The Woods of Indiana ficlet
Tumblr media
I love to think about the “outsider perspective” of what happened in Hawkins. This sort of covers the first 2 Seasons.
It’s very general and I added a headcanon of a hunter who got attacked by a demodog in Season 2. I love how eery the whole thing must be from the outside. 800 words. xo
The woods of Indiana were vast. Old trees on old hills, rivers parting them. Lakes embedded, like scattered silver pearls. The wind brushing through the tree lines felt like the forest was breathing. Sometimes it whispered, sometimes it's breath rattled, like the last breaths of a dying deer. One could only wonder, what the trees witnessed over the years. They’re standing tall and dark. During storms the forest seemed to shout, the rain coming down on it soft but relentless, as if to appease the anger it displayed. During the day, especially in the spring months, the forests were a popular spot to hike and enjoy the bird songs and the reverent elegance of the forest.
But at one point other, strange noises filled  the woods during the nights. Screams echoing. And sounds that didn't quite seem human. There was barking, snarling, screeching. Low rumbles. They sounded like a big predator. But not quite animal either. It sounded like things hunting and things dying.
At some points, the birds would just stop singing, residents of the trailer park noticed. It became silent. Eerily so. Like the calm before a storm, but there was no storm.
Some residents of Hawkins had an uneasy feeling about the woods. It wasn't strictly because of that young girl who vanished. It also wasn't the kid who died and came back. It was more like some sort of raw instinct, that clawed its way into their bellies and left shivers on their spine.  A feeling, like something wasn’t quite right.
They had a funeral for the boy who vanished, back then in autumn. His body was found in the quarry one night in 83′. Yet, the boy somehow returned to the living, after people cried at his grave. He was pale and disturbed and just...different. “Mistakes like this can happen.”, said a police statement.
It was another kid's body they found in the quarry, or so they say. Another kid, dead. Nobody ever found out who the other dead kid was. The Byer's kid got lost in the woods and found his way home, all by himself, they said. The kids a queer, they also said. And afterwards he became more weird. His mother and brother always on the edge. Father a deadbeat.
Some people joked, that he really looks like he came back from the dead. The jokes were usually followed by uncomfortable silence. The mother lost her marbles somewhere in the process of grieving and regaining her youngest. But some say, she never was quite alright anyway. The good people of Hawkins followed that statement with “but who am I to judge.”
The way the news reported, made sense, at first. Everyone likes to learn about a tragedy but then go back to their own uneventful lives. Poor Holland's. Poor Byer's kid, all pale. A tragedy.
Apparently Macy Anderson's husband, who was a dedicated hunter, came back from the woods one night, trembling and stuttering. He had a peculiar bite wound on his right foot. Whatever he was hunting, hunted him right back. And he also knew, it wasn't an animal. He'd recognize any bitemark. When someone asked him about it, he'd shake his head, his voice was trembling. “Nah, that's aint no mountain lion bite or nothing...it was different. And I’ve been in these woods all my life.” He'd stare into the middle distance while talking.
In the beginning Mr.Anderson said, demon dogs ascended from hell, came home to haunt him, for what he did in the war. But he changed that answer, after people started laughing at him. He started staring into the middle distance more often. Haunted. Eyes empty.
“I’ve seen awful things. Terrible things, in the war. But this is something else.”, he’d say.
His wife said, something changed about her loving husband. He had this incredible fear, every noise made him twitch. His eyes looked like he was a deer in the headlights, about to get hit.  When his wife tried to talk to him nothing made sense. Dogs from hell. In the end he was obsessed with the thought, that the hell hounds were the cause of all the pumpkins rotting, drawing in thousands of flies. Healthy, living trees decaying out of nowhere. The stench filled the air. He was hell bent on it.
“That wasn’t Eugene poisoning Merrill’s farm. No human could do something so sinister.”, he’d tell everyone who would listen. People laughed.
In the end Mr. Anderson took his own life, with his rifle. That was a tragedy too.
Soon after, a story broke the news. There was a chemical spill from Hawkin's lab. It killed the Holland's daughter. Apparently they tried to cover it up. That also explained the change in the environment. The news made sense. The police statements made sense. Maybe Mr.Anderson, had a dose of that aswell. It was no consolation to the widow.  The Holland’s were crushed. The cold certainty of death drowned every bit of hope they worked so hard to keep up during the last months, looking for their daughter. In the end they even fell for a Quack called Baumann, who pulled money out of their pockets, promising to find Barbara.
Most residents were shocked, but somehow relieved about the news of the chemical leak. It was something easy to understand.  But the eery feeling about the wood stayed.
After all of that, an urban myth started to make the rounds through young people. About tunnels under Hawkins, that were a direct gateway to hell. Mr.Anderson didn’t kill himself. One of the hellhounds came back and ate him alive.
Later, people wouldn't laugh about it anymore. Something was happening in that town. In 85′ the stench of death filled out the town once again. This time around it was harder to ignore. And it became harder to ignore after that.

Best Underrated Scene: Gilmore Girls - 1x04 The Deer Hunters
Boy, oh boy, this episode gives me ANXIETY. I get anxious just knowing what’s coming. Even my first time watching it, the build up to how what a deal the test was and how long they were studying I KNEW it was coming. I hate tv episodes that have people sleep through/miss tests. I can’t handle it. All that being said, this episode is mostly fine without much standing out besides Lorelai’s smack-down of Headmaster Charleston at the end, but I would categorize that as “appreciated enough.” It is punchy and she delivers it well, but beyond that not much to analyze or say. I also like the study session, but meh. It ended up being a toss up between Lorelai and Max’s first meeting and the scene I ultimately chose. A brief note on Lorelai and Max’s first meeting - I think it’s well-executed and sweet. They obviously show the attraction between the two (I personally think Lauren Graham can create heat and chemistry with a brick wall so no surprise there) and we get Lorelai’s awkwardness when put in the company of rich people versus her ease at talking with (and flirting with) men, which is an interesting character trait to see so close together. HOWEVER, I decided to ultimately go with a very small scene:
Sookie Discovers Why the Reviewer Didn’t Like Her Risotto
I remember when I first watched Gilmore Girls. It was after the series had ended but before Melissa McCarthy was a household name. She might have been on Mike & Molly by this time, but it was at least a couple years before Bridesmaids, SNL, and her rise to super stardom. I remember even from the pilot being enthralled by how damn funny this lady was. Gilmore Girls is funny, but there are a lot of duds in the jokes. Amy Sherman Palladino and her crew seem to be able to land maybe 70% or the jokes on this show (ASP is a VERY good writer and I think a lot of her stuff is very funny, but I actually like a lot of the more nuanced and emotional beats of the show), but Melissa McCarthy finds ways to turn things that are only slightly funny into very funny and very funny things into damn HILARIOUS.
Case in point, this whole story line for Sookie is rather silly and not altogether that great, but as an early series arc for a secondary (and, at times tertiary) character it does do a bit to flesh out her character a bit. Sookie gets a mostly steller review for the restaurant at the beginning of the episode, save for the fact that the reviewer found the risotto to be “mostly fine.” We find out that there’s a whole back story to the risotto (henceforward known as the “magic risotto” since it prolonged Sookie’s mother’s life) that makes this seemingly innocuous comment sting to a degree that causes Sookie to go through extreme lengths to find out what might have caused the reviewer to have this reaction and to prove him wrong. Going forward from this story line, we know that Sookie has immense pride in her work and has a pretty big ego regarding it (I think we can rightfully assume that she would have had the same reaction to any of her dishes being called out as “mostly fine” regardless of their backstories). She is also highly sensitive, tenacious, and willing to cross boundaries to prove her point.
The scene in question starts when Sookie’s squeal of joy lures Lorelai into the dining room. “I found it!” she proclaims to Lorelai, “I found his bill!”
“It wasn’t the risotto, it was the wine. He ordered the wrong wine.”
“Well, great,” Lorelai says. Lauren Graham gives her reactions the perfect amount of delighted exhaustion to have this journey regarding the risotto be over, happiness for her friend, and a hint of “damn, I don’t care about this at all, but if she does then I guess I will a bit” (something I think we have all experienced with our friends).
Sookie precedes to explain how she used her detective skills to find the right bill, going off on two delightful tangents in the process--one about Jackson getting in a fist fight with his tomato grower (which Lorelai says to “save for Christmas time”) and one about the waiter breaking up with his girlfriend. The two delve into this second tangent a bit together, as two friends would:
L: “Cecilia kicked him out?”
S: “Well he didn’t want kids.”
L: “Well she knew that when they moved in.”
S: “Women always think they can change men.”
Sookie cuts off this gossip as she continues on her detective streak to the bill which reveals that the reviewer ordered a Riesling! “Why not just drink battery acid,” Lorelai says, emphasizing each word just enough so that we know she doesn’t know the difference, but she is reading the situation and intuiting what to say from Sookie’s reactions. The mystery is solved, the girls hug and the scene is capped with Sookie sending Jackson on his way with his too-small zucchini.
There is nothing earth-shattering or monumental in this scene, but I think it is a small hint at what Melissa McCarthy can do comedically. Seeing the dialogue, it’s not that hilarious, but I chuckle almost every time I watch it. Her pureness, joy, and energy that she brings to every scene is truly a force and luckily I think Lauren Graham always does a great job in matching it. Both of these ladies are complete experts in their crafts and only four episodes in to the show they are completely melded to their characters. I also enjoy how lived-in and real their friendship feels. Lorelai usually demands more attention, but we all have friendships that are like that at times. But the two do care for each other and Lorelai does step aside when necessary and she always supports Sookie, even when Sookie is being Too Much.

Thoughts on season 2 of The Order, BIG SPOILER WARNINGS FOR SEASON 2. Also this is kinda rambly and unedited I apologize in advance
Okay, to start overall I did enjoy this season a lot, possibly more than the first season. I want to start with discussing the plotline. I read this in another review (by @georgesezra ) that the 2 episode formula works very well and I highly agree with that. I think overall, in the beginning the pacing went well for the mini-plots that the show is going for. The way the plot is built up, with distractor antagonists/ not the top antagonist ( Salvador ) is very reminiscent to me of early seasons of Teen Wolf ( especially season 2 with the Kanima storyline but this is not a Teen Wolf Review. )
The Early episodes were the best episodes, in my opinion, the amnesia plotline was resolved relatively quickly, but there still was some fun with it, especially with seeing Jack as a cheerleader. Also Blonde Jack, definitely the best move and I really missed the blonde in later episodes. The first half of the season the Knights Dynamic felt like it was there and real. They want to Be the Knights of St. Christopher and outside of the Order, not the Order’s pets whenever they need werewolf strength.
However, things to me go to shit when Lilith goes to the demon realm. All of a sudden many characters seem to go slightly ooc without the proper character development shown in the show. I’ll discuss this more when I touch on certain characters, but Hamish especially seemed to take a complete 180 this season, but didn’t show on the screen how we eventually lead up to that point.
Going back to the main plot, I really enjoyed the concept of Praxis, Salvador and liberating magic. The dilemma of keeping magic only to those deemed worthy by a secret organization most people are unaware of, with their own set of strict rules where people are expected to not question the authority of the grand magus. Battled with the complete choice of free will and that everyone should be able to wield magic. Those two ideas battling is a very good concept and I wish it could’ve been used a little more or introduced earlier into the season. I think the first place we see this idea is with Rogwan. The demon that takes fear away from oneself. So, people are going completely based on their first instinct without the fear of death. This, in my opinion, is foreshadowing to what could happen if everyone could use magic. That it sounds good in concept, a life without fear sounds good, but quickly can turn disastrous and cause ( in this case ) the Apocalypse.
Parallels and callbacks are very well done this season and I loved them. With the repeated Jokes of Randall calling Hamish different nicknames, the repeated discussion of Hell versus Demon Realm with the Knights. Callbacks to events that happened in the first season. Bringing back Kyle and Professor Clarke. Showing the difference between having Midnights hide on Jack versus Silverback. Also, still showing that they are college students who are trying to just go through college, especially with Jack saying how he needs to pass his exam to keep his scholarship etc. These are things that the show does very well
Moving onto my thoughts of characters
Starting with Nicole, she was only a side character but I really enjoyed her when she was on the screen. She had a lot of conflicting morals with helping the order versus her affection for Lilith. When Lilith leaves her only concern is getting her back, seemingly more than the knights which I’ll touch on later. She spends seemingly all of her time after that trying to save Lilith and it is very apparent she just wants to use magic for the good of others, but the limitations of the order does not allow her to do so - “ the only altruistic thing i have done so far is fix someone’s car”  I hope we get to see more of her in a season 3 and see her develop more
The Sons of Enoch and Orbin. I’m going to be honest I didn’t necessarily care that much for this plotline. The thought of a hive mind is a very interesting concept and I did enjoy how they show’d to explore this concept. However, it seems like The Order makes this alliance with them and then it’s never used?? Also Alyssa joining this collective so soon ( ik she was on the juice but still ) it seems that Alyssa easily pledges loyalty to groups without getting the full story, I’ll touch on that later, but it was a frustrating to watch with her so easily trusting them despite Jack’s protests and the original reason they were there. However, the makeup and set design for Tree Jack was wonderfully done, all of the Sfx makeup is done super well
Gabrielle turned into one of my favorite characters this season. I hated her character last season, with the whole being a complete bitch and unnecessarily cruel ( the truth glove. ) However, we get to see her have a lot of growth this season. Showing that she wants to be part of a group and have friends, she just uses her bitchness as a deflect ( smartly pointed out by Randall, I’ll touch on the relationship later. ) Her early season with her treating Jack as her pet was annoying, but at least entertaining, like I said I was a big fan of blond Jack. Seeing her being willing to help the Knights on their various quests to help save Lilith or help Jack is nice, sure I’d rather have Lilith, but at least Gabrielle is given time to have character growth. Having Midnight choose her as a champion was a good plot choice in my opinion. I’m not sure in the long run if it was, but for what it was in season 2 I liked it. She wanted to find a group that she could fight for and would fight for her, and the Knights seemed to be more than The Order. However, seeing her try to fight Midnight off, fight Kyle off and seeing her completely vulnerable is a nice change and I’m hoping is a season 3 we get to see more of the other sides of Gabrielle. However, her character seemed to be one of the most consistent while being able to have growth
Getting to the Knights
Starting off with Randall. I loved him this season a lot. His struggle with just wanting to be a knight and sticking to what he knows to be the Knights of St. Christopher is refreshing to see throughout the season. Especially in the fear chamber when his biggest fear was having to join the Order. Also is this our fears or a sight of the future was very spot on. I’m glad that the Lilith/Randall plotline was thrown out bc it was an out of nowhere part of season 1. Being not only comic relief but being able to show more strength and fight for what he believes in, which in this case is just saving Lilith, is nice to see. However, with Hamish being out of commission in my opinion it seemed like a lot of Randall’s options were limited. I highly enjoyed him killing Kepler but keeping it from Nicole in the finale. It finally seemed like something the Knights would do and how they would do anything to save a fellow knight
Lilith, we sadly did not get to see her much this season. I’m not sure if this was a prewritten plotpoint of Devery Jacobs had other projects she had to film outside The Order. However, looking at it from a storyline point it is a very poor choice in my opinion. Lilith is a fighter and she is not scared to stand up to authority. She would have put Hamish in his place for fulling committing to the Order and many things would have gone different this season, besides her being thrown to the side as a “we have to save Lilith” storyline that continuously gets put on hold. It is interesting to see what will come out of demon/werewolf Lilith in a season 3
Okay, let’s get to Hamish. Now listen I love Hamish especially in season1 and early season 2. However, the whole Vera/Hamish plotline that mostly takes place offscreen totally changes his character. Now, self-growth is important, but this seemed to be a 180 that came out of nowhere. From season 1 to killing Jack for being in the Order to not saving Lilith due to having to help the order just seems so ooc to me. Also, turning completely sober, like I said personal growth is good if we see it on camera, not when we are just told it is happening behind the scenes. However, I did really enjoy him in the early Praxis scene where he pretended it was a very good magic show, and I still love seeing his character on screen, it just was very frustrating to have this flip where it kinda came out of nowhere.
Jack Morton. I really liked Jack this season a lot. The beginning of the season I was a huge fan of vengeful Jack. With just wanting to get revenge on The Order and kill them all. Honestly was a big fan of that Jack and how his feelings were amplified by having Midnight. Then, the internal struggle of having both hides and the discussion in the collective unconscious of how it is a choice of what kind of person he wants to be and there are no wrong choices.  He had a lot of character growth this season as well. Still the non-rule follower, but this time around it is complete revenge on one character like with coventry. He truly seems to want to do the right thing for the people around him. Taking many sacrifices this season - fear chamber, confessing to the murder, multiple times facing Praxis!Alyssa. He is willing to do what it takes to make things right. Again, a complaint I had about Hamish is putting Lilith on the backburner, especially when Jack was there when it happened. However, Jack did have previous loyalty to the Order and he is shown being a person who struggles to stay on one path ( what is my actually major? ) Jack still makes a very good lead for the show and I am excited to see what the future holds for him in later seasons
This is going to be a controversial opinion, but I do not like Alyssa Drake. This does not go to say I don’t understand where her character’s motives come from, because I do. I also think it is very interesting to make her the final villain in the show. She wants to feel like she has control over her life and magic gave her that. She has said multiple times that magic is her life. So, finding out that Vera betrayed her by not destroying the Vade Mecum that blocks her magic would definitely be a good cause for her to not trust the order. To finally see Jack and fellow knights season 1 opinions. That everyone in the order is inherently selfish. And it is hard to dismiss that. Higher ups, especially the nogstic council ( that definitely is spelled wrong sorry ) are shown that they will do anything out of their own selfish needs. Saying all this and understanding Alyssa’s motives still doesn’t make me like her. She is easily manipulated by people - Coventry, the sons of Enoch, and now praxis. With this desire to be her own person completely, she loses sight of who she is. Alyssa tends to dedicate herself to one idea and sticks to that without listening to the insight of others. Season 1 with not initially believing Jack about Coventry, not listening to him about the sons on enoch. It all came to a head with Praxis. Now, I don’t believe some white boy needs to save her. I think Alyssa just needs time to figure out - who she wants to be, where her moral standings are, etc. Her delve into completely taking away Vera’s power and doing anything to get the incantation can either be seen by her being influenced by - Salvador, the Vade Mecum, or she has lost herself again. This is very reminist of me to the character or Alice from The Magicians ( whom I also am not the biggest fan of, but that is due to poor writing choices etc. not a Magicians review ) I hope in season 3 and beyond Alyssa can figure out what person she wants to be and find some sort of closure, but as it is now she is dead, so there may be a collective unconscious storyline there. It would be interesting to see her maybe talk to Ellie in there?? Idk just some ideas
Vera Stone. She stole the show. I loved Vera a lot this season. Seeing her still be a baddass and command a room is nice. It is nice to see a powerful woman in charge of an organization and not just seen as a mean bitch or completely characterized that way. Of course there is the whole side plot of  Kepler undermining her and trying to get her replaced which is frustrating. Especially from the perspective of seeing it as another woman trying to take down a woman in power. However, seeing that Vera is trying to do the right thing and is able to make the tough choices is pleasant to see. She understands that her ideas are not always ideal, but there isn’t very many options to run off of. Especially when most of our main cast doesn’t necessarily listen to what she has to say. I hope we get more of a backstory to Vera after seeing what she did under the hive mind of the sons of enoch and having her and Jack being able to bond more after that is nice. The dynamic between Jack and Vera is very well written and I like how it is explored. Although Vera is strict she still understands that these are young adults, who question authority, make mistakes, and believe that they have the right vision about the world. I am a huge Vera Stone fan and this season did her well. Her losing her magic and paralleling that to Alyssa is important to show. Both of them are more similar than they believe and both of them felt completely lost without their magic. In Vera’s case she wished she was dead instead of lost without her magic. However, how they deal with it is different, despite losing her magic, losing who she is, she still does everything she can in her limited power to save the world and try to save Alyssa along with it. I am excited to see what her storyline delves into for a season 3.
Now onto relationships
As said by @madroxed the Order cannot write a good relationship and I agree wholeheartedly. They probably put what I am going to say in words better, but I have a very similar viewpoint if you want to read their review.
Starting off with Randall and Gabrielle. It isn’t horrible, I think, like most relationships on this show, came out of nowhere. All of a sudden they are in this on and off relationship this is mostly shown offscreen, giving us little leadway what happens behind scenes. I think a frenemies to friends to then maybe in a season 3 to lovers trope would work better. Or just sticking as friends. Randall is the first one to truly call Gabrielle on her facades and I hope that with her becoming Midnight and killing Alyssa there friendship dynamic can be shown more. Not the worst, just started to quickly
Nicole and Lilith. I love more WLW representation especially seeing it come from POC women. I think this relationship has a lot of potential and is good character growth for both of them. Yes, there will be trust issues between the both of them lying to e/o about facets of their lives ( memory wiping, the robbery ), but perhaps this could make a good subplot for season 3. Also I am happy the Randall/Lilith plotline was thrown out because they also just work better as friends
Hamish and Vera. Now this was hinted a little in season 1, and it could be well. If it was written on screen or shown on screen honestly at all. It was just mentioned by Randall “someone is hot for teacher” they both have strong  leadership abilities and understand what it is like making tough choices. However, all this relationship did was make Hamish completely complacent to the Order and he not doing whatever it takes to get Lilith back, whom he has known as a part of his family, brotherhood for a lot longer than Vera.
Jack and Alyssa. I love seeing their complicated relationship on screen. Long are the days of the season 1 instalove trope, that I am not a big fan of. Having them acknowledge that their relationship is toxic to both of them at times, but still establish that they both deeply care for eachother is important. They both are constantly on other sides of whatever situation they are on, but still are willing to risk themselves for the other. I am not sure where I stand on liking or disliking the relationship, but throughout this season I think that the discussions that were started with how they view their relationship is important.
The ending of Season 2. I’m not sure how I feel. As I have seen many other people say it was rushed ( which I agree with ) and ending on a reel of powerful women being hurt in the arms of men is kinda disheartening to see. It feels like a man! Savior trope. I want to believe it wasn’t written this way on purpose, but seeing it does leave a bad taste in my mouth. That is not to say I didn’t like how the storylines ended, but how they showed the end and having all of the bad happen to women as men watch is,,, not the best.
Overall, these were the goods and bads of the second season of The Order. I still love this show a lot and it’s nice to see the fandom grow bigger. If you read through this whole rambely, unedited mess thank you. Feel free to send an Ask or Message me with your thoughts!

1 Ok, now that it's ending, I want to share sth. I never liked D, not even in season1, when she was innocent and was discovering the world. Whatever she did even then was for me morally ambiguous, even managing to turn the abusive relationship with Drogo into a loving one and use it to her own interest. I know she is applauded by many abt this, but to me it feels like closing the eyes to the violence and the questionable mores of the Dothraki that turns against innocent people. And it continued
2 with Drogo’s pyre and the hatching of the dragons which included a human sacrifice. After that she did many questionable things, but what really made me sick was the crucifixion of the masters. Crucifixion is by far the worst way to die; people were hanging on the cross for days while flies covered their wounds and birds preyed on them, starting from the eyes. It is not by chance that Martin chose this way of dying to show to what extremes D could reach when applying her own sense of
3 “justice”. If I were living in this fantasy world Martin has created, I’d probably be with the opposition in Meereen, or I’d burn with the Lannister soldiers in BoF2. And, honestly, regulating even the modes of execution is one of the things the modern world has offered, I don’t think many people realize this. Show-wise, Ds dilemma in ADOD is portrayed only with Olenna’s advice “be a dragon”, and thereafter D needs to be restrained from unleashing hell upon her own country. It is only through
4 interaction with other characters the audience loves, e.g. Jon or Jamie that people have started noticing that sth’s wrong here. And yet it is even now rare, and most people don’t get D’s double standards and her intoxication with violence. It’s disturbing and alarming. If, for being a “hero”, one has to step on corpses, and violate one’s own principles, if any, then is it worth it? D’s called to answer this question and the audience is called to evaluate the answer she’ll give.
Dear nonny,
I disliked Dany since book two, when I first read it, about 20 years ago. I felt uncomfortable with her in book 1, when the Dothraki pillaged and burned the Lhazareen people, but I was duped into thinking her a heroine, when the dragons were born.
So, when I read the second book and thought deeper about her, I decided not to like her, although I could never exactly say why, until I had reached ADWD. To me the torture of the wineseller’s daughters was the final straw. And I was so confused about it, because I thought she was set up as one of the heroes to save the world. I came to the conclusion that she would save the world with Jon, but that their love would be doomed because of accidental incest and incompatibility, and that this would set up Jon being in the exact suicidal mood to defeat the Others in an act of self-sacrifice..... And then the end of book 5 happened and Jon was murdered and I honestly had no clue what would happen now (apart from the fact that I was sure, that Jon would return). It was the show that made me rethink.... Anyway Jonerys was my NOTP since book 2. I thought GRRM would go that way, but I disliked it immensely.
I must admit that I do not understand that even people who regularly post in the Anti Dany tag say something like “she has a good heart” or “she has good intentions.” I have no doubt that people genuinely believe that, but I do not. She is an interesting and well-written character, but she has neither a good heart nor good intentions. And her hypocrisy gets on my nerves..... From the time she gains agency in the first book, it is all about her interests and herself. Her throne, her dragons, her army, which she needs. All the acts that have people love her as one of the heroes are accidental. She is an accidental saviour.
As a historian I know that this is even a realistic scenario. Sometimes people will do something for their own gain and yet it will have positive results. Sometimes people will do bad things and in the long run the results are still positive. Sometimes people have the best intentions but blunder anyway.
This is why I think intentions are important and if we try to form our opinion on Dany we should take her intentions into account. In Mereen she has the intention to keep peace (and she sort of grew on me again in that book, at least a little) but this hard work has her bored and she is visibly frustrated by this and at the end of ADWD she chose the seemingly easy path of ‘fire and blood’, a path that will lead to quick change (even if not for the better). I get the impulse: If you really want to change something, you tend to become impatient. It is frustrating when things only change step by step.
Dany’s arc also plays into our expectations: We know that sometimes things can only be changed by a revolution, so we are prepared to accept violence for a good cause. And if Dany really had made a campaign to abolish slavery I would still not be o.k. with all the violence, but I might concede that a bit of violence probably cannot be avoided.
But Dany does nothing to tone down the violence. She orders (!)  the freed slaves to kill teenage boys in a tokhar. She crucifies, she tortures etc. But how can you be better, if you do the same things the slavers do? She has no sense of proportions. So, even if it were her intention to abolish slavery, her violence is unrestricted. And nobody, nobody, nobody deserves to be crucified or burned alive.... Even if there were masters who gave the order for the crucification of the children amongst the ones she ordered executed, Dany should know better that to do the same. I might have this opinion because I am anti death penalty, but even if you think that people deserve death you should be quick about it.
Fighting the monster, she became the monster. This would happen in any case but the more so, because she doesn’t have good intentions. There is just no check on her impulses, none at all.
I do blame her upbringing. She had it tough there, and it is no wonder that she became narcistic. But this is an explanation. It is not an excuse nor is it a  justification.
If anybody who was abused in his childhood would deserve an Iron Throne we would have even more problems in the world than we currently have.
Dany deserves our pity for her childhood, she deserves our respect that she managed to survive, she deserves finding love. She does not deserve worship, a throne, a whole nation to serve her whims. Honestly, Dany stans going on about how she fought so much and suffered so much, that she deserves the throne really annoys me. Sorry, this is not Dany applying for a job and getting rejected because she is a woman. This is Dany conquering and imposing her will.
And I say it again: SHE DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD HEART.
Thanks for the ask!

personally obsessed with the fact that flora never cuts her hair in like the four-year span of st, it just gets longer and longer.
season1 flora changing between a low ponytail and a braid over the season while looking for will, trying to look neat and put together but her hair becoming more and more unraveled with everything that happens.
flora in her season2 low pigtails; having her ‘michael-in-the-bathroom’ moment at tina’s party, grabbing at the fuzzy/ribbon/scrunchie hairbands during her numerous s2 panic attacks, tightening them as she heads up to the junkyard bus’ roof to shoot arrows at demodogs.
season3 flora with her hair just clipped back over the ears. her first scene of s3 is her having to push her hair back while she’s deep in an arcade game and then in a later scene she’s just clipped her hair back to keep it out of her face. she keeps losing her bobbypins and little clips all over the mall. just the image of a sparkly little hairclip™ on the ground of the russian hq while she’s hiding.
she had multiple chances to tie her hair up in season4 but instead she decided ‘whelp im gonna go fight bats in hell with my curls OUT’. curls wet and stringy after diving through the water gate; in the background of one scene she gets her fingers tangled in it while trying to push it back; eddie carefully brushing her curls out of her face after she gets hit in it by a demobat. her hair’s almost down to her waist, she’s posed up in the upside-down with her bow, shooting at the demobat swarm. sobbing over eddie’s body with her hair a mess, wavy curls falling everywhere. blood in her hair as she and dustin hobble out, having to leave eddie behind.

it’s complicated but she’s old money high society and debuted at a True Detective season1 style masonic-like ball that was whites only til the 1980s and still only accepts very rich people. https://jezebel.com/what-the-hell-is-this-racist-debutante-parade-in-st-lo-1844235291 long version https://commonreader.wustl.edu/c/uneasy-past-veiled-prophet-organization/
https://commonreader.wustl.edu/c/uneasy-past-veiled-prophet-organization-part-ii/
so not explicitly racist, not open to any class of whites, but subtly racist in it’s actions and exclusivity.
From Twitter I just found out the Ellie Kemper (aka Kimmy Schmidt) was a KKayK Princess and honestly wtf

Hello :) i just finished ST 2 and asa season1 joncy fan I needed to find stancy fans cause honestly I was so shock how badly joncy fit together what happened here?! I feel as is Joncy was the planned romance but characters happened orginally and now Steve is the better option and fits into the core of the show. Also how cringe was that "we like steve but we dont love steve" and joncy sharing trauma (becausd steve doesnt?!) Tht whole rando talk fits bob/jocye/hopper better if anyone at all
yeah episode 6 jancy was like major cringe...... the kiss scene would have worked if not for the context it was in.  stancy fans out here trying their best lmao except now we’re all pissed off at one half of our ship.  honestly, im just tired of nancy being led through her emotions by men who don’t know what they’re talking about???? like that dude just needed to stop, why did he even care what 2 high schoolers were fucking??

I just curious what you're opinion is on the subject of Stefan letting Caroline being compelled and abused by Damon. I know he sorta rescues her from him after a couple episodes but she almost dies in the process..
That frankly, is my biggest problem with Stefan (pre season 5 before the writers ruined him).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFZwUOS0di0&ab_channel=ZoeMarria
He literally says to Elena in this^ clip that it’s just easier to let Damon do what he wants rather than to force him not to do something, Elena express outrage because Damon was hurting Caroline Stefan attempts to soothe her by saying he was only feeding off of her and erasing her memories after like that’s somehow okay or better and not still a violation of Caroline’s body and consent.
He also says if Damon wanted to kill her he would have. Elena speaking for me vicariously expresses more outrage and asks if that’s supposed to make it okay and he says no but again not much is done after that to rectify the issue.
I cannot find what ep it was in but there's a scene where Damon Stefan and Caroline (and presumably Elena) are in the same house together and Damon tells Caroline to go clean up and season1!caroline being season1!caroline adamantly refuses ‘do I look like I do dishes?’ and Damon compels her right in front of Stefan.
I could just put it down to the tvd writers misogynistic writing (and I do) but then again Stefan’s defence and constantly taking up for Damon is an inherent flaw in his character (something that the writers passed on to Bonnie, Enzo -in fact they made it his whole storyline - Caroline eventually -horrifyingly enough - and Elena but thankfully not my children Tyler and Jeremy).
I refuse to believe that this is the first time that Stefan has witnessed Damon do something of this nature. If we give Stefan the benefit of the doubt and say that he didn’t know about Damon raping/sexually/emotionally/physically abusing Caroline (although we need to recognise that part of the reason for neither Stefan or Elena calling a spade a spade is because the writers refused to use the word rape on the show and didn’t even acknowledge that Caroline was being abused until s2 - and then completely ignored it for the rest of the shows run) Stefan still knew what Damon was like ie: violent, sociopathic, deranged the type of person who is selfish ad takes pleasure in preying on things and people weaker than him and abusing them; and still Stefan did nothing.
Even in season 6 (7? ??) When Damon, Alaric and Stefan are discussing whether or not Stefan should be with Caroline, Alaric brings up her sleeping with Damon as a negative (which is both inaccurate - a complete erasure of the lack of consent in the situation - and slut shaming to Caroline) and Damon gloats. Plus it's Damon he gloated on the phone to Elena, a girl he potentially wanted be with about how much fun he had with the ‘Mystic Queen’.
Now logically look at the timelines. Both Stefan and Elena knew that when Damon and Caroline were quote unquote in a ‘relationship’ (and beware i only use that word for the purpose of the point I’m trying to illustrate) that Damon was compelling Caroline and making her forget things. Logically we can infer that anything sexual between them was probably not fully consented to because of the compulsion. We the viewer know this, Stefan has enough common sense and knowledge of Damon to know this and Elena was Caroline’s best friend who saw the marks on her neck, how scared she was and even held that lil sleep over for her to make her feel better.
But what happens? Elena slut shames Caroline for her involvement with Damon and Stefan does jack all about it.
Oh yeah, and the Damon officiates St*roline’s wedding and marries Elena and then they all live happily ever after the end.
Bottom line is, while I love Stefan , he didn't do nearly enough to help Caroline.
