IMO Gale is nasty to Katniss on multiple occasions and acts controlling of her relationships—from his discomfort that she’s become close to Peeta and Haymitch in CF to being pissed about her friendship with Finnick in MJ. I don’t like it, and I don’t think his anger against the Capitol justifies treating his supposed best friend the way he treats Katniss.

Peeta is the Nice Guy stereotype. Nice Guy EXPECTS the girl to reciprocate because poor him he waited so long for her. It works on teen girl fandoms every time. He doesn’t deserve anything.

Yeah, which is why I don't buy it I guess... If only I was part of that teen girl demographic. Lol. You know I have no problem with the Nice Guy stereotype, but he shouldn't deserve her just because he's nice and waited 11 years for her. No, there needs to be some effort there.

Personally I think Gale is also sort of a Nice Guy who is waiting for her... but instead he does everything he can to show her how important she is to him, even if it means doing something he doesn't agree with. To me, even though he's only waited about a year for her to return his feelings, that is more deserving of her affection.

In the first book it’s less noticeable, to be sure—but then Gale has only two scenes in the first book. I know you haven’t read the third book, but I do have to wonder if you would still ship Everthorne after that. This is the book where we see Gale most, but most of his interactions with Katniss are unpleasant (and IMO he is kind of a jerk towards her).

I ship Everthorne mostly because of the way Mockingjay went, lol.

Haha, good to know! I have a feeling I will be the same. I tend to love relationships that are doomed from the beginning.
