For the heck of it, since I had to take it apart anyway, the Aileron bathroom.
Observable features
1 window (for ventilation?) (the window's sprites also aren't aligned correctly and allows you to see through the cracks) You can also examine the back of the house from the outside for an uninteresting message about seeing the bathroom.
2 fairly large bottles of something
2 wash cloths (or perhaps the one on top is a bar of soap)
2 folded towels
2 hanging towels (with the usual Tales green stripe)
Water heater? with a pipe leading from the wall (the only thing we see outside is a well, which has nothing visibly attached to it and is pretty detached from the house)
Fairly large and deep wooden bath that could comfortably fit more than 1 person
Washtub and stool implies that the bath might only be meant for soaking, not washing
There is no drainage system seen on the floor or in the bath, though (not even on the obscured side of the bath's sprite)
If you examine the washtub, you'll obtain an old (loser) ice candy stick, implying that Lilith or Thomas go to Neuestadt sometimes and get ice candy while they're there
Bath mat
An unseen but clearly active light source in the bath's room that focuses on the dividing wall
Sink
Medicine cabinet
Hanging hand towel
Bench-type toilet that is installed separately from the surrounding bench pieces, and may not be a flushing type
Unknown thing hanging from the ceiling in the toilet's room. A light?
The most useless privacy wall ever for the toilet's room
Male villager who insists he's only passing through, who one of the guide books says is a lifelong creeper that Lilith will never escape from, jfc
The camera doesn't move at all down here, so some elements are always hidden by others.
Outside texture (daytime for easier viewing)
Spare paper sits on a shelf
Paper roll on the wall to the right of the toilet
Bin beside the sink
Full view of the toilet
TOD's level of technology is difficult to grasp. They have stuff and architecture from a lot of different centuries. In reality, when things were invented versus when they became common across most households are also very different dates, so that's another thing to think about. But uh. Yay, indoor plumbing of some level is common enough that even old-fashioned family homes in farming villages have it.
Extra, useless info: While recovering the Eye of Atamoni, you're only able to visit Lienea on Leon's Side. If you try on Stahn's side, Leon will stop you when you wander too far away from Neuestadt. If Leon isn't in the party, Stahn won't let you leave the city.
If anyone wants other rooms done, I'll try.
Oh, I also got an actual shot of the bathroom in the manor. I'll add it to its post. An observation on it relevant to the Aileron bathroom, though... they bothered to include (unseen) toilet paper in the Aileron bathroom, but not the Gilchrist one lol

Tales of Crestoria Part 2 - Side Stories
Side Story Cress
I actually quite like this story! I found it saddening to hear that Cress' master Mibaru became a monster because Cody took advantage of him when he was severely injured after fighting the monster in the forest, and sold him to a place that does human experiments where they transferred his soul to the monster Mibaru tried to kill but lost to. It's pretty crazy and sad. The only thing I'm glad about is that Cress now knows Cody was a bad guy... Emil and Marta are pretty cute. It's interesting how Emil houses a monster spirit though, it's a nice guy too lol. Omg, I can't believe the villagers killed Mibaru... I mean, I can believe it because the monsters in this story are definitely the humans more than anything, and really, the general populace are as worse as everyone else tbh lol, but omggg, I wanted to strangle them when they tried to divert responsibility for killing Mibaru (when they realised it was him after he was dying and changed back to human form) by blaming Cress for not telling them the monster was Mibaru. Like, excuse you? They all told you guys to stop and what did you do? You just kept killing him, even though he didn't fight back, and even though he was protecting the village from monsters the whole freaking time! Honestly, I'm so glad Kanata and everyone ditched this village, because I honestly do not care about them. They're all so utterly selfish. I'm happy Cress made them realise the gravity of their actions, but I'm still mad. They don't feel guilty for killing Mibaru, they just don't want to be seen as "bad guys", ugh. I feel so sorry for Mibaru. He gave his life and everything to protect this village and they're all a bunch of ungrateful people. Like, I know Mibaru is glad that the villagers are united enough to even fight off a monster they're scared of, but seriously, I'd be more happy if they could use their brains too. Anyway, I'm glad Cress is leaving the shit village and going with Emil and them to prevent other people like Mibaru coming into being. I think I'd love to see more of this adventure too!
Side Story Velvet
I wonder how Velvet feels... She lives only to exact revenge on the people who killed her brother, and now she's met a boy that looks just like her brother and dreams of adventures just like him.. Wow, the tale of the sisters Presea and Alicia sound pretty terrible and dramatic with initially Alicia doing everything she could to save Presea from her illnesses (causing Presea's growth to stunt from one of the "cures"). Then, it ended up with Alicia getting in trouble when she worked for a nobleman and caught the attention of the son who was a bit crazy and locked her up because he wanted her, and then she killed (probably) him and even got the Stain of Guilt, but enforcers never came because Presea cut off Alicia's arm to remove it. Like whoa, dang, you can do that? Ohh, so incarnations are physical manifestations of sin (special monsters?) and they absorb the sinner into themselves? Oh no.. The reason why Alicia even became an incarnation/monster was because Presea cut off the Stain of Guilt...otherwise, she would have stayed human since it's supposed to prevent them from turning into incarnations... I feel so terrible for her...she practically killed her sister who basically gave her life to help find cures for her..
I find it pretty saddening how in the end, it really was impossible for Alicia to ever come back. I feel so bad for Presea. But at least she got a letter of her last words telling her the things she wants Presea to fulfill for her. Surprisingly, Laphicite(?) didn't end up following Velvet on her journey to rid of these incarnations, but I guess someday he might since he wants to get stronger. These side stories have been pretty nice~ It was interesting to know that Velvet’s journey seems to be on destroying these incarnations and the things or people that caused her brother’s death, so in a way, it sounds like a selfish revenge story. but at the same time it isn’t.
Side Story Farah
I thought this story was going to be more light-hearted and fun since Farah is acting like a superhero and Captain Chat is a nice pirate that really knows how to lead and motivate people even though she's so small haha. I found it really funny how she got the villagers who became bandits to respect her and want to follow her lol. But otherwise, she's really smart! She knew that the villagers wouldn't be good news if they came into contact with them (since they're seen as bandits), so she told her lackets to always record with their vision orbs if they were to come in contact, which really helped! Because these crazy hasty villagers really wanted to condemn them more because they were bandits than because they supposedly did something wrong. It's nice to know how beneficial these vision orbs are to clearing your name, as it is to frame you lol.
I didn't expect Farah's story to be so terrible though. When she was young, she never understood the ramifications of putting a recording on vision central, so when she saw this kid who was always a bully to other kids continue his antics because he thought children couldn't be condemned, she decided to teach him a lesson by recording how arrogant he was about it all and putting it for everyone to see, causing him to be condemned and thus disappearing. She's felt guilty about it all this time because her reliance on the vision orb caused her to not understand the gravity of using it, so it's really cool to see her perspective of all this, and why she wants to make the villagers and everyone realise that the responsibility doesn't lie with the enforcers who take them away, but the people themselves who condemn them, they are the ones who are essentially "killing" them. I think Farah's journey (whilst "forcing" Reid to come along with her lol) would be a good one. She wants to go around to places helping people understand the true meaning of condemning people, so that they won't have regrets like her. I think he a really meaningful journey! I think I might like this story the most just because of Farah haha.
Side Story Leon
Ooh Leon's story is actually cuter than I thought! It's interesting that Stahn's soul is captured inside his sword so Leon's trying to find a way to get him out and back into his own body. It's kinda funny to see Leon "talk to himself" since no one else can hear Stahn except him and the other people who are kinda similar to them? But I see, Leon was helping out the king and stuff because he knew something that could help them, but since that's kinda backfired now after saving all the kids they were experimenting on...not that the king would probably help them anyway so whatever to that idea lol. Anyway, Leon really is strong huh? To the point that Stahn was always trying to catch up to him ever since they were kids. It's kinda cute.
I think the coolest thing was Leon recognising that the fake Stahn wasn't actually "his inner self" coming out and wanting to defeat Leon no matter what etc, but instead it was just a fake copy of Stahn that this evil mirror or whatever thought of Stahn as, when Stahn was much more than that. It was really cool to see how honest Leon was about respecting Stahn for being able to do things he couldn't do, such as join as a captain for this neighbourhood watch for this village he randomly came across and ended up protecting. He "died" chasing after this thief, but it's pretty amazing how pure Stahn's heart is and how kind he is. I also love how much Leon respects him, they have such a cute relationship! I think their journey will be pretty fun hahaha.
Overall, I have to say, in a sense, the side stories might be even more interesting than the main story! Hahaha, I guess I love the different objectives they all have for setting out on their respective journeys, whilst bonding with the people that are important to them, it’s basically their own main story and I really enjoy that. For now, I think I might like Leon’s story the most because I think he and Stahn seem to be such good buddies and I would love to see more of that, otherwise I really like Cress too! Hopefully we’ll get continuations for these soon~

A portion of the brains of people living at an Antarctic research station shrank during a long stay, a small study finds. Social isolation and the unchanging white landscape may be to blame.
“It’s very exciting to see the white desert at the beginning,” says Alexander Stahn. A physiologist, he began the research while working in Berlin, Germany. “But then it’s always the same.”
A crew of eight scientists and a cook lived and worked at the German research station Neumayer III for 14 months. Although joined by other scientists during the summer, the crew alone endured the long darkness of polar winter. Temperatures can plummet as low as –50° Celsius (–58° Fahrenheit). Such harsh conditions make it impossible for people to leave.
This creates a lot of isolation. That and the static environment create the closest thing on Earth to what a space explorer might experience, says Stahn. He now works at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Stahn wants to understand how long-term travel in space might affect the brain.

Animal studies suggest similar conditions can harm the hippocampus (Hip-oh-KAMP-us). This brain area plays a big role in memory and navigation. For example, rats housed alone or in bare cages are worse at learning than rats housed with other rats or in enhanced cages, Stahn says. But whether this is true for people is unknown.
Stahn and his colleagues imaged each team member’s brain before and after their polar stay. Over that stay, part of the hippocampus in the crew’s brains shrunk by an average of 7 percent. That’s compared to healthy people who didn’t live at the station. Stahn’s team reported its findings online December 4 in the New England Journal of Medicine. Stahn says there are good reasons to think these changes can be reversed. Stress, such as isolation, can affect the hippocampus. But the brain area also responds to stimulation. That might include interacting with new people and exploring new sites.

@pranking-masters
Lyra had meant to travel back, she had always meant for that to happen, but she hadn’t intended to go back as far as she had. She had been frightened and excited at the thought, her fingers trembling slightly as she put the chain around her neck, holding the time turner in her hands. She took a deep breath, eyes closed and spun, counting as she spun. She felt disorientated and she had opened her eyes, the colours blurring around her, shapes indistinct. She had felt a sickness, bile rising in her throat. She had to keep herself from throwing up, she couldn’t lose the contents of her stomach now.
She had collapsed on the ground, fists clenched, sucking in deep lungfuls of cold, clean air. The next several days had passed in a blur of their own and she had spun so many webs, so many lies, deceived so many people. She didn’t like lying, she wasn’t naturally inclined to it, but it was necessary. She had to keep her secrets, she couldn’t let anyone know who she was, where she had come from and why. In this time, Lyra Carina Rosier didn’t exist, she hadn’t yet been born. Instead, she assumed a new identity still similar enough to her own that the lie was easier to swallow, easier to tell. Lyra Carina Schmidt, a fifth year Ravenclaw (the hat had kept her in her house). She had told Dumbledore that she was transferring from Durmstrang and he had appeared to believe her to an extent but there was a small amount of doubt that she thought she could detect within his expression. He had naturally asked her a lot of questions and she had answered them the best that she could without giving anything away. When he had asked her why she had left, she had drawn on her knowledge of her own beloved city’s fractured history. It felt terrible to use something as awful as this but she needed to do it, she needed everything to be plausible.
She had found it difficult at first, she had to pretend that she didn’t recognise the castle or any of it’s features or teachers. She had managed to pull it off quite well as far as she was concerned. There had been a few wobbly, rocky moments and she always ducked her head, hiding her face with her hair whenever she saw Severus Snape. That had been one of the hardest parts for her, seeing her intimidating Potions Professor as a student, the same age as her. He still had that same look on his face and it gave her the chill’s and not in the good way. The first time she had seen her father, she had stopped dead in her tracks, the breath stolen from her lungs. She hadn’t quite fully planned what she was going to do to change his fate and subsequently her own. There wasn’t much that she could do at least, not until he had met her mother and she had been conceived. If she moved too quickly then she might prevent herself from being born. It was confusing at times, even for her.
There were a lot of people who had been interested in her, who had asked questions and wanted to get to know her a little. One of the things that struck her was how people were friendlier even if they still seemed a bit wary. She had struggled throughout her whole time at Hogwarts, only finding friends in Slytherin and even then that was limited primarily to Draco and Blaise. She had certainly found it easier in her later years once Luna had joined Ravenclaw. They were both oddities.
Time had passed and Lyra had integrated herself into the year and had quickly established her excellence and skill in Charms. There was something familiar and heartwarming about Professor Flitwick getting excited about her Charms work, just as he had in her own time. Potions classes were boring, she didn’t particularly like Professor Slughorn. As terrifying as he had been, Severus Snape had been a good teacher.
She had thrown herself into her studies during the week but during the weekends, she took the time to go for a long walk around the Black Lake and the grounds in the morning after breakfast. Depending on how she was feeling in the afternoon, she would either read or she would go flying. She loved the freedom of flying, she always had done. That morning she had eaten a few slices of toast, drank some pumpkin juice and had wrapped her scarf loosely around her neck and had walked out of the great hall and out onto the grounds. She had slipped her hands into her pockets and sang a little under her breath as she walked, completely oblivious to the prospect of anyone around her. It was early, it was a Saturday and there hadn’t been many other students around and it was highly unlikely she was going to run into anyone.

Since I got bored and started re-reading Defenders of Terrakyu (my cheesy “turn my muses into Magical Girls” fanfic), I found this hilarious gem from the Fright Night chapter.
Context: Rutee takes Emmy (her future daughter) into a haunted house.
“This isn’t scary…not half as much as Elraine!” she exclaimed.
Rutee looked at her. “Who is Elraine?”
“Not a nice lady!” Emmy replied. “Dunno how she and Rea-Rea are sisters!”
(Emmy, being my OC younger sister for Kyle, is basically Rutee 2.0 like Kyle is Stahn 2.0...).

Scientists’ brains shrank after a long stay in Antarctica

Since the post about the PS1 version of the manor went well, why not take a closer look at the bedroom in the remake? We still don't know whose room it really is, but Hugo comes out of it when you first enter the manor, and Leon heads up the stairs when saying he'll be in his room, and he comes from its general direction in a hallucination of Rutee's. With it being simplified so much, it's really anyone's guess whose room it actually is. These are the sacrifices of streamlining.
Anyway, details! Both visible and invisible.
First off, the things that are easy to see from this screenshot alone.
The (currently open) curtain around the bed for added privacy
The books aren't kept especially tidy
There's a piece of paper left on the desk with something on it. You can't examine it.
There's a picture frame on a shelf, turned to face the wall. This is an entirely different asset from the one in the foyer, which just happens to be turned away from the player's view, so it's likely this is on purpose. Whatever the picture is of, it's good to remember that the picture in the foyer is of the whole Katrea/Gilchrist family, and it's displayed openly.
The tissue box on the bedside table lol
And now things that you can't see.
There's a towel hung up in the bathroom somewhere entirely off camera
The bathtub is way bigger than the camera angle implies
The full painting on the wall
Full details of the coats in the armoire (A big strong artist should totally draw Leon or Hugo wearing those)
Full details of all the rugs
(Edit: Full shot of the bathroom!)
And now you might have noticed that all of these are isometrically oriented sprites instead of the usual top-down textures you'd expect from a 3D environment that looks like this. That's just how TOD's remake does things for a lot of areas. I guess it makes the art style easier to keep consistent, but it sounds like a pain to keep the skewing effect looking good across all rooms that use it.
By the way, if anyone wants something similar done for other areas, let me know which and what parts of it you're interested in specifically.
Oh, while we're at it, let's make a useless list of observable features in the most likely candidate for Leon's room from the PS1 version. We really don't need to, but whatever.
A whopping five different sets of drawers that Ori!Stahn is too polite to snoop through
A giant table meant for one
Two potted plants, neither of which would be in the general line of sight of someone sitting in either of the chairs (90 degrees to your left/right doesn't count), sitting on either of the window sills, or laying in bed
One trash can beside the desk, and one trash can beside the bed (They are specified to be trash cans in-game. It is not a chamber pot.)
A clock or radio on the desk. I'd sooner guess clock from the two hands.
A useless little nook that only houses one of the potted plants
A Marian She is not a room fixture, sorry
Oh, you clicked it? Okay. Here's my theory of where Leon sleeps....
On this couch in the dining room because that's the room where he spends all his free time anyway

@tales-aesthetic I completely understand this. These games have saved lives. I'm glad they helped you get through a rough time. They did for me too.
Let me go ahead and give my answer. I'll give a shortened version.
When I was in 4th grade my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer. It was after my mom and him split up. The hospitals werent good down here so he was flown to Philadelphia (our home city) for better comfort and better treatment. It progressed to far, though. I bought Tales of Destiny when he got sick and played it through the entire sickness. It helped me cope with my father dying and helped me deal with his death. I was constantly playing Destiny when he was in the hospital because it was the only thing that worked to help me to stay afloat. He got so sick and became a vegetable and couldn't move or talk. He basically looked dead already but his heart was still beating. The last time I saw him I told him about the game... I ended up breaking down amd crying because I knew it was the last time I would speak to him. They took me out of the room. They gave took us back to where we were staying (a relative) and they sat me down in front of the tv and gave me the ps1 controller. They said to keep pushing and it would be okay... I played all night and it saved me from a dark place. Well my dad was sent home cause the hospital couldn't do anything anymore and they basically gave him his last days in the house with a in home nurse giving him pain meds. I played Destiny by his bed... He couldn't talk or move still. But I felt like he was watching me and I was telling him everything I was doing... I beat the game just an hour before he passed... It was almost like he was hanging on for me to accomplish beating the game before letting go. Like he wanted to be there and be proud of me. They said he could hear but idk if he could or even process what I was saying. I told him I beat the game... And not long after he went into critical condition. They took me out of the room as he died... I'm crying right now saying this so I'm going to wrap it up... But at his funeral I said he was my hero like Stahn was. When I got home from the funeral I started a new game on Destiny. It was like he was still next to me when I started over and to this day it has a comfort to me because I relate it to the last time he was beside me and how he was proud and hung on for me to beat the game. It was probably just coincidence but that game helped me cope with his death. It kept me from a deeper depression. With every Tales release it pulled me out of depression. I tried to commit suicide and failed a week before Xillia came out. Idk what happened but Xillia pulled me out of that pit because when I beat the game I felt happy. I felt like life was worth living because I could be like jude and gather courage and keep going. These games literally saved my life. They mean the world to me. I have lost a bunch of people close to me. Grandparents and friends... And each time I turned to this series to help me cope and it always worked. That's why Destiny is my favorite game because I still feel like he is watching over me as I play. I know it's cheesy... I just miss him. And that's why I still constantly play Destiny, especially when I'm down. I love everything about these games and what they've done for me.
I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound depressing but it's really a good thing. I wish Namco/Bamco knows how much these games mean to some people and what they've done for people.
Tales of series question!
Why do you enjoy the games?
I want to know why you’re all fans of the series and what it means to you!

Socially isolated and faced with a persistently white polar landscape, a long-term crew of an Antarctic research station saw a portion of their brains shrink during their stay, a small study finds.
“It’s very exciting to see the white desert at the beginning,” says physiologist Alexander Stahn, who began the research while at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. “But then it’s always the same.”
The crew of eight scientists and researchers and a cook lived and worked at the German research station Neumayer III for 14 months. Although joined by other scientists during the summer, the crew alone endured the long darkness of the polar winter, when temperatures can plummet as low as –50° Celsius and evacuation is impossible. That social isolation and monotonous environment is the closest thing on Earth to what a space explorer on a long mission may experience, says Stahn, who is interested in researching what effect such travel would have on the brain.
Animal studies have revealed that similar conditions can harm the hippocampus, a brain area crucial for memory and navigation (SN: 11/6/18). For example, rats are better at learning when the animals are housed with companions or in an enriched environment than when alone or in a bare cage, Stahn says. But whether this is true for a person’s brain is unknown.
The German Neumayer III research station in Antarctica sits atop 16 hydraulic supports, which are adjusted to adapt to shifting snow cover.

Stahn, now at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and his colleagues used magnetic resonance imaging to capture views of the team members’ brains before their polar stay and after their return. On average, an area of the hippocampus in the crew’s brains shrank by 7 percent over the course of the expedition, compared with healthy people matched for age and gender who didn’t stay at the station, the researchers report online December 4 in the New England Journal of Medicine.
But there are good reasons to believe that this change is reversible, Stahn says. While the hippocampus is highly vulnerable to stressors like isolation, he says, it is also very responsive to stimulation that comes from a life filled with social interactions and a variety of landscapes to explore (SN: 11/6/18).

i have so many aus that live in my head that i haven’t managed to make happen in the real world here is a partial list:
vesperia au where the gang drives around scooby doo-style debunking local paranormal myths with science.
symphonia au where colette is a werewolf. that’s literally all i have for this one, just that colette is a werewolf.
xillia bowling au. team jude vs team gaius in league bowling. this has existed since before xillia 2 came out but i’ve modified it since then with ludger as the dude who works the counter handing out shoes and stuff because even in aus he’s broke.
legendia au where will and grune are de facto dad and mom of a kind of boarding house/school for juvenile delinquents where the others are all sent for various reasons.
high school abyss au where natalia is overachieving school president plus head of the drama club which she maneuvers into putting on the star of ispania with herself as the lead.
destiny au where stahn and rutee are expecting their first kyle and stahn submits rutee to a reality show where they find your biological family and hilarity ensues because hugo is times a billion the most dysfunctional. the swordians are dogs so also there are dogs.
neo-noir zestiria au where pseudo-femme fatale alisha comes to PI rose for help finding sorey, who has gone missing. i can’t figure out what happened to sorey which is a bit of a stumbling block.
softball au for odin sphere where mercedes and gwendolyn are captains of rival high school softball teams. also there is a loooooot of dysfunctional family drama, and by drama i mean comedy.
odin sphere as midsummer night’s dream.
four words: mr. wright’s murder mysteries.
elizabeth comstock was brigid tenenbaum until burial at sea ruined everything, au where burial at sea never happened because it runs counter to the entire philosophy of the series. i’m salty about burial at sea. that’s not an au.
there’s the citcom but at least that’s been partially written.
(insert lanthanide and actinide series of greek myth aus here)
