless necessary. The first warp set up was to the Wizard's tower, where his own Nexus was set up in a hallway. One Beep recognised as the wizard tower between Pelican Town and Grampleton, in the middle of the massive field. That wizard had a sign "by appointment only" so had never met that wizard. It was whatever. At least they didn't care Beep had been using the fields for a tree farm and for fish farming.
The past few days had several people noticing Beep's sudden decrease in thickness, and his large ears caught them whispering about looking out for a fawn. Marlon and Magnus knew it was more likely to be an egg, but Beep never confirmed or denied anything. They would never see this eggs. Even though it was a lifeless dud, it was far more valuable than any previous egg Beep had laid previous.
Roughly 5lb and slightly larger than an ostrich egg, the shell (soft as leather when laid) was as hard as metal. The stress of Beep's arrival last spring had put it in a biomagical stasis, one the egg was naturally in over winter as it stored energy, but prevented it from achieving the growth spurt it would typically have during spring with the abundance of food. That meant this egg still held the essence of Beep's mates (something he would not expand upon) and could use it as an anchor to them! And since his dud eggs were pure magic in their albumen and yolk, he didn't need to worry about it spoiling. No time table to worry about as he spent the past few days researching what he was able to with his limited collection of books he had with him when he arrived here.
Though he should probably think what to say if anyone asked about his egg/offspring. They couldn't know the value it held. He would tell Marlon and Magnus he had eaten it. Returned the energy to himself. Maybe Marlon could spread around the townsfolk that the fawn was sickly and perished. That way nobody would snoop around Avalon Farm to attempt to find a non-existent new life. The thought of baring new life made Beep's stomach twist in extreme nausea, so he got up and stretched. He will return to his research tomorrow.
