With Fire Emblem Engage taking over my life, I had to write a fic about the Brodia Brothers!!

Summary: After a devastating event rocks the kingdom of Brodia, Alcryst is forced to reckon with his emotions, something he is not the most equipped to handle alone.

*SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 10 OF FIRE EMBLEM ENGAGE*

Alcryst would have found Destinea Cathedral beautiful if it had not been the place of his father’s death. Despite there no longer being bodies and blood, they reappeared behind every blink. Brodia and Elusia constantly teetered on the edge of war with one another, but he could never have predicted this.

Then again, no one could have predicted the return of the Fell Dragon.

He walked down the main aisle, the arched ceiling and series of stained-glass windows towering over him. Sun poked through the clouds of a fading snowstorm, casting pink and green streaks across the floor. They framed the silhouette standing at the altar. Their allies, although ready to leave and figure out their next move, had agreed to this request.

“Diamant,” Alcryst whispered, standing beside him.

A part of him believed that when Diamant took over as king, something would shift. He would stand taller, grow with the newfound title. Instead, he just looked like his brother—stricken by the aftermath of grief.

All because of Alcryst.

Once upon a time, the young Lord Alcryst was at a horse race. It was very nice and he happened to be there with some of his family. Unfortunately, it seemed that wherever he turned, a journalist was begging to ask a question...

"Lord Alcryst, is it true that your elder brother is courting Lady Ivy of Elusia?"

"Sir, do you have anything to say on the rumors that Viscount Gemsboro is taken now?"

"You there, Lord Diamant's brother! What did your father have to say about your brother's new partner?"

Alcryst happened to look up upon the last question. He couldn't help but grit his teeth when he saw his brother talking to another woman, her back turned towards the crowd but still identifiable by a familiar shade of dark purple hair.

"No, I don't," he said. "If you want to know anything, you can du-"

Lady Citrinne, a relative of the Brodia family, put her hand over Alcryst's mouth to silence him. A bit dejected, Alcryst returned to what he was doing.

"Please let me enjoy this race, at least..."

He snuck a glance again to see that Diamant was sharing a toast with his lady. She was nice, at least, even if the Earl of Elusia was an old foe of his father. And Alcryst at least felt good that he was protecting his brother from the evil journalists.

to be clear i think treehouse makes mostly fine translation decisions overall but they're really weird with names in particular and sometimes just straight up wrong (see ulster in awakening).

a lot of the time they seem to either miss cultural or character context for the names or change them slightly for no discernible reason; "lueur->alear" is a pretty notable one from this game, but there are others (primarily from solm and the enemy team). some changes i like (citrinka->citrinne, staluke->alcryst; both get MORE of the intended meaning across in english than a straight transliteration) but a lot i don't.

8-4's 3H translation wasn't perfect by any means, but the only name they changed was lysithea's surname (from cordelia to ordelia; probably because cordelia is obviously a first name in modern english, whereas riegan and goneril are not).

at least most of fe4's names are set in stone by heroes already, i guess, with the only unusually changed one being erinys (and that obviously being based on the meaning of her original name anyway. though it's kinda weird to give a nordic character a greek name, fe4 does plenty of this sort of thing already)

Playstyle and Abilities

All of Yokkis' Disciplines are terrible, but his Abilities? They make him less bad. To get the best use out of it, he needs to be in the front row, in the center, and your enemy goes to attack him first, which means that, assuming Yokkis is surrounded by Overworlders, he gets an extra 20 in each Discipline. If Yokkis is in the middle row and used as a caster, he's great, you can even use him in an Earth Focused deck, with Staluk or Crawsectus or Maglax. But for every Creature you lose, Yokkis gets 5 less in each Discipline. If you want to use his ability, your enemy needs to attack him first, before any of your other Creatures. But, you can't move Yokkis forward to attack, because then he is only supported by 2 Creatures, getting an extra 10 as opposed to 20. He's meant to be a defensive creature. But, an easier way to raise all of his stats is to equip him with the Gigantrooper. base 70 in each, and 70 Energy at the cost of losing his ability. Use him as a caster. Problem solved. Or, if he is equipped with an item called Citadel Fragments, he gets 5 in each Discipline and 5 Energy for each element he has. Playing him defensivley in a Location called Stronghold Morn, which gives all engaged Creatures all elements, Yokkies ends up with 65-75 Energy, 30-50 in each stat, plus maybe up to 20 more in each depending on surrounding allies. Meaning at most he could have...70 in each Discipline. the same as Gigantrooper which requires less setup. Using the mechsuit instead of the Stronghold Strategy means he doesn't get 5 Energy, but, oh well? It's a more consistent strategy.

Biography

Yokkis lives in Gloomuck Swamp, and just about any Creature, friend or foe, don't stick around. Yokkis has booby traps/pranks/nets everywhere to catch tresspassers, and he will constantly laugh at and mock them, all for his entertainment. Because he's goofing around, no one takes him seriously, which leads to them underestimating him.
