Fighter #14 - Bowser
- He’s jealous of how long Charizard can use Flamethrower. If Bowser uses Fire Breath for too long, he’ll gas out.
- Whenever he's super angry, his footsteps will shake the whole floor. There've been plenty of times in which the Koopalings get scared and think there’s an earthquake before realizing that dear ol’ dad just got beat by Mario again.
- Incineroar has become a good friend of his, and is also a great wrestling coach. The two of them often train and practice wrestling moves together.
- If the Koopa King ever needs some time to himself, he’ll find a secluded spot and tuck away inside his shell. He likes going behind bushes the most because the other fighters have a lesser chance of finding him there. No one has discovered his hiding spot…yet.
- If anyone messes with his kids, they're getting a giga knuckle sandwich straight to the face. He's very protective of them when they're in Smash, mainly because there's so many fighters who could easily hurt them.
- The villains tease and mess around with each other so much to the point where it’s borderline bullying. Once, Ridley wrapped his tail around Bowser’s leg and tugged it back as he walked past, causing the Koopa King to face-plant. It takes a lot to damage Bowser, but considering Ridley’s strength, that really hurt.
- Incineroar let him try some Poke Beans once, and he actually really likes them. Bowser’s not sure what that says about him, though. After tough matches, Incineroar always brings some to share.
- During the summer, when the fighters have cookouts outside, Bowser is always in charge of the barbeque. Put him in front of the grill and he’ll come back with some of the best burgers, hot dogs, and ribs the fighters have ever tasted. Typically, he’s not good at cooking, so it’s a mystery as to how he can get it to be so good.
- Every Friday night, he’ll play Rummy and Poker with Wario, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. Wario always wants to play for money, but the other three know better and would rather play for fun. Every now and then, King K. Rool might join in as well.
- Bowser LOVES classic rock and hair metal, especially from the 80s. He usually has it playing in the background whenever he’s playing cards with the other villains.
- If the Koopalings’ clown cars are broken, he’ll not only fix them, but he’ll add new, cool weapons that he thinks they’ll like.
- He’s still smitten with Peach and has a little notebook in which he writes down different ideas for asking her out. If he decides to stick with a plan, he’ll usually have Meta Knight and King Dedede help him out with it.
- More than anything, Bowser cares deeply about being a good father to the Koopalings and constantly worries that someone or something will affect how they view him. If he loses a match, will they think he’s too weak? If he sides with Mario, will they think he’s gone soft? If he does something too evil, will they get scared and turn on him? What do other fighters say about him when he’s not around? Do they tell them good things, bad things, or something in between? Or do they, perhaps, say nothing at all? Bowser’s children love him, and he knows that, but he still can’t help but worry.
- Every time someone complains about the Koopalings’ antics, Bowser can’t help but chuckle. If they think one silly prank is bad, then they don’t want to see how they behave back home.
- Various fighters have mistaken him for a turtle upon first meeting him, but his reactions were vastly different depending on who it was and how they were saying it. Fighters like Lucas and Pit innocently believed that he was a giant turtle, to which he politely explained to them that he was something much different. Fighters like Ridley and Sephiroth, on the other hand, practically mocked him about it, which sent the Koopa King into a fiery fit of rage.
- Despite his wedding plans having been foiled, he still really wants to marry Peach. The Koopalings know that she’s not their real mother, but they still refer to her as such, which breaks his heart even more. He gets really infuriated if a fighter tries reminding them that Peach isn’t actually related to them.
- Kazooie really has it out for him for some reason. Banjo’s fine, but Kazooie does not like Bowser at all, going so far as to leave him “presents” outside his bedroom door.
- When the Koopalings are playing with some of the other younger fighters, they’ll often rope Bowser into the fun as well. This has caused him to form some unlikely bonds with fighters like Ness, Lucas, Villager, and Toon Link.
- They didn’t like each other initially, but over time, Bowser and K. Rool have become as close as brothers. Sure, their egos cause them to fight sometimes, but they’ll always have each other’s backs.
- Bowser is fully aware that he has a short temper and has actually been trying to keep it in check more often. He's making progress, albeit not very much.
- Nowadays, Bowser can keep his Giga form under control, but back then, there were many times in which he lost control as Giga Bowser and nearly destroyed the entire stage. It'd get so bad that both Master Hand and Crazy Hand would have to step in.
- It took him a while to adjust to the fact that there was another Roy in the mansion who was also essentially a prince.
- Knowing how many retro characters there are both on the roster and working as Assist Trophies, he silently prays that his imposter “twin” doesn’t show up. Bowser doesn’t know who that guy is or where he came from, but for a while he falsely referred to himself as “Bowser’s brother” and “the Duke of the Koopas”. One day, he just disappeared, which freaked him out even more. Will he ever return again? Bowser hopes not.
- Because Wario has a monstrous appetite, Bowser is often caught up in schemes to sneak him some extra food (which he'll only agree to if he gets his fair share of the grub). They almost always fail, though.
- Despite all of their differences, Bowser has actually become good friends with the other villains. Well, most of them. Sephiroth and Kazuya haven’t warmed up to him yet, and Dark Samus just freaks him out.
- However, their friendship does not mean that they don’t fight. The villains are all pretty hot-headed and prideful, so arguments break out frequently among them. Out of all of them, Bowser finds himself arguing with K. Rool and Ganondorf the most.
- One time, there was a gopher infestation in the gardens, and of all fighters, Master Hand decided to send Bowser, Ness, and Ike to deal with it. They were a heavily dysfunctional trio, but after a lot of trial and error, they managed to get it done.
- Bowser has his own giant scratching post that he’ll take his anger out on. It’s a miracle that thing is still in one piece.
- As feeble as he thinks Toad is, Bowser can’t help but admire his courage. No matter what, he’s always willing to stick up for people, especially Princess Peach. Unlike most others, Toad doesn’t cower in fear or run away upon crossing Bowser’s path. In fact, he’ll step straight into it if it means protecting someone from harm. Despite the two being on opposing sides, Bowser can’t help but have a weird respect for him.
- Bowser thought that since he had so many spikes on his back that he couldn’t possibly be used as a stepping stool, but he was proven wrong when Yoshi needed something on the top shelf of the fridge and the Koopa King was the only one around to help him. Ever since then, Yoshi, Jigglypuff, and even Olimar have used him to give them a boost on several occasions.
- One time, as a prank, Lemmy painted his shell blue while he was sleeping. Unbeknownst to him, that paint was a special permanent type and wouldn’t come off no matter what Bowser tried to do. The only way they managed to take it off was to have Robin cast some spell on it.
- His favorite song from the Smash soundtrack is King Bowser - Super Mario Bros. 3. It's literally his theme, but made better with all of the sick metal riffs—how could he not love it?

How are things in Heaven in this au, with the Exermination now public knowledge
It's not public knowledge yet in this AU. I didn't know it was officially exposed to all of Heaven in cannon but let's ignore my ignorance lol.
My AU's Heaven has a way of smoothing things over which helps keep the few informed souls and angels in line. Normally these techniques help new souls who have traumatic deaths keep calm. Please note that this info will probably never come up again.
Angelic sent: just like how Hell has an intrinsic smell so does Heaven but it comes from Angels. The smell calms down any negative emotions but can't get rid of them. In this case panic over the Exterminations is kept low and nobody feels the need to spread the information. This sent has to be purposefully shut off but doing so is uncomfortable so Heaven is filled with the stuff. It smells like comfort.
2. Decontamination Area: A soft place where souls are ferried off after going through the gates if they show any signs of stress. This is also a second area were souls can be reunited with loved ones. An evaluation takes place around the time Peter calls a soul's name.
I'd like to point out that St. Peter's job is basically useless so I gave it a point. He does not do a song and dance every time someone comes in as much as I wish he did. He'd have such a backlog of souls and no time for a lunch break. Everybody who shows up at the gates are meant for Heaven so why is he checking his giga logbook? Everyone destined for Hell just gets thrown down there automatically. Oof.
Hopefully nobody is mad at that. ilu Peter. You're such a cute character but you need more screen time for me to do anything with you that's not... well... ya know.

Hi all, help a self pub writer out?
Hugo voting season is upon us. While I know that the public reputation of the awards is Big Yikes these days, I still want to take this time to inform everyone that I do have one work eligible for best novel, which is my book Skin Deep!
Please, if anyone has some space left over on their ballot, think of me! And if you like queer supernatural romantic suspence in general, check it out at https://blanchetmarie.com/en/books/skin-deep/
It’s got:
- Selkies
- A hot couple that saw you across the bar and like your vibe (in a poly way)
- Mysteries
- A murder investigation
- Magic
- Bi yearning (tm)
- Closed door romance
- Excessive romanticization of the St. Lawrence River
- AND it’s available in either french or english! (Both were written at the same time but I consider the french version the OG because, among other things, I could do more interesting stuff with character voice in french AND in french the St. Lawrence gets a special word to indicate it’s not a mere river, it’s a fleuve. Justice for the St. Lawrence!)
Also, if anyone else has a novel that is eligible and would like some publicity, I have some space left on my own voting ballot AND I have access to the giga excel spreadsheet a decent amount of the votership uses to track what books are eligible, so I could totally add yours on there :) :) self-pub solidarity heck yeah

Twas the night before Christmas, when throughout the sekai's Not a creature was stirring, no girls and no guys. The stockings were hung by the microphones with care, In hopes that St Miku soon would be there.
The characters were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of vocaloids danced in their heads. And meiko in her ‘kerchief, and Kaito in his cap, Had just settled their brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, The leaders sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window Ichika flew like a flash, Tsukasa tore open the shutters and Kohane threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to Kanades wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sekai, and eight tiny producers.
With a little young driver, so lively and new, Minori knew in a moment it must be St Miku, More rapid than Butterflies her coursers they came, And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now, Circus! now, Cosmo! now, Wowaka and Ryo! On, Giga! On, Mitchie! on, Pinocchio and Deco! To the top of the stage! to the top of the school! To the top of the street! Now dash away all !"
As dry leaves that before the rolling girl roll, When they meet with an obstacle, to patrol the sky they go. So up to the wheel the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of songs, and St Miku too.
And then, in a twinkling, they heard on the ground The singing and music of vocaloids all round. As they drew in their heads, and were turning around, Down the chimney St Miku came with a bound.
She was dressed festively, from her tie to her feet, But she still kept the colours that made her unique. A bundle of gifts she had, like the world was hers And she looked them in the eyes, with nothing but mirth.
Her eyes-how they twinkled! her outfit how merry! Her hair were like ribbons, the colour of blueberry! Her kind little mouth was drawn up like a bow, This was no servant of evil, oh no.
A guitar round her back, and a mic in her hand Flowers, red string, and a flag, like a holiday garland She had a tie that was blue, and a number 01, That was straight on her skin, to show how often she won.
She was soft, kind, and fun, a right jolly old elf, They laughed when the saw her, in spite of themselves! A wink of her eye and a twist of her head, Soon gave the leaders to know they had nothing to dread.
She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work, And filled the stockings with gifts, then turned with a jerk. And laying her finger aside of her nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney she rose!
She sprang to his sleigh, to her team no damnation, And away they all flew like petals of a carnation. But I heard her exclaim, ‘ere she drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

It's been a few days since the "announcement" of the GIGA Pro Gymnastics thing and I'd like to share some research and my lengthy list of questions about this project.
Let's start by saying that there is a document floating around that is marked confidential and proprietary. It's not long, it's an info graphic and appears to be aimed at investors or recruitment. I'm not sharing it. It does inform my questions.
Who Are These People?
First of all: The officers listed are Aimee Boorman as Co-founder and Chief Events Officer. Maura Fox as Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. LaPrise Williams as Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer. This is what I can find based on publicly available information:
The gymnastics community knows who Aimee Boorman is so I'm not going to detail her. She became a FIG Brevet judge in the last two years but is very junior. She's a category 4 judge meaning that except at the smallest FIG meets she is limited to things like being a line judge or a timing judge, this is not a slight. Everyone has to start as a cat 4 but that does mean she doesn't have a lot of experience as a judge.
Maura Fox has a linkedin which informs what I know about her. She was an executive for Time Warner leaving in 2009. Her last job there was as group vice president for consumer devices, cross platform, and strategy. She then ran her own consulting form for 10 years which her linkedin says ended in 2019. She's honestly the person I want to know the most about to take this project seriously or not. She says she's been involved in launching professional circuits in cycling and men's tennis. I'd like to find out what those ventures were to be able to assess the likelihood that this venture will survive. She then worked for some kind of media products group that I can't really get my head around for two years before going to work for GIGA. Her linked in identifies GIGA as having been founded in 2021. So they've had 2 years to build this... which frankly matches with the fact that I had heard about them recruiting potential athletes last year.
LaPrise Williams is a pediatric nurse who was the Baylor Acro and Tumbling coach for from 2011-2014. She later told the press she intended to file a Title IX complaint against the university but I have no idea how that worked out. She opened a gym in St Vincent and the Grenadines which identifies itself as the first gym in the islands. She is the Technical Director for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Gymnastics Association. Here is their facebook page. Now I'm going to put some context on the SVGGA here and I don't want anyone to think I'm disparaging them or her. There are many small federations in the world and this is one of them. It is very clearly a legitimate National Governing Body (NGB). At the moment they have no FIG licensed gymnasts in any discipline and Williams is the only FIG brevet judge from the federation in any discipline--she is a category 4 judge for WAG. The facebook activity for the fed runs:
post on June 4th of 2023 which is a repost from Williams' gym's instagram page.
on September 25, 2022 they changed their profile and header pictures
on January 25, 2020 they posted pictures of a team going to Manhatten Classic.
on June 16, 2019 a repost from an article from the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday about the Caribbean Gymnastics Championships which is very likely not a FIG sanctioned event.
All of this is to say this is a small, relatively inactive federation with limited resources and staff and I'm not entirely sure if much weight should begiven to her involvement in it for this project.
Who are the Sponsors/Who is going to pay the Athletes?
This is upfront going to be a lot of "I have no idea." Their launch material doesn't say. The document I've seen doesn't say and the fact that the thing has supposedly existed for two years without a sponsor lined up to be named at public launch is a little worrying to me.
The document describes a two tiered structure for the athletes with start fees and prize money for all (the initial start fee is $1500 to be paid to all gymnasts with GIGA paying for things like travel, hotel, meals, etc). The prize purse for the first year event is described in the low 6 figure range with mention of an All Around winner. I've seen no mention of teams so it appears to me that they're planning on this being an individual competition circuit (more thoughts on that later). I have seen no reference to insurance of any sort and the only medical related thing in the document is onsite massage, PT, and recovery aids. My major concern continues to be that these people are recruiting adult aged post-college athletes and all I can think is there will be many knees destroyed. And this is the United States... so look forward to some Go Fund Me for medical treatment in the future... It's notable that the European club leagues are all in countries with nationalized health care. Their document talks about career longevity for gymnasts but I'm not at all convinced they're promising an infrastructure for that.
There is a second section of this document that talks about headliners and the things they can negotiated for as individuals. So some gymnasts will be paid appearance fees--which I should stress I think is perfectly normal.
Why is it hard to figure out if these people want to be a professional league or a media platform?
Because they want to be both. They want hold to meets and stream content to fans as well as sell access to the athletes for fans experiences. It looks like kind of standard VIP meet and greet kind of things from what little detail I've seen... you pay money to meet the athlete for say 30 minutes with a group of other fans. I've done this kind of thing for television actors. It's fun. But it's also by it's nature not something a lot of fans can afford.
They also want to build a library of content that is essentially athlete interviews presumably the access of which they can sell in whatever the subscription package of their multimedia platform is. It's all pretty vague so we'll have to figure out what it means when their products actually launch.
For now my main concern is why did they announce this in June without a date or location or a format for their first competition?
Lingering Questions...
I have so many... aside from the ones I've touched on above. They talk about how this hasn't been done before. It has. The most successful attempt at launching a pro-gymnastics competition circuit was in 1997-98 in the post Atlanta Olympics hype. They used a modified NCAA code and the meets were aired on CBS. I don't need them to talk about the previous two attempts (except maybe don't claim to be the first) but I really hope they are aware of them at the very least to find out why they didn't last. I fear that they either didn't do that research or they assume because it was 20+ years ago that their multimedia platform makes them so different that it doesn't apply.
What the heck is the meet structure here? They talk a LOT about the successes of NCAA gymnastics but at least the materials I've seen seem to suggest that they don't plan on having teams. Teams are a key part of building fan support in both NCAA and the European club leagues. I still don't think you can model a US league based on those European leagues mostly because they are build on a lot of routines from junior gymnasts and this project seems to be entirely about post-NCAA age careers. That's in addition to my medical insurance and liability insurance questions.
What is USAG's involvement in this? My fear is "they don't want USAG's involvement". See the launching of new professional sports leagues in a country often depend on how much support and buy-in they have from the NGB. One of the major differences between the currently running National Women's Soccer League and earlier defunct attempts is buy-in from USA Soccer. And I promise you that US Soccer is no more popular then USAG. I'm also informed by the fact that playing conditions for a lot of NWSL teams have been pretty bad (let's not touch the sexual harassment issues within teams). One team was playing on a home field that had holes in it and couldn't afford to pay for their players shoes. Gymnastics equipment is extremely expensive. Millions of dollars just for the competition apparatus. Are these people buying it? From who? Are they going to transport it around the country? Are they going to host it in a central location so they can store the equipment locally or rent it from a specific source? So many questions.
What code of points are they using? US developmental program--you know the one whose code of points you have to buy and isn't publicly accessible without paying for it? Some modified version of the above (like NCAA)? If they're riding the coat tales of NCAA I somehow doubt they're using the FIG code which will make it somewhat harder for non-US/Canadian athletes to be involved. What difficulty expectations will there be? How are they going to handle judges? How are they going to assure fans and athletes that judging will be fair given how much money they are saying is in the prize purses and that they're setting up a two tiered "everyone" and "headliners" compensation structure?
Conclusions:
I'm highly skeptical of all of this. I'm worried about what seems to have been a premature information free public launch. Their website and materials seem amateurish to me and I just can't get my head around the idea that they launch this publicly with no sponsors named.
I'm not at all convinced that these people know how or why European club leagues work, why previous attempts at this in the US have failed, what a lot of the appeal of NCAA gymnastics is, or that they have the experience necessary to do any of this.

BADNEWS & MURDOCH seemingly a nod to Bad News Brown/Bad News Allen who was active as a prowrestler in Japan during the 70s-80s. He was a friend and trainee of Japanese prowrestling legend, Antonio Inoki. The brief appearance in WA2 of a wrestling partner MURDOCH was probably a reference to Dick Murdoch, who was active in Japanese pro wrestling in the 80s.
GIGAFLAME later renamed FLAME GIANT were originally recolors of BAD NEWS, or maybe vice versa. It got its own model shared between 4 elemental GIGAs in WA2, but then got another reinvention .
GIGAFROST aka FROST GIANT has basically the same story as GIGAFLAME.
GIGA POISON appeared first as part of the elemental GIGAs but briefly reappeared as POISON GIANT in Code F, but got localized as GIGA TOXIN.
GIGA CLOUD was the last of the elemental GIGAs in WA2 and the only one not to make a comeback.
AURVANDILL is a relatively obscure figure of Norse/Germanic myth. Due to linguistic shenanigans and the general problems with salvaging true Nordic lore, a lot of myths tied to the name are pretty heavily scrutinized by comparative mythologists. He was some kind of a mythic warrior but that's sort of as far as it can really be nailed down.
HRIMTHURS are the frost giants of Nordic lore, a subdivision of the primordial Jotunn race that oppose the gods of Asgard. I'd be tempted to categorize this as an offshoot of the GIGAFROST by way of FROST GIANT, filling the absence of a GIGA FROST in WA4 and 5, but it technically appeared first in WA2 as a totally unrelated giant head... a model it shared with,
MUSPEL, taken from MUSPELHEIM, the firy realm of the flame giants of Norse lore. Sort of like the HRIMTHURS it's oddly close to the FLAME GIANT enemy, yet doesn't quite fall in line.
NIFLHEIM, like MUSPEL, referring to a realm in Norse cosmology. This time the realm of ice, home of the aforementioned Hrimthurs. Between MUSPELHEIM and NIFLHEIM as opposed realms of the primordial elements, the gap between them gives rise to the rest of creation.
and then out of absolutely nowhere... GRAHAM YOUNG is the St. Albans "Teacup Poisoner" of the 1960s-70s??? What an absolutely bizarre pull on behalf of the WA staff... Young was a convicted serial poisoner who was responsible for a whole slew of legal and social reform efforts in the wake of his trial. (Its way less obvious than some of the other links in this tree, but maybe a continuation of the GIGA POISON line???)

In 1990, the Japanese satellite television company WOWOW decided to expand their services into the field of satellite radio.[3] The core management team made the executive decision to create a subsidiary named St.GIGA. The name was selected by a popular poll of "persons on the streets" because the executives agreed that they knew nothing about music. In deciding whom to hire as director for the subsidiary, Hiroshi Yokoi (横井宏) (who had recently designed the successful J-Wave FM) was selected as an innovator in the field. Soon after accepting the position, Yokoi crafted a radical proposal for the station concept. The initial reaction at WOWOW was skeptical; however within a few months of traditional satellite radio broadcasts, Yokoi's concept was given probationary adoption, and Yokoi was subsequently given full discretion to shape the company's future.
In accordance with Yokoi's conception, St.GIGA's broadcasts initially followed no externally fixed (or artificial) timetable. Rather they were based upon the cyclical motif of a 24-hour "tide table"[4] where broadcast themes were approximately matched to the current tidal cycle according to the rule of twelfths throughout the 24-hour broadcasting period. Under this innovative schedule, the station broadcast a variety of primarily ambient music programs including Music Tide (音楽潮流, Ongaku Chōryū), various jazz programs, and Tide Table (タイド・テーブル, Taido . Teburu) (featuring live sound-broadcasts of the ocean shore). The beginnings and ends of programs were not clearly demarcated and instead utilized the unprecedented "Tide of Sound" (音の潮流, Oto no Chōryū) method where songs of one genre would gradually flow into and intersperse with the songs from the prior genre until the new genre became predominant. The intent, according to Yokoi was to allow the listener to relax in a wave of sound "like a baby sleeps in the womb."[4] "Tide of Sounds" broadcasts operated under a principle of "No Commercials, No DJs, No News Broadcasts, No Talk."

ADBK: Machine King
Epithet: The Next In Assembly Line
Voice Actor: John St. John
Tribe: The Machinations
Biography: Although not the most originally named of individuals, Machine King is a lot stronger than he seems. For one, he has a hidden power that allows him to increase his attack power equal to his army in battle. That, and he has the power to increase the attack of other Machines as well, making him a powerful force for PMK's plans.
He was designed to be the successor to Perfect Machine King should he ever be destroyed for good, built shortly after a devastating defeat at the hands of Luminous Soldier at the Battle of Dust Bowl Gulch. Regarding Machine King's own thoughts, he feels highly pressured to do as his 'father' commands, and often comforts himself by playing with his pet Giga Tech Wolf.
