At first I hated Farleigh. I'd went into the film knowing nothing. I didn't even realise it was a thriller till I went to bring it up.
So the first half of the movie I was like "hate u, hate u, leave Olly alone, hate u, classist, omg shut up, hate you," then the longer I watched I was like "okay nvm don't hate u but also ur rude shut tf up also snitch "
But by the end of the movie obviously I was like "I take it back omg u were so right even if everything you said was annoying in the moment"
And now I'm slowly starting to feel the need to protect him because obviously.
In short why do I always end up stanning the characters I originally hate?

I've recently watched "Stan and Ollie" (2018), aka the Laurel and Hardy biopic. Tbh, the only reason I watched the film was because (sexy) Rufus Jones (my beloved) was in the film as Bernard Delfonte, and also before I watched it I had very limited knowledge on and was only *slightly* aware of Laurel and Hardy's history.
HOWEVER, after watching it, I can definitely say that I....LOVED IT!! It was quite beautiful too, like I literally cried my eyes out at the ending 😭😭!
All the performances were really nice, especially Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy respectively, and I really enjoyed their chemistry together!! Also, I loved Nina Arianda as Ida Laurel (Stan's wife) and Shirley Henderson as Lucille Hardy (Ollie's wife) respectively too, cuz not only do I love me supportive wives in biopics, plus they were really great too!!
And, ofc, Rufus Jones was GREATLY AMAZING as Mr Bernard Delfonte, I very much enjoyed his scenes!!
Anyway, uhh, I do recommend this film to anyone interested in the Laurel and Hardy lore, it's pretty lovely and warm and nice!! Plus, it's now wanna make me dig into more of the Laurel and Hardy history too, so uhh thanks film!

Cant do a comedy month without looking at a classic comedy duo,and who better then Laurel and Hardy.....Yeah I watched this weeks ago and forgot to review it
This 1933 film follows Stanlio (Stan Laurel ) and Ollio (Oliver Hardy ) who bumble their way into becoming the servents of the singing bandit Fra Diavlo (Denis King ) who seeks to steal an aristocratic couples jewels
Not much to say ,its a fun mix of operatic melodrama and the duos comedy, and I think Denis King makes for a sauve yet intimidating villain.Stan and Ollie get some good gags, especially when Ollie looks like he is gonna be executed
Fun film, reccomend not much to say

Merrily We Roll Along review summary Part 2
Robert Hofler, The Wrap
‘Merrily We Roll Along’ Broadway Review: Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff Lead a Riveting Revival
The troubled Stephen Sondheim musical finally finds its perfect cast
Watching the show on Broadway, I found myself concentrating less on Mendez and Radcliffe’s back-to-back screeds and drawn more to Groff, who almost singlehandedly, and in a very quiet way, makes this revival drive forward while going backward on all eight cylinders. He plays off the over-the-top performances of his two costars — who bring a sly Oliver-and-Hardy chemistry to the stage, Radcliffe being Stan to Mendez’s Ollie. Mendez entertains us with her nasty one-liners and Radcliffe stops the show with his powerful, yet nuanced rendition of “Franklin Shepard, Inc.”
Charley and Mary are telling us in no uncertain terms that Franklin is a major sell-out, but Groff doesn’t play him as a jerk. Instead, he makes the character the quiet eye of the hurricane of resentment (justified or not) swirling around him. For the first time ever, I actually felt the need to protect the guy from his two best friends. After all, there are much, much worse things in life than ending up a successful Hollywood producer of shlock movies. Franklin never sexually harasses anyone, uses the wrong pronoun or votes Republican. By today’s standards, he’d be a pillar of virtue in the film community.
Groff’s portrayal of this unsympathetic character (until well into the second act) recalls the equally inspired casting of Jim Parsons as the bitchy Michael in the first Broadway production of “The Boys in the Band.” Groff and Parsons’ innate likeability gives each actor more than a few minutes of stage time to take an audience by the hand and lead us on their respective character’s journey.
Given a choice to see a show called “Musical Husbands” and “Take a Left,” I’d buy a ticket to “Musical Husbands.” Better yet, I recommend getting a ticket to see this wonderful “Merrily” revival and buy another the following week to enjoy it even more the second time.
Patrick Ryan, USA Today
More than 40 years after notoriously flopping on Broadway, “Merrily We Roll Along” is back with a splendid and shattering revival at the Hudson Theatre starring Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe.
Groff, who last appeared on Broadway in the original cast of “Hamilton,” has never been better than he is here, imbuing a tricky character with tearful sincerity and charm.
"It's our time, breathe it in," Frank sings at the end of the show, as he readies to take on the world with Charley and Mary by his side. The same could be said of "Merrily," which four decades later, finally feels right on time.
David Gordon, What’s On Stage
Sitting comfortably in the Hudson Theatre, this Merrily is one of those transcendent productions I’ll look back on fondly forever.
Radcliffe’s Charley is adorably filled with nervous energy, and he continues to blow the roof off the joint with “Franklin Shepard, Inc.”. Groff beautifully grounds Frank in the reality of a man who has gotten everything he wanted, only to realise that the most important things in his life have completely disappeared. Mendez lives and breathes every single emotional beat to its fullest potential, making a meal out of Furth’s sardonic quips. Watching them sing “Old Friends” transported me to a plane of musical-comedy heaven which I have not visited in a long time, and their idealistic “Our Time” is a genuine tearjerker.
Friedman’s production is a theatrical miracle, finding the heart at the center of this story of dreams, regrets, and good things going, going, gone. Somewhere, its creators are bursting with pride to see their vision fully realised, at long last.
Steven Siskin, NY Stage Review
If Mendez and Radcliffe were already perfect downtown—or perhaps even on the first day in the rehearsal room—Jonathan Groff’s Franklin Shephard has taken a different path. To say the role is difficult is an understatement; like Robert (a.k.a. Bobby baby) in the Sondheim-Furth Company, Franklin is trapped. He stands in the precise center of a crowd that his character dominates, unable to break through his walled-off personality to relate to anyone, imploring somebody—anybody—to “make me aware of being alive.” Groff brought an intriguing element to his performance last winter, not shying away from displaying a Franklin who was cold, cruel, and unlikable. He has now found a way to add a core of desperate sadness and a sense of loss, which makes him the most effective Franklin of the half-dozen I’ve seen.
The show plays like wildfire, ignited from that first blast of overture from that band. It’s a win-win, or perhaps a win-win-win-win. A win for Merrily, yes; a win for Radcliffe, Mendez, and Goff; and a win mostly for Maria Friedman, who created this production with significant success back in 2012 and—in three or four steps along the way—has continued to add layers of sheen so that it no longer plays like an excellent production of a troubled musical but an excellent show all around.
Melissa Rose Bernardo, NY Stage Review
Thankfully, Friedman has found three actors whose charm and genuine connection overrides their characters’ most unpalatable qualities. And since the NYTW production, their performances have only deepened. Groff (Spring Awakening, Hamilton) is perfection as the successful but hollow composer-turned-corporation Frank

Doing this massive Alan Partridge rewatch (still stuck at KMKY because of exams) because I became a fan in this weird way when I watched it all through clips and then episodes in random order and I want to experience it the way it was intended
But then I also want to rewatch Coogan's Run and Paul/Pauline Calf stuff and the Tony Ferrino phenomenon and Saxondale and the various Trips (I was actually rewatching but stopped at Italy so I guess I'll start again)
And at this point why not rewatch the Steve films I like. I saw many of them when I wasn't really aware of him. Luckily he's been in a lot of shit but Philomena, Stan & Ollie, Shepherds & Butchers, Cock & Bull Story and 24-Hour Party People are all worth revisiting (What Masie Knew is good too but can't be bothered), as well as Steve's scene in Coffee & Cigarettes and Marie Antoniette.
So yeah just wanted to announce that I've gone mad and there's no coming back.

aftg x barbie (hear me out)
in honor of the barbie 2023 movie i’ve been marathoning the early/mid 2000’s classics (swan lake, princess & the pauper, iykyk) and naturally i started thinking, what if we made it aftg? O_o
now i cannot write for the life of me so this is just a collection of ideas and headcanons - if there are any other early barbie turned aftg fans, this one's for you
Magic of Pegasus AU
MoP is such an underrated film, its one of the only ones where the main couple doesn’t immediately fall for each other so all the banter and the sass is -immaculate-
the hardest part in casting this one was figuring out who’s gonna be the horse… like someone’s gotta do it. first i thought andrew & aaron as annika & brietta for the twinyard solidarity but neil gives me such annika vibes - i will elaborate - so kevin, sweet prince, its time for u to sprout some wings
So we have Neil as the prince, master figure skater that i’ve now decided he is, goes into town where he’s propositioned by Riko, evil/bastard sorcerer, that if he doesn’t marry him in 3 days everyone in the kingdom is forever turned to stone. alas, he’s rescued by the mysterious stallion that is kevin (im so sorry to the kevin stans out there) to bring him to Cloud Kingdom as a refuge. like in the movie, we find out kevin was once offered the same deal from riko, only when he refused, he was turned into a horse :/
idk if allison or dan would be the cloud queen, they both could fit the role tbh, and maybe matt & renee are their knights? (i’m imagining renee as this valkyrie-type warrior, she’s just so cool)
Cloud Queen, let's say Allison, tells Neil about building the wand of light to break the spell and I can just imagine his face
Allison: Yeah, there’s this legend of a wand, we don’t know if it’s real, and you just have to find a measure of courage, ring of love, and gem of ice lit by hopes eternal flame :D
Neil: you want me to do what
but at his core, he wants to protect his people so ofc he’s gonna do it. Neil & Kevin set off for the Forbidden Forest where in comes Andrew as Aidan. when i tell you annika and aidan are so andreil-coded, like the script literally writes itself!!!
*for context, Neil & Kevin got caught in a rope trap*
Andrew: Tell me, who’s bright idea was it to come to here? Only fools come to the Forbidden Forest.
Neil: And yet, you’re here. :)))))
LIKE CMONNNN neil would absolutely antagonize the very person who clearly has the advantage, it just works.
the whole scene with neil in the giant’s hut outsmarting ollie by taunting him to chain himself to a tree and break free, it fits so well and just to see andrew’s reaction at the end, (”you’re braver than i thought…”) yessir
they recruit andrew, as he’s a blacksmith, to later put the wand together and the parallels in their relationship, the whole thing about needing a second chance to set things right - chef’s kiss.
we can skip over some of the middle plot, there’s a lot of traveling and banter that i could probably talk about all day but cut to the scene where they finally assemble the wand and reverse the spell on Kevin, can u picture for me:
Andrew: That looks good on you, Kevin.
Kevin: Shut up.
thank you.
it gets real juicy from here, once Neil & Kevin and Andrew dramatically part ways (he really doesn’t want to leave them on their own) Riko comes back around for the attack. they fall into the ravine, neil is fucking -pissed- bc no one hurts Kevin like that again and orders the wand to destroy Riko but, gasp, it doesnt work?? neil is desperate at this point, he says fine Riko i’ll marry you but Riko is all bitch you just tried to kill me, how about I just kill you…and buries him under an avalanche
the angst, the beautiful angst of Andrew coming back in on Kevin alone in the ravine because where is neil? this snarky prince who gets under his skin but is also so smart and understands him? they dig neil out from where riko trapped him under an avalanche and just.. “I never should’ve left you”. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
when they’re back in the cloud kingdom and neil is still unconscious:
Andrew, internally: Please wake up, please. I need you.
check me into the ward rn bc i am unheathily obsessed with this.
Neil wakes up, but lo and behold its sunset on the third day. Renee, matt, and dan try to prolong the sunset for neil bc now these are also his people and they’re not gonna let him suffer. We get a fun scene with neil and andrew ice skating their way through Riko’s big mountain, palace, thing.. even in the movie they just love one-upping each other.
we get to the climax where neil has recovered the ‘broken’ wand from Riko’s lair but the gem falls off the cliff (neil would never fumble like that but for the sake of plot, i digress). enter andrew with the second gem he secretly took earlier!! because he’s willing to give up his second chance to make sure neil gets his!!! they undo all of Riko’s spells and cue the very barbie-esque speech that the wand can only work out of love, never hate <3
Neil returns the wand to the Cloud Kingdom for safe keeping and u know, that blacksmith from earlier seems to be real fond of forever staying by his side~
This has gotten pretty long now that i go back thru it lol and this may be for a very niche audience- i’m not sure if i’ve seen any aftg MoP au’s but i just love the concept and merging my old hyperfixations with new ones has been super fun
i would share more of these with other barbie movies but i’m also kinda new to this so lmk which ones were ur favorite or what u think!

I’ve had a thought in my mind for a few days now that I can’t shake off. Does anyone on here think one day we will get a movie, drama or Netflix doc about Ant and Dec??
A few years ago there was that film about Laurel and Hardy called “Stan and Ollie” which covered their careers in tv and also their personal relationship.
There’s also loads of Netflix documentaries coming out recently about celebrities… David Beckham, Robbie Williams etc.
I don’t think we’ll see anything soon but I reckon when the boys retire or god forbid after they’ve gone we will see some kind of documentary or drama based on their career together and life as a whole. Just my thoughts but has anyone else ever thought about this?

What are your favorite musicals? Besides Six and Hadestown, of course
Also also!
Assigne musicals to each arrowfam member. It can be what you think would be their favorites or just something that makes you think of them
besides them, legally blonde and newsies :] legally blonde the musical is better than the movie i will not be silenced. just cannot be topped. and i saw newsies live recently and it kinda changed my fucking brain chemistry, it's also the show that got me INTO musicals! also im so sorry if u actually know me enough to know how insane i am about hadestown and six, no one deserves to be witness to who i become when i talk about them
i've definitely done this in a groupchat but i cant remember if i ever posted it so if not this is a great excuse to actually do so, thank u anon
ollie - (this will ignore in-universe canon references to cats and singin in the rain, tho i do think singin in the rain would be my choice otherwise) hadestown or come from away, unions, romance, and community innit. (i'd add newsies but i think ollie would refuse to watch it out of anti-disney principals. also maybe les mis but i dont feel qualified to say that bc i still havent forced myself to watch the stage version ive only seen the shitty film adaptation ((im so sorry)))
dinah - hate mosts musicals for the principle of it, will however watch chicago any time (but she used to be mine from waitress makes me think of her)
connor - waitress, i dont even have a reason for this im just Right
roy - mamma mia! roy has 3 dads and also great frog were for SURE an abba cover band
mia - heathers and moulin rouge, if u get it u get it if u dont u dont (i also spend about 50% of my time debating mia's relationship with R.E.N.T in my mind so theres that)
emi - outwardly hates them, secretly a legally blonde stan
lian - matilda, yes im mostly choosing this bc she is a child
(these are all incorrect, all of them have the same fave musical and its hit show spider-man: turn off the dark ((i cant lie ollie would fuck with some of the songs in that show, just like me fr)))

Happy 57th Birthday Scottish actress Shirley Henderson.
Shirley was born 24th November 1965 in Forres, Moray, but grew up in Kincardine, Fife, she began performing young and at the age of 13 found herself singing in a boxing ring between bouts after winning a local singing competition going on to sing in the local working men’s clubs on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. Reading through a few interviews I found it interesting that her big days out as a youngster was going to the York Cafe in the town I live, Falkirk, the cafe is still there, but has been through a few changes in ownership since I came here 8 years ago.
Anyway back to the lass herself, after deciding upon acting as a career, she uprooted to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
After graduating in 1986 Henderson embarked upon a stage career that included spells at the National Theatre, the Royal Court, the Traverse, Hampstead, the Citizens, and the Whitehall Theatre.
I first remember her in Hamish Macbeth where she played Isobel Sutherland, who was head over heels in Robert Carlyle's character, though he didn’t know it, she bowed out in the penultimate episode.
There are very different roles that you might remember Shirley from, in my case she played Gail in the two Trainspotting films, if you need another reminder who she was, well remember Spud’s girlfriend and the incident with “dirty” bedding that he wanted to was and got into a tugging contest?
Other film fans will know Shirley as Moaning Myrtle in a couple of the Harry Potter films.  Romcom fans will know her for her role as Jude in Bridget Jones’s Diary  who is always in the ladies’ room crying about her boyfriend.
She has of course been in numerous other shows and films including Wish Me Luck, Casualty, The Bill, Rob Roy, Dr Who, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, Happy Valley and she plays Lucille Hardy, wife of Oliver Hardy about the comedy duo, called Stan and Ollie.
Shirley is a busy lassie, she has recently been in  Lovely Little Farm, on Apple TV,  The  2022 comedy mystery film See how they run, and the excellent Channel 5 drama The House Across the Street.
Next up for oor Shirley is a new adaptation of Tom Jones, from the makers of Poldark, it is of course based on Henry Fielding's 1749 novel,  Dune: The Sisterhood as prequel to the original for HBO Max and a Brit-flic set in London,  The Trouble with Jessica is a comedy about the dissolving relationship of two couples.
Shirley has a great attitude and has said;
“ I never get the tall, blonde, glamorous roles because I'm not tall, blonde and glamorous. I'm more the wee, disturbing characters because of the way I look or sound.” And as a Scot;
“I like doom and gloom with a sense of humour. Maybe it's a Scottish thing, we like to undercut indulgence with a laugh.” And on fame;
“I like to be left alone,” she tells me at one point. “I’m happy to be anonymous and just to lead my own wee quiet life.”

The actor was Alan Hale.
His son would incorporate a lot of Stan and Ollie-style comedy in his most famous work.

REBLOGS:-1- SHORT FILM: URBANCE (2015) DUST -2-ILUSTRATOR Aubrey Beardsley: Withered Spring -3- Luaral and Hardy LIBERTY (1929) -4-Mojave Moon (1996) Angelina Jolie (1196)
SHORT FILM
Tumblr media
“Urbance” is a captivating sci-fi short film that combines Japanese anime and video game influences with a Western urban flair. Directed by Joël Dos Reis Viegas and Sébastien Larroudé, this 8-minute animated film is set in a future where sex is deadly due to an invasive corporation’s rule. Here are the key points: Plot Summary: In a dystopian world, sex means death, and interaction between men and women is strictly regulated. The action centers around an underground nightclub where lost teenagers organize electrifying dance battles and drink illegal N-DORFIN. Organizers try to keep the parties secret from 24/7 surveillance, but the threat of violent intervention from “Mediators,” high-tech corporate police, is constant. Visual Flair: The animation style is gorgeously slick, inspired by anime and Western urban aesthetics. The multi-racial cast and edgy fusion of gangs, drugs, and sex add to its uniqueness. Potential for Cult Status: While not perfect, “Urbance” demands attention due to its ambitious vision and execution. Originally designed as a pilot, it raised over $200,000 Canadian dollars through a successful Kickstarter campaign. Two video games based on the “Urbance” universe are now in development. (AI Copilot) Urbance is a French-Canadian anime project-series created and written by Joel Dos Reis Viegas. On September 22, 2014, the project started off as a Kickstarter campaign targeted to a 16+ gay audience. On November 6, 2014, the project was successfully funded. The first episode premiered in The Pit on the official site on September 24, 2015 and was only available for backers. It was officially released to the public on March 2, 2016. 'Withered Spring' by Aubrey Beardsley, (1872 - 1898) source: enchantedbook origin May 9
Aubrey Beardsley’s illustration “Withered Spring” was created in the Art Nouveau style. It depicts a female portrait and is inspired by a true story. Unfortunately, the specific details of the story behind this illustration are not readily available. Beardsley’s black ink drawings often explored the grotesque, decadent, and erotic, making his work instantly recognizable (AI Copilot)

Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (21 August 1872 – 16 March 1898) was an English illustrator and author. His black ink drawings were influenced by Japanese woodcuts, and depicted the grotesque, the decadent, and the erotic. He was a leading figure in the aesthetic movement which also included Oscar Wilde and James McNeill Whistler. Beardsley's contribution to the development of the Art Nouveau and poster styles was significant despite his early death from tuberculosis. He is one of the important Modern Style figures. Sons of the Desert (1933)
Tumblr media
Stan Laurel as Stan
Oliver Hardy as Oliver
Charley Chase as Charley
Mae Busch as Lottie Hardy
Dorothy Christy as Betty Laurel
Lucien Littlefield as Dr. Horace Meddick, the veterinarian
Tumblr media
Stan and Ollie want to go to the national convention of the Sons of the Desert fraternal lodge in Chicago. Unfortunately Mrs Laurel and Mrs Hardy want to go to the mountains.
Tumblr media
For me, this is Laurel and Hardy at their very best. The storline, though basic, is a much imitated classic. The gags come thick and fast. The slapstick is perfectly executed, and every performer plays their part to perfection. As always with Laurel and Hardy, it's the lovely slow little bits and pieces around the chaotic gags that make it so very good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A particular stand-out scene is Ollie faking his "nervous shakedown" and Stan providing chaos and a vet to help out.
Charley Chase makes the most of his cameo appearance as a rather annoying felow Son of the Desert.
Tumblr media
Special mention should also go to Ty Parvis and Charita Alden of Honolulu Baby fame.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Director William A. Seiter had already been directing films for almost 20 years when Sons of the Desert came out and he's competent and unflashy.
