Monsta-X
I was looking up pics of Monsta-X for wallpaper and it made me further realize that I don’t want them to be like BTS. People in American are quick to judge others, especially if they listen to music from East Asia. So far there hasn’t been any bad things or hate towards Monsta-X, which I’m thankful for, but I’d just like them to be successful in Korea. I mean, why do kpop groups have to be successful in America when a lot of Americans could care less. It’s just fans that want to be noticed for liking a different kind of music because we always get shit for it. Figure if the genre becomes popular in the states the hate will stop. But it won’t. BTS has been in the states long enough to handle themselves but Monsta-X isn’t. Monsta-X are very sensitive boys, I don’t want some hate comment to really get to them and make them think they aren’t good enough to break into the U.S. Honestly, that doesn’t matter to me. They are popular in Korea and that’s what matters right? I know they don’t want to take a break but their health is important and besides, Starship should work harder to promote Boyfriend. I’m afraid they will disband. No new kpop fans really know who Boyfriend is. Boyfriend deserves to be loved like when they first debuted. Being in Starship’s basement isn’t fun.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s cool that Monsta-X, Got7 and BlackPink can be interviewed by news shows. I think it’s cool that Momoland and ATEEZ can be on FBE and that NCT, Exid, Suju, Tiffany and even BTS can be on Buzzfeed Celeb. I think cool that BlackPink, NU’EST, iKON, Got7, Monsta-X and SF9 got interviews with Billboard it’s awesome that Tiffany, Sunmi, SF9, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, NCT, Monsta-X, Epik High, Astro, BlackPink and VAV get to have world tours or North American tours because a lot of these groups are underrated and hopefully a world tour might show Koreans and Korean fans how awesome these groups are; but I think groups like BlackPink, Got7 and Monsta-X need to stay in Korea. It might sound racist or selfish but I honestly don’t want such amazing groups to get torn down by the harsh and hateful comments of Americans. I think kpop is awesome but I think artists need to focus on themselves and their Korean fans. I think kpop, for the most part needs to stay in Korea and I think BTS needs to bring it back down to Earth lmao.
It’s a lot of stress on the idols, the more popular they are the busier they will be. Look at BTS: they haven’t have a proper break since the YNWA album came out. Comebacks and tours are back to back, you can tell they are tired. I’m not a fan anymore but I feel bad for them, their health could be declining and nobody would even know. I mean, BTS really trying to collab with every American artist when most of them are trash. Steve Aoki is the only good collab BTS ever did. And on top of the whole BTS thing, TXT was signed to an American label like, yes they are under Bighit and they’re already big in Korea but they are children. I honestly don’t want them to ever promote in the U.S. It might be too much and they’ll probably get hate cause “they aren’t BTS” and they’re kids. It’s really unnecessary for Bighit to do that imo. Just promote them in Korea and Japan. If they start promoting in the states that could go so horribly. First of all, they are actual children. They are young and have no idea how American react to kpop and they don’t need to be doing all this ridiculous American debuts and such because their tiny bodies will get worn down and it’s not far on them. It’s not far that they just debut and Bighit just wants to make money off of them. It’s too much for them to handle. I don’t want them to get hurt. Just like I don’t want Monsta-X to get hurt.
Anyway, before I lose my already derailed train of thought, I think it’s cool that all these groups are breaking out into the U.S and slaying every country but I think they all need to slow their rolls. Honestly at this point BTS is more of American artists than Korean artists. They’re practically living over here, they keep attending American award shows. It’s ridiculous. And a lot of fans of kpop nowadays just know those groups listed above because that’s all anyone ever talks about. It’s..its..like..stan underrated groups, they work so hard and get no recognition or anything. It break my multi-stanning ass’s heart.
I love Monsta-X, BlackPink, Twice, Got7, Exo, Red Velvet, and NCT but those aren’t the only groups. Those are just the most popular in Korea and the states and prolly to rest of the world and because of this there’s literally 5 people each supporting these smaller groups.
Getting off track I liked the golden age of kpop better. Groups like Infinite, Brown Eyed Girls, Big Bang, 2NE1, Shinee, KARA, TARA, Sistar, MBLAQ, 2PM, Miss A, Wonder Girls, 9Muses and ZE:A. That’s where it was at people. Just a few non Korean fans, no fan wars, at least no as bad as rn, no salty fans complaining about collars between Shinee and Fx or Big Bang and Wonder Girls, no scandals, no hate, idols could date and not get hate cause it was in secret, idols could interact with each other on music shows and there was no “omg they must be dating” rumors. It was all pure fun and just people of the same age having fun and being close because they were all lit adults who were in the music industry together.
I guess I should like an old woman complaining about the better days huh? I like so many groups, even the ones of today but the older days were better. There’s just too much going on rn. I guess that’s why I’m into underrated groups now because the small fandoms and they’re no fights or hate and it’s calming. I stan so many groups. I feel old. Stan LC9

I NEVER FINISHED MY STORY OMG. ok so i left off at being too proud to tell my friend she was right and kpop fucked hard. the difference between u and me is that i’m too good of a liar. too good. i kept up the “i hate kpop it’s cringe” facade for ALMOST TWO WHOLE YEARS, I SHIT YOU NOT. why? bc my dumb ass, extra ass, dramatic ass self thought “ok if i’m gonna have to deal with the embarrassment of admitting i’m wrong, i better do it in such an extra ass way it’ll knock ur socks off so hard that YOULL be the one embarrassed not me.” the original plan was to learn the entire choreography to bts dope, bc it’s the song that she told me to listen to and inevitably the song that got me into them, but later switched to bts fire bc i saw too many of those “choreo matches w any song” videos, and then her birthday party came up. and here’s the real kicker. her birthday is April Motherfuckin Fools. so it would be So Perfect for me to reveal my kpopism as a birthday present And a april fools prank in one. so i was Set on the Reveal being on april 1st, but the day rolls around and god that choreo is so fucking hard and i am Not a dancer. never have been. so i abandon that and go ykno what… i’ll do it Next Year. BC MY BITCHASS WAS LIKE NO THE MOMENT IS TOO PERFECT TO DO IT ON A NORMAL ASS DAY ITS GONNA BE ON APRIL FOOLS ON HER GODDAMN BIRTHDAY OR NOT AT ALL. a year rolls by, i’ve told most of our friends except her and they’re all in on it, i’d made so many subtle kpop references to her without her realising they were fully intentional and had too many scares where she almost figured me out but i lied my way out of it, and i’d given up on showing off with choreography bc i couldn’t make that shit look good. i’m not a dancer. i am, however, a rapper, and a damn good one, so i inhaled the agust d mixtape and decided i’d just rap the eminem of kpop’s anthem at her face. in korean. and change the lyrics at the end (if u haven’t listened to agust d, the bridge repeats “i’m sorry” a lot) to “i’m sorry i kept this from u for so long” and “i’m sorry i actually ult got7 not bts” (this was like the april after skz debuted ok i was holding onto got7 for dear life knowing full well skz we’re going to convert me smh) and the best part? she never saw it coming. her official present was a cd with a bunch of kpop on it but she thought it was just a personalised mixtape for her so i told her to play the first song out loud and she knew the song Instantly. it has a long intro so she was like “i guess u did listen when i recommended u this song!! i knew you’d like it since u like rap so much!!” and then i started rapping and i shit u not. she started SCREAMING. like the initial reaction was her jaw dropping and then instinctively covering her mouth but when i kept going and she realised i wasn’t fucking around she just fucking screamed like a banshee. at the end during the sorry bit i threw off my jacket to reveal a got7 shirt on the inside and she fell off her chair and started rolling around on the floor. needless to say it was every bit as satisfying as i thought it’d be LMAOOOO afterwards her ass was like “I CANT BELIEVE U HID THIS FROM ME FOR OVER A YEAR” and when i tried to explain my ego couldn’t take the “i told u so” she was like “you know i wouldn’t have made fun of you for it right? i would just be glad you’re not hating on my boys anymore” so basically i’m a big dramatic fool and she was always too good for me.
don’t mind the weird spaces here my ipad is being all fucky wucky w me rn. damn sad to hear ur sideblog experience didn’t go so well, i’d have shown u the cool side of the fandom if i knew 😤😤 leading u thru the cursed halls of kpop stan tumblr like a sketchy tour guide that’s actually 3 small raccoons stacked on top of each other like a trench coat, like “over here we have the fanfic writers that honestly need to publish a book, over here we have the gif makers that are responsible for my entire camera roll, if we take a quick swerve past the death threat anons and the twt fanwar screenshots - mind ur feet bub the 14 year olds were tryna make a grab for ur ankles - ah here’s the holy grail of shitposts, you might be here for hours, to the right we have the weird aussie side of the fandom that projects our childhoods onto chanlix but also all the members as we decide what their life in australia would’ve been like, and down there is a secret trapdoor to the blogs w endless random headcanons that will make you laugh, cry or blush depending on if the author woke up and decided to choose violence today. enjoy your Stay!” but then again i’m not so active on tumblr anymore (ngl you’ve become the highlight of my tumblr experience these days, interaction wise,) so maybe all my Local Hotspots are inactive now. i know a bunch of them are, it’s sad. “i don’t fw stan twitter for the same reason i don’t hang out in meth dens” oop. guess i’m a meth addict. no but i get u i rly do, it’s a hellhole out there, but the fact that things get shared and spread a lot easier than on tumblr and how short most things have to be (therefor keeping up w my adhd attention span without having to resort to the mental torture that is tiktok, with the added bonus of not always needing headphones.) that i just. couldn’t leave if i tried. maybe i should try being active on tumblr again but it’s a dying site in comparison.
“their music doesn’t consistently hit for me as much as skz” i’m sorry we can’t be friends anymore. what. what. you don’t dramama ramama ramama hey? you don’t feel a little jealousyyyyyy, naega anin? you don’t shoot out, shoot out, shoot out, or aremdaeun love killa love killa? you can’t be your hero du du du du du du du du du dududu? u disappoint me. literally like everyone i know who likes skz music likes mx music like it’s a rite of Passage. they’re kindred spirits, monsta x music is like skz’s music’s cool but mildly heterosexual older brother. neither of them know what a bad song is it runs in the family. and both their music runs in my VEINS. whenever i describe my music taste they’re always the first two that come to mind, skz being my number 1 bc they are my best boys but mx bc of the Flavour. pls listen to the entire the code album then get back to me 😤🙌 ok but fr ur so right they are 7 of the finest men i ever seen (yes i say 7 bc i’m including wonho cause he deserved better and i’ll die on my ot7 bullshit.) like don’t get me started on them either LOL i LITERALLY downloaded that one insta video of changkyun working out his back n arm muscles w his tattoo showing bc i needed that shit saved for Science. they could do Anything w me like frfr. yes vixx is the bdsm contract group i’m telling ya they wildin. or at least they were. it’s been years since their last comeback idk what they’re doing anymore tbh. and yeah that makes sense, savouring the hyperfixation i feel it, but also i’m so attached to skz that i never let it die. like i hyperfixate on other things and other groups but i will Always go back to skz cause they’re my homeboys. hell, they’re my home. being a predebut stay i’ve spent more time w skz than most of my actual family members at this point. but that’s just me you do u boo xx just know that if ur anything like me ur never letting go once skz it’s been my longest lasting fixation cause they hit like Nothing Else Do. ik i’ve already said that but i cannot stress it enough. they’re really special. i’m gonna stop here before i get all sappy and emotional bc i really love those boys so fucking much and i don’t drop the L bomb often. SIDE NOTE I WOULD LIKE TO SEE UR LIST OF GROUPS RANKED BY THORSt. i need to judge ur Taste. and omg cat&dog is such a guilty pleasure song bc the lyrics make me cringe so much bc while pet play can be fun they be doing it in more of an “i’m an innocent soft dogboy uwu” kinda way that just Does Not Sit Right with me. it comes back to the objectifying of asians that asians themselves don’t help in industries like these and maybe i’m looking too far into it when rly it is just wholesome n cute or maybe they are into some pet play shit idk idc i will bop to the song regardless but i will not acknowledge the lyrics nope.
YOURE RIGHT THO SKZ’S OPENNESS IS IN FACT, A BIG DEAL, i’ll grab them for u if u want but i found these twt threads of skz supporting the lgbt community and i just felt a special kind of happiness man like sure the delusional part of me likes going “haha they’re gay” bc my brain likes to imagine them as my polycule of mlm boyfriends bc sometimes thats what gives me the serotonin to get me thru the day ok don’t judge but also bc it’s nice knowing that yes i’ll never know them personally, but at least i can support them knowing they’d respect my gender identity and my pronouns, they’d respect who i choose to love, and that’s already more than the general public can say so shit, it is special! it’s special that they don’t treat being cishet like the norm - they constantly remove gender from their songs and speech entirely, they don’t assume all stays are female anymore, we don’t talk abt the babygirls incident cause we got babystays in the end outta that ok, and it’s just. so refreshing and important to me bc i can’t get that anywhere else!! like my semi ults are the boyz and while i love them very much and there’s no way all 11 of them are straight i refuse, i do get just a little bit sad whenever they she/her their fandom by default and call them their girlfriends n shit even tho i do still identify as a girl, i’m also genderfluid/nonbinary/transmasc, and i have a very love/hate relationship w my womanhood and rarely use she/her pronouns, cause it’s like, do you not see me? see us? the ones who aren’t cishet women? i mean i know kevin does bc he congratulated a fan who came out as nb but it’s just not the same as the openness we get w skz. like how do i trust cishets i could be supporting them as a queer person when in reality they’d call me a slur. what would i know, behind the screen? so it’s so good that skz go the extra mile to make it a safe space for everyone. this is already long enough i will reply to the second half of that ask in another message… tomorrow cause it’s 1am and i’m tired gn -felix bi anon
I'mma have to start putting these under a readmore so that i don't absolutely make everything who is still following me for some reason go totally fucking insane 😂
NDJDHWJJAHFNAKBSJSBFBHHDBDNAJD YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE FACES I WAS MAKING READING THIS, I WAS FUCKING CACKLING AND GASPING EVERY OTHER SENTENCE SO HARD THAT I SCARED THE CATS NDJWHSHSB the fact that you went "oh you want me to get into kpop? Give me a hot minute, and I'll give you a whole ass private concert for free" biduehsjdbd biiiiiiiiiiitch you're a fucking ICON, I stg I could NEVER 😂 (and not just because I couldn't find a tune if you gave me a printed set of Google maps directions and that I embody the steriotype that white people can't dance, like my sister kept sensing me tiktoks of the whole "dance like a white girl" trend going lmfao look it's you and eventually I was like "sis please this trend has me feeling like being white is a disability and these mothafuckers are being ableist 😭 also I could NEVER be that on beat so yall ain't even doin it right 😭😭😭😭"). Tbh if I told one of my friends (lol what friends, i got jokes) to get into Skz and they showed up at my bday and performed the entirety of I Got It I would simply shower them in money and go "aight everyone else go home, you are no longer needed, you are being laid off, your position has been eliminated, we're downsizing, the company is moving up and you're moving out, you are not qualified for this role any longer, best of luck with future endeavors" 😊
I think part of the reason I can't deal w Twitter is the exact reason I refuse to leave tumblr, in that I've been on tumblr since 2006 and twt since 2008, and tumblr literally has not changed at all, not even a little, whereas going from the early days of twt where there were no corporate sponsorships or ads and you had to manually copy and paste someone's tweet and @ them to retweet it, to how it is now, like 90% ads and showing me shit from the timelines of people I don't even fuckin follow n whatnot, it's just not enjoyable. Idk how anyone finds anything on twt, it confuses and frustrates me because I am old and have not adapted well to technology changing 😂 But arguably, the skz fanbase doesn't want me on skztwt anyways so like it works for both of us lmfaooo. I am old and cringey, and also still think of twt as stream of consciousness whereas tumblr is your teenage bedroom where you can decorate the walls with anything that interests you. I do really love the nonsensical kpoptwt shitposts tho fhshsbdjjss like it is a very specific flavor of mental instability that I enjoy immensely 😂 OH and also I initially misread part of that and thought you were saying you actually irl do meth and I was like 😳 WHAT DO I SAY TO THAT. HOW DO I HANDLE THIS. Like how do I express like "I wasn't being judgy of people who use substances cause I've been there but I was just being insensitive 😳" And then went back and reread it and was like WHEW, IM JUST AN ILLITERATE FOOL 😂😂😂😂 ejeywhdhrhjwbfbdjshdhdhd I spent like an hour bwign like "IS THE REASON WE GET ALONG BECAUSE THEY'RE ON METH???? WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS INFORMATION??????" hrhehshe I am literally a fuckin idiot it's fine
It's not that I don't fw them, it's more like... Okay so like there is no situation in which I am going to skip a skz song if it comes on shuffle. You will not ever catch me NOT in the mood to listen to Sunshine, if God's Menu comes on we are THROWIN the meager amount of booty meat I got hither and thither, I could be in the happiest mood of my life but if Ex comes on I will stop to SOB. And I'm not like that with most music, so mx just falls into the category of "there is a time and place." Idk why but it just doesn't forcibly grab hold of my heart and ass the way skz always does. I really don't WANT my skz fixation to ever end, but I know that eventually it'll stop giving me dopamine bevause my brain is my worst fucking enemy 🙃 like my arcana fixation is to date the longest running hyperfixation I've ever had, going on almost three years, and I used to not be able to spend every single second of every day thinking about Asra, but now... I just feel nothing when I look at arcana stuff. As you can probz tell by the fact that I hardly post arcana anymore 😂 So I know that eventually all my happiness will end, it always does, I can never stay just as obsessed with something as I was for long. I CANT SHARE THE LIST BECAUSE I DONT *HAVE* TASTE YET 😭 I'm basically just compiling a list of any group someone tells me I should look into, ranked by how strong the kitty purred upon googling pics of them 😂 My mom read my ass to FILTH over txt lmfao she was like "they're not that adorable. Maybe your standard for adorableness has gone down with You Know Who still on hiatus 🤔" bfjwhdhd like MOMMAAAAA THE LIBRARY IS CLOSED 😂 she attacks me any time I even hint at stanning other groups, she is a skz purist and stans skz only, unofficial Momma Stay of All Stays keeping me in check lmfao.
I feel like skz really do follow thru on their promise that they're a safe space for stays, it's nice to see that they hold space for anyone and everyone in their fanbase and do it in a really simple and elegant way, I feel. Like they never make it seem like "okay here are the fans and here are the token weirdos that were only recognizing to make a buck off of them" the way a lot of artists make it feel like 😑 like they don't go out of their way to act like it's some revolutionary act to do the bare minimum of not shitting on certain parts of the fandom, if that makes sense. They feel very "yeah, of course we love all our stays, this is a welcoming space for literally anyone, that's how it should be, that should be normal," instead of like "Hi fans we love you 😊 and special shoutout to you ell gee bee tee folk, make sure to buy my rainbow merch after the show!!!" you know? Like, they're the friends who would never make you feel weird or different for some shit, the friends that take the attention off you if something they know ur sensitive about comes up, instead of weirdly snapping at whoever brought the unfomfy thing up which ruins the mood and makes you feel tiwce as bad, yk? They just give off this vibe that they, and the space they create with their music, is just a genuine and chill place to be and hang out and relax and bond. I feel like they'd be the friend group that is so goofy and sweet and silly and accepting and lovely and always makes you feel loved and excited to be alive 🥺 They are all good noodles 🥺🥺🥺

How Bad Is Your Spotify?
Link
> Your spotify was drag-queen-brunch-sandals-resort-swim-up-bar-drag-race-reunion bad.
> Thank your obessions with Cher, Pitbull, and Adore Delano for that (that’s talent for ya).
> Based on your listening habits, I can also tell you your spotify was...
> twitter-fighting bad (figures its why I finally hoped on it again after 3 years)
> boomer bad (like pissing off boomers? cuz Im chill w that)
> tiger-beat bad
> low-cut-jean-pop bad
> moms-spaghetti bad
> Here’s what else is going on in your aural trash fire:
You listen to these tracks too much:
Pornstar Dancing by My Darkest Days
100 Ways by Jackson Wang
Heart of a Champion by Hollywood Undead
Monsters by All Time Low
NUNU NANA by Jessi
You stan these artists to an uncomfortable amount:
Hollywood Undead (100% talent)
BTS (100% x7 talent)
Duran Duran (godfathers of creative story-driven music videos)
Jay Park (tattooed titty popper singer/rapper/dancer)
Backstreet Boys (Talent)
You are 18% basic (yeah I’m a white chick named Jessica). Yeah, you’ve got some obscure artists like Blood On The Dance Floor, but your real top ones are ultra-mainstream like BTS (talent is talent, least its not Grande or Cardi)..
You’re stuck in the early 2010s (surprising since Spotify told me I was stuck in the 90s). You peaked right around Trouble Maker’s Chemistry (yeah that album was a fucking bop and they were literally the only het couple I shipped).
TLDR;

Are You On The Menu? - Chapter One
hi hi, so I’ve posted a new fic on A03, so here’s the link to read it there (otherwise i’m posting it below):
https://archiveofourown.org/works/18291323
also! I have a playlist for the story on spotify here:
https://open.spotify.com/user/missy325/playlist/1bXq1fWF8UciYpehSaITPa?si=yo0Ovd9rTnG6rhIvFPLNCg
anyways, here it is! I hope you like it:)
He’d finally did it. It took him years, but he’s finally here. After getting his business degree, moving to New York and revamping the building he bought, he- Eddie Kaspbrak- was finally opening his coffee shop. He couldn’t believe it. Eddie had spent so long dreaming of the day he would finally succeed and here he was.
Just yesterday was the grand opening day. It took loads of preparation to say the least. Bill, Eddie’s best friend and new barista, had told everyone at his old job about it. Eddie spent hours each day leading up to the opening to advertise it all over social media, making sure to mention the free donut with every purchase the first day. So, it was no surprise when after all of this build up to the big day, Eddie was a bit disappointed.
They did okay, that’s for sure. But nothing was quite right in his eyes. He forgot about the music. How could he forget about the music? There was a heavy silence every time someone left the shop, followed by Bill letting out an exaggerated yelp of happiness. No one knew how to clean up after themselves, so Eddie found himself running back and forth between the register and the tables to tidy up. The air didn’t seem quite right to him, either. He knew it sounded ridiculous to base his day off of the air- but it just didn’t smell right. It wasn’t the normal nostalgic air he’d woken up to every day that week. It was more dull and just- there.
Nonetheless, the day came to an end. They really did pretty alright for their first day, especially with the small staff. But Eddie couldn’t pull himself out of his head. The music, the customers, the air; the everything.
‘Hey, c-c-come on Eddie. We did fr-freaking amazing today. And you were so good with the tables, I didn’t even th-think of that. I can feel it- tomorrow’s gonna be even better!’ Bill was cleaning off the front counter. He could sense his friend getting overwhelmed, and he didn’t want to leave him like that.
‘I know I know, I just- I think I’ve got it from here. Go get some rest for tomorrow, ‘Kay?’
‘You s-s-sure, Eddie? I can stay, no problem.’
‘Promise I’m good. I trust your feeling- tomorrow’s gonna be even better’ Eddie couldn’t decide if he was trying to convince Bill or himself. He needed tomorrow to go better. He left everything behind for this. He had so much weighing on this working out.
‘A-Alright Eddie, see y-ya tomorrow bright and e-early!’ Bill ruffled Eddie’s hair before skipping out the door.
Eddie decided today was just a little bump in the road. Tomorrow was the real show time. He got out his laptop from behind the counter and started working on a playlist to play in the shop. It had to be perfect. He added some good hits from the charts first. Then some throwbacks from all genres, to keep everyone going. Next was the more chill music, for anyone needing some motivation. Finally he added some of his favorites, because that’s definitely the least he deserves. He plugged the laptop into the speakers so he could really get to work now.
He started with rearranging some of the trashcans for a more genuine flow (and so people wouldn’t forget to be decent human beings). He then added some stuff to the chalkboards behind the counter. He and Bill thought the menu looked more humble on a chalk board, and Eddie has to admit it was their best decision. He settled with adding some little drawings and doodles around the drink names. He then grabs the ‘Foaming Glory’ sign that’s in the window and makes sure it really pops. He puts it a little closer to the door this time.
When he starts yawning he comes to the conclusion that he might actually need sleep. After all, it was 12am now and they open at 5. He packs up everything and heads out. As he’s locking the door, he takes one final look at his achievement. He did this. He smiles to himself for a second and starts down the street to his apartment.
- The beeping of the oven shakes Eddie awake. He can’t honestly remember waking up this morning, and he can’t even fully remember how he got to work. But he’s definitely here and somehow he’s heating up the first bagel of the morning. He gets the bagel out and places it into the bags he designed about a month ago, he’s quite proud of them. They have a big coffee cup with two boys sitting in it, and ‘Foaming Glory’ written in fancy lettering above it all. He stuffs in a few napkins, a plastic knife and cream cheese and calls it out with an enthusiastic ‘Have a nice day!’.
Today was going to be long. He looks around to see no one but Bill at the register. ‘Hey! Last night I made us a playlist so it wouldn’t be so quiet, wanna hear?’ Eddie didn’t wait for a response, he was already plugging in his laptop and pressing play. Bill hummed along in agreeance, satisfying Eddie enough to go back to the coffee makers.
It was quiet for the first hour, being it was 5 in the morning. But low and behold, two boys came in at 6 sharp, ruining the whole vibe Eddie had going. They were in the middle of a very loud conversation, and if Eddie wasn’t awake before, he definitely was now. Come On Eileen was playing in the background, but all he could hear was their voices (more like one specifically). The boys were both pretty tall with dark, curly hair. One had significantly more curls, freckles kissing every bit of his face and sported big, bulky glasses that made his eyes look buggy. Eddie swears he might’ve fallen in love right there. Eddie was pulled out of his thoughts when Bill started taking their order.
‘Yeah uh I’ll have a large iced caramel coffee’ The boy replied, eyes meeting Eddie’s from what seemed like miles away. ‘Well you’re a sight, are you on the menu?’ He’s now wiggling his eyebrows suggestively at the shy boy who is now blushing.
‘Oh my god, excuse him. Richie never knows when to stop.’ The boy’s- Richie’s- friend says, moving them down the counter to wait for the coffee.
‘Stanley, my kind sir, I have to appreciate precious cargo like-‘ Richie pauses, and leans with squinty eyes to read the barista’s nametag. ‘Eddie! I have to appreciate little Eds over here!’ With that, Eddie spins around on his feet and finally contributes.
‘Actually, it’s just Eddie. No need to shorten it, but here’s your coffee’ He responds with a small wink. He doesn’t know what possess him to be so forward but before he knows it, he’s letting his fingers linger on Richie’s for a few moments. He wondered if he’d ever see him again. Maybe he should give him his number right now. Richie looked as if he practically melted at the touch of Eddie’s fingertips, which fed his overconfidence even more. ‘You should come back here, maybe a new menu item will come up soon’
Richie practically choked on air. Eddie could barely process what was happening, then another customer came in. He had to get back to his job. But before he turns to make the next order, he hears ‘Hope it’s your number, cutiepie’. Richie and Stanley then exit the shop and Eddie’s heart drops a little.
‘I-I can’t believe that j-j-just happened’ Bill teases. Before the smaller boy can reply, they hear a whistle from outside, making them abruptly turn. It’s Richie. ‘God, he’s an idiot’ Eddie whispers, but inside his heart is pounding. Richie brings his hands up and makes a heart before blowing a kiss. Eddie’s heart jumps. Stan grabs onto Richie and they finally go on their way.
‘S-S-See? Told ya today was g-gonna be better!’ Bill bops Eddie’s nose. ‘S-Somebody’s got a c-crush’ He slowly returns to the register, fiddling with the laptop to change the song.
‘Oh shut up’ Eddie scuffs. Gosh, he really hopes those rascals come back tomorrow.

SAM SMITH - HOW DO YOU SLEEP?
[4.33]
Sam asks, Iris answers...
Iris Xie: Quite well, actually, after hearing this song. [3]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: A friend recently sent me a powerpoint presentation handed down from another friend entitled "Your Fave is Problematic: Why I Forbid You From Stanning Sam Smith" (sam-smith-is-cursed.pptx), 10 slides which methodically detail why his music is boring and shallow, and his celebrity status is problematic. At the time we weren't even talking about his music -- the conversation was started by a meme -- but I couldn't help but argue back that "Latch," "Omen," and maybe even "Dancing with a Stranger" are classic bops which prove he has at least some artistic merit. When I saw the release of "How Do You Sleep?" I had hoped that it might be a tiebreaker proving me right, but Sam Smith seems determined to make me look a fool: this is listless, sleepy mid-tempo filler which puts the "dull" in "adultery." [2]
Nortey Dowuona: Sam Smith's work has been easy to forget, especially since his music without producers like Disclosure, Calvin Harris and Naughty Boy has been mostly mediocre. But here, he does the James Blake/Hudson Mohawke move of adopting the now easily copied trap drum patter and buries it underneath a sea of grainy, barely noticeable synths and pulls out some of his best singing for a while. The song is pretty dull, still. [6]
Joshua Lu: When Sam Smith dropped a video teaser for "How Do You Sleep?" a few weeks back, I was instantly on board. The prospect of Sam doing choreography was exciting for many reasons, chief among them the fact that a music video with dancing probably necessitated a song that could be danced over, which aside from his EDM collaborations would've been new for him. Imagine my reaction, then, when not only did the song turn out to still just be moderately paced, Sam and his languid vocals didn't seem to be aware that he wasn't on a ballad. The choreography in the video might've made up for my disappointment, had the part where Sam actually got up from his chair and danced not been laid over that bizarre goose honk in the chorus. [5]
Michael Hong: While the video for "How Do You Sleep?" feels like a response to everyone who criticized Sam Smith for not being queer enough, the track itself is far too carefully curated and too safe. Sam Smith may sound just as lovely as he does over those twinkling instrumentals as he does over a piano ballad, but here, he lacks any emotional depth. When he asks "how do you sleep when you lie to me?" he sounds bored rather than heartbroken. Throw in an unnecessary dance break after the first chorus and the entire thing just feels like it was created as a backdrop for the video. But hey, at least he's moved away from the formulaic balladry. [4]
Oliver Maier: Smith's redirect from blue-eyed soul to dance music has been a smart move on the whole, injecting some pep into his step and shaking off some (keyword: some) of the lugubriousness that plagued his previous efforts as much as it defined them. "How Do You Sleep?" is the strongest argument for this course-correct yet, even if it's not quite the gem it could be. I like the twinkling synths in the intro so much that every staid production decision that follows -- from that clap sound to the eyeroll-inducing vocal bending in the post-chorus -- can't help but disappoint in comparison. The opening line "I'm done hating myself for feeling" doesn't exactly fill one with confidence either. Yet Smith salvages the track with a terrific hook and a strong vocal performance, marrying confident sensuality with desperation and lending a real sense of urgency to his anguish. Heartache is familiar territory for him lyrically, but Smith energises it here by displaying a willingness to do something about his crisis instead of resigning himself to moping. [7]
Kayla Beardslee: Just like opening a bag of chips and finding it half-empty, "How Do You Sleep?" at first seemed colorful and promising but turned out frustratingly insubstantial. In theory, the stars should have aligned for this track to break Smith's recent trend of releasing glum, predictable songs: as his first single since January, there was incentive for it to sound like a hit, and he had even worked with the Max Martin cohort, some of pop's most reliable bop-makers. But in reality, even though it's upbeat, there's just nothing interesting to grab onto here. Smith is trying his hardest to emote, but over such a dull, basic instrumental, his efforts just sound out of place. The chorus melody is admittedly not terrible, especially the drop down on "All that fear and all that pressure," but that moment of pleasantness is immediately ruined by the following line, "I'm hoping that my love will keep you up tonight." I'm still having trouble believing that hook is real: it's the kind of cliche you would hear a fake pop star sing in a made-for-TV movie. And after that line, somehow, the song immediately tops itself again with one of the most bland, toothless drops I've heard this entire year. This drop means nothing, musically or lyrically, in the context of the song -- it's just an awful drop for the sake of it being an awful drop, and, like "How Do You Sleep" in its entirety, sounds like nothing more than the product of indifference. [3]
Alfred Soto: Not a John Lennon, alas, but the joke's on me: expecting rancor and vengeance from Sam Smith is like expecting Billie Eilish to join the White Stripes. Until the inevitable chipmunk vocal manipulations, "How Do You Sleep?" is the usual thwacking electro melancholy. [5]
Katherine St Asaph: Calvin Harris wrung unheard-of restraint out of Sam Smith's voice in "Promises," but whatever wizard miracle he pulled apparently doesn't work twice. The verses to "How Do You Sleep" are sung so breathy and hollow, so clearly at 10% capacity, that I just wish he'd sing out. Then he inevitably does that, and it's the same Auto-Tuned blare that people apparently love, but that to me has the unbearable volume, timbre and unchangingness of the smoke alarm going off. (How do you sleep through that, indeed.) "How Do You Sleep" then tries something else, a post-chorus of Bebe Rexha vocoder pirouettes, and I think: no, not that either. The instrumental is gorgeous, crystalline and wistful, and I have no idea what Sam Smith could do to best serve it, besides getting someone else to sing. Anyone heard from The Weeknd lately? [4]

an accurate guide about red velvet
So since so many people are getting into Red Velvet recently, I decided to make a guide to help them out. You know, give yall some slack because learning five names is super hard. A guide accompanied by my half-assed jokes, interesting.
PSA: If you’re only here to stan the girls because of their recent comebacks like Peek-A-Boo and Bad Boy and are going to drop them as soon as they release tracks similar to Dumb Dumb and Ice Cream Cake, leave because we don’t want you here.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get straight to business (TO DEFEAT THE HUNS WHY DID THEY SEND ME DAUGHTERS WHEN I ASKED FOR SONS)
Tumblr media
Basic Facts
Red Velvet is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2014.
There are five members (OT4 stans can choke).
They debuted on August 1st in 2014 with a single called “Happiness”.
Fandom name is Reveluv. Since “rêve” means “dream” in French, the meaning behind the fandom name is that us, Reveluvs, make their dreams come true and Red Velvet gives us their immense love in return, thus the “luv” part. Sometimes they also call us “Luvies”.
Official fandom colour is pastel coral and not red because l o g i c
The fact that they were formed by SM Entertainment doesn’t mean they got a free ride to the top so sit your entitled asses down, thanks.
Now, you see, they weren’t actually supposed to debut in 2014. I bet you must be confused but don’t worry, it is I, your trusty homie, that is gonna help you realize how many similarities every student has with SM lmao plus the reason for their early debut.
2014 was a rough year for our buddy Lee Soo Man. Jessica left Girl’s Generation; Sulli left f(x); Kris, Tao and Luhan left EXO... This, of course, caused a goddamn World War III amongst the fans of the respective groups. They were about to go in front of the official SM building with torches and pitchforks to demand SM to step up their game. To calm the situation down, our amigo SM must have thought: “Welp I sure fucked up. How the hell do I fix this? Wait, I have an idea! Let’s debut another girl group to cover up all the shit that has been piling up for years now!”
And your boi gone and did it. He basically debuted another group despite the number of problems he had to deal with already. This is every student ever, just make another problem to cover up the first one.
Red Velvet debuted with four members; Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. The “Happiness” music video got 2 million views in a day and was the most viewed kpop music video for the month of August in 2014. See, the queens already breaking records.
However, the original version of “Happiness” was full of controversial topics such as 9/11 being the most prominent one. This caused such hate to the girls that everyone started calling them “flops”. Lmao Red Velvet stays unbothered as the kpop act with the most Billboard charted albums bYE.
Some of you still may be wondering what the hell happened with Yeri. Well, because their debut was rushed and due to her age, Yeri, unfortunately, couldn’t debut with them. When Red Velvet debuted, Yeri was 15 years old so basically a child.
“bUt jiSUnG fROM ncT DreAM dEBuTed wHeN hE WAs onlY FoUrteEn”
Before, there was a law which stated that kids under the age of 16 couldn’t debut.
No need to worry fellow Yeri stans! Red Velvet only released another single called “Be Natural” before Yeri was officially added. The single featured NCT’s Taeyong on it too so if you are one of those fangirls, better go and check it out because your oppar is there + it is an underrated bop.
Yeri was added to the group during Ice Cream Cake era! Of course, many people hated her, acting as if Red Velvet released so many songs and solved world hunger without Yeri. Um, bitch they had two songs take a seat.
Discography and music in general lol
IT IS GOLD!1!!!!111!!
Okay listen, every single song of theirs makes me thot-drop in the middle of the goddamn school. Jesus Christ sunbaenim is shaking.
Albums:  Ice Cream Cake, The Red, The Velvet, Russian Roulette, Rookie, The Red Summer, Perfect Velvet, The Perfect Red Velvet.
Queens of naming their albums don’t even @ me.
Listen to every single song if you want to cure your depression, clear your skin, feed your children and harvest your crops. Seriously, all of their b-sides are so amazing and such bops they are worth a listen and you, as a person who chose to stan Red Velvet, deserve to have your ears cleansed.
Another topic that I want to bring up is “the red concept” and “the velvet concept”. It is not complicated. Basically what it means is that they split their concepts into two. The red concepts are more upbeat, catchy and poppy songs such as Dumb Dumb, Rookie, Russian Roulette etc. However, the velvet concept is where they show their mature, more serious ballads. Songs that represent the velvet side are Automatic, One of These Nights, Peek-A-Boo etc.
They filmed 13 music videos so you are going to get attacked by visuals 13 times, good luck.

The most interesting and fun part of this guide to be honest. So yeah, five members and five completely different personalities. Trust me, you’re gonna love every single one of these girls because they all have such amazing personalities and are extremely funny. Get abroad the homo express!

10 reasons why you should stan Pentagon
1-Have you fucken heard their voices?
If heaven…or honey… or maybe even a sunset could have voices, I’m 101% sure it would sound exactly like Pentagon’s voices. I’m aware that if they are k-pop idols, they must have nice voices. But in the case of Pentagon… It’s as if God’s took the voices of a thousand angels and transferred those into Pentagon’s members throat. Am I exaggerating?  11/10 universe will agree.
Here’s a compilation of my favorites solos and voices of pentagon!
E’dawn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3Iqd-AhjQE Kino: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YjQSyADihQ Hui & Jinho : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GIPgm8nJ30
2- Genius composers
Ok let’s be real. Every single one of their songs are bops, and some of them were written by Pentagon’s members. Hui, E’dawn and Wooseok are writers and composers that put their hearts and soul into their songs and it makes them even more touching. In their new EP (Ceremony), the song “To Universe” was written by Hui, E’dawn, Wooseok and Yuto. It makes it so genuinely pure-hearted that Pentagon are the one that wrote this special song to their Universe.
One of my personal favorite is “Thank you”. You know, those songs that you hear for the first time and you just cry? Or the songs that you share with all your friends because it is just, so beautifully executed. “Thank you” is one of them.
Can we also talk about this magnificent poem from Yan An, it’s truly wonderful. A work of art. Wisdom in its purest form. Enjoy.
“Hey, my love Julie. I’d like you even if you were bald, Even a crew cut is fine, I’d like you even if you were sweet like sugar, It’s fine if you are salty like salt, In the end, You’re still my girl, Pentagon member, Yanan’s girl.”
Thank you:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GIPgm8nJ30 To universe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q00W_9iFJ1c
3- KINO GRINDING ASDFGHJKL
OKAY I’M TIRED OF BEING SO SENTIMENTAL OVER PENTAGON LET’S ENJOY THIS VIEW
. I don’t know how I can explain how I felt when he launched this sex-bomb at me… Should I make a meme?
Me when I get a F in class : “idc” Me when I have to walk and its raining af : “couldn’t care less tbh” Me when there a nuclear bomb exploding next to me: “boring” Kino grinding : ASDFGHJKL THE NO IN KINO STANDS FOR “NO BOY YOU CAN’T DO THAT”
I can’t find the gif so here is the link to that grinding hoe’s performance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YjQSyADihQ
Tumblr media
What sorcery is this? how can a cute boy like him grind this vigorously?
4- The relationship between Hui and E’dawn
*I ain’t shipping anyone*
Hui and E’dawn have always been best friends and their relationship is definitely goals! I’m not lying, E’dawn even got Hui a friendship ring during pentagon maker. (The fact that it was saying “I love Dawn” made me choke on my coffee tbh). The chemistry can easily be sensed from thousand miles away. And that time when Hui had to choose between two groups, one with E’dawn as leader and one with Jinho as leader. He looked so torn apart by the decision! He still took part in E’dawn team (obviously).
Their time in Triple H surely made their bond stronger! They had loooooooooots of fluffy times together in the making of the “365 so fresh” MV!
Tumblr media
5- They had the very first survival show that didn’t trigger me and made me want to throw myself from the 6th floor
Produce 101 who? No mercy who? MIX&MATCH WHO??? Never heard of those. My only religion is Pentagon Maker. Seriously though… *SPOILER ALERT* They started with 10 members “fighting” to earn their places in Pentagon and can debut and ALL 10 OF THEM WERE ABLE TO DEBUT! How super cool is that? The only thing I did watching this show is laugh, laugh and laugh again( and cry a bit lol)! I didn’t have to worry about Idol having their dream crushed in million pieces #fuckmnetamIright.
6- They have the prettiest and most genuine smiles.
Is there a need to add anything else? Oh yeah! I need to add a signature at the end of my certificate of death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7- E’dawn in general, I just can’t get over him.
He. Is. Jus. So. Fucking. Weird.
Don’t sue me, he is the cute/hilarious/perfect kind of weird but like… sometimes you sincerely wish you could see what’s going on inside his head. Because from the outside, he looks like a huge mess.
Scared Dawn: E’Dawn: “I’m not scared of anything”
*2 secs later*
E’dawn: AHHHHHHHHHH * Makes ultrasounds*
Here is different side of E’dawn:
Cute Dawn:

don’t mess with E’dawn:

Weird E’dawn:
Tumblr media
E’down/ E’dead inside/ E’Done:

8- Jinho is a level 1000 stealth master
They don’t call him “small hyung” for no reason! He is so small that during performences when he is in the back, we can barely see him. Even cameramen can’t seem to get accustomed to his stealth technics. Still, I’m probably 102% sure he doesn’t appreciate being call small and cute all the time since he is still a hyung. Since he probably won’t see this… He is so cuuuute!
Tumblr media
can you see him? me neither. (He is behind Hui I think idk either)
9- Scaredy cats
Yuto is scared of the dark.
Shinwoon is afraid of animals.
E’dawn is scared of water (He can’t swim).
Here is a scared Shinwoon for you.
Tumblr media
This gif in slowmo makes the dog look so much more scary even tho it looks so fluffy oh lord it’s really funny.
10- Yuto came straight out of a manga
- Japanese
- Played baseball for 6 years
- Unimaginably handsome
- Deep voice
- Tall
- More cool than cute (He says he can’t do aegyo)
If a mangaka release a manga based on Yuto, I swear I’ll sell everything in my possession to buy the entirety of mangas.
Tumblr media
***I’m not only saying this because he is Japanese***
Bonus: Jinho and Wooseok height difference

My Top 12 Favorite Pop Albums of 2017
Man, 2017 was a great year for pop music especially. This year was also when I started actually using Spotify, subscription and all, for the first time, so the new music I discovered just kept on piling up and I was so here for it. I decided I’d compile a top 12 list of my favorite albums, since it’s the end of the year, why not. And yeah I know the “normal” format is top 10, but bitch I have 12 favorites, whaddaya want. And even these I had to really narrow down. If you follow me on Twitter at all though, you probably know exactly what my number one album is. It’s an album that’ll probably be on many people’s number one spots, but I think I’ll do this list descending. This is also only the music that I’ve discovered personally, so if a big pop album/EP from this year wasn’t mentioned, means I either didn’t really like em that much or I have yet to discover them.
#12. BETTY WHO - THE VALLEY
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
I actually first heard of Betty Who through Troye Sivan’s song “Heaven” which she featured in. She strikes me as Australia’s equivalent of Carly Rae Jepsen because her songs are all just the completely infectious, bubblegum pop sound that I find irresistible. Some of my favorites from this album are “Mama Say”, “You Can Cry Tomorrow” and “Human Touch”. This is a great album to put on when you’re getting ready with your friends or just wanna jump around and be crazy. If you’ve never heard of her and you’re a pop music freak like me, this album is right up your alley cause it’s chock-full of bops. I’d also recommend checking out her debut album, Take Me When You Go, which has more of the Carly Rae-esque 80s-y feel to it than this one.
#11. TOVE LO - BLUE LIPS (LADY WOOD PHASE II)
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
Oh, Tove. What else can I say? If you love pop music then you know exactly why this album made the list and it probably made yours too. She is just the ultimate master of making unapologetically sexual bops. She’s always been very sex positive and seriously, the production on her songs is always spot on as fuck. I’d say “shivering gold” is one of the songs that I keep coming back to the most, as well as “stranger” and the addictive lead single “disco tits”, but this entire album is filled with solid and sultry pop songs that you can pop your pussy to any time. Tove is just always so unabashedly nasty and honest, I always love that about her.
#10. ANNA OF THE NORTH - LOVERS
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
One of the indie artists I discovered on Spotify which I’m immensely grateful for. Her music is right up my alley; modern yet very much rooted in dreamy, 80s-inspired synthpop. I pretty much like every single song across the board, but some of my favorites are “Money” which is a really cute song about warning a guy about dating a gold digger, and then “Feels” and the title track “Lovers “ which both just make me drift off into a dreamlike state every time and zone out, and I find most of the songs on this album have the same effect on me. “Dreamy” really is the perfect adjective to describe it. I strongly suggest checking her out if what I’ve described is your thing.
#9. BILLIE EILISH - DONT SMILE AT ME
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
I know this is technically an EP since it’s under 10 songs, however I couldn’t possibly skip out of putting it on my list. Billie Eilish is one of the biggest breakout artists of this year I think. I saw a tweet recently from someone who said and I quote, “Whatever ‘it’ is, Billie Eilish has it.” I agree 1000%. She’s got star quality all over her. Looks, talent, all of it. The thing I love about her songs is that her attitude is always present in every one of them. Like in “my boy”, when she’d go “WHAT” or “Alright, dude, go trip over a knife” in between the breaks, and in “COPYCAT” where she does this long, drawn out apology only to top it off with a “sike”. “party favor” is also a very interesting song since it starts off with an answering machine message and it gradually fades into the actual song, and I thought that was such a cool effect; her personality just shines through in her music and that’s what makes her such a star. I have a feeling Billie is going to take 2018 by storm.
#8. DUA LIPA - DUA LIPA
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
Yet another new artist who is just oozing with star quality. I had a bit of a slow-to-grow thing with Dua though, for whatever reason. I held off from actually listening to her debut album because I wasn’t really feeling the singles she’d released prior to it. I recognized that she had an incredible voice, but for some reason I just wasn’t warmed up to her enough yet. Enter “Scared to Be Lonely”, her duet with Martin Garrix, which I think is one of the best EDM songs ever made. When I heard that song, I was like okay let me just sit down and listen to this bitch’s album and see what she’s all about. And I was pleasantly surprised. I was surprised at how diverse this album was especially cause she explored a lot of different sounds for almost every song. “New Rules” will always be my favorite, because obviously. That followed by “Genesis” and “Begging” are just a few of the stand-outs for me. Just like Billie, I have a feeling 2018 will also be a big year for Miss Dua.
#7. MUNA - ABOUT U
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
God, I am so happy I found this group. I first discovered them through their song “Winterbreak” which I thought was so beautiful and melancholic, I had to dig up more of their songs. Even just thinking about this album gives me a feeling of joy because I just fucking love their music so much. It’s not even something I can explain, you just have to hear it really. The stand outs for me are, well shit, there’s a lot actually. As well as “Winterbreak” I also really love “So Special”, “Loudspeaker”, “I Know A Place” (which I think of as a queer anthem tbh and it is such an empowering, joyful song) and “Crying on the Bathroom Floor” (which has a pretty morbid subject matter but is I think one of the best songs on the album). Please please check them out and support them if you like what they’re giving. I can’t wait to see what they do next cause I am all aboard the MUNA train for sure.
#6. LANA DEL REY - LUST FOR LIFE
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
I thought for sure LFL would make it onto my top 5 but it just scraped it. I think when I first listened to the album I was a little too quick to say that it was Lana’s best album to date. I think I was just so wrapped up in the fact that she was back that the excitement and how much I stan for her had me caught up in the moment. I mean let’s be real, even though I do love all her albums, I think most people are in agreement that Born to Die will always be her best. I did really enjoy this album however, especially Lana’s new happier outlook and the fact that she’s a little more political with her lyrics. Even just looking at the album cover, you can tell that she’s in a much better place in her life My favorite song from the album is without a doubt “13 Beaches”, it’s just so stunning and so quintessentially her. Overall I was just happy to hear that she didn’t stray too far from her sound for this album; she’s still unmistakably Lana.
#5. KESHA - RAINBOW
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
The long-awaited comeback that at one point I honestly thought would never come. I remember the #FreeKesha movement and how horribly Kesha was treated in the entire case against that monster Dr. Luke. It made me sick how he literally owned her soul at one point, and I’m glad that now despite the fact that she isn’t fully free of his influence, she was at least able to work without him and produced this magical little album. When the video for “Praying” first dropped, I was in tears. In legit tears, because it was the perfect comeback. Her vocals in that song gave me chills, and even though those of us who are massive fans of her have always been aware of her vocal ability, I feel like Kesha always has to constantly prove to the world that she can sing all because for the longest time she was known as “the autotune girl”. While Animal and Warrior were really good albums in their own right and I have a lot of nostalgic affection towards them, I feel like Rainbow was the album she always WANTED to make, just like Joanne was for Gaga. It gave her a chance to truly showcase her talent, which people often forgot or didn’t even know she had. But the thing I love most about this album is that it comes from a place of triumph. I am so proud of my girl. I hope one day she’ll be free of her disgusting abuser and can truly be happy.
#4. ALLIE X - COLLXTION II
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
I hesitate to use the word “perfect” a lot of the time, but Jesus Christ I can’t describe Allie in any other way. Even when I first discovered her via her 2015 EP CollXtion I, I immediately described her music as “pop perfection”. Because that’s literally what she does. She takes everything that sounds good about current pop music and makes it her own. She is such a hit maker and it boggles my mind how underrated she is. I think her song “Sanctuary” from her first EP I would even go as far to say as one of the best pop songs I’ve ever heard in my life. IN MY LIFE. In this particular album, every song is a certified bop. “Casanova” is for sure my number one song from it because that production is so flawless it’s criminal. If you’ve never heard of her and are listening to her songs for the first time, make sure to hide your wigs because I’m telling you; they’ll all disintegrate by the time you’ve gone through her discography. Allie X is the real deal, and she deserves WAY more fame and success than she’s getting.
#3. SZA - CTRL
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
Okay, yes, I know that technically this is an R&B album, but it would’ve been criminal for me not to put SZA on the list. She joins Billie and Dua as some of the biggest breakthrough artists of the year. I don’t really know why I fell in love with SZA and this album so much, because it’s normally not the kind of music I go for or am interested in. But for some reason I got lost in her gorgeous voice and the insanely crisp production of the songs that I was just hooked the house down boots. Initially my favorite song was “Prom” because it was probably the most pop-sounding song out of the bunch, but it wasn’t long before I grew to love the entire album as a whole, which I didn’t expect to happen since it’s so out of my comfort zone. SZA has this honest way of writing that really cuts deep at times, for example in “Drew Barrymore” when she says: “I get so lonely, I forget what I’m worth / We get so lonely, we pretend that this works” that shit hit hard. It’s REAL. “20 Something” is another one of those songs that anyone in their twenties could probably relate to due its pure honesty. Ctrl was seriously the surprise hit of the year, and I can’t wait to see what SZA does next. I low-key hope her next two albums will be called Alt and Delete.
#2. LIGHTS - SKIN&EARTH
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
I have kind of a special connection with Lights. I first discovered her through her song “Savior” back in like, 2010-ish. I was in eighth grade at the time and it was a very tumultuous period in my life. I was in an Islamic school, I had zero friends and I was still coming to terms with the fact that I didn’t fit in with anyone and I never would. I was in a deep depression, and her debut album The Listening helped me through a lot of that period of time. While most people coped with depression through listening to music that mirrored those feelings, I dealt with it by listening to songs that were happy and upbeat. Lights’ songs at the time were adorable and cheerful, sort of akin to if Owl City had a female vocalist. Ever since then, whenever she would release an album, it always helped me out of slumps, and I became really devoted to her. I was obsessed with her follow up albums Siberia and Little Machines, and now Skin&Earth falls into that category. I adore this album, and it’s one of those albums that I have to listen to from start to finish all the time because I just love it so much as a whole. At this point I know she could never disappoint me, and she’s one of the girls I always look to for catchy pop sounds with beautiful lyrics. I love her dearly, and I implore you to go through her catalog if you’ve just now discovered her. She is a true pop gem.
Before we get to the #1 (which I’m sure is pretty obvious at this point), some honorable mentions, most of which are EPs. I’ve attached each of them with their respective Spotify links in case you wanna have a listen to any of em. In no particular order:
Astrid S - Party’s Over (EP)
Monogem - 100% (EP)
Khalid - American Teen (this one almost made the list)
Superfruit - Future Friends (this one too)
PVRIS - All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell
Terror Jr. - Bop City 2: TerroRising
Terror Jr. - Bop 3: The Girl Who Cried Purple (EP)
Sigrid - Don’t Kill My Vibe (EP)
Daniella Mason - Daniella Mason (EP)
Echosmith - Inside a Dream (EP)
Phoebe Ryan - James (EP)
Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel
Fickle Friends - Glue (EP)
FRND - In Your Dreams (EP)
Paramore - After Laughter (another one that just scraped the list)
Transviolet - Kaleidoscopes (EP)
Zara Larsson - So Good
Lola Marsh - Remember Roses
Thomas Azier - Rouge
Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom
Ralph - Ralph (EP)
Sabrina Claudio - About Time
Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me
Vera Blue - Perennial
Brother Sundance - Honey (EP)
Fifth Harmony - Fifth Harmony
MØ - When I Was Young (EP)
Stalgia - NOMAD
EMBRZ - Progress (EP)
Aly & AJ - Ten Years (EP)
LP - Lost on You
Mothica - Heavy Heart (EP)
SAKIMA - Ricky (EP)
Ella Vos - Words I Never Said
I highly suggest checking these artists out. Just because they didn’t make the list, doesn’t mean they’re less good; my favorites just sorta overpowered them. Anyways, now that that’s outta the way, onto my not at all surprising number one pick.
#1. LORDE - MELODRAMA
Tumblr media
Spotify | iTunes
I told you this was Melodrama. How could I not crown this masterpiece of an album number one? Ever since I first listened to it, I was adamant in saying that it would be THE album of the year and I’ve stuck to that. I strongly believe that it should win the Grammy, and deservedly so, because Lorde really outdid herself with this. I mean, holy fuck. When I first heard Pure Heroine I knew she was a talented writer and that was a great album, but I had no idea she was THIS talented. Melodrama really captured the depth of her ability and also how much she’s grown as both an artist and a person. Pure Heroine was all about teen life and coming of age, it was a very cohesive and uniform album and also a very influential album musically speaking, since Pure Heroine along with LDR’s Born to Die has such a heavy effect on the pop music of today. Melodrama still has some of that Pure Heroine charm but it’s unmistakably more adult, darker and grittier, and maintains the cohesive theme of the rise and fall of a relationship. I don’t know how Ella’s mind works but she writes like a dream. All of these songs are masterfully written, and her and Jack Antonoff make an amazing team. One of the songs in particular, “Supercut”, gives me a very euphoric feeling in a way that it makes me want to dance around while laughing and crying at the same time. It is very reminiscent of my feelings toward Gaga’s song “Gypsy” from ARTPOP. “Liability” is a standout in regards to songwriting also, because a lot of artists like to promote their work as “personal”, but this song and really this entire album is pretty much Ella baring her soul, and that’s as personal as “personal” can get. I’m just really in awe of her talent, and Melodrama deserves to top every “album of the year” list out there. It’s an incredible piece of artistry and I think decades from now it is going to be remembered as a classic.

Hi! I’m once again going to put changgu in my back pocket so that I can talk(gush) about another member of Pentagon. So today I wanna relay my adoration for Go Shinwon. Like omg, is this dude even real?!?
Not gonna lie, I kinda disliked him when I first watched Pentagon Maker those many years ago. Tbh, I don’t think Pentagon Maker gave the members ANY justice at all. They’re all so humble and funny but the show just made them seem like kpop robots? And do you remember their first released photos. I was like what the heck, these are some pretty shit photos???
But I digress. Back to Shinwon. After I reignited my love for ptg (because highlight and btob were in the military then, lol), I realised Shinwon is soooo genuine and real? I mean, he could potentially just be really good at carrying his idol persona, but from my 13 years stanning oppas, I’d like to think I know how to differentiate what’s real from what’s not.
I love that he always has the 😲 expression by default. I chanced upon his childhood photos and what the heck, this dude has not changed at all! He has been carrying around a default shook expression for 26 years. Lol.
Oh another thing I found so respectable of SW is how he actually made an active decision to quit high school, move to Seoul and figure out what he wants to do. Like that must’ve taken soooooo much courage? Especially since we come from an Asian country, it’s like the bare minimum of societal expectations to at least complete high school. But this kiddo, at 17, knew he didn’t wanted to continue with school?! Like, I would never have the balls to quit school at 17. I mean… I’m currently 27 and I have changed my choice of career countless of times since I was 17?
And moving to Seoul, a hugeass, cut throat, metropolitan city?! I moved to Australia at 22 and I was still struggling to figure life out. How would a 17 year old do that? But I guess that’s also what makes him so special. How he has the most carefree yolo attitude on Earth. As a Type A, somebody like Shinwon amazes me.
I couldn’t believe it when I found out that Shinwon only wanted to be an idol because he wanted to continue being with the ptg members. Like, when I saw him eliminated from ptg maker for the first time, I was like meh, for the best. But 4 years later, I take back every single one of my poor impression of Go Shinwon. It’s amazing how much he has improved over the years. The dude could barely carry a note. But look at him now! Confidently singing at random times. 😭 I’ve been obsessed with Just Do It Yo lately. It’s such a bop?! It’s so positive and so infectious. It’s like shinwon in a song.
I saw a tumblr post the other day that mentioned Shinwon is btob Eunkwang’s handsome son and I was like holy shit. I have never realised?!?! Lol. Could not look at either of them the same way again. Love them both though.
I’ve notice multiple members mentioned that Shinwon is sooo crucial to ptg. I couldn’t understand why at first, but as I started spending all my time searching up ptg on YouTube, I realised that Shinwon pretty much embodies ptg. His tenacity, genuineness, humour, creativity, sincerity… I could go on forever. It’s not like the other members are expendable, but I guess you can say Shinwon defines the original ptg?
I saw clips of his model walk and dayum this dude is made for the spotlight?! Like I’m pretty sure even if he didn’t end up an idol, he’ll probably be a pretty successful high fashion model. Which surprises me. Like don’t get me wrong, Shinwon is really good looking. But I’ve always thought he’s like mainstream good looking, not high fashion good looking. Yknow what I mean? But seeing him adorned in those ridiculous high fashion outfits, damn, it fitted like a glove.
It’s a pity that runways have been canceled due to Covid. I would love to see Shinwon do runway shows a lot more. He actually has a decent walk? Like he’s not there just for hype because he’s an idol? He actually models well?
So yes, in conclusion, 4 years ago me was incredibly wrong about Shinwon. He is soooooo much more than the boy who could not carry a tune. Oh, also, I love his dressing. It’s so flamboyant in the most effortless way, like he just picks up a random bright flowery shirt each day. Lol.
Okay, that’s all I have for Shinwon. Stay tuned for my rants (gush) about the other ptg members, which will definitely come in time as I fall more and more in love with these boys. Changgu and his cheeks will always have a place in my heart though. He’s so weird. I love it.

i’m finally back home in melbourne and now it’s time to talk about kcon australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (both days).
so, i had to fly in from melbourne to sydney for this, and i flew in on thursday (but landed at 6pm, so couldn’t do early check in unfortunately...i was told from other people that victon were actually there just walking around the arena and exploring sydney on thursday so damn).
day 1
it takes over an hour to get to the convention from where i was staying, so my friend and i didn’t get there until about 10:30am?? and the first thing we did was join the first queue we saw (which ended up being the convention line). it was kind of disorganised bc no one knew what we were all queuing up for, and then we realised after ten minutes of queuing OH WE HAVE TO CHECK IN (we were p1), so we went further down, found the check in tent and managed to get our wristbands and scratch cards. scratched everything for day 1 and i got: audience for sf9 and hi touch with pentagon (WHICH WAS WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR SO I WAS SO SO SO HAPPY OMG).
sf9 were first up, and we were actually almost late for it, but we got in and they were cute and INSEONG. inseong’s always been my bias, but he really solidified it this kcon. his english is great (which i knew already!!), and he talked so much and I LOVE HIM OK. I LOVE THAT BOY. so sf9 were cuties. stayed in the audience to watch hi touch after their little meet and greet thing (shout out to kevin!!!!!), and they looked so happy and i kept yelling inseong’s name like the fangirl i am. he’s beautiful.
SO after the sf9 artist engagement was victon’s so my friend and i got something to eat. once we did, i came back for pentagon’s hi touch and started queuing up at the exact time i was supposed to (12:15pm). there were already people in the line, so i got in and sat down for over an hour in the hot, hot sun and it well and truly sucked bc i could feel myself melting. not a fun time. BUT worth it when we finally got in bc i was right in front so i got a GREAT view of the boys.
they did their meet and greet thing (kino danced to the key dance point of ‘like this’), and then hi touch began!!!!! order: yan an, shinwon, yeo one, e’dawn, jinho, hui, kino, hongseok, yuto and wooseok. YAN AN, SHINWON AND HUI ARE LIKE SUPER SUPER BEAUTIFUL IRL I WAS IN A W E. yeo one is my bias so ofc i was a mess when i saw him. i also remember e’dawn and jinho pretty clearly?? maybe bc i had the most eye contact with them? everyone else is sort of a blur now bc it went by so fast (like all hi touches). all i could think about was that this was the first group that i ever stanned pre-debut!! and i still remember bawling my eyes out watching pentagon maker when shinwon was eliminated (even with the knowledge that he got into pentagon in the end but STILL I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HEARTBROKEN BY A ‘SURVIVAL SHOW’...even if it didn’t really end up being a survival show?? idk). so. I TOUCHED ALL THEIR HANDS IT WAS GREAT.
after that, i made my way inside the convention centre, and just stayed inside for like an hour or so bc it was too hot for me to even try to venture outside, but eventually i had to go out to line up for the red carpet, and when i went outside: MASSIVE LINE. it was 4:30pm :/ so of course, i lined up and then ended up making friends with the girl next to me (we were p1 left), and so at least i had someone to chill with for the next two hours of waiting in line (my friend didn’t go to red carpet, she only came in for the show). so lots more waiting until finally FINALLY we were let into red carpet. i was pretty much in the back, so i didn’t get to see much (esp when exo came out bc everyone lost it. lots of phones everywhere). and then we were (in a very, very disorganised manner) herded to the concert area, where there was more waiting, but i managed to find my original friend in the meantime!
eventually kevin came on to talk to us about hotels combined (the sponsor), and then cover dances, and it finally started. suho and sehun did some mcing and i cried. SUHO’S ENGLISH. MY HUSBAND. THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. so after them, first up was sf9!! they did: easy love, jungle game and fanfare. it was amazing (i was especially here for jungle game LOVED That dance). after them was pentagon. I LOST IT. my friend pushed me in front of her bc she knows i love them. they did: like this, can you feel it and gorilla. I WAS YELLING THEIR NAMES SO LOUD. oh, and kino did a solo dance at the beginning too. i think they did the piñata game?? but honestly, everything is a mess in my mind at this point, so i can’t remember for sure. after pentagon was victon! i don’t know them that well, but i’ve learnt all their names now (seungsik is soooooooooo cute ok THAT EYE SMILE). they did: unbelievable, blank and eyez eyez. i’m officially a fan now. then it was girl’s day!! i can’t believe i got to see girl’s day irl omg. minah is SO BEAUTIFUL. she came over to my section the most out of all the girls. i’m hyeri biased, but minah had a hold over me the whole time tbh. they did: i’ll be yours, something, expectation and ring my bell. I ACTUALLY GOT TO SEE SOMETHING AND EXPECTATION IN THE FLESH IT WAS INCREDIBLE. and then of course it was exo’s turn and i was YELLING SO LOUD BC MY BOYS. i’ve literally never in my life been so starstruck by a group before bc they’re EXO. they were RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME IN PERSON (minus d.o. and lay unfortunately though). i actually could have cried. i almost did. btw, chanyeol did a special stage of stay with me (from the goblin ost) with seola from wjsn and it was SO GREAT I LOVE THAT OST ONE OF MY FAVES ACTUALLY. ok so, exo performed: power, tender love, heaven, the eve and ko ko bop. I CAN’T BELIEVE I GOT TO SEE THE EVE LIVE THAT DANCE IS EVERYTHING GOOD IN THE WORLD. suho came over to my section and looked in my direction and smiled and his eyes literally GLITTERED and i have never felt so flustered in my life i almost sobbed. i’m actually really, really happy that i got to see ko ko bop and power live too bc i love love love the dance to power and they always look like they’re having the time of their life when they perform it (esp kai and he was so smiley!!). and then, before i knew it, it was all over and they all came out and said their final goodbyes and i had to go home. i was so exhausted, but still ready for day 2 of course.
OH, special stages were: pentagon peforming got7′s hard carry, sf9 performing exo’s monster and victon performing bts’ fire!!
day 2
so day 2 i was all by my lonesome bc my friend only wanted to go to day 1 (bc she wasn’t too familiar with the day 2 acts), so i headed off on my own a bit later this time since i already knew who i’d pulled for audience engagements/hi touch: wjsn and up10tion for audience engagement and monsta x for hi touch!! i’m not too familiar with wjsn and up10tion so i didn’t end up going to their audience engagement (i was also really, really tired), but i rocked up to the arena at about 11:30am for the monsta x hi touch (i still can’t believe i pulled monsta x bc they were the ones i wanted the MOST). there was already a line there (even though the queue for up10tion was still lining up), so i quickly got in line and had to wait even longer than pentagon this time since i came so early (but i knew there were going to be A LOT of monsta x fans). this time i learnt my lesson and brought an umbrella though, so it was a lot more bearable at least. so i sat there in line chatting with the girl in front of me (it’s really easy to make friends at these conventions and i’m shy as hell) who was a big monbebe. eventually, we got in, and then it was slightly cooler and kevin came out again to introduce monsta x and i was pretty close to the front? like maybe second row, so i had a wonderful view of all of them once again. KIHYUN WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME I WEPT TEARS BC HE LOOKED IN MY DIRECTION AND SMILED. i’ve always been both wonho and kihyun biased, but i truly think that kihyun finally took the bias title for me (with wonho still at a close second) bc i honestly could not stop staring at that boy. jooheon did a rap and it was fire ofc. then hi touch started and i was FREAKING OUT. i was literally shaking so much. i’ve never been so nervous to do a hi touch before (and i’ve done a bunch of them), but monsta x has this effect over me idek. order: shownu, hyungwon, jooheon, wonho, i.m., kihyun and minhyuk. i just kept going HI SHOWNU HI HYUNGWON HI JOOHEON HI WONHO HI I.M HI KIHYUN HI MINHYUK bc i didn’t know what else to do or say. kihyun actually grasped my hand and i shook some more. he was so smiley!!!!!!!!! i don’t remember all that much of this hi touch, but def kihyun’s face. and minhyuk bc he was at the end and real cute too. and shownu bc i was hyping myself out since he was first haha.
so after hi touch i went to go grab some lunch, and chilled for about an hour before going back and then finding some of the friends i met yesterday. we ended up lining up for red carpet at about 4pm, since the line had already started, and we wanted to be in closer than before. so more hours lining up until we were finally, finally let in. unfortunately, wanna one didn’t do red carpet bc i heard their hi touch ran long or something? idk, so after red carpet, we were herded once again into the arena, but this time it was too fast and it was kind of like a mini stampede. it was kind of dangerous actually :/ but eventually we got to make out way inside, and this time i was actually a little closer to the stage, but bc of that it was more pushy. also wanna one fans were really energetic (hah). they were more crazy i feel than the day 1 fans at least, but again, maybe it was just bc i was closer to the stage this time? who knows.
anyway, so kevin comes out and does more ‘hotels combined’ talking, and then introduces the cover dances (which i feel were better than the day 1 ones. they did really good). and then inseong and rowoon did some mcing (which they also did yesterday), and jooheon and shownu did a special collab stage together. sf9 were up first again. this time they did: easy love, roar and fanfare. so instead of jungle game they did roar this time round. there was some ongoing theme of taking off their jackets that they seemed to start bc every other group kept doing it after them bc it was so hot haha. cue me screaming INSEONG some more bc INSEONG (also jaeyoon!!). after sf9 were up10tion. they did: runner, so dangerous and white night. again, i’m not that familiar with up10tion (i like wooshin but...he’s still getting better so he wasn’t there). sunyoul, hwanhee and jinhoo REALLY caught my eye though. and they’re songs were so good?????? why have i been sleeping on them. so yeah, they did their thing and were very, very cute. after up10tion was wjsn, and they did: happy, secret and catch me. i don’t know them that well either, but i do like secret (and the more than i listen to happy, the more that it grows on me). they also did a cover medley of kylie minogue’s locomotion and can’t get you out of my head (the girl next to me was a huge fan and burst into tears when she saw them). i don’t have a bias yet, but luda, exy, yeoreum and dawon though!!!!!!!!!! so, so beautiful omg. cheng xiao and bona weren’t there though :( then wanna one came out and the crowd went mad. as soon as energetic started, everyone had their phone up and i could barely see anything haha. they did: energetic, wanna be (my baby) and burn it up. they also did some talking in the middle and seongwoo literally came over to my section and sat down and did aegyo IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. jisung did too and all my vids of that are literally just me screaming JISUUUUUUNG at the top of my lungs bc MY FAVE OK MY FAVE BOY I ROOTED FOR HIM FROM THE START. minhyun also came over at one point and did his infamous dance and i’ve recently become a nu’est stan all over again so MORE SCREAMING FROME ME. and woojin came over and did a sexy dance legit right in front of me and i caught it on video it’s the most beautiful thing in the world i am #blessed. also, it was guanlin’s birthday so daehwi (bless that boy) brought it up off script and everyone sang happy birthday to him :’) it was so cute. so after wanna one and their little aegyo/sexy competition, it was monsta x’s turn. SO MUCH YELLING I WELL AND TRULY LOST MY VOICE. they performed: shine forever, beautiful, ex-girl, fighter and hero. I GOT TO SEE FIGHTER AND HERO IN PERSON MY TWO FAVE TITLE TRACKS FROM THEM!!!!!!!!! they did this thing where they proposed to this girl in the audience. i.m. said something cheesy haha, kihyun serenaded her (i survived that somehow), and then wonho. MY MAN WONHO. he went down to the crowd, gave her a heart, took her phone and took a selfie with her and hugged her. HIS FAN SERVICE IS NO JOKE. i know i’ve seen vids of their concerts and always known but actually seeing it live is something else entirely. my lightstick gave out halfway through their set too (prob bc it was too overwhelmed by monsta x as well haha). so yeah, anyway, they did hero and my phone ran out of space (luckily i had my ipod), and then it was over and everyone came out to say goodbye :( but monsta x were the only group to run to the end of the stage and bow again THEY’RE SO CUTE I LOVE MONSTA X SO MUCH I STAN THE RIGHT GROUP. i hope, hope, hope they come back down to australia again at some point (they were saying they would!!) and this time to melbourne too bc i would do just about anything to get to see them again. i love them :’)
conclusion
i am sooooooo tired still. and sore. i had to wake up the next morning at 4:30am bc i had a flight back to melbourne at 7am, and it’s great to be back home, but at the same time the post concert depression is so, so real, and i’ve hyped this up for so long that now i’m like what do i do?? what to look forward to now?? no, but really, it was such a wonderful experience, and i really hope that they do kcon australia again next year (this time in melbourne PLEASE I’M POOR). it’s kind of funny bc most of the people i met there weren’t actually from sydney (most were interstate, and there were a lot of melburnians there interestingly enough). but either way, it was kind of awesome that we all came together for this experience, and it was super, super easy to strike up conversations with people, so if you ever go alone, don’t be afraid to do it bc you’re bound to find someone you can latch onto and hang out with even if you’re introverted. also, make sure to dress appropriately (esp if it’s hot: wear sunscreen!! and bring an umbrella). i hate how they kept making us throw out our water to get into the convention/meet and greet centres when it was so important for us to stay hydrated :/ but anyway, that’s enough from me. i’m sorry this is long. if you got to the end, HOW?? it was so much fun and despite the hot sun and the waiting around for hours, i’d do it all over again :D
