an apology and update! for all you beautiful people - 2 for the price of 1

hello! over the months i've written and deleted this letter because i was too much of a coward to show my face after i left. i contemplated if it would be adequate enough, if it even matters. At the end, i owe this fandom too much, so here it is:

THE APOLOGY

i am truly sorry. there's no better way of putting it.

the more i create the more i realise how this fandom held my hand and i simply wouldn't be the person i am now if this blog never existed. i've always struggled with sharing art and writing online, as i thought it was too lame and took the coward route of keeping it to myself and my closest friends.

ever since this blog, i've found that less of an issue. the more i think about how much i let you and myself down by disappearing the more i feel the shame weigh me down. i never wanted to leave, but life has this funny way of forcing your hand when you least expect it.

without getting too personal, this year hasn't been great for me or anyone close to me - friendships died, family members were hospitalised, university crushed me, expectations from everyone around me made me question if i'm failing in every aspect of my life, i lost passions like art - something i've always thought of as my dream career, and i fear the stress will only grow rather than die down.

in some of those harder moments i would always turn to a distraction, create something for a fandom i enjoy to get my mind off things. to see your comments and your messages always kept me going even when i physically couldn't take the stress of everything around me anymore. being busy made my flame for F1 dwindle, too. it's one of the main reasons i didn't return earlier. I've missed half the races this year, yes that includes both lando and oscar's wins, and although im looking forward to the summer break ending and the racecs coming back, i don't think the enthusiasm will ever return to the way it was when this blog was at its peak.

i feel like a coward for disappearing and it's a big regret of mine this year. i can't promise to write for F1 again, but what i've made will always be archieved here :)

THE UPDATE

not great. i can't even lie i'm not doing too hot right now. i promised i would return to writing when things finally calmed down and yet the more stress there was the more one off projects i made to combat it. throughout the months i've accumulated a lot of side projects for different fandoms like star wars, star trek, dc, merlin and lesser known fandoms such as heavy rain, mortal kombat, the sims (no seriously have you seen the lore) etc. that i have nowhere to post. in april i decided i can't afford (literally) to distract myself with any hobby projects for the sake of my situation and thus... i was an idiot and i deleted my ao3 account. there weren't that many stories on there anyway, but i regret it even if it was the right decision.

i owe @wtfisakilometer2 so much for telling me that the people who love the blog wouldn't mind what fandom it is as long as it's by me, even if i don't fully believe it. it did open my eyes to finally write this, though, so direct all your love to her.

so that leaves me here, sort of homeless on my own blog and with very conflicting feelings about it's direction. i intend to preserve it as an archive of my F1 writing without messing with it, but still let you know about my new ao3 and everything on it so i can keep both our interests in mind.

BIRTH BY SLEEP, BEYOND THE DOOR

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, possibly even far more so than Kingdom Hearts III, is a game I dearly love and vehemently hate at the same time. Yes, its story is overall a poorly written, shamelessly unimaginative Star Wars Episode III ripoff, and the elements that got introduced into KH lore in this game are what just ate away at the series narrative and its universe for the next decade until there was nary a thing resembling what KH had began as remaining. I hate it.

What I still love it for is how dang good and effective the stupid Star Wars prequel story ended up being in execution as a prequel to the pre-existing KH Trinity, far more than it had any right to be, and we really have Daisuke Watanabe as largely to thank for this being so. The execution is so solid that it always gets me wishing to just leave the BBS-introduced characters and details where they fell by the end of the main story and let the prequel just be a nice, tidy prequel. And even among the game makers, I think this was the desire of some.

Big example of what I mean: back in 2007, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix Edition came out and truly, properly introduced the armored characters seen in KHII's secret ending as characters in the series lore. In fact, it added two more so there were now five characters we knew to have existed in what ended up revealed as the time period before the events of the KH Trinity - Terra, Aqua, Ventus, Vanitas, and Master Xehanort. Those are the key players in this footage.

Ultimately, they all needed to meet their fates. And y'know that one tune that plays in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy whenever the main villain (Ras Al Ghul, Joker, and Talia Al Ghul + League of Shadows people RIP Bane) faces their ultimate defeat? BBS opted to do something similar with the OST track titled "Beyond The Door."

When we see Terra's fate at the end of his story:

When we see Ventus and Vantias' fates at the end of Ven's story:

And when we see Aqua's fate in the Final Episode:

So Terra, Ventus, Vanitas, and Aqua got sent off set to this same musical theme. Who does that leave us? Oh yeah, Xehanort! At the end of the game, as seen in that video, he's still inhabiting Terra's heart and so Terra's body is still his, but he's lost all memory of who he even was save for the name "Xehanort", in essence having to start his existence over as a new person. And that's where the game leaves him. Because he's the one character where we already knew what his fate would be, as he goes on to become the overarching villain of the KH Trinity and the true Big Bad in KH1, whose turn into a Heartless birthed his Nobody, Xemnas. And when his time comes?

Xehanort - THIS Xehanort - had his fate sealed in the first game, and adding the demise of Xemnas to the equation gives us the last thread of the BBS prequel narrative being definitively wrapped as of KHII. And to me, no amount of effort to cheat fate on Nomura's Xehanort's end could ever be more compelling and satisfying than that.

i will apologize for not having a movie review recommendation for you though:(((((((((((( i literally get all that i need from my letterboxd mutuals (i trust them with my life) i have found the people who have the same taste as me and i know that when the majority of them like a movie - i will like it. a "real film critic" could say that it's shit but when the people of letterboxd say it's five stars i fucking know it's five stars ok

i haven't been on a movie review channel/person search in a while but last i was i realized that so many of them are rather technical and that's boring..... so i really do trust letterboxd more. of course, there are a lot of just one-liners (i literally do that too) but there are people who write long and deep reviews and those feel so much more personal and give more insights than the ones i've seen floating around the internet.

FOR MOVIE ANALYSIS my favourite channel is lessons from the screenplay!!!!!! i've been watching his videos for ever ever and ever and i love them so much!!1! he has taught me so much, especially when i was just getting more into films!!! so i went to my little playlist of videos and i picked up some about my all time favourite films!!

inglourious basterds - the elements of suspense; my god, do i love this movie....... this is a yearly watch for me, i've memorized the lines and all. the performances are great, the soundtrack is amazing, it's so fucking funny??? and i'm now also realizing how much of a filmbro i'm actually coming off as but do i care? not at all. i love this movie.

annihilation - the art of self-destruction; okay i mentioned this already but i'm doing it again!!!!!!! it's such a fucking experience i really actually hope you'll watch it one day (and that you'll tell me your thoughts) this is also like a life-changer of a movie in my opinion, i often just randomly start thinking about it; the visuals, the insanity of it aaaaahhhh.

blade runner 2049 (2017) - a film about a replicant/an android detective who finds out that another replicant had a child many years ago (replicants cannot have children) and he's now convinced that he is said child this is sci-fi with some action and blood but it's not scary plus points for the insane visuals and the soundtrack 9/10 minus point for it being kind of slow paced?

the nice guys (2016) - a film about two private detectives; one of them is almost cool and the other one is so pathetic i love him so much this is a comedy so 10/10

the man from uncle (2015) - a film about spies spying on each other, it's so fun (the soundtrack is good but we knew that already didn't we smh) 9/10 minus point for armie hammer the cannibal

Bearnelli: a lot of potential, because 1. they are two very young drivers rumored to be in f1 soon 2. bonus from the Merc and Ferrari being two championship-winning teams; 3. and their nationalities being opposite to where their teams are associated w/…?

So they could have spotlights, narratives, etc. ship-making materials despite them having very very limited past interactions to the point that I feel like they barely knew each other. I‘m blasé about their 2021 first encounter, but it was interesting to know that Kimi could have ended up being in VAR in 2021 if not for Merc's final decision (there's the fated) There are probably tempting templates to fit like lestp (enemies to lovers? long-lasting rivalry?), ldscar (the twin rising stars, team vid-based chemistry), etc. but saying they are like some existing ship/trope doesn't really compel me, and they have a long way to go (esp. with how Toto's acting recently pt.1 & 2 might not stand lol).

But I think they are taking baby steps to warm up to each other - Ollie's practicing Italian and being friendly, but Kimi still appears mostly confused when Ollie talks to him or makes a joke (e.g. when Ollie said 'I don't like you' then 'I love you' during the pre-season testing LAP; the 'down under' in the Australia LAP) and has a hard concentration face on, brows furrowed, licking his lips, while Ollie's leaning down and gesturing, during the rare occasions we actually caught a glimpse of them talking to each other outside of a challenge video.

Ollie also seems to have a little clique with his past f2/f3 peers, hence we see Kimi liking Ollie's f1 debut feat while Ollie was liking Paul's post about his sprint race being ruined by other people (Kimi)'s mess - this compels me, I'd love to see more explorations of the toxicity of the junior feeder series rather than them being good friends or whatever sweet innocent thing because f2 is a hunger game

Now to aronelli:

This is being put to the dead ship montage - I think Prema used to pair them together because they were Merc juniors and Paul was probably tryna be good (maybe even Dino and Ollie ferrari gang adjacent) friends with Kimi also because of that. But with the way Merc handled their juniors, Paul is probably an adamant merc and thereby Kimi hater now. his series of on-track and social media actions against Kimi was fun to spectate. Lack of response from Kimi so far but whether they interact/collide or not in the future there were already enough materials for me to webweave smth so lol…

I do hope that Paul gets picked up by an f1 team soon I would like to see how his grudges develop and if on the slim chance that they all end up in f1 one day are they gonna be good mates again, etc.

Pairing: barbatos x gn!reader/mc (pre-relationship, implied romantic) Genre: fluff, sfw Warnings: n/a Word Count: ~650 Notes: i wrote this in the one hour it took my bread to rise so it is very themed around watching too many baking vids at 3am

When Barbatos came knocking at Purgatory Hall’s door at midnight, he wasn’t expecting you to answer. Likewise, you didn’t expect to see him outside the castle at such a late hour. You blinked at him a few times, both in surprise and to try and shake off some of the grogginess that came with being startled awake.

“Oh uh, hi Barbatos. What brings you here?”

“I might ask the same of you - why are you not at the House of Lamentation?”

Before you could reply, a gentle whirring noise came from inside. Barbatos glanced past the door and saw Luke fast asleep on the couch, the source of the sound a Deviltube video playing in front of him.

Your eyes followed Barbatos’s gaze as you answered. “Luke was having some nightmares, so Simeon asked if I could come over and help comfort him. We ended up watching some cooking ASMR videos.” You smiled sheepishly. “I guess we both fell asleep to them.”

“Well then, it appears we are here for the same reason. I apologize for not being here sooner - I had to finish my duties to Lord Diavolo first. May I offer my assistance at this point in time?”

 The two of you carried Luke back to his room and tucked him in, saying your goodbyes to Simeon and turning off the TV on your way out. Before you could say farewell to Barbatos, he requested to walk you home, citing the time of day as a safety concern. After some protesting that he should rest sooner rather than later, you gave in and accepted his escort.

There was a comfortable silence as you walked. A warm breeze blew past every so often, and despite the Devildom’s strange weather, it felt like a perfect summer night. Perhaps it was the lateness of the hour, or maybe the summer vibes, but something emboldened you to reach for Barbatos’s hand. Your pinky brushed against his, the direct contact making you hesitate until you felt his finger curl around yours. The only evidence that he knew what he was doing was the faint blush dusting his cheeks. The two of you walked like that for a while, neither commenting on your now linked pinkies. 

Barbatos was the first to break the silence. “Do you often watch those kinds of videos?”

“You mean the cooking ASMR ones?”

He nodded.

“Sometimes, I guess. They’re really calming, and the recipes are pretty good when I feel like trying them myself.”

A small smile graced Barbatos’s lips. “If you would like, we could try one of the recipes together sometime. Or, if you would prefer to stand by, I would be happy to have you in the kitchen just watching and listening. Your own personal ASMR, if you will.”

You felt your cheeks flush, and not from the summer heat. “Yeah, I... I’d like that. Oh! We could start with the video I was just watching! They were making these really pretty tea macarons and I know how much you like macarons and - ” 

You stopped short as Barbatos’s laughter bubbled up. “I’m sure we will find the time to try as many recipes as you’d like. However, for the moment you should probably head inside.” He gestured at the open door in front of you.

“Oh. Right.” In your excitement you’d failed to notice that you’d unlocked the door the moment you arrived, the motion routine enough to be stamped into your subconscious. If it were possible for your cheeks to get hotter, they probably would’ve. “Thanks for walking me back. I’ll text you later to see when you’re free?”

“I shall look forward to it. Macarons sound delightful.” Barbatos bowed slightly. “Goodnight, MC.”

“Goodnight, Barbatos.”

As you closed the door you heard Beel rooting around in the kitchen. His head poked over the fridge door as you walked past. “Was that Barbatos? Did I hear you talking about macarons?”

You simply smiled as you headed to bed, anticipating dreams as sweet as the desserts you would bake with Barbatos.

After much deliberation, they've figured out that you've found a boyfriend, but despite repeated attempts they've yet to find out who it is. Still, they won't give up until they've discovered once and for all: who does the prefect like?

“Why are we keeping our relationship a secret again?” Trey asked during lunch.

“Look at how funny this is though,” you replied, gesturing at the table of your first-year peers. “They have no clue. Last I heard from Cater, they think I’m dating Riddle.”

Trey sighed. The sight of your friends huddled around a table whispering furiously about their suspicions was admittedly somewhat funny, but still... “Doesn’t it bother you?”

“What, that they think I’m dating someone else? Only if other people actually believed them.” Trey gave you a look. “Ok fine,” you relented. “I’ll tell them. But only if they ask.”

Trey sighed again and planted a small kiss on your forehead. “Fine. At least tell them it’s not Riddle before he has their heads for it.”

Meanwhile, at your usual table, the group was hatching up a plan. They’d narrowed it down to someone from Heartslabyul, so it was up to Ace and Deuce to lead. Despite the failure of their previous tries, this time they were certain they’d find out for sure.

Abroad in Japan Chris' dry sense of humour has me rolling! 🤣🤣 Thoroughly enjoy his Journey Across Japan vids with mates Natsuki and Connor (CDawgVA) and all their shenanigans traversing the country. He's so entertaining and always enjoy learning more about Japan. Speaking of Connor...

CDawgVA Another hilarious Youtuber based in Japan! Originally started watching him for his insanely side-splitting and impressive Anime impressions (namely Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler or Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan) and even though he no longer uploads that sorta content I don't think (?), all his other series are just as enjoyable! Whether it's crane games, trying every [insert food/drink] in Japan, or Whacky Weekend collabing with Chris Abroad or anyone really, he's just so much fun to watch.

Saberspark Saber reviews animation of just about every kind. Think he was more into just obscure adult cartoons in the past, but has since gotten into all sorts, from popular to unknown to forgotten to insanely bizarre. He puts a lot of effort into his research; looking into a show/movies' history, the company that animated it, the people behind it, and all matter of juicy titbits in its regard, all in all while reviewing it fairly yet still in an entertaining manner.

Love2DrawManga Such an adorable, cosy channel! Love watching Bekah's art vids and how soft spoken she is. Her style is beautiful and the amount of love she gives to her OCs is so heart-warming.

C. C. Creations I don't know what I would do without CC's spoiler vids for Star Stable Online! She's really saved my @$$ Star Coins a bunch of times by sharing what's to come in the game.

it's a sitcom thing(?) starring Lester! the single dad(?), his tiny girl-child-bestie(?), and his weird-ass relatives who barge into his life being all "you haven't come to thanksgiving dinner" except they all seem be calling him by the nickname of a greek god?? wut??

old-fashioned laugh track comedy with annoying cousins, an annoying sister, the mother who lives far away, a creepy stepmother and a deadbeat bio dad plus the really weird aunts and uncles (it's a whole extended family extravaganza)

obviously the fic would be 9 chapters long (imitating Wandavision), and the Big Bad would be revealed as the lil garden snake (it's Python, the dick) who turned out to have trapped a god in an illusion world and was feeding him the fantasy that he wasn't a god who had colossally messed up with people he loved

(HOLY SHIT APOLLO IS PROBABLY DATING HYACINTHUS IN THIS HYPOTHETICAL SHOW) (tv show logic says he got divorced w/Daphne?) (of course they're both illusions with whom Apollo gets to have some heartfelt conversations and closure)

this is where the question of Who Is Real in this Dreamscape World arises: is Meg real? is Will? the other kids? (I think the gods might be fake, except for Artemis, who may have come to check on him when he went incognito?)
