fyxestroll garden is one of the rare spots on the luofu where ren can meander rather undisturbed, at least most of the time. its emptiness seems to call out to souls as lost as he is, offering a quiet refuge despite the whispers and rumors surrounding the area. ghosts, spirits and other entities have since long been mentioned spotted here. however, that is obviously not why he is here. the unappealing aura itself is enough to keep people out & perhaps he prefers it that way—avoiding the risk of running into crowds, choosing these quiet places over the bustling streets where light never fades. though there are plenty of reasons to avoid those streets, the main one is staying out of sight, hoping to dodge run-ins with authorities or people he’d rather not encounter. yet, even in the solitude of fyxestroll, familiar faces sometimes appear. this time, a glimpse of grey hair catches his attention.

“ what are you doing here ? surely you aren’t looking for trouble ? ” with his arms crossed over his chest, he looks down at @starblazes, expression betraying the slight surprise from finding her here. though his words may sound accusatory, his tone remains calm and composed, without any hint of reprimand. it’s not his place to tell her what she should or shouldn’t do anyway. still, he can’t help but wonder what brought her here in the first place. curiosity be damned, he has nothing to lose by simply asking. her reaction hardly surprises him, as he stands firmly in the same spot where she had nearly bumped into him.

“ hm, are you here alone ? ”

ㅤㅤㅤ𝐢𝐭'𝐬   𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝   𝐭𝐨   𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧   𝐢𝐟   𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞   is   true   fondness   in   the   huntress'   gaze,   though   perhaps   it   would   be   more   apt   to   say   her   look   is   more   akin   to   a   wolf   staring   down   a   rabbit   -   keen   interest,   nigh   on   affection   for   a   meal   to   be   had   permeating   the   beautiful   elegance   of   her   classical   features.   of   course,   stelle   was   no   rabbit,   and   kafka   really   wasn't   a   wolf   -   but   the   words   surprise   her   more   than   anything,   enough   so   that   her   usual   mirthful   smile   curls   into   something   a   bit   more   dangerous.   keen   thought   flashes   the   vestiges   of   her   gaze,   and   she   laughs   -   low   and   rich   and   velvety.   

ㅤㅤㅤ❝   ⸻   nonsense.   ❞      she   intonates,   taking   a   slow   drag   of   a   the   cigarette   in   hand   while   long   legs   cross   at   the   knee,   ❝   i   just   turned   a   page   in   your   very   interesting   story   is   all.   everything   else   has   been   improv,   you   know   ?   besides   -   ❞   that   gaze   flickers   again,   the   shrewdness   of   a   woman   devoid   of   fear,   of   love,   ❝   you're   my   brightest   star.   it's   been   a   privilege   to   watch   you   glow...   want   a   cigarette   ?   ❞

Perhaps he'd deserved it this time. After all, for someone who hadn't really been outside of the Xianzhou, running off on a new planet probably wasn't a good idea. So when he was pulled back by her, he let out a sigh but stopped his movements. Of course, it didn't stop him from pouting.

"You know, I think I'm capable enough to take care of myself." He said, crossing his arms. "I've taken out monsters before. I was trained by General Jing Yuan himself. I don't think there's much that can keep up in a fight with me." Still, he didn't move and instead changed the subject before he could end up being scolded for his reckless behavior. "Where are we supposed to be going anyways?"

March is all but dragging her cherished companion into the store, refusing to accept any argument the Trailblazer may have against March’s impulsive actions.

  Once inside, March piles Stelle up with more than just the dress, adding numerous shirts, skirts, and accessories to really pull each outfit together.

“there are just too many people depending on me. i can’t rest. i can’t let them down.”

assessing eyes took stelle in, the stress seemed to be getting to her, but kafka knew that was inevitable. however, she didn’t think it would hit stelle this soon. there is so much still to come, each journey will only get harder and harder. if she’s having trouble now…it would only get worse. perhaps stelle needed one of kafka’s so called motivational speeches. she gave a low hum, “i suppose that’s the price you pay for being everyone’s hero. but hey, if you can’t handle it the alternative would be to simply give up.” kafka let out a dramatic sigh. “of course that would mean all of my hard work would have gone to waste. not to mention you’d be sending everyone you care about and people you have yet to meet to their impending doom.” a knowing smile graced her face. “i know you though, perhaps more than you even know yourself currently, and you won’t give up. which is why you’re on this path to begin with.”

there was a certain level of gentleness within kafka that only stelle could pull out of her. even now when they’re supposed to be on opposing sides. her lifeless eyes seemed to soften. “you don’t have to worry about a thing.i’m taking care of everything behind the scenes to make sure everything goes smoothly. that’s all i can really tell you, but i hope it’s enough to calm you somewhat. amuse me though, will you? what, exactly, has you so worked up? and why come to me about it, are your fellow crew members giving you trouble?”

      an head full of messy indigo locks turns when he hears her voice, not the slightest bit surprised. from what he observed, Stelle seemed to be a poor sleeper━ perhaps an insomniac, perhaps simply a poor sleeper. the small hint of frustration in her voice makes him perk up.

      “ that's just what the goethe grand hotel does to you, ” he reassures the sleepless trailblazer with a sympathetic sigh. “ the beds in here are atrocious! i'd rather give you the advice to sleep on a plank━ not that Goethe isn't a sweet woman, mind me, ” Sampo backtracks, hands raised in front of his chest to shield himself. “ i bet it's hard for her to keep the hotel all by herself━ still, i'd rather... ”

      his trademark sheepish laugh dies down as he looks over at her again.

      “ or... perhaps that's not the problem, yes? somethin' keeping you up━ something troubling? ” there's genuine curiosity in his voice, lowering his pitch so they may go unheard.

      “ now, come walk with me a while━ nothing better than this to clear your head, and you can tell your friend Sampo on the way! perhaps i might even be able to help, who knows? ”

the humility shown by his friend is a staple of all of the nameless he has met in his lifetime, and it keeps the smile alight on his face to see how kind stelle remains even when presented with a wish from the general of the luofu. granting a wish for his friend would be of little trouble on his part so long as it is doable. even so, jing yuan does not push the matter. a gift should not be forced, nor does he desire to create more work for himself when it is unwanted.

"very well, but i will not count walking the streets of aurum alley with you as a wish. should you ever change your mind, you are free to walk through the doors of the seat of divine foresight and merely ask for what you want. now, as for recommendations, i have plenty. the work you have done to revitalize the alley has brought back many restaurant owners and street vendors who onced set up shop many years ago, and it pleases me greatly to see their food is just as mouth watering as i remembered. would you prefer to seat for a meal, or would you prefer to sample their many delights as we take a stroll?"

            𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐄'𝐒  𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐄  𝐖𝐀𝐒  𝐏𝐀𝐋𝐏𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄.  The  Trailblazer  didn't  go  out  of  her  way  to  seek  recognition  and  reward  for  her  deeds;  and  yet  she  could  not  deny  the  general's  generosity.  The  problem  was,  however,  that  Stelle  had  absolutely  no  idea  what  she  would  even  wish  for.

            ❝   I  —  really?  You  sure?  I  mean  —  thank  you,  General.  That's  kind  of  you  to  offer.  But  there  isn't  really  anything  I  want,  if  I'm  being  honest.   ❞  At  least  nothing  that  Jing  Yuan  could  feasibly  provide.  The  only  thing  she  really  wanted,  like  March,  was  to  remember  the  things  she  no  longer  did;  the  things  Kafka  erased.  But  even  Fu  Xuan,  the  Master  Diviner  of  the  Luofu,  couldn't  extrapolate  anything  from  the  Matrix  of  Prescience  beyond  what  Kafka  had  already  revealed.

            Part  of  the  puzzle  was  still  missing,  and  that  was  something  Stelle  would  have  to  fill  in  on  her  own.

            ❝   But...  I  guess  I  could  go  for  a  hot  meal?  I  spent  so  much  time  helping  out  at  Aurum  Alley  that  I  didn't  really  get  to  sit  down  and  enjoy  most  of  the  foods  offered.  Do�� you  have  any  recommendations?   ❞

Some sad news to share, friends - Leiji Matsumoto, the iconic creator of Space Battleship Yamato (aka Starblazers), Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, and many more, has passed away at the age of 85. A manga artist since the 50s who originally got his start in shoujo manga, Matsumoto’s works were a cornerstone of early anime fandom. American sci-fi fans of the 70s may not have known the terms “anime”, “manga”, or “cosplay”, but they knew and loved Matsumoto’s work, which was many fan’s first exposure to anime back in the day. One of the first recorded “cosplay” gatherings in the US was of fans dressed as mostly Leiji Matsumoto characters!

In other parts of the world, they also fell in love with Matsumoto’s work: as in France, where Harlock was known as Albator, and won the hearts of many fans. So much so that Matsumoto won many prestigious awards there, and would eventually be knighted in 2012 by the French government. French electronic duo Daft Punk was highly influenced by his work, and in 2001 collaborated with Matsumoto to release anime music videos (and eventually a feature-length film version called Interstella 555).

Modern anime & manga owe much to his work, as he was THE pioneer of space opera and what he liked to call “boy’s romance” stories--”romance” in the literarily sense--full of angst, heroism, and fighting for independence while celebrating nature, brotherhood, and friendship. He helped many people learn to never give up on themselves and their dreams, no matter how fantastical they may seem.

May his spirit travel on, in a new adventure in the endless sea of stars.
