"An evening of sheer theatrical enchantment," wrote Robert Garland in the Journal-American of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel, which opened on April 19, 1945 at the Majestic Theater.
After the huge success of Oklahoma! two years earlier, the new musical was the most eagerly awaited theatrical event of the season. But, despite superficial similarities, Carousel was darker than Oklahoma!, with an onstage suicide, an unsympathetic leading man, and domestic violence. Tellingly, it ran for less than half the number of performances of the earlier, sunnier show (890 as opposed to 2,212). But many critics have since acclaimed it as Rodgers & Hammerstein's greatest work.
Above, Jan Clayton and John Raitt (the latter, then unknown, making his sensational Broadway debut), the original Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow, in the show's opening scene.

From the Tehran Times Website this Corpse Bride stage production, directed by Omid Reza Sepehri, was held at the Espinas Palace Hotel back in May 2019. As far as I know there is no footage of this production and to be frank it's a crime.
UPDATE: There’s content from the Director’s Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CPrPiioAIiK/

My father is totally obsessing on the new Shōgun TV series from FX. It’s based on a novel from 1975 by a white guy, which isn’t necessarily the kind of thing I would usually go in for; I am often suspicious of fiction about Japan written by foreigners. But, because my dad is so into it, I started reading more about the story, and it turns out that the novel was also adapted into a flop Broadway musical in 1990, which I find absolutely fascinating and I must know more.

Miranda, y'all been doing too much in too short a time, and the quality of your work has been spiraling down the can.
I used to love your stuff. Hamilton. Moana.
Tumblr media
But now it's to the point where I hear you're acting in something or you wrote music for something, and I'll actively avoid it.
Please take a much needed rest so you can recharge your creative batteries.
Tumblr media
Otherwise your next project is going to be complete shit.

Cole Porter's final musical, Silk Stockings, opened on February 24, 1955 at the Imperial Theater. Loosely based on the story and film Ninotchka, it starred Hildegard Neff and Don Ameche. Also in the cast were Gretchen Wyler, David Opatoshu, and a young Julie Newmar. The most famous song from it is "All of You."

We have exactly a fortnight to go through the five stages of heartbreak before THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT arrives. 💔 Thankfully, Taylor and Apple Music made these playlists to prepare us.
Press play and let us know what stage you’re in. 🥲
